Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Odd – in Edmonton the fans just keep singing…
I caught that clip on some sports show. What I found most interesting was the reaction of the Team Canada players..empathy….even anger at the crowd rejoicing in this gals public foible.
Then maybe that says something about us as a people. Those of us that fight for every inch of ice are capable of empathy…those of us who decry the injustice of funding cuts to the likes of SOW are only capable of sympathy.
I-Thou
Empathy…I can understand what you feel…
Sympathy….I feel sorry for what you feel..Let me fix it because I know better.

Sympathy…in the dictionary right between s**t and syphillus…tell ya something?
You want universal human values? You need look no further than the universal human appreciation of the classic slapstick pratfall. Why? Well, because of our pre-frontal cortex, of course, which happens to not only be pre-frontal, it’s also pre-cultural. It’s like freak shows. They go back to the dawn of man. Welcome to the species. Oh, wait a sec, gotta go, I’ve got a call on the amygdala courtesy telephone.
there’s no excuse – as a pro/semi pro singer – for screwing up a national anthem. Period.
I think the players’ concern was for her welfare after crashing – falling on ice can hurt you bad, and her embarrassment made her hesitate getting up.
Nah – you ain’t worthy to sing in public, and you should be booed out of the rink if you don’t know the words.
Forgetting the American anthem in that manner is a disgrace…
Quick now…somebody tell me the 2nd verse to Canada’s national anthem. And no…anybody over 30 can’t submit the answer, and no google.
“Oh Canada
Glorious and free
We stand on guard
For right and liberty”
The Roger Doucet version, better then the original. Maybe we don’t stand on guard for right and liberty.
“Oh Canada
Where pines and maples grow
Great Prairies spread
And lordly rivers flow
How dear to us
Thy broad domain
From East to Western Sea
And stand on guard
Oh Canada
We stand on guard for thee.”
Hey not bad for an old guy who finished school in 1965. Strictly from memory.
Yeah, I am slightly over thirty, just wanted to see how much I remembered.
Forgetting the American anthem in that manner is a disgrace…
has anyone ever heard bush speak????
maybe those who choose to judge should consider the “WHY” one may forget
I am sure she knew the words before she stepped out on the ice
Forget Bush, ever hear Hillary sing ?????

I wish we had a better national anthem.
