At first glance, this appears to be a new pre-campaign ad by the NDP. (Video at link)
But something’s a little odd. What’s that in Mr. Calvert’s hand?

It appears reminiscent of an NDP brochure used in the November 2003 campaign.
And while we’ve just recorded the second coolest August ever, I don’t recall streets full of people clad in fall jackets.

So, why the old footage? Was Lorne unavailable for filming? The official line is that he’s still Premier, still in complete charge of the province’s business. Yet, this latest ad feels less like a political message than it does a “proof of life” event. Next installment: Lorne in an Adidas tracksuit, Gary Doer at his side.
And what’s this?

Now, there’s an image I’ve seen before. I think, though I stand to be corrected, that it was part of a Sasktel ad – a crown corporation.
Does anyone else out there recognize it, or recall the source?

…gotta be a SaskTel ad, I don’t see any mountains in the backgroundm and LOOK, there’s Fido still running away in the distance.
Even after 3 years.
😉
…the first ad sure looks like Conrad Black.
Here’s all their ads.

Ah, this is nothing. In Ontario Dalton McGuinty is promising us a February stat holiday … if we re-elect him.
Coming next from McPinHead: “I’ll stop lying … if you re-elect me. Trust me.”
Those clothes are so 2003.
I kinda remember the sasktel ad you’re referring too. I’m not 100% sure that image is from the sasktel ad. It could be. I remember it as the woman being in her broken down SUV, a guy comes up to help her, she gets a bit nervous and locks her door, but then asks to borrow a cell phone through the window. The stranger obliges, and the commercial is meant to show us Sasktels’ superior cell coverage of the province. (My apologies for the run-on sentance).
I don’t “think” that’s the same woman. Maybe it’s from a different commercial.
Does Sasktel youtube their ads now?
I hate to rain on anyone’s parade, but, if Saskatchewan is “booming”, why are house prices still so cheap? It doesn’t compute.
Here in the Okanagan, we are in a “boom” economy, and real estate has skyrocketed, prices have doubled in the last four years, and , unfortunately, it’s almost impossible for young people to buy a house, most condos are out of reach.
Just checked MLS.ca, and in Regina, you can get a decent house for under 300k. In the outlying areas, house prices start at the price of a good used car here.
If Calvert and company have created a “booming” economy, and kept house prices to an affordable level, as they are in Regina, he is a magician.
What about wages, what does a good tradesman, a carpenter, earn hourly? Other occupations, registered nurse, welder, mechanic?
The only way I know to judge the economic status of an area is, not by statistics, but by real life wages and prices. If Calvert has built an economy where I can earn $25 an hour in the average construction trade, and buy a house for half the price here, I’ll be seeing you soon, Lorne.
If it’s been grabbed from a Sasktel ad, someone’s in deep doo-doo, I think. It would amount to the NDP using Crown assets for party purposes. The scene in which the father throws the car keys to the kid rings a bell, too.
Even if it turns out that the ad is not a crown corp ad, *but* they recycled the story board, is that still not unethical?
What do Sask Party adds look like? Or are they just going to contnue to get walked all over. As bad as the NDP adds are, they are probably working to some degree and we all know it. Whereas the Sask Parties silence well……..
You do know that the page scrolls, eh Pierce?
What a cute little scandal.
Forlorne Calvert doesnt want to be seen wearing that Ahmadinejad jacket with Ed in a suit. Ed looks too prosperous even with Forlornes new teeth.
I first saw the dipper commercial last night, and I had that feeling that I had seen this before. sorry I can’t be of more help!
Ooops. It looks good and it is the first I have seen of them. I was getting nervous that they were just going to sit on their hands and be branded.
At least the NDP knows how to spell Saskatchewan. I remember one Brad “Stampeder Fan” Wall standing beside a green screen that had the name of our province spelled wrong. PATHETIC.
Greg’s right, the NDP brain-trust can spell Saskatchewan, might as well re-elect them. (rolls eyes)
The dippers are getting desperate. greg’s big issue is that a production op mispelled Saskatchewan on a commercial.
Immediately after the 2003 election, the NDP raised the PST and Harry Van Mulligan said that it wasn’t a popular thing to talk about during an election campaign, while their compaign consisted entirely on the SK Party’s “hidden agenda”.
Seems as though the NDP proved that they had a hidden agenda all their own.
But greg, the hardcore dipper, focusses on mispelling rather than a bald-faced lie to the Saskatchewan people. And people like greg think that’s OK.
Now that is PATHETIC!
Bring on the wailing, moaning and prophecies of doom. We did it in BC and dumped the NDP. A truly glorious feeling seeing the NDP reduced to 2 seats.
May Saskatchewan have the same good fortune. BC’s economy has been on a uprise since the moment they lost.
enough
NDP ad men (former Real Estate agents obviously) may want to note that “BOASTS” was on last years list of most overused words. Every Real Estate idiot in the country was using it to describe the “master bedroom” in a studio apartment. Now the NDP jumps on the buzzword bandwagon to prove just how out of touch they really are. Just as a note: I don’t hear too many people BOASTING about anything the NDP did.
Hey, whatever happened to the old Progressive Conservative Party of “Sasketchwan”?
Why are they not involved? And whatever happened to all those folks who supported them who, you know, disappeared from the PC party after that nasty little expense-claim scandal? Where did they all go?
Hmmmm..who woulda thunk that Sasketchawan politics could be so riveting?
dmorris: “but, if Saskatchewan is “booming”, why are house prices still so cheap? It doesn’t compute.
Here in the Okanagan, we are in a “boom” economy…”
Simple answer – who’s buying up the places in the Okanagan? How many of them are permanent residence and how many are employed?

Let’s add copyright violation to the long list of NDP (mis)behaviours
I admit, I don’t know much about Mr. Calvert. But I admire his whiskey.
just wondering if the $1079 utility saving over Alberta makes up for the net $3000 income tax increase or the average $2000 PST paid.
I get a $4000 disadvantage , but my calcs could be off.
This is what happens when your initial roll-out is leaked and you have to scramble to undo the damage. The ad was probably story boarded and in preproduction, but nothing ready for edit. So, off they go to the archives.
I like the one name thing. You remember Mao and Lenin? Now get ready for CALVERT!
You know why the NDP doesn’t want us to be like Alberta? Because then all the Albertans involved in the exodus (currently statscan says 129) would be forced to move to BC.
And there goes the NDP immigration plan.
does nnyone remember when Forlorne Calvert solicited the Chinese to come over and develop the saskatchewan oilsands? apparently he didnt like the enterprise on the other side of the border so was going to do it the Hugo Chavez way.
is he having second thought about having all the machinary painted with lead paint?
why did they never show up?

You left out the double to triple property taxes. Comparing to rural BC, to rural Sask.
here it is ,

I want to see his new chicklets! Give us a big smile, Lorne!
cal2@3:02
They opted for free enterprise by buying 40% of Northern Light oil sands in Alberta.
the chinese opted to buy in free enterprise style not the gubmint of sask.
Forlorne originally wanted them to take leases without bidding on them . a hugo chavez make work project. now we know that the quality control will be impeccable
and yes as you pointed out , they opted for Alberta instead of Saskatchewan.
perhaps they think of Saskatchewan like Newfoundland, land of the moving deal run by Danny “whine for wine” Williams.
You Tories are sure stupid. Who reads this crap?
“Sask gains at Alberta’s expense”…
More like “Sask gains unemployment at Alberta’s massive and worthy expense”.
That should have been a screencap, but I guess Calvert gives one lots to options choose from.
Horrid leftist media will probably be enough to win it all again for the NDP anyway…
“You Tories are sure stupid. Who reads this crap?”
Apparently you do, you dumb sh*t.
Doesn’t that woman have an iPhone?
Well there ya go. SaskTel’s been hiding something from us.
