[ No I don’t think I know a John Cross. I looked at the blog site but couldn’t find the debate issue. You can tell them from me I have challenged Suzuki for 20 years now almost every time I am on the radio. He will not debate with anyone. Of course, he is in poor company because Gore won’t either. One thing they have in common is they control the interivews they will take and Suzuki walked out on a Toronto radio program recently when asked questions it was obvious he couldn’t answer. They are shams and liars and should be exposed completely.

WARMING IS SOLAR, NOT HUMAN-CAUSED
by André Nijkerk
The climate seminar, hosted by the “Groene

parliament building in The Hague, 3 July, had the
objective to highlight and elaborate on the
“Summary for Policy makers” issued by a group of
scientists gathered under the name:
“NON-governmental International Panel on Climate Change” (NIPCC).
The event was chaired by Prof Arthur
Rorsch. Speakers were Fred Singer, Bas van Geel,
Gerd-Rainer Weber, and Hans Labohm. The audience
of around 80 persons included many Dutch
academics and three ambassadors (New Zealand,
China, and Amb. Eric Javits from US).
S. Fred Singer, is professor emeritus of
environmental sciences at the University of
Virginia, and currently serves as Distinguished
Research Professor at George Mason
University. He is also President of The Science
& Environmental Policy Project, a non-profit
policy-research group he founded in 1990. He
addressed the evidence for testing the hypothesis
of anthropogenic global warming. He delivered
the summary sentences in excellent Dutch but
chose to continue in English. The core of the
lecture centered on comparing the predicted
two-dimensional atmospheric warming profiles
(latitude and altitude) of the models with the
actual temperature rates. The greenhouse models
unanimously predict the warming trends to
maximize in the mid altitudes at low latitudes;
however, the radiosonde data show the
opposite. Consequently, the predicted behaviour
derived from the AGW hypothesis did not
materialize; hence the hypothesis was scientifically falsified.]

More distorted MSM reporting on Iraq by leftist mouthpiece, FoxNews:
Al-Maliki: Americans Can Leave Iraq ‘Any Time They Want’
Saturday, July 14, 2007
BAGHDAD — Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki said Saturday that the Iraqi army and police are capable of keeping security in the country when American troops leave “any time they want,” though he acknowledged the forces need further weapons and training.
The embattled prime minister sought to show confidence at a time when congressional pressure is growing for a withdrawal and the Bush administration reported little progress had been made on the most vital of a series of political benchmarks it wants al-Maliki to carry out.
Al-Maliki said difficulty in enacting the measures was “natural” given Iraq’s turmoil.
But one of his top aides, Hassan al-Suneid, rankled at the assessment, saying the U.S. was treating Iraq like “an experiment in an American laboratory.” He sharply criticised the U.S. military, saying it was committing human rights violations, embarassing the Iraqi government with its tactics and cooperating with “gangs of killers” in its campaign against Al Qaeda in Iraq.
Al-Suneid’s comments were a rare show of frustration toward the Americans from within al-Maliki’s inner circle as the prime minister struggles to overcome deep divisions between Shiite, Sunni and Kurdish members of his coalition and enact the American-drawn list of benchmarks…
Latest round of “withdraw the troops” appeasement rhetoric comes in the form of a new Democrat-sponsored amendment to 2008 DoD appropriations bill that would force White House to establish a plan to drastically reduce the U.S. military presence in Iraq.

Al-Maliki: Americans Can Leave Iraq “Any Time They Want”
According to Khudayr Taher, a US-based Iraqi Shi’ite writer and former associate of Maliki, the Iraqi PM is privately an anti-American Islamist. Now the democratically elected Maliki is saying that American troops are no longer wanted or needed in Iraq. But apparently George “Islam is Peace” Bush would prefer that US soldiers continue to die on behalf of a corrupt Iraqi regime headed by an anti-American Islamist.
Rather than waste thousands more American lives, not to mention hundreds of billions of dollars, in the unreformable hellhole that is Iraq, Khudayr Taher has proposed a solution that would lead to ultimate victory in the war against Islamic terrorism. He wants to ban all further Muslim immigration to the West and deport all Muslim immigrants presently living here, even including himself. He reasons that in the war being waged against the Western world by radical Islam, no Muslim can be fully trusted, not even him, a pro-American, pro-Western Muslim immigrant, so all must go if Western civilization is to survive.
Total separation is the only way to protect our citizens and way of life from Islamic terror. It means Western troops must leave the Middle East and Muslims must leave the West. Finally, this obvious truth has been pointed out to us, by a Muslim immigrant no less.
Good plan would be all Islamics/Muslims leave our Western Democracies and hole up and live out their freaking miseries practicing Islam to the letter. They are a constant friction against everything including among themselves. Constant fighting, killing, terror, torture and all manner of inhumanity to man.
No civilized people in our Western world want to or should even try to tolerate them. In fact we have tried, it’s not working.
The fact remains we can’t trust them. Our troops are fighting an arm of Islam in Afghanistan. Lebanon, which has thousands of “Canadians” as permanent residents is also fighting yet another arm of Islam.
What more proof do we need to see they are not a mix with civility, they are not our friends.
Those who say they are good and “peaceful Muslims”, are indifferent to those who are the opposite. If they can’t clean the shit up from the inside they all stink.

Zawahiri Behind Red Mosque Bloodbath
Was the Egyptian physician, Ayman al-Zawahiri, pulling the strings behind the Red Mosque revolt? The Sunday Times says so: Bin Laden’s deputy behind the Red Mosque bloodbath.
AL-QAEDA’S leadership secretly directed the Islamic militants whose armed revolt at the Red Mosque in Islamabad ended last week with more than 100 deaths after it was stormed by the Pakistan army.
According to senior intelligence officials, the troops who finally took control discovered letters from Osama Bin Laden’s deputy, Ayman al-Zawahiri. They were written to Abdul Rashid Ghazi and Abdul Aziz, the brothers who ran the mosque and adjacent madrasah.
Government sources said up to 18 foreign fighters — including Uzbeks, Egyptians and several Afghans — had arrived weeks before the final shootout and set up firing ranges to teach students, including children, how to handle weapons.
Al-Qaeda has wanted to open a Pakistan front in its global jihad since President Pervez Musharraf sided with America after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. …-

john cross – what continues to puzzle me is why you expect a scientist to ‘debate’ with you. Why do you even mention that you are willing to debate with him but he hasn’t responded? That’s quite arrogant. Why should he? You are very obviously not a scientist, have no expertise in the field, and therefore, what is the function of such a debate? It certainly would not be able to advance knowledge. So?
A scientist should debate with another scientist in the field; that’s done at conferences but above all, in publications, where the full data base is outlined so that it can be reviewed by other scientists. Do you have scientific publiations based on long term research in the field? Your comments reveal the opposite – so, why do you even mention that you are open to a debate but that ‘the other party’ doesn’t seem willing, implying a fault in the other person.
As for scientists debating the activists Suzuki and Gore – the reason they should do this is because Suzuki and Gore have moved the situation out of science and massively into the political realm, but haven’t acknowledged this move. A scientific debate would show that their conclusions have no scientific validity – and that’s why Gore and Suzuki refuse to debate with scientists.
The question of the causes of climate change remains open – as it should, if it’s to remain science and not dogma – and the conclusion at this time is not ‘sealed in human hot air’.
JP – I completely reject your suggestion of ending Muslim immigration and deporting all Muslim immigrants. Never mind the astonishing conclusion of this, that All Muslims are Evil, but, practically, how would you do this?
Build a wall?
Border checks – and what would you do about immigrants who say they have renounced their Islam religion? Or would you do a background check and say ‘once a Muslim, always a Muslim’ – turning it into a genetic characteristic?
There’d be a booming business in fake documents and passports.
Oh – and what about those Muslim immigrants who are now citizens of their particular countries? Deport them too? Because of their religion? Hmmm, shades of the Third Reich/Nazism?
How do you stop illegal immigration – as someone who comes for business and disappears? No more Muslims allowed to even enter the West on business or official national business? No more student visas? No Muslim may set foot in the West?
It’s a simplistic tactic – and, apart from the fact that it’s functionally totally unworkable, it would so isolate and reject the Islamic world that it would actually foment and create hatred.
ET: Ron posted on here and I replied. In the interests of Kate’s rules I am not going to respond further on this thread. If you wish to discuss the topic further we can take it back to the The Email Of Settled Science thread. The discussion of the science is unfinished there as well.

ET:It’s a simplistic tactic – and, apart from the fact that it’s functionally totally unworkable, it would so isolate and reject the Islamic world that it would actually foment and create hatred.
Wow!
And how is this any different from actually engaging them now? I would say distancing ouselves from them is our best tactic to alieviate their irrational hostility.
I’ll refer you to a reply I made to you on another thread a week ago:
Islam must reform itself but who will do the reforming? Irshad Manji could be considered to be at the vanguard of reform-minded individuals, at least here in the west. So too Tarek Fatah. But these people are proverbially “spitting into the wind”. Read Manji’s most recent article to see the distinctions even she makes between so-called moderates and reformers.
3w.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20070704.wxcomanji04/BNStory/International/
Yes the battles currently going on are tribal/sectarian power struggles. But this should all be allowed to run its own course and we should not be trying to introduce a model of government or influence its development prematurely.
One of the biggest problems facing any type of reform is one that is little dicussed: the huge rate of illiteracy in the muslim world. So any kind of democracy at this point gets tipped to quasi-religious regimes (ie. Hamas) that are even more hostile than existing dictatorships (ie. Mubarak). And this is due to an uneducated population forever told to uncritically examine islamic doctrine. Thus what we are faced with is the hope that eventually their people will be ready to have islam and democracy/pluralism co-exist.
So, until that time comes we should be taking every measure to separate ourselves from them. Unworkable? What happened to Japanese here during WW2, and they were arguably less an internal threat than exists presently. When that threat subsides our government can make the proper apologies and restitutions. If that is too extreme then we need to consider revising our security measures by adopting Israeli methods of screening incomers. Unfortunately, for the sensitivities of many Canadians, this means profiling. But we need to start dealing with reality here which I don’t believe you are fully doing.
Hmmm thier getting cold in the land down under and the kangaroos and emus are shivering CROCIDLE DUN DEE is wearing his woolies and ever where its cold and places in SOUTH AMERICA are getting snow and as usial the wackos from GREENPEACE and AL GORE will blame GLOBAL WARMING
ET,
Ending Muslim immigration and deporting all Muslim immigrants is Khudayr Taher’s proposal, not mine. Compared to him, I’m a moderate. I would end ALL immigration, to get around any anti-discrimination laws, and deport all radical Muslim immigrants. The citizenship conferred on radicals can and should be revoked. Citizenship is a privilege, not a right, and any immigrant who criminally abuses this privilege should be deported forthwith.
I don’t conclude that All Muslims Are Evil, just that it was a huge mistake to admit followers of a religion totally incompatible with Western values into our societies. It’s not too late to begin correcting this mistake by banning further immigration and deporting the radicals amongst us.
Visas for students, tourists and business people from Muslim countries should be severely curtailed, not expanded as George Bush has recently done. The 19 September 11 terrorists all needed visas to enter the US, which were issued perfunctorily under the current, suicidally lax system. Illegal immigrants should be deported without delay. Employers and landlords who hire or rent to illegals should be heavily fined.
As for isolating and rejecting the Islamic world, to this I plead guilty. If this foments and creates hatred towards us by Muslims, well what doesn’t make them hate us? Poll after poll in the Muslim world and among Muslims living in the West show their contempt for our secular, democratic values and their support for violence to achieve political aims. We must work to protect our peoples and nations and not worry about offending people who seem to take offence at our very existence.
Let me ask you, ET, are you in favor of the status quo? Do you think that Canada should continue to import 200 Muslims immigrants per day into our country? Should we continue to tolerate large numbers of radical Muslim individuals, mosques, schools, community centres and newspapers in Canada? If not, do you have any suggestions about what we should do about this existential Islamic threat to our nation and civilization?
mrv – change will not come in the Islamic world if it is isolate from modernizing influences.
Again, how would you isolate Muslims from the West, and the West refers, not just to Canada, but to all of the modern industrial world. How would you do it? You haven’t answered this, and internment camps just for being of another religion?
The West isn’t at war with the Islamic religion; it is at war with Islamic fascism – and it is an error to merge the two.
Change cannot come from internal forces in the ME if those internal forces are repressed under military dictatorships – with these dictatorships funded by oil. That’s why it was right to remove Saddam Hussein.
Comparing Israeli screening of people coming in from one spatial location to a massive world wide screening of adherents to a specific religion is an invalid comparison.
Irshad Manji is only one of many. Google ‘progressive thinking in contemporary Islam’ and you’ll find lists of Muslims working to reform Islam.
Yes, you are absolutely right, the low rates of literacy in some of the ME countries is a major factor preventing change. But, allowing them to be under dictatorships, such as the Taliban and Hussein, keeps the literacy low.
Again – how would you stop any and all Muslims from entering the West? Would you intern all Muslims in the West who are citizens, or just recent immigrants? What about people who immigrated decades ago but never bothered to take out citizenship? What about people who say they don’t follow the faith seriously? How do you define a Muslim from one who is not?
[ET: Ron posted on here and I replied. In the interests of Kate’s rules I am not going to respond further on this thread.] John Cross
Have to do better than that John, otherwise you will just be known as a flake.
For years and years Tim Ball has asked Suzuki and others to debate so-called man-made-global-warming. On radio, TV, in major print media. Suzuki’s response ?? More fanatic dogma.
And John Cross reveals that he once posted a comment asking Tim Ball to “discuss” !!?? And we are to beleive that these two debate requests are comparable ??
Please prove me wrong, if you can John, but are you just a payed pawn of the Kyoto Kult ?? Paid to run mindless interference ??
jp- no, you are generalizing. The polls don’t show their contempt for the values of the West; they show SOME Muslims with contempt for the West’s values but not ALL.
The same could be said for socialism and communism, whose adherents also claim contempt for the democratic and capitalist values of the West and their support for violence against the West.
I agree that non-citizens who foment hatred should be deported, but I don’t think you can deport citizens – recent or those who are born in the country and have become radicalized. You can imprison them but not deport them. I agree with deporting illegals.
But the above criteria would have to be applicable to any individuals, not just Muslims.
Rejecting isolationist tendencies of new immigrants in Canada requires rejecting our balkanizing multicultural policies and insisting on integration. We must reject state-funding for religious schools and centres. But that would have to be valid for all religions and ethnic groups.
JP:
I posted Khudayr Taher’s article here a couple of days ago. Although I understand why he said what he did (untrustworthy/taqiyya/loyalty), I think its unreseasonable to suggest a mass deportation of Muslims. However, I fully agree with ending Muslim immigration. Regardless of the good Muslim, bad Muslim debate – it’s not our debate and it’s not our problem to solve. Especially not on our soil. And especially not when our citizens are put at violent risk. Furthermore, this is costing the citizen taxpayer and business far too much in otherwise unnecessary, yet increasing security costs and travel/time costs. It is also a major contributor to the $5 billion or so, we as taxpayers pay towards the settlement of such immigrants in our country every year.
And what do we get back? The negatives associated with Muslim immigration far out weigh the positives. In fact, is there even one benefit?
There should be a moratorium on Muslim immigration until this matter is settled. If ever.
ET,
You are projecting again. I don’t know why an otherwise intelligent commentor would do this.
“Never mind the astonishing conclusion of this, that All Muslims are Evil…”
That’s a false charge.
Muslims are people like everyone else. However, like everybody else, when exposed and inculcated into an evil ideology, yes those people can become evil. The ideology of Islam is evil. In fact, far more evil than Naziism (which somehow you bizarrely continue to compare comments on this topic to) because it’s cloaked as a religion, in the Abrahamic tradition, therefore giving evil divine approval. It’s adherents, over the course of its history, have been estimated to have murdered 275 million people in order to spead ‘the religion of peace’. More than any other ideology.
It also converts 30,000 convicts in the US penal system every year. Ever wonder why it’s so appealing to convicts?
Ending Muslim immigration is not difficult. Most of it could be accomplished by simply announcing it and not allowing Muslim immigration from predominately Islamic countries. A little due dilligence would do the rest.
ET,
Since 9/11, Western nations have foolishly allowed millions of Muslims to immigrate to the West. We are in a deep hole, yet we continue to dig. Why should we allow one more Muslim into our society? Why take the risk?
Ossi Bin Laden has been heard from again? Geez, is he speaking from the dead or have they done a taxidermy job and animated it?
Makes sense to keep him in some form to instill terror and spur on the crazies.
Wonder if his likeness gave blessing to his married son’s second wedding to some wacko British granny?
It’s fun to play silly beggars but this stuff is not funny.
“they show SOME Muslims with contempt for the West’s values but not ALL.”
A CBC poll from this spring showed that 27% of Muslims in our country somewhat to completely supported the Toronto terrorists and their objective. That converts to around 50,000 Muslims. “Contempt?”
A similar poll performed in the US showed that 24% supported terrorist actions in the US.
Britain, the same.
“SOME” is an understatement. This type of illogical reasoning makes it appear that you’re becoming an Islamic apologist.
john cross – I’ve taken the discussion to the email thread.
Irwin daisy and jp – we’ve been over this before. I don’t know what you mean by ‘projecting’. And I don’t see how you are going to succeed in rejecting Muslim immigration; they will come in, with passports stating they are Christian and ‘fear persecution’ and require immigration.
It would be impossible to monitor. Furthermore, if you say that there’s a high rate of conversion to Islam in US prisons, then, stopping Muslim immigration wouldn’t stop the growth of a militant Islam in our midst.
I also disagree with you that the ideology of islam is evil; the ideology of Islamic fascism is evil but I don’t equate the two. You and JP do.
Furthermore, both of you reject that Islam can be reformed.
Not much to discuss, is there?
irwin daisy,
Thanks for the link to the Khudayr Taher story. You helped publicize this brave man’s proposal, which is now spreading across the web. Take a bow, sir.
I agree with everything you wrote in the above two posts. Stopping Muslim immigration is something that should be done TODAY for our own self-preservation. The debate over deportations can wait until we stop importing vast numbers of our enemies.
“And I don’t see how you are going to succeed in rejecting Muslim immigration; they will come in, with passports stating they are Christian and ‘fear persecution’ and require immigration.”
This may be true to a very small degree. However, if banning Muslim immigration became official policy, Muslims coming into this country through deception would be a trickle compared to no holds barred, full on Muslim immigration, don’t you think?
Furthermore, if there is doubt, the immigrant can be put on probation for a number of years before citizenship is granted. What’s Switzerland’s wait? I think 9 years?
As far as militant Islam and conversion rates here are concerned. There needs to be a complete crackdown on militant islam in prisons, mosques, schools, etc, as well. These imam preachers of hate and murder must be charged with hate crimes and incarcerated or deported. A strong, single-minded, zero tolerance message needs to go out to the Muslims in NA, matched by action. They did it with drinking and driving, the same for militant islam.
Hey, I’m still waiting for a counter argument on how Islam can possibly be reformed without editing out most of the Quran and rejecting Mohammad.
Violence is foundational to Islam. That’s where the fascism, terrorism is bred.
“I’ve been made victorious with terror.” – Mohammad (Sahih Bukhari, Vol. 4, Book 52, No.220)
Contrary to what Muslims claim, Islam is not the fastest growing religion in America, and quoting news broadcasters and politicians (who get their information from CAIR) does not make it true. Here are the facts from Adherents.com:

Sikhism +338%
New Age +240%
Hinduism +237%
Baha’i +200%
Buddhism +170%
Native American Religion +119%
Nonreligious/Secular +110%
Islam +109%

Thanks JP. However, I’ve done little. Finding stories from other sites and making them available for others is a small contribution to the ongoing dialogue.
And I fully agree. Even though there are good or moderate Muslims (I know many, although I’m still not with the ‘vast majority’ claim), the only rational thing to do is ban Muslim immigration. Anything else is criminal in my opinion.
Sadly, on the present course, it’ll more than likely take the blood of more innocent civilians to crush the multiculti propoganda machine and government appeasement.
Irwin says: “It’s adherents, over the course of its history, have been estimated to have murdered 275 million people in order to spead ‘the religion of peace’. More than any other ideology.”
Do you have a source for these claims? I don’t question your integrity, I am genuinely curious.
“But the end result of multiculturalism in the real world is an insidious relativism. So Jimmy Carter turns a blind eye to Hamas’ street executions. Gordon Brown fears offending radical Muslims, and Nancy Pelosi flies to embrace Syrian president and terrorist enabler Bashar Assad.
Conservatives more often believe in universal absolutes: Some things like authoritarianism are always worse; others like freedom are always better, regardless of cultural differences.
At home in a freewheeling, affluent society, such rigid consistency may seem reactionary, unimaginative and unrealistic. But abroad, it can translate into something different, as more Western conservatives than liberals have supported such troublemaking champions of individual rights as former Soviet dissident Natan Sharansky or the Somali-born former Dutch legislator Ayaan Hirsi Ali.
Finally, there are tactics. Liberals believe more in universal redemption through nonviolence. Evil is not so much innate as it is a result of poverty, prejudice or some sort of oppression. Its antidote then should be education, understanding, dialogue and diplomacy. So don’t give up on an Assad, demonize Islamists or isolate Hamas.
Conservatives are more likely to believe evil is elemental, so combating and isolating it is the necessary first step in protecting the weaker from harm.
Who, then, condemns religious fanaticism, terrorists and their illiberal state supporters in the Middle East? Not necessarily, as we would expect, contemporary liberals. Instead, they now more often rail about the Patriot Act at home than the jailing or killing of innocents in places like Damascus and Gaza.”

Hens are as happy in battery farms
By Des Houghton and Richard Gray, Sunday Telegraph
Last Updated: 1:18am BST 15/07/2007
Contentedly pecking seed in the open countryside, free-range hens have carefree lives that their counterparts in battery farms can only dream about, or so it has long been believed.
In fact, caged hens are no more stressed than those that roam free, researchers have discovered.
Scientists measured corticosterone, a hormone produced in response to stress or fear, in eggs from free-range and caged hens. They found that the levels in both were very similar.
Free-range hens suffer stresses that battery hens do not have to deal with, according to Jeff Downing, who led the research at Sydney University. “If they have no cover they are constantly in fear of attack by predators,” he explained. “You can see it. A shadow comes over and they are completely startled.”
Andrew,
Oddly, when I search for historical genocide due to the spread of Islam, I now get apologists and defensive, comparative lies – ie Christianity has killed more, Hindu’s have killed more, etc.
Although, when you do the same sort of search for Nazi or communist genocide, all you get are facts.
I wonder what would happen under Christian genocide.
This white-washing is a recent but growing phenomenom. Just look at the sites, ie Jihad Watch, that are being barred on the internet.
Daniel Pipes has this to say:
The Muslim conquests, down to the 16th century, were for the Hindus a pure struggle of life and death. Entire cities were burnt down and the populations massacred, with hundreds of thousands killed in every campaign, and similar numbers deported as slaves. Every new invader made (often literally) his hills of Hindus skulls. Thus, the conquest of Afghanistan in the year 1000 was followed by the annihilation of the Hindu population; the region is still called the Hindu Kush, i.e. Hindu slaughter. The Bahmani sultans (1347-1480) in central India made it a rule to kill 100,000 captives in a single day, and many more on other occasions. The conquest of the Vijayanagar empire in 1564 left the capital plus large areas of Karnataka depopulated. And so on.
According to some calculations, the Indian (subcontinent) population decreased by 80 million between 1000 (conquest of Afghanistan) and 1525 (end of Delhi Sultanate).
Well, that’s 80,000,000 just in the Indian subcontinent (and most non-muslim scholars agree with him). Now add that to Islamic conquests from Spain to the Balkans, from 650 A.D. to the present day.
I therefore have no source to give you (today) for the (approx) 275 million victims claim. However, I assure you, I have read it on many occassions from various authorities – and, well, believe it.

You like the Prius? Try not to get too emotional.
The Toyota Prius has become the flagship car for those in our society so environmentally conscious that they are willing to spend a premium to show the world how much they care.
Unfortunately for them, their ultimate green car is the source of some of the worst pollution in North America; it takes more combined energy per Prius to produce than a Hummer. Before we delve into the seedy underworld of hybrids, you must first understand how a hybrid works. For this, we will use the most popular hybrid on the market, the Toyota Prius.
The Prius is powered by not one, but two engines: a standard 76 horsepower, 1.5-liter gas engine found in most cars today and a battery- powered engine that deals out 67 horsepower and a whooping 295ft/lbs of torque, below 2000 revolutions per minute. Essentially, the Toyota Synergy Drive system, as it is so called, propels the car from a dead stop to up to 30mph. This is where the largest percent of gas is consumed. As any physics major can tell you, it takes more energy to get an object moving than to keep it moving. The battery is recharged through the braking system, as well as when the gasoline engine takes over anywhere north of 30mph. It seems like a great energy efficient and environmentally sound car, right?
You would be right if you went by the old government EPA estimates, which netted the Prius an incredible 60 miles per gallon in the city and 51 miles per gallon on the highway. Unfortunately for Toyota, the government realized how unrealistic their EPA tests were, which consisted of highway speeds limited to 55mph and acceleration of only 3.3 mph per second. The new tests which affect all 2008 models give a much more realistic rating with highway speeds of 80mph and acceleration of 8mph per second. This has dropped the Priuss EPA down by 25 percent to an average of 45mpg. This now puts the Toyota within spitting distance of cars like the Chevy Aveo, which costs less then half what the Prius costs.
However, if that was the only issue with the Prius, I wouldnt be writing this article. It gets much worse. . . .

Irwin: That’s the worst response to a question I’ve ever seen in my entire life.
Thanks DrD, for pointing out that article. For those who don’t want to bother using the Telegraph‘s search engine, a direct link to it is here.
TG –
That Prius/Hummer thing has been debunked so many times already, here and other blogs.
My mom is one day younger than the Queen, and she always gets a kick out of this, but she certainly wouldn’t get a kick out of having her picture taken at her age. I feel badly for the Queen, and I am not a fan of that picture of her in a black robe against a gloomy, dark scene. What ever happened to good lighting and touch-ups….she is the Queen after all.

Iraq’s UN ambassador living in $22,000/month apartment in NYC
IRAQ’S ambassador to the United Nations, Hamid al Bayati, likes the high life. Bayati, who’s been on the job for just over a year, is said to be living in a $22,000-a-month apartment at Trump World Tower on First Avenue. He’s renting while the Iraqi U.N. Mission and official ambassador’s residence on East 79th Street undergo a $40 million renovation. Where did the Iraqis get the cash? Newsmax.com reports the U.N. Security Council is paying with funds it once used to finance the now-terminated U.N. Iraq arms inspectors. When asked about the lavish use of the cash, Bayati refused comment. U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Zalmay Khalilzad shrugged off the Iraqis’ lush lifestyle by telling reporters, “$40 million is not a lot of money.” According to U.N. documents, the U.S. delegation approved the transfer of the cash from the Security Council to Iraq. All of this comes as the federal Government Accounting Office reported the war in Iraq is costing American taxpayers $12 billion monthly.

VanIslander,
I am so in the dark about these things. Could you explain just what you mean there.
And are you a Prius owner, or hope to be? = TG
Irwin Daisy Following up on what you said: What I find amazing is the selective blindness evident in those who most think themselves tolerant educated and enlightened. For some reason they can not understand that foundational philosophy is reason enough to commit evil deeds. As shown time and time again transplanting Islam into a native society produces the dictatorships we see through out the Middle East. If you transplant Catholic Christianity into that same native culture the result is what you see in Europe, South America and to an extent Canada. If you transplant Evangelical Christianity into that native culture you get cultures like the US and to an extent Canada and England.
The Muslim understands by his faith system that those in authority are there by Allah’s will and are not to be questioned and that he must earn Allah’s favour by doing heroic deeds to advance Islam.
The Catholic understands that he must submit to his superiors in matters of the faith and by extension to the ruling elite who are by their very position are above the Catholic’s place.
The Evangelical Christian believes that he is a member of the Royal Priesthood and has the authority to enter into the Most Holy Place himself. He is much less likely to take a belief at face value and much more likely to question it. He is less likely to accept his “station in life” and will seek to improve it. He is more likely to believe in democracy as a way to govern his society and less likely to accept a monarch or a dictator.
As a secular western society what we need to do is increase our own birthrate so that we are not dependent on immigration. We can then be more selective on who we accept as immigrants.
At the same time we have to realize all philosophies are not the same and we need to be aware that some who practice their religion are in fact working to destroy the society we have accepted as normal and free.
Lone gunman vs conspiracy theory?
“In the minds of liberals, then, Kennedy’s killer should have been a right-wing fanatic. But he wasn’t. Oswald was a man of the hard left.”*
Is/are the killer(s) of environmental angel, Glen Davis, from within the enviro-wacko/hard left crowd?
If not, all is OK. If so, then what will the left-enviro wackos say/do?
Stay tuned on this story.

Reeling environmentalists wonder if politics played role in killing of benefactor
By DENNIS BUECKERT (CP)

His death and the previous attack have his friends in the environmental movement asking an unnerving question: could Davis been targeted because of his conservation work?
“That’s the question that we’re all agonizing over,” said Bruno Marcocchio, Atlantic Canada campaigner for the Sierra Club. “Of course I want the answer to be no.” …-

*Camelot and the Cultural Revolution (American liberals took leave of reason after JFK’s murder)
“Inherit the Wind” is running on Broadway again, night after night pitting the righteously rational Clarence Darrow against the Bible-thumping antievolutionist William Jennings Bryan. The 1955 play–a chestnut of high-school English courses across the country–concerns the Scopes “Monkey Trial” of 1925 and is meant to capture the moment in American history when science and reason superseded, at last, the myth and superstition of foolish reactionaries. It has become something of a liberal sacrament. But as James Piereson shows in “Camelot and the Cultural Revolution,” myth and superstition were the essence of the liberal response to John F. Kennedy’s assassination in November 1963. It was the liberals who threw evidence and reason to the winds, inheriting the crippling effects of their own bad judgment. Mr. Piereson is not concerned with showing yet again that, yes–in defiance of all conspiracy theories–Lee Harvey Oswald was the lone gunman on that fateful day. “Camelot and the Cultural Revolution,” Mr. Piereson explains, is less about “the assassination itself than the political reaction to it and the lasting consequences of that reaction.” It is one of the best accounts we have of why liberalism–which “owned the future” in 1963–fell from grace and has yet to recover….-
