Blatchford on Afghanistan

Via The Torch, Christie on Afghanistan this week:

“I pretend no expertise in politics, diplomacy, soldiering or Afghanistan, but I have been in Kandahar, well outside the safety of Kandahar Air Field, four times in less than two years, and note the following.

On Mr. Dion: A few days before Mr. Dion and his No. 2, Michael Ignatieff, made their surprise tour to Afghanistan last weekend, the federal Liberal Party made its formal submission to Mr. Manley’s panel.

In other words, before the Liberal leader met Canadian troops and posed in the cute camo outfit (I would knock the block off whoever lent the gear to him, by the way) he had his mind made up – the combat mission, as the party’s submission said, should end as scheduled in February, 2009. His visit there was a disingenuous and fraudulent exercise in bullshit public relations.

  1. “Mr. Dion and his No. 2, Michael Ignatieff”
I always suspected Citoyen Dijon thought of Iggy as pure No.# 2…so do I Borat, so do I 😉

  2. Regarding the interpretation of Mr Gates’ comments, I was listening to John Robson on CFRA the other day and Mr Robson’s understanding was that Mr Gates was essentially correct inasmuch as Western troops, (the US included), are not generally being trained for the types of warfare they now find themselves engaged in.
As an example, Mr Robson referred back to WWII where soldiers were no longer taught house-to-house combat because it was ‘determined’ that there was no longer a need for it.
When Canadian troops found that there WAS a requirement they ‘invented’ their own; it was unsafe to venture into the streets so they went to the top floor of a row house, blew through the wall into the next house, killed the German military occupants and then moved on to the next house.
The quality of the soldiers, Mr Robson felt, was not the issue in Mr Gates’ comments, the TRAINING was.

  3. The msm continues to willfully ignore or bury the gaffe by Dion, yet on ctv newsnet,lo and behold the ‘lead’ every half hour is the leak of document on countries that torture (US etc),this went on at length, and ended with Roger Smith blathering about apology issued fr.Bernier’s office. He (smith) then wrapped it up by saying the revised edition will most likely be ‘buried’.Then, just to stretch out the coverage, they drag out Bob Rae for his performed outrage, the usual incompetent,he’s very concerned..blah blah.WHERE was the extended in depth coverage of the Dion mess?Oh yeah, that’s ok,he’s a Liberal!
Thank God for Christie, and the few brave ones that break rank.

  4. Thanks for that Christie Blatchford!
Another interesting note regarding Graham Richardson on CTV last evening parsing what Citoyen Dion meant.
Geez Graham, you are ostensibly a commentator not fricking Liberal policy interpreter, get a F*****G grip, lad!!
CTV and Global are not a damned sight better than CBC at their Lib love in!

“Just a reminder to everyone, go buy Fifteen Days if you haven’t picked it up already.”I have and I agree!
I just wish Christie would find another home for her day work.
    G&M are not my favs.

  6. Sorry about the double post.

  7. Thanks to Blatch for the Clarity.
Don’t give up on print media
    It’s called the Boob-Tube because…..

  8. Frankly, I think this issue is beyond the understanding of the MSM. Dion is in the same league with them; his comments re: Pakistan were off the cuff nonsense, especially given Grit submission to Manely already completed before he left for Afghanistan. This was PR plain and simple; and, he blew it.
Maybe MSM avoiding/underreporting this because they don’t understance nuances of War on Terror/Afghanistan, and don’t see the difference between sealing off border and invading Pakistan. Then again, many of them, including our resident moonbats, don’t see the difference between Iraq and Afghanistan, preferring to use the Bush/War for Oil mantra.

  9. Let..light. The only slogans I hear are coming from your ilk. Try some reasoned analysis instead of your right wing conspiracy nonsense.
You are caling other hypocrits. Take a look in the mirror, and turn on your brain.

  10. So did Borat and Iggy go out into the countryside, WITHOUT troops, to keep their useless hides safe? Sorry. Dumb question.

  11. “columnists who have never set a foot anywhere near Afghanistan did what they do best and nattered on…” not to mention chairborne bloggers of the blogging tory ilk.
When are YOU signing up for “THE MISSION”, Lance?

  12. Let..light. The only slogans I hear are coming from your ilk. Try some reasoned analysis instead of your right wing conspiracy nonsense.
    You are caling other hypocrits”
well shamrock, (including your spelling mistakes) I use very current and very big story to back up my position. all you thieving bully righties want to do in response is make it personal and carefully tiptoe around the FACT it constitutes MASSIVE hypocrisy over generations to send young men off to war to stirring slogans, and then deny them their entitled benefits in their old age.
thats what I call hypocrisy. whats your definition? set aside the personal attacks and generalities, how do you peg this CONSERVATIST supported move in the supreme court?
I tag it as symptomatic of right wing thugism and greed and, here it is again, hypocrisy.

  13. From Mansbridge One on One with Dion just now.
Peter:explain what your sense of a good leader is
dion:A GOOD LEADER IS A GOOD COMMUNICATOR,then this gem “I need to be the Prime Minister”
He has NO plan,no clarity, spin spin and more spin.
Good article at G&M about Lafleur (not Guy..the Adscam crook)trying to send $$ out of the country.Take a read of his sentance, and how much time served!I know this is bit OT,but hey, using Cherniak logic I did mention G&M,Christie writes for them,so it’s all good.Wonder what WK will think of that article??

  14. Nom de plume, I don’t give a f**k what you think.
So, righties use stirring slogans and generalities, do they? Could you give me an example? No wait, here’s one – “right wing thugism.” Or, perhaps it’s confusing typos with spelling mistakes. BTW, to which “entitled benefits in old age” are you referring? If, by chance, you mean denying funeral expenses to a veteran, then do your research, there is no such provision, unless veteran dies on duty, and/or is recipient of Victoria Cross.
It must really p**s you off to know that “right wing thugism” (that fat, mean bully Stephen Harper, who’s not fair to poor Dionsky) will be in government for the foreseeable future. Now, don’t cry. Here’s a towel.
Dicks like you always give me a good laugh. Bye bye troll.

  15. “[Dion’s] visit there was a disingenuous and fraudulent exercise in bullshit public relations.”
    And this surprised people, why?

  16. Jeeze, Dion is telling Mansbridge a good Leader must be a good communicator? He’s just disqualified himself! Stupid is as stupid does.

  17. When you put on the uniform, it takes on a pretty significant symbolism to you. Like guys from the Black Watch seeing some baked hippy in a Watch battle dress tunic and “helping him out of it”. You’ll risk your life to save someone in that uni.
Can you imagine what it was like to see Dion in their uniform?

  18. I also received “Fifteen Days” as a Christmas present.
All Canadians owe it to themselves to read this book.
Her no BS style, free from the usual spin of other journalists is a tribute to the men and women of the CF.
I wonder if Dion or Iggy even bothered to read it before they left?

  19. From Duffy yesterday:
Giggles Taber:”I think Mr.Dion ends the week on a high note”…this was due to his big speech in Ont.A high note Janey??? Are you high? Any notion that she pretends to be non-partisan pretty much flew out the window after that.I think she’s trying to take the old owl’s job as well,as she talked over him,cut him off, argued with him and was as annoying as Gerrard Kennedy.

  20. The post for:
    Charming collection
Lebanon’s head terrorist appears in public for the first time and tells his followers about his charming collection:
“We have the heads, the hands, the feet and even a nearly intact cadaver from the head down to the pelvis,” he said.
Nice fellow. And to think liberals are happy to march in parades next to Hezbollah flags.
