5. old white guy: Holy sh*t I actually agree with someone here, but I’d rephrase that to read “religion seems to be the problem.”
   On second thought, as the documentary shows it has a lot to do with reaction to having their country occupied, and little to do with religion – in most cases, the newly-formed insurgents never took religion seriously prior to the US invasion. Some had never even been to a mosque. Islam provided a rallying point, and that’s all.
   So Islam per se is not the problem; the occupation is – although, clearly religion makes it easier for the kooks to rally behind a shared death wish. As Steven Weinberg said “Without religion there would be evil people doing evil things and good people doing good things, but for good people to do evil things, that requires faith.”
