  8. The Journal de Montréal is stirring the linguistic pot instead of the racial and religious pot these days (reasonable accommodation hearings are over). A reporter was sent out over several weeks to see if a self-proclaimed unilingual English speaker would be hired and retained at different retail stores in mostly downtown Montreal.
    Only one of the stores ended up placing her in the backroom away from French speaking clients. Some of the employers asked her to say ‘Bonjour’ and ‘Merci’, but left it at that.
    I have two problems with this story, besides the attempt to encourage anti-anglo feelings. One is the fact that these are private employers, so they will lose customers if their customers are not happy with the service (several clients did complain, but many just switched to English although there are unilingual French speakers in Montreal – many more outside Montreal).
    Secondly, the real problem raised by this story is that this shows there are plenty of jobs going begging in the retail sector (especially before Christmas) and too many able-bodied people on welfare who could work tomorrow).

    Unlike moonbat/dippers/libranos, us conservatives are actually capable of critical independent thinking.
    I have been involved with Canadian conservative politics ever since I woke up one day and tore up my NDP membership.
    I am on record as being against the Iraq war, of being against GWB’s outrageous deficit financing, of being against the decadent tax cut for the wealthy, and totally against their posturing in the war on drugs.
    My oh my, what will the leftards do when GWB is no longer on the scene?

    I also see,that cbc hasn’t shown much of Dion’s pitiful attempt at hockey..maybe he should have consulted Shane Doan for some tips!CTV’s coverage with Murray Oliver last eve did mention that there wasn’t much excitement generated with the troops over the visit..hmm,wonder why?They showed Dion walking past some of the troops,and they basically ignored him.Wondering if steffi will make Taber’s ‘HOT’list for his cammo attire???

    Ironically, human rights commissions are the best examples of just how many rights we have lost. They follow none of the rules of evidence built up over centuries to assure the accused of a fair hearing.     In the above excerpts from Lorne Gunter’s column, note that the HRC are not interested in truth, they are not interested in protecting your fundamental rights under the Charter. Their only interest is in ensuring that groups, defined as groups by exclusionary attributes of race, ethnicity, religion, language,gender, are ‘not offended’ by what you express.
    You may be offended, your rights may be denied, but their focus is on an entire group. And only groups whose membership is exclusionary by virtue of an essentially inherited attribute.
    The definition of ‘being offended’ is, moreoever, purely and totally subjective. No proof is required, and after all, there cannot be any proof of a subjective feeling.
    Therefore, the focus of the HRC in coming to their conclusions is geared towards hearsay, subjectivism, and indirect allegations of cause and effect. No actual evidence, factual or logical, of any direct link between cause and effect is required. No objective data. Nothing other than the emotional expressions of the complainant.
    Furthermore, as noted, the accused has no protection of the state against his complainant. The complainant is actually financed by the state, by us, the taxpayer! The accused has no protection and is therefore, assumed guilty.
    The HRC are in direct violation of our actual laws, in violation of our constitutional freedoms; they are a disgrace to Canada.

  19. I feel like killing somebody after reading this.     Therefore, shouldn’t a human rights commission be requested to exercise its power to place reasonable limits on the expression of actual hatred towards religious faiths by shutting down this writer’s website? After all, certain words and images can cause actual fear and pain and hate.
    The writer states “I will not reprint the [Mohammed] cartoons here because I have looked at them, and I can certainly see why pious Muslims would be so upset. The cartoons are offensive and hateful towards Islam.”
    And yet…
    The writer boasts of causing pain and hurt to Stockwell Day and other pious Muslims, er Christians. The writer is the member of a band, the name of which causes pain and hurt to many devout Muslims, er Christians. The writer repeats another band’s name that causes pain and hurt to Muslims, er Christians.
    He then admits that “just because I’m okay with that, doesn’t mean that someone else has to be.”
    The writer, then, will undoubtedly welcome a complaint launched with any and all HRCs by anybody caused actual fear and pain and hate by his words. He will accept, indeed welcome, a judgment by government officials that his words “are offensive and hateful towards Islam, er Christianity.” Only such strong government action can prevent the “wave of emotional protests and threats on a global scale” which otherwise may follow the publication of his words. Only government action can teach this writer a modicum of respect and prevent him from further publication of any words that might conceivably cause anybody actual fear and pain and hate.
    Heh.

    After many paragraphs of scare mongering in the following story, we have this nugget of truth in the LAST sentence in the story.
    ” One encouraging finding from the study is that the largest ice sheet, the one covering East Antarctica, has remained relatively stable, showing a small net gain in size.”
    The untold fact left out of this global warming hysteria fear mongering piece of MSM journalism crap is that the West Antarctic Ice Sheet is about 12% the size of the East Antarctic Ice sheet.
    The larger, growing East Antarctic Ice Sheet contains 26 million cubic kilometers of ice. The less stable West Antarctic Ice Sheet contains 3 million cubic kilometers of ice.
    Just pathetic MSM crap passing as journalism.

    Sammy, I linked to this individual, who has made the most derogatory of comments about Kate and others, with the greatest of reluctance.
    I did so only because his writing encapsulates so beautifully a certain kind of liberal mindset.
    He admits to viewing the Mohammed cartoons and pronounces them “offensive and hateful.” Gosh!
    Fortunately the viewing didn’t incite him to hatred and violence against Muslims, but he’s really worried that his intellectual inferiors (that’s you and I) will get all riled up.
    Thanks a lot, but I prefer viewing the cartoons for myself to decide whether or not anybody should be reasonably offended. Compared to the various offensive references made by the writer to Christianity in the referenced column (which I defend his right to make), I consider the cartoons to be fairly innocuous, albeit in poor taste.
    Having the opportunity to view those cartoons allowed me to make my own informed judgment, a very scary thought to some who consider themselves liberal.

    The attack on the WTC was not meant to be the destruction of just two tall buildings, but the destruction of the Western world’s Capitalism Altar. A symbol of American and Western achievement and one of the most identifiable American landmarks.
    When we go back to the Arab conquest of the Middle East, the birth place of Christianity, thousands of churches and Monasteries were destroyed and looted, especially in Egypt, Palestine, Syria and Iraq . Their columns, domes and stones were used to build mosques. If you ever visit El Azhar mosque in Cairo and El Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem, you’ll see crosses on the top of the columns and the domes. These are just two famous examples out of thousands. That’s besides the great churches that were transformed to mosques like Santa Sophia in Istanbul which used to be the center of Eastern Christendom, and Saint John the Baptist Church which is the Omayyad mosque in Damascus now, just to name two Christian historical landmarks. What they didn’t loot and destroy, they just stole.
    in 1004, the Fatimid Caliph Al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah ordered the destruction of churches, the burning of crosses, and the seizure of church property. Over the next ten years thirty thousand churches and Monasteries were destroyed, and untold numbers of Christians converted to Islam simply to save their lives.
    In 1456, Athens fell to the Ottomans, and the Parthenon was converted into a mosque, and a minaret was added to it. When independent Greece gained control of Athens in 1832, the visible section of the minaret was demolished from the Parthenon and soon all the medieval and Ottoman buildings on the Acropolis were destroyed. Why the Parthenon? An enduring symbol of ancient Greece, and one of the Western world’s greatest cultural monuments and symbol of Western civilization.
    Two days ago, a terror plot to blow up the Eiffel Tower was uncovered. This is not the first attempt. In January 2005, French intelligence officers arrested three French-born Algerians suspected of plotting to blow up the Eiffel Tower. Again, why the Eiffel Tower? and why France? The most Arab friendly Western country, host to at least six million Muslim Arabs, the largest Muslim population percentage wise in the Western world.
    What’s the common thread between a 4th century Monastery in Egypt, Churches in Iraq, the WTC, Landmark Churches in Europe, the Church of the Resurrection in Jerusalem, the ancient Jewish Temple site, the Library of Alexandria, the Parthenon, Santa Sophia, Saint John the Baptist of Damascus and the Eiffel Tower.
    Very simple, it’s the continuity of the systematic destruction, embedded in the teaching of Mohammad, since the start of Islam for the elimination of all visible symbols of the Judeo-Christian roots of civilization, as well as all historical and modern Western cultural symbols identified with that civilization.
    But where were all the moderate Muslims during all those 1400 years of destructions? Brilliant question that deserves a brilliant answer, that’s why you should ask your politicians and pundits. Other than that my guess is as good as yours.

  41. Danny Williams is still on his tirade against PM Harper. He wants a PM that he can bully and blackmail and get to cave in when HE wants more than his fair share from the Canadian Federation.
    Williams and McGuinty and Charest NEED a weak Prime MInister who can be made to kneel at their feet and suck up to them for votes using the rest of Canada’s tax money to subsidize their own bad policies.
    They NEED a wimp in the PM’s office. Williams is not used to a strong PM who makes policies and sticks to them on principals and what is good for the whole country.
    So, Williams, McGuinty and Charest want to get rid of Harper so they can get the blowing in the wind flip flopping weak and managable Liberals – Dion being just the latest incarnation of Liberal suck up to the “vote rich” or squeeky wheel provinces.
    The more they scream and holler and badger and rudely bad mouth PM Harper the more convinced I am that we finally have a PM with backbone and conviction.

    I’d guess his days are numbered. And while owning a ‘consulting’ group (attached primarily to government money I’d guess), he’s probably discovering what most people already know: once you’ve been in the sewer of government, the stink don’t come off.
    In other words, business is loathe to deal with these types – because they’re so greasy. Take a look how queer it got with him and Herle.

  45. irwin daisy, with regard to your postings of selections from the various Islamic religious texts – isn’t it the case that these texts and their supporters could be brought to the Canadian HRC?
    After all, those texts specifically are “likely to expose a person or persons to hatred or contempt by reason of the fact that that person or those persons are identifiable on the basis of a prohibited ground of discrimination. ” (HRA, Section 13,1).
    The texts are likely to expose both Jews and Christians to hatred or contempt because they specifically express hatred, contempt, and orders to kill all such people.
    Furthermore, it can also be said that these texts also expose Muslims to ‘hatred or contempt’ out of fear of what their religious texts order them to do.
    Now, shouldn’t these texts be brought before the Human Rights Commission?

    In short, Warren is saying that if anyone is offended by something, that is grounds for censorship and/or punishment. Of course he doesn’t go on to define who decides what is offensive, or how these decisions are arrived at.
    Deeply, truly, honestly – remarkable.

  50. Now, shouldn’t these texts be brought before the Human Rights Commission?
    When certain liberals define hate speech as any that might cause actual fear and pain and hate (note the inherent subjectivity in such terms) in anybody in the mood to be offended, the answer should be affirmative except for one caveat.
    It must be remembered that liberals are generally concerned only when it comes to defaming minorities.
    One particular aging punk-rocker, for example, experiences no moral dilemma in directing fear and pain and hate and ridicule against advocates of the religion of which his Queen is titular head.
    He won’t direct it elsewhere, however, lest the fans hit the Sh*t.
