Good evening ladies and gentlemen, welcome to SDA Late Nite Radio. Tonight, for your delectation, here are John Coltrane, Stan Getz, Oscar Peterson, Paul Chambers, and Jimmy Cobb performing Rifftide (8:02).
Your Reader Tips are, as always, welcome in the comments.

Another good one, Vitruvius!
I’d like to register my appreciation to the management for the snazzy Reader Tips — an eclectic mix of music that I really enjoy.
I’d like to register my appreciation to the management too: thank you, Kate.
Thanks to both. A little observation in the weaning hours of Canada day. I went over to that true red canadian website,Babble, and there are exactly zero threads that have anything to do with Canada day. But,but, but, aren’t they the ones who protect canadian values against the likes of me,and you,and you. I was going to start one but I am still banned. Maybe next year. Cheers to everyone.

Liberal-socialist-Marxist-Leninist Citoyen Dion is a Liberal-socialist-Marxist-Leninist.
Read the report from the Winnipeg Free Press in tandem with the report below.
Mull, (a favourite verb of the leftist MSM), the two, and the conclusion can be/is obvious: Liberal-socialist-Marxist-Leninist Citoyen Dion is a Liberal-socialist-Marxist-Leninist.
Citoyen Dion’s goal/aim: Red Revolution in Canada today; tomorrow, the World.
“‘the worse the better’: the worse the social conditions became for the poor, the more willing they would be to support a revolution.”

“He’s [Citoyen Dion] going one step further. He’s [Citoyen Dion] convinced the worse the situation becomes, the more Canadians will agree that it is economic suicide to do nothing.”

“A Russian Word for a Latin American Disease ”
“While imprisoned in Petrograd’s Peter and Paul Fortress—from 1862 to 1864—he [Chernishevsky] wrote “What is to be done?·”, a novel deemed by many of his contemporaries as a handbook of Russian radicalism. So influential was this book that it led to the creation of a strong and widespread—if ultimately failed—, populist Land and Liberty political society. V.I. Lenin named one of his pamphlets after Chernishevsky’s novel and it was the hero of Chernishevsky’s novel who coined the phrase ‘the worse the better’: the worse the social conditions became for the poor, the more willing they would be to support a revolution.”

They’re now claiming in a headline at Macleans.ca that Canadians are wealthier than Americans, this despite Americans being wealthier than Canadians.
Maclean’s headline today: “Canadians are wealthier than Americans”
I wonder if anyone will call them on it.
So abortion Doctor, Henry Morgantaler receives the Order of Canada, now what?
We know the body which decides who merits the “honour” is heavily Left of the political spectrum and has nothing to do with the Federal government.
This appointment is more about an agenda of the Left to legalize abortion than about Morgantaler.
Now we’ll be hearing calls for the Government to step in and revoke this appointment. Expect the media to keep it going because it’s controversial and can cause problems for the government.
Progressive Science has lumped all humans into the genus homo sapiens. Thus, all men are equal the socialists say. It’s the Big Lie.
There are many pygmies; there are few giants. The few giants do rise above the mass-man. Humans do stand on the shoulders of giants.
The article dwells on the technical aspects of the Stradivarius/Guarnieri violins; however, it does not tell us how Stradivarius himself was formed in his one lifetime. Nor, does it tell us how it was that Guarnieri also rose above the herd.
How was it that these two men rose above the rest of the lowing herd of the violin makers?
Who was the violin? Who was the bow? Who made Stradivarius?
The article does have this: that Stradivarius rose above the rest.
“The rise to fame of a master instrument maker”.
The poet, Thomas Gray, had an intimation of this when he wrote “… The lowing herd winds slowly o’er the lea, The ploughman homeward plods his weary way, And leaves the world to darkness and to me. …”

“Palestinians storm Rafah crossing
Hundreds of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip have stormed the Egyptian gate at the Rafah crossing, clashing with security forces.
Palestinian youth on Wednesday threw rocks at Egyptian soldiers, who responded in kind, keeping the crowd at bay with water cannons.
Television footage showed some people were wounded in the clash.
Egypt opened the crossing for two days to allow in Palestinians who need medical treatment not available in Gaza, and for Palestinians to return home.”

(Via CSP) Amir Taheri, Al Qaeda’s Plan B
NO one should feel safe without submitting to Islam, and those who refuse to submit must pay a high price. The Islamist movement must aim to turn the world into a series of “wildernesses” where only those under jihadi rule enjoy security.
These are some of the ideas developed by al Qaeda’s chief theoretician, Sheik Abu-Bakar Naji, in his new book “Governance in the Wilderness” (Edarat al-Wahsh)…
All these daily stories about hijabs, licence pix, piggy banks, food-hiding at Ramadam, hospital anti-hygiene, beds turned to Mecca, outrage at cute puppies, taxi-driver fussiness, ad nauseum, part of:
AL QAEDA’S PLAN B by Amir Taheri
My only quibble: his failure to mention the “moderate” “democracy leaning” Muslim Brotherhood which has deeply infiltrated all western nations.
Bret Stephens, Global Warming as Mass Neurosis
Last week marked the 20th anniversary of the mass hysteria phenomenon known as global warming. Much of the science has since been discredited. Now it’s time for political scientists, theologians and psychiatrists to weigh in…
But mother nature has opinions of her own. NASA now begrudgingly confirms that the hottest year on record in the continental 48 was not 1998, as previously believed, but 1934, and that six of the 10 hottest years since 1880 antedate 1954. Data from 3,000 scientific robots in the world’s oceans show there has been slight cooling in the past five years, never mind that “80% to 90% of global warming involves heating up ocean waters,” according to a report by NPR’s Richard Harris…
Re the Amir Taheri article:
The extremist Muslim movement looks very much like the extremist communist movement that was rampant in the 20th century. The latter was seriously wounded when the Soviet Union went under; I’m hoping the former might be hurt significantly if the current Iran government goes under. Ayman al-Zawahri for one always struck me as a Marxist first and a Muslim second.
Then there’s the old infidel-loves-life-but-we-love-death argument … meaning that if the west exterminates these radicals, it gives them what they want — a win-win situation!
However, on one point I’ll play devil’s advocate a little bit and observe that it would be hard to operate as a “secret” society when the women had a special dress code and all the men wore beards.

The Order of Canada is just a leftwing socialist, tin badge award, and has become no different than the Nobel Peace Prize. They both have lost the prestigiousness. Take a look at the list of recipients – most are the bottom feeders of society. Majority of Canadians pay no attention to all this attention.
nv53, Daniel Pipes has some thoughts along the same lines:
[The Islamist-Leftist] Allied Menace
Why, then, the formation of what David Horowitz calls the Left-Islamist “unholy alliance”? For four main reasons.
First, as British politician George Galloway explains, “the progressive movement around the world and the Muslims have the same enemies,” namely Western civilization in general and the United States, Great Britain, and Israel in particular, plus Jews, believing Christians, and international capitalists…
The ‘progressive’ and Islamist movement is actually a regressive movement, a totalitarian collectivist ideology rejecting the individual and focused on the rule of the state. Examples are fascism, communism..
The questions to ask are based upon a first acknowledgement of reality; namely, the world population of over 6 billion. Can such an ideology support a large and increasing population? The answer, repeatedly, throughout history, is NO.
Why not?
Because our global population can only be supported by a sustenance system based on industrialism.
Industrialism requires:
The international interaction of goods and services; this interaction must be rapid and flexible.
It requires a large service industry dealing in information rather than hard labour which is moved to machines; these individual workers must be flexible, move from job to job and country to country; both genders work.
It requires constant invention and innovation; therefore, it is based on individual dissent, questions, innovation.
Industrialism is therefore operative only in democracies – which privilege the individual rather than the authoritarian state.
The socialist collectivist ideologies cannot run an industrial economy. Islam is a socialist collectivist ideology; it cannot run an industrial economy. It rejects free thought, dissent, questions, debate.
Therefore, these ideologies that are idealist schemes that ‘all will be well when the state insists that we all think and behave alike’ – are doomed to failure in a global reality of over 6 billion population. The largest population such an ideology can operate in, without using military repressive force, is about 30 people.
So, the world requires democracy and individual dissent and questions.
One further item. China. China, you know, is rather similar to the early USA of the 19th c and early 20th c. It has no intention of sitting back and ‘being nice’; it is capitalist to its core; its people have one interest only – making money. They aren’t restricted by any notions of ideal life or ideology. And they know that ‘making money’ means each man for himself, it means going out and getting things done no matter how. If you think that China is going to sit back and allow the left to destroy its booming industrialism – think again.
“Fishing expeditions” the G-M says.
The OHR Tribunal is no longer squid jigging from a dory with an hand operated jig.
The method of choice is now a deep-sea trawler with
a maw-some miles long net. The prime catch is separated from the garbage, eviscerated, and freeze wrapped onboard. The garbage is returned to the sea.
It’s “Der Prozess” for the 21st Century.

“The arrival of the amended Ontario Human Rights Code is not the best way to celebrate Canada Day.”
“Henceforth, the commission will have nothing to do with specific complaints. It will be “proactive,” that is, it will be rather like a free-floating royal commission or public inquiry, choosing its own assignments, armed with daunting powers of search and seizure. Earlier this year, the commission anticipated this role in two separate episodes, showing itself too ready to attribute racism both to rural Ontarian anglers and to Maclean’s magazine (and its contributor Mark Steyn), without evidence that went through the test of a hearing.
Complaints will now go directly to the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal. The government is adding to the number of adjudicators. Moreover, where once the commission’s staff shepherded complaints, in their stead the new legislation has established the Human Rights Legal Support Centre. Though the estimable Raj Anand (a former head of the commission) will be its chair, this amounts to a firm of lawyers provided free to human-rights complainants by the public purse.”

“If you think that China is going to sit back and allow the left to destroy its booming industrialism – think again.”
Quite right, ET. Neither will China allow Muslims any sort of political dissent.
They recently bulldozed an Uighur Mosque that wasn’t complying with celebrating the Olympic torch passing through the region.
The West should watch how the Chinese handle their Islamic problem. History has repeatedly shown that Islamists understand and respond in the correct way to demonstrated power, rather than Obama style diplomatic talks – which is seen as weakness.
It appears Iran is being advised by the CHRC:
“Iran mulls death penalty for Internet crimes”
(AFP)
TEHERAN – Iran’s parliament is set to debate a draft bill which could see the death penalty used for those deemed to promote corruption, prostitution and apostasy on the Internet, reports said on Wednesday.
MPs on Wednesday voted to discuss as a priority the draft bill which seeks to “toughen punishment for harming mental security in society,” the ISNA news agency said.
