It’s an unusual duet in that the two seem almost to be engaged in a musical dispute with each loudly insisting on his/her own quite different interpretation of the song; what quickly becomes clear is that they are fellow soldiers simply advancing in common cause from two strong flanks.

Thanks for the link. I agree with the writer, but he only touched on the social aspect which I feel has probably caused the most damage. He mentions the “War on Drugs” but doesn’t mention the “War on Men, marriage, Caucasians ect”.

The participation of these notables is what gives A Plan for Action its bona fides, though one should doubt how much the document actually reflects their ideas. There is no question, however, that the ideas advanced in A Plan for Action have become mainstays in the liberal vision of the future of American foreign policy.
That is what makes A Plan for Action especially interesting, and especially worrisome. If it is what it appears to be—a blueprint for the Obama administration’s effort to construct a foreign policy different from George W. Bush’s—then the nation’s governing elite is in the process of taking a sharp, indeed radical, turn away from the principles and practices of representative self-government that have been at the core of the American experiment since the nation’s founding. The pivot point is a shifting understanding of American sovereignty.”

In the US, its adherents are the most influential part of the activist left wing of the Democratic party (when they’re not abandoning it outright to support Nader and the Greens) and it is they who the Democratic presidential candidates are trying to convince. So the emerging consensus among those candidates is something of a codification of Tranzi hot-buttons.
Sometimes you have to accept the existence of terrible things in the short run in order to make possible better things in the future. Sometimes you even have to actively commit terrible acts. I certainly accept that idea, which is why I thought that we had to accept the moral burden of waging war in Iraq.”

Robert W., my answer to your friend would be that it’s PRECISELY because I’m not extremely rich that I hold conservative political views.
When the lib-left are in power, not only do they rob from the rich to, supposedly, give to the poor, they also rob from the hardworking, independent-minded poor with ideas antithetical to theirs in order to give to the poor who are quite happy to be lazy drones and live off others. In this way, they get the lazy drones to vote for them and bleed the hardworking, independent-minded poor dry.
When our children were young and my family was living on one income (not a big one, given that my husband is in a “helping/caring profession,”) the Liberal government taxed us to the max. They weren’t happy that I stayed home to care for our children and, didn’t, therefore, contribute any tax monies to their coffers. I wasn’t happy that the proportionately high taxes my family was paying were going to fund the Liberals’ social engineering agenda where the only good mother was a working-outside-the-home mother and the only good woman was a feminazi, usually kept by the state.
To think that lib-left governments are the friends of “the poor” is a huge lie — the BIG LIE the lib-lefties in government, the media, and our educational establishments perpetrate on a daily basis.
Please educate your friend, Robert W. If he’s not a blinded, dyed-in-the-wool leftard, maybe you’ll be able to help him see the light — and a few more personal dollars which he, not the government, can choose how to spend.

Batb, you’re singin’ to the choir, sister! But everything you said was absolutely superb!
As I mentioned previously, my friend is a public school teacher. He comes from a fairly wealthy family but doesn’t act like he has a silver spoon in his mouth. His wife, who has a similar background, is an elementary school teacher.
On social issues he’s quite conservative, arguably even more so than me. But both he & his wife are members of the notorious BCTF so you can just imagine the Kool-Aid Propaganda they’re forced to ingest on a regular basis!
In our conversation last night he mentioned that he saw nothing wrong with Obama controlling the salaries of any private sector he so chose to. In saying this, I don’t think my friend really grasped what he was saying. When I told him that there was a HUGE difference between public sector employees like himself and private sector entrepreneurs like me (I have my own company & work for myself) he gave me a rather confused look.
So I’m working on him and am going to keep on giving him example after example after example of why socialism is the surest way to poverty for ALL of us!

I’m happy to sing to the choir, in the hopes that it encourages them to sing out louder themselves. I find that too many small-c conservatives who are put down for the choices they’ve made aren’t able to a) articulate exactly why they’ve made them or b) defend those choices when attacked by the left.
Whew. There are more than enough very concrete reasons why the conservative approach to how it is we are to live — “conservative” meaning the conservation of the best values, practices, principles from the past, the ones that work for the benefit of the greatest number of people — is beneficial to a society that wants to continue to exist.
I mean, just look at where the lib-left view of things has taken us …
