Pakistan: Dion, meet foot

As previously mentioned, Dion stepped on a landmine . . . but he didn’t know . . . .

“We are dismayed by the statement of the leader of Opposition,” the government said in a statement released late Thursday by the Pakistan High Commission in Ottawa.

“It shows a lack of understanding of the ground realities.”

Oops!

Update: “As a result of unclear reporting and a partisan Conservative response, the Pakistan High Commission has been tricked into making a public statement on the matter.” Elfin Ears

Upperdate Apparently this reaction is because of Stephen making a phone call! h/t to BB in the comments.

  1. The sophistry displayed by Mr. Dion in this regard is astounding. Clearly out of his element and a foreign policy disaster area.

  2. Mr. Dion has stepped into the merde! Fortunately for him the media and his apologists will explain the nuances of what he implied.
    Elfin Ears…I love it!!!
Does Mr. Dion truly see NATO as a negotiating agent? To be honest I find that hard to believe. Regardless, it is getting tiresome trying to figure out what he does and doesn’t mean.
    Silence from the media.
It must have been a Liberal misstep.

  3. MSM will bail out the “nutty professor” and explain to Pakistan and Canadians what he really meant!
    Canada’s REHO – needs translator!

  4. Like I said elsewhere (Bourque), I pray Mr Dion continues to serve the Canadian people, for a long ,long time, in his unique, special way!

  5. Isn’t cherniak engaged in exactly the same game as he accuses the conservatives?
Isn’t this a case of text book “projection”?

  6. My compliments to Jason Cherniak: he’s become positively Clintonian. I understand that’s not considered an insult over there.

  7. New Liberal election ad for the Liberals under Mr. Dion:
    Soldiers with guns
    In your cities
    In Pakistan
Choose your Canada! … I mean nuclear war.
That ought to get the votes coming in for the LIEberals.

Saudi, $Billionair construction family, the Bin Ladens, lost a fortune on American inspired investments. Investments went bad. They demanded refunds. Chaney said, *No refunds!*.
The Bin Ladens were steamed, got mad, did mind control on young men promising 72 virgins and the men took out two business towers in NYC.
NYC business towers investors and Bush chose Iraq leader Saddam as a target for revenge because Saddo mowed through Kuwait and was gassing Kurds by the village full.
Bush and the boys could not go after the Saudies due to ExxonMobile*s and Chevron*s need for oil.
Since 2001, 6 foot 4 inch Osama has been pushing the bomb martyr for 72 virgins schtick by rote training young men in mosques and madrassah in several countries. Iran*s Shia mullahs hate Sunni Bin Laden and so supply weapons to their Shia boy Muqtada al Sadr in Iraq and to Afghans as well.
Both training and fund raising is also well underway here in Canada and the USA.
Fortunately for us, the Taleban, Hezbalah, Hamas, Shia, Sunni, Kurds and other border guarding groups are stabbing at each other. This makes their focus on us infidels somewhat less effective.
Information and awareness is essential for our defense, yet the MSM seems unable to give us a clear overview. That means much of the North American public could be taken by surprise if there were to be an orchestrated terrorist action in several places across the country.
The Taleban have little control over property in Afghanistan and must retreat for renewal in Pakistan. Gangs also criss cross the India Pakistani border, often killing dozens.
The cure for the poverty stricken young men who accept Osama*s mat and a daily meal with bomb-jacket training is simply, basic education.
Afghan schools and teachers are Osama*s first targets. Once a young person gets a hint of fair government and freedom his chances of choosing bomb-jacket school become quite slim.
Our Nato stay in Afghanistan is likely to be long term in order to reverse 14th century rule by the *religious Police*.

Liberals as a group either want to live by fundamental 14th century R.P. rule,. . . or, due to a selective MSM, they have no grasp of how serious the picture really is. Must be the latter. = TG

  9. Does anyone really need anymore proof on how incompetent the liberals are?
It might seem funny, because we all know Dion is an idiot whom is own party is ashamed of, but the stuff he is saying is putting our soldiers lives at risk. He really needs to have his mouth duct taped.

  10. I’m Peter Mansbridge and you’re not was really socking it to Dion last night, and was le professeur every squirming. It’s obvious he hasn’t lived or touched a day of reality in his life and seemed quite put out that Mansbridge was pressing him on how, exactly, one is supposed to negotiate with terrorists (not the word the CBC actually used) in Pakistan.
So, what’s Mansbridge’s angle? Dion is an embarrassment to the Librano$ and, therefore, to the CBC and making him look as stupid as he actually is will help bring in another Librano leader which would ensure the continuing existence of the CEEB?
That’s the only scenario I can conceive of. I’m sure Mansbridge wasn’t trying to help PMSH and the CPC.

  11. And all the while..the msm whistles in the dark! On ctv news this am,only coverage was wee blurb..then the comment from the host,’PMSH MOCKED Dion.’ On Nat.News with Lloyd last eve,he somewhat puffballed all this, yet threw in few negative comments pointed towards Gates..backpedalling word used few times, yet not for Dion’s poo covering.
Bit OT,but in midst of all this,Taber’s column I G&M yesterday was the worst excuse of ‘journalism’ I’ve read in long time (re Gary Lunn). Majority of it was about Lunn’s private life..what he did over the holidays etc.Gee Jane, good investigative work..it is critical I knew that Lunn went ‘shopping at Can.Tire’ and did some home reno work. Also nice of you to mock Lunn’s stature as well. Disgusting..and Dion and the Libs skate.

  12. Clearly it was good for the rest of us for the Liberals to have chosen Dion as their leader. Its the gift that keeps on giving.Outstanding.

  13. According to the Librano spin control team leader the reason Dion is musing about Pakistani invasions is because we all have not used our Librano speech/policy decoders correctly….you know, the decoder rings they hand out to all Librano supporters so they can decode what their leaders are actually saying (using the esoteric Librano speech code with built in deniability).
Obviously Cherniak is alluding to the fact that the vast right wing media conspiracy have not be given the decoder rings so they are incapable of deciphering what emanates from citoyen Dijon’s mumbling yap….this is all a cleaver ruse to fool any non-liberals in the media.
As for all the liberal media being puzeled at the statement …they need to get their Librano decoding ring software updated to Version. 20.4 with the Dion “patch” in it so the decoding goes more smoothly 😉

  14. Watching the major news networks since 6 am,and this has received virtually NO coverage not one word on cbc.If even the lowliest backbencher in the Cons.party had whispered this to a reporter, cbc would have been trotting out the ‘outrage’teams of the Libs, the NDP,Lizzie May would have her say,as well as every whack-job (think Michael Byers,Stephen Staples)military analyst, and throw in a few ‘expert’ reporters…Van Dusen,Boag, helloooo,Krista Erickson. The silence of this non coverage is truly astounding.

  15. Dion just destroyed any Liberal chance of making Afghanistan an issue in the upcoming election.
Harper just has to respond “but then you want us to go into Pakistan instead?, How crazy are you?”

  16. Thunderous applause for Stephen Taylor.
That was a very impressive move, making that phone call.
Now, I think the Blogging Tories should start their own news network.

  17. After reading jason cherniak’s blog, I am amazed that anyone could go so far to blame an entire group of people (in this case the CPC) for what is no one’s fault other than the Liberal Party of Canada (they choose Dion, their responsible for him).

  18. Dion gives new meaning to the term “loose cannon”!
    He wears it so well.
Favorite quote from the Pakistan High Commission is:
“The price paid by Pakistan being a frontline state cannot be undermined by certain IRRATIONAL comments.”
Even foreign nations now agree that Dion is ‘irrational’.
I hope Gerard Kennedy got a nice card from the CPC this last Christmas. heh.

  19. I just watched the video of last night’s The National with Peter Mansbridge, the crown prince of the anti-right.
Yes Mansbridge did get after Dion somewhat for his incredibly stupid remarks regarding NATO and Pakistan.
But after being on Dion’s case a few months ago about going to Afghanistan, he is now announcing Dion as the “only opposition leader to go to Afghanistan since the Canadian troops went there in 2002.”
Well, since there have only been two opposition leaders since 2002, guess who he was attempting to bash without naming names?
Its oh so obvious, but you never miss a chance, do you Mansbridge?

  20. I am waiting for someone , hopefully PM Harper to make the observation that this is the second time Dion has gone on the International stage and made comments as though Dion & Liberals are running the country (Bali and now Afghanistan) and speak for Canada.
Memo to Dion : The Liberals are the opposition. The Liberals lost the last election. When on the International stage you are an observer … KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT.

This is a worthwhile read of a recent ABC News interview with Musharraf. It shows how very difficult that country is to manage, especially with the many years of incoming refugees from Afghanistan.
And it shows how Pakistanis are not open to having any outsiders come in, and make the precarious situation even worse, for not understanding the history, and place, that Pakistan finds itself.
Musharraf finds himself walking a very fine line with all the tribes, and refugees, and nervous tensions from long ago.
It is no wonder that any hint or suggestion from someone outside his arena was responded to so with such vigor….whatever Musharraf’s failings.
