Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

David Suzuki is taken to task by a real scientist.
[The urge to save humanity is almost always a false front for the urge to rule.]
Trust me, I am here to save you. Heard that one before ??
[In February Suzuki stormed out of an AM640 Toronto radio interview when interviewer, John Oakley, made the accurate observation that global warming science is not a “totally settled issue.”]
Truth hurts eh ?? When you are beat — walk out.
[When Greenpeace founder Patrick Moore and I ask him to name these disappearing species, Suzuki is unable.]
Called his bluff.
[What he is doing is tantamount to shouting fire in a theatre – a crime in many jurisdictions.]
So why is he not charged ??
[The more topics Suzuki covers the more new groups are apprised of his bias and ignorance of the facts. As the old French political comment says, the higher up the tree the monkey goes, the more he shows his backside.]
Unable to cover his ass.
[Similarly, I would like to see history’s false profits of environmental doom held to account, starting with David Suzuki. Over many years he has presented one doomsday scenario after another, most, to my knowledge, far removed from reality and failing to materialize. For example, about 20 years ago he said we had 10 years left before environmental collapse. He needs to explain why his warnings of doom proved baseless. He needs to explain why he frequently uses incomplete or inaccurate information and why he believes exploitation of fear, even with young children, improves anything or leads to sensible, scientifically based progress.]
Why are the end-of-the-worlders always let off the hook when proven a fraud ??
[One must wonder how many billions have been misspent because of the exploitation of fear and lack of knowledge of David Suzuki and his fellow travelers. Consider the energy problems in Ontario, the $6 billion allocated to climate change by the Federal government since 1997, the pressuring of Prime Minister Jean Chrétien to sign Kyoto, the stress created in the salmon, forestry, farming and many other industries not to mention the communities seriously compromised by the activities of David Suzuki, his Foundation and their allies.]
Suzuki and Gore have stolen $Billions.
Suzuki’s fanatical crusade is slowly but surely unravelling — why did it take so long ?? IMO, because the media perpetuated the hoax.

If I remember correctly, it was dr fruit fly, and his merry band of morons who were preaching that we were all going to freeze to death because of global cooling. Once again, it is time to remind everyone how wrong these enviro-idiots have been on every major enviro issue that they spew on about.
1. DDT – how many innocent people have died?
2. Recycling – let’s have 2 fleets of diesel trucks picking up our garbage, instead of 1(the mob LOVES recycling)
3. Incineration – again. lets use diesel trucks to haul garbage, instead of using CLEAN technology to create energy from our waste
4. Nuclear – self explanatory on this one – zero emissions, mega energy
5. Global cooling/warming/climate change – pure idiocy
The way that these idiots go on about our waste, you would think that it was from another planet, and it was all toxic. Last I heard, what came from the earth, can go back into the earth.
One more thing. I read on some lefty blog that it is tantamount to child abuse if a parent does not brainwash their children to believe in the hysteria of global warming. Lets look at this a little closer. My children are being taught to examine all of the facts before drawing conclusions(on all issues, not just enviro). My children are not being brainwashed to believe that the planet could self-destruct within a decade. My children actually believe that humans are great, and that they have a wonderful future. My children are being taught that humans can and will find solutions to todays energy problems.
Whereas leftoids are raising their children to believe that the planet is dying, all humans are bad, all progress is bad. Who are the child abusers????? At least my kids do not have nightmares about impending doom, and do have big dark stress circles around their eyes. My kids will never need meds because dad filters all the bulls#$%.
and do NOT have big dark stress circles

[What he is doing is tantamount to shouting fire in a theatre – a crime in many jurisdictions.] So why is he not charged ??
Ron, shouting fire in a theatre would no longer get much of a reaction. Someone shouting “global warming!!!” in a theatre would cause widespread panic and damage. In the case of Al Gore, it would also result in a hefty speaker’s fee.
Why are the end-of-the-worlders always let off the hook when proven a fraud ??
When end of the world scenarios don’t work out, it’s because actions were taken and the threat was averted. In the case of global warming, sages will point back to July, 2007 when Madonna took the stage and said, “If you want to save the planet, everybody jump!”. At that precise moment global warming lost its force and ceased to be a threat to the planet.
If they hadn’t jumped, we would still be doomed.

The Daily Kossacks Ride Again
By Shawn Macomber
When DailyKos diarist Stephanie Block’s conservative father invited her to join him at a White House Hanukah party, she used the occasion to register her disagreement with Bush Administration polices via contagion, purposely sneezing on her “biohazardous right hand” before offering it to the president in the greeting line.
“I was getting over the flu and watched the news for days to see of[sic] Bush got it,” Block giddily relates.

the Wedge–yup–we are well on our way to an anything goes country. Other articles have stated that the government has no business investigating because this is a religious belief! So bring on female circumcision in Canada, that is a religious belief! Sharia law should be welcomed with open arms in Canada–it is a religious belief also. Wait until the pedophiles form their own religion that promotes sex with children–that should get Whitmore off the hook? Just because it is illegal in Canada doesn’t mean it is illegal–you just have to have the right spin!
@John Cross, slept through the 70’s did you? I was preteen and teen aged then and I can easily remember the hysteria, for the time, from the media.
Ron in K….. Good One!
Note how the MSM are furious that they were asked to leave the hotel where the CPC are holding their annual policy retreat. The MSM are acting as if they have a ‘right’ to be at this meeting, as if they have a right to be kept fully informed of the issues being discussed, of the various solutions being debated and so on.
But they don’t have any such right – just as they have no right to be at an NDP or Liberal or Bloc or Green Party policy debate.
The G&M, in its fully monitored discussion site, is actively promoting a ‘hate Stephen Harper’ situation – by encouraging a plethora of rabid and ignorant posters who are treating this policy retreat As If it were a public meeting – and the public was being kept out. There are posters screaming about ‘transparent government’ and so on.
The MSM – the Globe and Star – are both setting up the CPC meeting as if it were a government rather than party meeting – and insisting that ‘the public has the right to know what is being discussed’.
No- we don’t. This is just another example of MSM biased actions against the CPC. Just as we say yesterday, with CTV’s action against the CPC.

Jim: The key word is media. In particular I remember that there was a Newsweek article that talked about it. However there was never a great deal of science to support it and almost nothing in the peer-reviewed papers to support the idea of an imminent ice age.
Regards,
John
I have an old article from the late 70s early 80s up in the magazine storage by that other pop scientist Carl Sagan talking about the pending global cooling caused by fossil fuels.
a more respected scientist in the 1950s Jon Von Neumann proposed climate manipulation,
from Wikipedia
Von Neumann entertained notions which would now trouble many. His love for meteorological prediction led him to dream of manipulating the environment by spreading colorants on the polar ice caps in order to enhance absorption of solar radiation (by reducing the albedo) and thereby raise global temperatures.
The barley growers should sue Calvert for lost revenue. I mean they have a better case than he has in his suit against the feds for not giving him even MORE $$$ in equalization.
Cal2: do you have a reference for Sagan? I was aware of his nuclear winter, but that is a different issue.

John
ron in k you missed one.
“If the science is settled, then this all must be an enormous waste of money.”
Indeed,
🙂
As i have said numerous times the G&M is is enticing a riot, Bash the PM.(Media removed from retreat/Hotel)
interesting thing is, there must be an overload as there is no change in the comments since 10:28.
is in a pile of back issues, Im thinking “Discovery” Ill have to dig. one of those minds eye things. It was the back page article.
nuclear winter was around the same time. I think they worried about particulate matter at the time instead of CO2 , they also claimed at one time (not Carl Sagan) that the Soviets had modified the weather with radar and were causing the US to freeze. I remember the russians rebuking it ,saying if they control the weather they would fix theirs first before they wrecked ours.

john cross – it wasn’t simply popular science, which would, after all, have to originate in some scientific discourse.
Try C. Emiliani. Kukla. The early part of the 20th century saw a lot of scientific work on climate change, and concluded that climate change was natural, was cyclical, and had complex causes – and a major cause, but not the only one, was the planet’s relation to its only source of energy, the sun.
But, I’m sure you will disagree.
So Greenpeace is setting up shop in Edmonton. Their goal? To shut down the tarsands.
Dig, they want to shut down the economic engine of Canada for less than 2% of the world’s CO2 emissions.
When thinking about Greenpeace having an office in Edmonton why do I picture an abortion clinic in Alabama?
bryanr – it’s possible that the G&M comments being unchanged is due to the fact that it’s a fully moderated commentary and the moderator is looking for Bash Harper comments – not the valid ones that state that the MSM has no business being present at a political party’s retreat session.
The MSM has no involvement in the Liberal, NDP, Bloc, Green party political retreats – and yet, the G&M is deliberately defining the CPC retreat as a GOVERNMENT debate, ie, public, rather than a political party retreat session.
Travers and others are continuously harping that the CPC/gov’t has ‘no new ideas’ etc, ignoring that the ideas promoted by the CPC in actual House Motions are continuously watered down or rejected by the leftist House and above all, by the unelected Senate. The liberal MSM says nothing about this undemocratic nature of the Senate.
And the MSM are continously focusing on the 34% ratio- rather than examining the reason for this – a full generation of brainwashing by a Liberal party that it is the ‘natural governing party’ and that Canada is and must be a socialist welfare state, with a passive electorate and all decisions made by the isolated unelected, appointed Ottawa-Montreal mandarins.
That’s the gov’t we had under Trudeau-Chretien – and Canadians have been brainwashed to accept it as the only valid type of government.

When I heard the news late Wednesday afternoon about the Minnesota Interstate 35W bridge collapse, after the initial shock and sadness for the victims, one of my first thoughts was that the Left would try to score points and blame the tragedy on President Bush and the Republicans. et: At one time Emiliani wrote that “a new glaciation will begin within a few thousand years.” I have no objection to this. The key word in my post is imminent. Most (all?) climatologists agree that we are in an interglacial so the question is when the next one will begin (recent EPICA research predicts about another 25,000 years).
I am not aware of Kukla, but I will see what I can find on him.
Regarding your last statement, I agree that it is complex, has many causes (I think continental drift is an often overlooked one). Ultimately of course the sun is 99% of it.

“I was preteen and teen aged then and I can easily remember the hysteria, for the time, from the media.”
Jim, I was there too. There was no hysteria around the reports of a pending ice age. It was commented on a bit in the news, but other than hype in the tabloids, little attention was truly paid to it.
In the past thirty years considerable advancements have been made in climate science.
I very well remember the media hype of the 70s “ice age scare” In fact I made mega $k adjustments to my very climate dependant business.
But ‘Back-to-the-Cave-Dave’ had a better Kult idea and so he and the media ran with anti-CO2, anti-mankind, anti-everything —- except academia and latte.

http://denisdutton.com/cooling_world.htm
albatross and john cross- it depends on the definition of hysteria, for you to claim that, absolutely, there was ‘no hysteria’ about an impending ice age.
There most certainly was a lot of commentary about its imminent occurrence, imminent in the sense of within 100 years, in both the popular press and the scientific community. See S. Schneider, Kukla and Mathews, the US 1973 State Dept report on the ‘interglacial period’ that was ending. Besides the scientific analysis there were some reports claiming ‘human sin’, ie, that cooling was caused by aerosol pollution, eg, manmade. Just as this same mentality is now claiming the same human sin, ie, CO2 emissions.
The climate is complex; there are no singular causes, and the main causes are not primarily human but the far more powerful natural forces. However, pollution – which does affect our lives, is indeed caused by humans, and we can do a great deal to ‘clean up our act’.

Teach your children that it is all fake. Teach them that Suzuki is “evil” and “a thief”.

You can have your oilsands. I’ll have my planet. Time will tell which of us made the better decision.
Take away unions’ loaded gun
…Great Britain itself with twice the population of Canada lost less than 160,000 workdays to strikes in 2005 compared with more than four million in Canada. On a per-capita basis, that means we are subject to 50 times more strike days than the country where trade unionism was born….
….Consider that Canada is one of the only countries in the free world that forces union membership on workers who want to practise certain professions like teaching. In most other countries, governments have decided that it is a basic human right to allow employees to choose whether or not to belong to a union…

throbbin, rather than teaching dogma – which is what you are advocating, I prefer to teach my children the uses of critical thinking and logic, and the scientific method and its differentiation between hypotheses and facts.
With those skills, they can differentiate between the dogma of AGW with its focus on the religious emotionalism of ‘human sin’ and the apocalpytic results of such sin – and the scientific facticity of natural ongoing cyclical climate change.
Most certainly, your ‘either-or’ threats of choosing ‘your way’ versus ‘my way’ are, as are all apocalyptic threats based on a presumption of human sin – chilling and fear inducing. Whether they are anything other than that – is doubtful.
Who said anything about teaching our children that dr fruit fly is evil? He is just a pseudo socialist wallowing at the trough of public money. And if carbon is your big worry, how can that hurt eco-systems? Last I heard, plants gobbled it up. And as far as the oceans rising, ever hear of tides, the moon etc? Not one shred of evidence as far as the “rising oceans” scenario goes. Once again, a leftard encourages scare-mongering amongst our youth. Idiot!

“The Sad Legacy Of David Suzuki
By Citizen Correspondent Timothy Ball”
Last June while surrounded by a sea of climatologists, environmental scientists, biologists, physicists and meteorologists, I was the sole lowly undergrad in a room where I had the pleasure of sitting in on a talk given by Dr. Gordon McBean. Gordon McBean is the Professor in the Departments of Geography and Political Science at the University of Western Ontario, and Project Leader of Science-Policy Interactions within ArcticNet.. Gordon McBean isn’t just an all around nice guy, he is probably Canada’s top atmospheric scientist.
http://www.iisd.org/about/staffbio.aspx?id=638
As is the norm the speaker started off with a bit of levity by asking the room if there were any Timothy Ball fans sitting in. The room broke out in muffled laughter. Yes scientists do have a sense of humour, but it was obvious by the reaction in the room they all agreed as I do that Tim Ball is a quack. Just read the article you are quoting, it’s not difficult to find the errors.
One other thing. As far as I can tell, the current crop of kids at the college/university level do not care about the environment. As a student landlord, I get to hire people to clean up the messes they leave behind, and man, do they leave a mess. I get a once a year copy of utility usage at each property, and the energy used per student is astounding. No recycling, massive amounts of garbage(1 bag per student per week). Keep up the good work moonbats, it is doing wonders.
A perspective on what is considered “progress”:
An old Native Chief sat in his hut
An old Native Chief sat in his hut on the reservation, smoking a
ceremonial pipe and eyeing two Government officials sent to
interview him. “Chief Two Eagles” asked one Official, “you have
observed the white man for 90 years. You’ve seen his wars and his
technological advances. You’ve seen his progress and the damage
he’s done.”
The Chief nodded in agreement.
The Official continued, “Considering all these events, in your
opinion, where did the white man go wrong?”
The C hief stared at the Government officials for over a minute
and then calmly replied, “When white man found the land, Natives
were running it. No taxes, no debt, plenty buffalo, plenty beaver,
women did all the work, Medicine Man free, Indian man spent all
day hunting and fishing, and all night having sex.”
Then the Chief leaned back and smiled, “Only white man dumb
enough to think he could improve system like that.”
Throbbin at August 2, 2007 1:06 PM
It’s a nice idea but I’m afraid we are all on the same big blue marble. Where they go, so do we.
The problem isn’t pollution, it’s a symptom. The problem is diminishing resources, it’s a symptom. The problem isn’t a pending pandemic, it’s a symptom and the problem isn’t global warming, it’s a symptom.
The real problem is over population. There are simply too many of us competing for a limited planet. Until we find an ethical way to reduce the population of the earth (first of all by not having 16 children per couple) we are going to continue to have these problems. Until then we need to learn how to control those symptoms.
Like Canada could not use some global warming. Here in Vancouver, a little less rain would be nice. I also live on a big hill so the rise in oceans would be ok. You would also think the lefties would be happy to see the rich ocean front property owners lose their land. And it is not global warming anymore, it is climate change. much more inclusive.
Ah, overpopulation. The western countries have been doing a fine job depopulating themselves. All western countries depend on immigration for growth. 3rd world countries should maybe develop themselves and they will be too busy working to have 16 children.
The sky is falling, the sky is falling.

Suzuki has debated the issue over and over in the recognized journals. In comparison Suzuki is very highly publish unlike people such as Ball and Lomborg. The problem is Tim Ball refuses to publish anything because he knows he did would be eaten alive by real climate scientists. If he has something to say then lets see him publish and defend himself under real scrutiny, not from the uninformed public.
Ball has a good things going here and he knows it. A small percentage of the uninformed public is willing to not only to listen to his disinformation, but to pay to listen to it.
So why is Ball unwilling to publish and defend this ideas?
