I’m launching a new conservative political movement today – “Jason Kenney for Prime Minister”.
Mr. Kenney noted that Parliament unanimously voted to make the Dalai Lama an honorary citizen, and said it is disturbing to think that Canada would let a foreign power dictate whom it should honour.
“I think it reconfirms that Mr. Chrétien and the Liberals have always pursued a policy in this area calculated to their own personal financial interests and those of rich and powerful friends,” Mr. Kenney said yesterday.
“It’s no mistake that Mr. Chrétien was calculating his retirement income in his relations in this area. [It was] a few weeks after he left the premiership that he was being signed on as a consultant to multinational companies with commercial interests in this area.
And what’s got into the Globe and Mail? It’s not often you see the incestuous political ties between top Liberals and PowerCorp mentioned in this context;
Mr. Kenney was clearly referring to Power Corp., the conglomerate founded by Paul Desmarais Sr. His son, André Desmarais, now the co-CEO, is married to Mr. Chrétien’s daughter, France, and Mr. Chrétien’s long-time campaign manager and adviser, John Rae, is a senior Power executive.

So then, one could assume that the Conservatives have the documetation to prove said ties and are probably way more aware about Sidewinder, Power Corp., etc. than I could have hoped. While I’m glad to see this, it does bring up a troubling question. Why aren’t they doing anything about it?

When someone aspires to lead the country it’s not for their benefit, it’s not about feathering their own nests, it’s about the welfare of the people and the country as a whole. Someone needs to remind them at every opportunity.

Who is “Dachand”? Interviewed by Peter Mahnsbridge on CBC, yesterday. His name means “Big Mountain” in Chinese. What does that mean? I saw Jason Kenney on TVO the other night answering questions from Steve Paikin. I thought Kenney did a masterful job of dealing with Paikin’s cynical questions.

I posted on a blog, post 911, when Chretien refused to sign onto Canadian troops going into Iraq, his ties through marriage to power Corp. Power Corp owns about 6% of Total Elf Fina, one of the oil copmanies that had interests in operating oil fields in Iraq at the time. Check out Power Corps’ organizational chart and what they own.
That post was used in the HoC by the Conservatives to point out the Liberal Party was being “used” to define Canadian foreign policy, by their ties to Power Corp. Lots of indignant replies from the Libs.
Sidewinder should be dusted off and further research needs to be done on the “ties that bind” to Chinese interests, just for starters, through Power Corp, Mo Strong and others. It’s time to defend this country and to define who the Liberals really speak for.

Stephen, I’m pretty clear that it’s option #3–and a healthy regard on the part of all of Canada’s elites for the perqs of being so close to–and quite possibly in on the business deals of–Power Corp.
Think of all the members of the MSM who are connected to the Librano$ who, in turn, are connected to the Desmarais Power Corporation. They know what’s going on. I suspect they’re simply not willing to blow the whistle on the Sugar Daddy who’s made their lifestyles so cushy, their bank accounts and their social calendars so full.

I would tend to say it is simply because of bias (I can’t explain such bias other than another list of options with ‘promised positions such as a Senate seat or a Ambassadorship’ as one of them.)
It’s not only Power Corp that’s been gazed over by the MSM: Shawinigate, HRDC Boondoggle, Adscam, Sidewinder, Gagliano and I’m sure I’m missing many others.
It’s certainly not because the MSM cannot investigate ad nauseum: Mulroney and Airbus are a prime example.
One thing for sure: Stephen Harper will have to someday address the CBC “problem”. It is a disgusting institution. It is unCanadian as much as it claims to be pure Canadiana.

A couple of years ago I was shocked to be talking to friends — pretty strong Liberal types — who had never heard of the Liberal Party / Power Corp. connections. These are not ill-informed types. One is a lawyer with a high-profile Ottawa job. That these connections (now manifesting with Bob Rae) are not better known seriously underines democracy in Canada. People need complete information to make informed decisions, and it is MSM that is to be faulted here.

I think the way to smoke out the Liberals/Power Corp connections is via an election. Surely even MSM would not dare to bury claims coming from one of the parties involved in an election. The Conservatives should get on this. I think that if the New Dems were smart, they would too. Enough publicity around something like this and they could become the official opposition. With Dion in place, I think their chances are better than they have ever been. They should pull out all stops. Even if only a number of concrete details documented in Sidewinder would be put forward, that would start the process of uncovering the level of corruption among Libs. Running Brian(?) McAdam — the former immigration rep to China who was profiled in the Citizen earlier this week, might be another way to draw attention to all of the under-the-table dealings and corruption among elitists in the Liberal Party.

With respect to the Chretien outburst and the recent news story in “China’s state-run English daily newspaper” — it is ludicrous to think that anyone in China cares anything about Harper attending the Olympics — or not. The story, of course, becomes “big news” in Canada. Is the Canadian media being manipulated? You bet! The story strikes me as being a clear indication that Mo Strong is pulling some strings — this is another attack by the Libs. Their tentacles for smearing Harper clearly run far and wide. The agenda is to get the Libs back in so that the Lib/Chinese/Mafia/Power connections can start things running smoothly again.
