| Has there been a more appropriate Nobel choice. | ![]() |
Oops – In the wake of a British court ruling that the “documentary” contains material errors of fact, a “call to return Inconvenient Truth Oscar” A nice gesture, if altogether empty. After all, Michael Moore still has his.
Pajamas Media has a roundup of reaction. My favourite – “Just goes to show you that the Nobel Peace Prize is about as authentic a recognition of achievment in the field of peace as a winning lottery notification via email.”
(Via Shaidle) ….GORELERO – by Hugh Hewitt. “It began when Al Gore was a young man…”

Maz,
Is this like Ed Broadbents prediction in 1988 that Health Care would be gone in 25 years because of Free Trade?
“Polar Ice Cap Will Be Gone in 23 Years With Catastrophic Results”…..except the hard science people have evidence that the ice caps are enlarging.
The amusing thing about Gore’s award is that it sure as hell would have never been awarded by the Nobel’s Science Committee, idiots they aren’t. So here you have the typical lefty Peace Committee numbskulls putting the perfume on Gore’s pig.
I question the timing…
Seriously, Chris Hitchens makes a good case here that this prize is primarily intended by our witty Scandinavian friends to manipulate the U.S. presidential election. Between pressure from his backers and his own bloviated ego, the Goreinator will have a hard time saying no to a run for the nomination.

Alfred Nobel, creator of the five Nobel Prizes, was a Swedish inventor and industrialist. He disposed the Nobel Peace Prize in his will to be awarded to “the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between the nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses.”
Adolf Hitler was nominated in 1939, but the nomination was retracted. Other nominees included Joseph Stalin, Fidel castro and Benito Mussolini. Mahatma Gandhi never won the Nobel Peace Prize despite his efforts to promote non-violent protests and fair government in India
Other Winners include: Yasser Arafat (murderer & terrorist) (1994); Kofi Annan (incompetent and corrupt leader who allowed Ramanda to happen & connected to the oil for drugs scandal in Iraq)(2000); Jimmy Carter Jr. (mild mannered and out of touch with reality leader) (2002).
One can only hope that Gore’s war on GhG is as successful as the war on heavy metal music he conducted with his wife Tipper a few decades ago…Ask Twisted Sister’s singer Dee Snyder how well the Gores managed on that one.
For a good tummy chuckle rent the documentary: “Heavy Metal: A headbangers journey” for the full inquisition. A must see!
“”Polar Ice Cap Will Be Gone in 23 Years With Catastrophic Results”…..except the hard science people have evidence that the ice caps are enlarging.”
Enlarging in the Antarctic, decreasing in the Arctic. The NW passage was open for a couple of weeks this year, the first time it occurred in 100+ years.
And having the Arctic ocean open for navigation is good news. Nothing catastrophic here.
IMHO the best view on AGW is that of Bjorn Lomborg, as pointed by K. Shaidle in her blog. Lomborg believes AGW is real, but doesn’t buy the alarmist nonsense of Gore & al. That’s my position too.
As for handing the Nobel Prize to Gore, I can’t believe the Nobel committee could not find a worthy recipient on this planet who actually worked for PEACE.
Gore will never take the wind from Hillary’s sails at this point in the game. I’m expecting a Clinton/Obama ticket when the dust settles. Gore is so over politically here. He’s got his Nobel prize, like Michael Moore got his Oscar, they are more dinner circuit/campus lefty icons, useful idiots for endorsing whatever crisis de jour the left serves up.
Al had faded into obscurity until this new Gaia gig opened up for him. I don’t think the Dems would touch him as a serious candidate. If they go with Hillary/Obama they’ve got a twofer with the victim voters of which sadly there are so many.
Let’s see: that’s an Emmy, an Oscar, and now a Nobel Peace Prize: quite a collection of consolation prizes for a guy who lost the presidency by a few hundred votes. I’ll bet Gore’s so happy he could just scream.
Re: GORELERO
While Gore’s record suggests he is a pathological liar or has only a tenuous grasp of reality, he occasionally tells the exact truth. From Gore’s biographical entry in Wikipedia:
Gore opposed the Vietnam War and could have avoided serving overseas by accepting a spot in the National Guard that a friend of his family had reserved for him or by other means of avoiding the draft. Gore has stated that his sense of civic duty compelled him to serve in some capacity….As his unit was standing down, he applied for and received a non-essential personnel honorable discharge two months early in order to attend divinity school at Vanderbilt University.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_Gore
Never a truer word! He told the U.S. Army he was non-essential, and non-essential he remains. Why stoke his overinflated ego with any further honours or offices?
uh, penny? That the Antarctic ice cap (note: btw, it’s not “ice caps” that are enlarging, just “ice cap”, ie Antarctica; that the northern ice cap is decreasing in extent is well documented) is initially – and I stress “initially” – enlarging is actually due to global warming:
“It is an effect that has been predicted as a likely result of climate change,” said David Vaughan, an independent expert on the ice sheets at the British Antarctic Survey in Cambridge, England.
In a region known for the lowest temperatures recorded on Earth, it normally is too cold to snow across the 2.7 million squares miles of the ice sheet. Any additional annual snowfall in East Antarctica, therefore, is almost certainly due to warmer temperatures, four experts on Antarctica said.
“As the atmosphere warms, it should hold more moisture,” said climatologist Joseph R. McConnell at the Desert Research Institute in Reno, who helped conduct the study. “In East Antarctica, that means there should be more snowfall.”
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2005/05/20/MNGS9CS5141.DTL&type=science
So what we’re seeing in Antarctica is exactly what was predicted in the warming models: a higher average temperature increases the amount of moisture held in the atmosphere over the Antarctic and increases the rate of local snowfall, which increases the extent – but only temporarily, if warming continues, after which melting will occur – of the southern ice cap.
Next year the Nobel committee plans to honor O. J. Simpson for his tireless search for the real killers of Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman.
I agree with Penny. Gore isn’t in any position to make a run at the presidential nomination. He supported Dean the last go-round and has pissed-off a lot of high profile Dems and their supporters with his anti-war rants. He has basically burned all his bridges and is in no position to begin a campaign while Hillary and the Magic Negro are well ensconced in theirs.
Even the most rabid Dem has a hard time buying into his global warming theories and that is his ultimate achilles heel. Who wants a president that wants to ruin the domestic economy with wild
and crazy ideas? The dems might be a little crazy but they’re not totally insane.
For days I’ve been hoping Al would win, if only so that I could come over to SDA and watch all the little… err, budding scientists, go apeshit.
Well done.
Arthur A.: “For days I’ve been hoping Al would win …”
A glimpse into the hopes and dreams of puds.
Richard Ball: Good one!
Arthur:
In case you hadn’t noticed, Algore’s prize was not earned for scientific truth.
Peace prize does not equal scientific truth in my world.
How exactly was the cause of world peace honoured here? Oh, yeah, the United Nations part of it, the one world government.
Being that the whole global warming/ethanol fuel thing is going to starve and cause malnutrition for third world peasants because it will drive up the price of food, I don’t quite understand how Al is a hero.
This is almost as goofy as when Jimmy Carter won the Nobel prise for peanuts.
Let us see now.
The committee of fine people selected a guy that made a B grade science fiction movie, to receive a Nobel Peace Prize.
Why?
What is it that the guy has done for peace?
If what Hewitt listed is true, the guy is obviously a liar.
Did the committee give Nobel Peace Prize to a liar?
There is something in the minds of these fine people that compels them to make irrational decisions. That would be because there, on the face of it is nothing specific to peace that the guy has done. One would expect that a peace prize is given in honor to someone that has done something outstanding, extraordinary, for the cause of peace.
As it is then, the Swedish committee that awarded the Nobel Peace Prize is composed of lotus eaters, those who go about being alive, not worrying about anything and are happy with themselves, sort of like that joke about the blond that was happily reaching with her arms here and there to see if she can catch some thoughts in her hands.
To me it doesn’t make much sense to grow food to essentially make whiskey so we can burn it in cars and SUV’s. I, and I believe the 3’rd world people would rather use the grain to produce actual food.
Thanks to Gore and Suzuki more people will starve in the furture as they shamed and scare mongered us to ease our consciences to burn rationed food (in the form of Ethanol) in cars rather than actually feed people. And its just starting, Grain prices are starting to go up, Grain supplies will become more scarce for food in 5 to 10 years as demand for Ethanol increases.
People will starve, but this is a small price to pay as Gore and Suzuki will have achieved their goal in that we will have reduced out CO2 output.
The starved people won’t care lot if the world warms up by 0.5 Deg. More money for Gore and the rest of us.
Ethanol produces 70% more greenhouse gases than oil.
Waddabunchomorons.
Make that Norwegian crowd instead of Swedish
If those Euro intellectuals believe that Big Al belongs deserves the same award as that that old kleptocrat, terrorist, Yasser Arafat, who am I to argue? Yasser stole his millions from some of the most desperate and poor people on the planet. At least Big Al is getting his millions for the most part by fleecing urban rubes. Although he is having a trickle down effect:
“NEW DELHI: This is eco-logic gone perverse. Now, if a UK citizen flies to India on a holiday to see the Taj Mahal, he can cleanse himself of the guilt of greenhouse gases (GHGs) emitted from burning fuel by ensuring farmer families in India stop using diesel pump sets and instead begin pumping water manually….”
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/India/Poor_joke_on_carbon_credits/rssarticleshow/2381365.cms
Too bad Yasser is not with us anymore. Wouldn’t it be grand to see him congratulating Al and planting a kiss on his cheek with those big luscious lips that he had?
(Hope you weren’t in the middle of a meal)
Just a note — Al Gore never won an Oscar. His film won two Oscars, but he was not credited with the wins.
My apologies – Gore is not on the board of Google, my usually reliable source was incorrect, I should have checked for myself. I am still of the opinion he was an early investor in Google and retains his shares.
Nobel prizes have been awarded for 105 years. Each category gets a set amount of money. My question is: Did Nobel leave enough money, that invested wisely over the years, raises the money for the prize. What was the original amount of his fortune. Where does the money come from.
More importantly, where is the money invested, maybe we should use the same people so we can also get rich.
Huh? My friend won the prize in ’85 as part of a group of physicians.
Gore won, along with an internationally respected inclusive group of the most highly respected researchers in the world.
You want to bicker about insignifigant tripe?
I remember being at this site when you whiners were scapegoating a supposed non credible placement of a temperature recording device that some fanatic obsessed over and you all bought into.
I mean it, get over your infantile pretentions of meaningful rhetort and criticism. I don’t care if Gore is so stunningly insipid as to glorify the death of animals, he has been awarded THE Nobel Prize for Peace, and it is said and done, and you can’t do anything about it but eat crow over the fact that you are fricking stupid and wrong about climate change, and the rest of the world moves on without you.
Small dead Brain Cells, that would be a more witty name for this trash.
“…fricking stupid and wrong”?
Such high rhetoric, mikmik; we’re all falling at your feet to retract our witty trash… NOT.
Too bad that same court cant order gore to return that undeserved prize i mean he should be made to return that oscar becuase his film is certianly no documentry
