Arctic Ice Refuses to Melt:
“Just a few weeks ago, predictions of Arctic ice collapse were buzzing all over the internet. Some scientists were predicting that the “North Pole may be ice-free for first time this summer”. Others predicted that the entire “polar ice cap would disappear this summer”.
The Arctic melt season is nearly done for this year. The sun is now very low above the horizon and will set for the winter at the North Pole in five weeks. And none of these dire predictions have come to pass. Yet there is, however, something odd going on with the ice data.”

Calls to Sunrise Propane officials were not returned yesterday.
The cause of the Downsview explosion is still under investigation. In documents made public this week, the agency charged with inspecting the province’s propane sites, the Technical Standards and Safety Authority, said that Sunrise had violated provincial safety codes during back-to-back annual inspections.
The arm’s-length TSSA has taken its own heat this week after its records for propane sites in the province were found to be flawed and outdated. It released an updated list yesterday. In it, the agency listed 150 similarly-sized propane sites in Ontario, including 20 active sites in the greater Toronto region. In the report, 11 sites were listed inactive and one had moved. The agency was ordered by the government to come up with an inspection plan for all the sites by Tuesday.

Only NOW, the Ontario government has ordered an inspection plan for all of the propane sites in the province?
I hope the residents of Downsview sue the sorry a**es off Mayor Miller and Premier McGuinty. As usual, the left hand doesn’t have a clue what the right hand is doing, endangering the lives of thousands of Toronto and Ontario citizens who should be able to expect far more due diligence on the part of their elected officials.

BBC ready to dock Crufts coverage after ‘Nazi-style’ breeding
The documentary, to be shown on BBC One at 9pm tonight, claims that the breeding process used to produce pedigree dogs has resulted in a high incidence of inherited genetic disease. It raises what the programme makers believe are serious concerns about the ethics of dog shows and their emphasis on breeding purity…
Two years in the making, the documentary shows many dogs suffering from genetically induced illnesses, including epilepsy, and compares practices at the 135-year-old [Kennel C]lub to Nazism in its emphasis on breed purity…

no real change in 3 weeks between Mr. McCain and Mr. Hussein
still…
So our “illustrious” former PM, Chretien, opines we are “blackballed” because Mr. Harper didn’t attend the Olympics in China. The old boy is still playing dirty Liberal politics, tossing out his opinion whenever he thinks he can get some traction for his Party which is on the skids.
Forgive us if we opine it’s all about Chretien and Lefty hangers on like Moe Strong’s own personal interests in that place that’s biting his butt.
If that’s not enough, he also says the Kadhr “kid”
should be repatriated to Canada. Of course we won’t mention the fact he was closer to being a kid when the Liberal government ignored him while in office.
We have to also point out, Chretien went to bat for his terrorist father, visited him in a Pakistani hospital, so he obviously didn’t have a handle on what that family was about when he was seeking votes from that element. Did he not have any intelligence on or ask questions as to why the Khadr sire was being held by Pakistan?
The Little Man, Chretien, should STFU and go quietly into the night if that’s the best he has to offer.
Liz, Chretien, the uber-bully, will never go quietly into the night or anywhere else. He’s a BIG MOUTH with a BIGGER BANK ACCOUNT, all on the backs of hard-working Canadians.
We all know why he’s in China. To make a financial killing with his son-in-law, Andre Desmarais, and his unsavoury sidekick, Mao Stlong (h/t maz2!).
Cretin is a disgrace to the office of Prime Minister and I suspect that his legacy, without the backing of the future MSM (if one is left standing), will be mud. In hindsight, Canadians will realize what a scumbag he was, with a footnote about Mo Strong, the Librano party’s bagman (at an unholy wake).

“Sign Kyoto – fund a war
New Zealanders are starting to get nervous about what might happen to the money they are paying the Russians for failing to meet their Kyoto targets.
As reported in our feature on New Zealand and Kyoto, the poor kiwis are paying the Russians 4.1 billion dollars by 2012 to purchase carbon credits to offset the increase in CO2 emissions beyond mandated Kyoto targets.
Kiwiblog is reporting that there is no mechanism for New Zealand to avoid handing over this money even if it is used to fund the war against Georgia.
If Australia fails to meet Kyoto targets and has to buy carbon credits from Russia, they same thing would happen.”
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2064112/posts
Is it fair to say Chretien signed Kyoto for personal benefits, given his interests in China? Chretien had no plan to enact Kyoto beyond sending carbon credits to China and Russia to continue to pollute the planet. Anyone with a brain cell or two would realize it would dummy down and even kill our economies. Isn’t that the plan of Mao Strong, the granddaddy of Kyoto?
Kyoto is not about cleaning up pollution, it’s about making more to line the pockets of weasels.

“Neo-coms are the threat
TWENTY YEARS after the fall of the Soviet empire, it is much easier to see that the current Russian regime wants to reclaim great power status. It more resembles the earlier Soviet regime and those of the czars than it does any Middle European liberal state.
Indeed, its exploitation of Russian-speaking minorities in the Georgian provinces of Abkhazia and Ossetia as pawns is reminiscent of the tactics of the Nazi regime in the 1930s.
Russia has invaded Georgia not just to punish Georgia’s elected leadership, but also to reclaim Russian control of gas and oil pipelines in the Caucasus region. Russia wants to bully Ukraine and Turkmenistan, which have natural resources and are turning westward, the same way Vladimir Putin bullied and jailed Russian businessmen who had amassed economic power and were Western-oriented.
We should keep this in mind as Prime Minister Putin and his puppet president, Dimitri Medvedev, scatter promises around the world, including that of a withdrawal from Georgia.
One can expect they will keep their pledges of peace the way Yevgeny Primakov (another Russian prime minister of KGB extraction) and Victor Chernomyrdin promised Bill Clinton and Al Gore to limit arms transfers and nuclear development to North Korea, Iran and Syria during the 1990s.
HUGE COMMUNIST dictatorships, like deadly viruses, have mutated, not died. Russia and China wear the trappings of capitalism when it suits them, but they are willing to bludgeon “naughty” neighbors and “delinquent” dissidents at will.
Putin, the graduate of the old KGB, has been sending agents to poison or shoot journalists and dissidents at home and abroad.”

1. Russia is a country in the midst of a probably irreversible decline. It suffers from a serious demographic crisis (a total fertility rate of about 1.4 and a male life expectancy of only 59 years) which will see its population decline to 125 million or less in the next ten years. Its government is increasingly autocratic, suppressing freedom of expression and taking control of crucial sectors of the national economy, squeezing out direct foreign investment and technology transfer needed to maintain economic development. The Russian economy itself is increasingly reliant on high technology arms transfers at one end, and raw materials extraction–principally oil and natural gas–at the other. The Russian military is starved for resources (including quality manpower), operates increasingly antiquated equipment, and faces severe challenges to its modernization and transformation plans…

Coca Cola celebrates Ramadan ?!
” The crescent moon and star — yes, the same symbol featured on the flags of so many Muslim countries — is an internationally-recognized symbol of the Islamic faith in much the same way as the cross represents Christianity and the star of David Judaism. When I learned the symbol of the Islamic faith will appear on Coca-Cola packaging during Ramadan 2008, I found myself wondering whether or not the Atlanta-based soft drink maker will soon include the Christian cross and Jewish star of David in future holiday packaging designs targeting people of those faiths.

(Via MESH) Daniel Markey, Securing Pakistan’s Tribal Belt
Today, few places on earth are as important to U.S. national security as the tribal belt along Pakistan’s border with Afghanistan. The region serves as a safe haven for a core group of nationally and internationally networked terrorists, a training and recruiting ground for Afghan Taliban, and, increasingly, a hotbed of indigenous militancy that threatens the stability of Pakistan’s own state and society. Should another 9/11-type attack take place in the United States, it will likely have its origins in this region. As long as Pakistan’s tribal areas are in turmoil, the mission of building a new, democratic, and stable Afghanistan cannot succeed…

“The crescent moon and star… is an internationally-recognized symbol of the Islamic faith”
Posted by: Friend of USA at August 19, 2008 11:28 AM
Like so much else, Islam plagiarised its symbols from Judaism and Christianity. The moon is one of the traditional symbols of Judaism, as any good commentary on kiddush levanah will explain. The crescent moon was the symbol of Byzantium since its foundation in the 7th Century B.C.E. In 330 C.E., Constantine the Great added the star to symbolise the Virgin Mary.

“Fmr. Italian Pres.: We Paid for Immunity From Terrorist Attacks
by Nissan Ratzlav-Katz
(IsraelNN.com) In a letter appearing in the weekend edition of the respected Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, former Italian President Francesco Cossiga revealed that the government of Italy agreed to allow Arab terrorist groups freedom of movement in the country in exchange for immunity from attacks in Italy.
Cossiga wrote that the government of the late Prime Minister Aldo Moro reached a “secret non-belligerence pact between the Italian state and Palestinian resistance organizations, including terrorist groups,” in the 1970s. According to the former president, it was Moro himself who designed the terms of the agreement with the foreign Arab terrorists. Ironically, Moro later met his death at the hands of homegrown Italian terrorists, the Red Brigades, in 1978. Cossiga was president of Italy from 1985-1992 and is today a senator-for-life in the Italian legislature.
“The terms of the agreement were that the Palestinian organizations could even maintain armed bases of operation in the country, and they had freedom of entry and exit without being subject to normal police controls, because they were ‘handled’ by the secret services,” Cossiga explained.
As Interior Minister, Cossiga said that he learned PLO members in Italy had diplomatic immunity as representatives of the Arab League. When he became alarmed by the heavy weapons defenses installed around the homes of PLO members living in Rome, the guards were persuaded to switch to light arms.”

“Researcher Predicts 80-year “Little Ice Age” to begin soon.
Milenio ^ | August 19, 200 | Víctor Manuel Velasco Herrera
An expert from the National Autonomous University of Mexico predicted that the Earth will enter a “Little Ice Age” which will last from 60 to 80 years and may be caused by the decrease in solar activity.
Victor Manuel Velasco Herrera, a researcher at the Institute of Geophysics at UNAM, showcased his theories during an international conference he led at the Centre for Applied Sciences and Technological Development. Velasco, a specialist in remote sensing systems, said that the recent rupture of the Perito Moreno glacier on the border of Chile and Argentina, unusual for having produced a full austral winter, was not due to global warming. He theorizes that the event was caused during a drought by falling water levels in the river, coupled with colder temperatures.
Dr. Velasco described as “erroneous” predictions of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), of a gradual increase in temperature, the so-called global warming. The models and forecasts of the IPCC “are incorrect because they are based solely on mathematical models and do not include, for example, solar activity,” said Velasco, who is also a specialist in predictive image processing. “The phenomenon of climate change,” he added, “should include both internal and external factors. Internal would include volcanic activity, while external causes include solar activity.”
“Curiously, the Sun never has been seen as a cooling agent, but as a cause of warming. It clearly has roles in both cooling and warming,” he said.”

Deborah Weiss at Front Page Magazine has a good summary of Canada’s CHRC’s:
Currently, there are fourteen Canadian Human Rights Commissions, employing 1000 people, with a budget of 200 million dollars annually. Together, they function as a parallel court system, often at direct odds with laws administered through the Canadian civil and criminal courts. While the establishment of the Human Rights Commissions and Tribunals may have started out with good intentions, over time they have become so extreme that they regularly side with radical Islamists. In a crusade to stamp out offensive language, they stifle free speech. Additionally, the legal fees for respondents can be astronomical. When they win, their speech constitutes exorbitantly expensive speech, not free speech. Soft jihadists purposely use these nuisance suits as lawfare to shut people up and prevent them from voicing their opinions.
News: The peer-reviewed study, Seniors and Drug Prices in Canada and the United States, 2008 Edition, found that on average, Canadian prices for the generic drugs most commonly prescribed to seniors (aged 60 and older) in 2007 were 101 per cent higher than American prices for the same drugs.
Not News: “Canadians should put the blame squarely where it belongs – bad government policies. High Canadian generic prices are caused by government policies that shield retail pharmacies and generic manufacturers from competitive market forces that would put downward pressure on generic drug prices,” Skinner said.
Instead, the So-Con led Temperance Movement of Passing Puritans instead rail against an injection site, and politicians argue with physicians. Celement gets the prize for Biggest Moron of the Month – confusing moral views with best policy public health.

Frank J. Gaffney, Jr., Obama’s Islamist problem has nothing to do with his upbringing
The effort to minimize any grounds for fearing Obama has an abiding, if covert, attachment to Islam has prompted him to risk offending Muslims in order to avoid off-message controversies and photo ops. It is, therefore, curious in the extreme that he is giving a prominent role at next week’s Democratic convention to a leader of an organization identified by the Department of Justice as a Muslim Brotherhood front organization and an unindicted co-conspirator in a terrorism financing conspiracy.
Dr. Ingrid Mattson is the president of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), an organization created by the radical, Saudi-financed Muslim Students Association. She will represent the Muslim community at the first-ever interfaith prayer service at a Democratic nominating convention…
“The old boy is still playing dirty Liberal politics” Chretien should not have raised his head to remind us of his ties to China just a day after the re-emergence of Brian McAdam via Donna Jacob’s interview. I think there is a lot of scope for political scandal here. Could keep us entertained through the fall.
“Is it fair to say Chretien signed Kyoto for personal benefits, given his interests in China? ” — Absolutely that is fair. I suspect his staying out of Iraq was also linked to Total’s (Demerais’ France-based Oil company)business dealings with Sadaam. Total had a lot of money and access to oil at stake that would have fallen through if Sadaam were ousted and Iraq went to war.
maz2 — I think Mr. Putin looks more trustworthy. At least we know what he stands for.

Orwell should have written a book called “2008” given what the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario are up to–no doubt with the blessing of Babs Hall and her Human Rights Commission’s commissars.
Lorne Gunter (National Post):

If the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) gets its way, Ontario’s doctors will soon be stripped of their right to follow their moral convictions or religious beliefs when treating patients. In other words, doctors will risk losing their licenses if they run afoul of Ontario’s human rights police.
If, out of moral conviction, they refuse to perform abortions, refer patients for abortions or prescribe morning-after and birth control pills, or if they refuse to help same-sex couples conceive children, their own governing body will take away their right to practice medicine.
[end quote]
The Hippocratic Oath (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hippocratic_Oath) makes it quite clear how doctors should acquit themselves, but the proposed CPSO policy would rob doctors of using their own informed and educated judgment. They are to be punished for listening to and following their consciences.
This is unconscionable. This is dangerous. This is undemocratic. This is totalitarian.
Was this what Barbara Hall had in mind when the OHRCs were given the go-ahead in June to throw a wide net to catch Canadians practicing “hate” crimes.
As per usual, it will be Christian doctors with scruples about performing abortions or prescribing or administering the morning-after pill who will be caught in the CPSO/OHRC cross hairs.
