  1. Mann, and the UN, have stated, wrongly, that the 1990s were the warmest decade of the last 1000 years. That is wrong.
And even if it was right, to use only a 1000 years as a reference to a planet’s temperature history when said planet is 4 or 5 billion years old, is not valid.
I do not ever remember Mann, the UN or the media saying that only half the planet is warming, therefore the average may be no-change. The fear mongering always uses the terms ‘global’ warming. The planet is cooking. The poles(both) are melting.

  2. ron in kelowna: I can’t really tell from your post so just for clarification, do you think that either Mann or the IPCC thinks that it is warmer now than at any time in the past 4 billion years. A simple yes or no would do.
In regards to using a temperature record of 1000, it is a good indicator for curent times. Keep in mind we are only trying to look 100 years into the future so a record of 10 times this is a good place to start.
I believe that if you review Dr. Mann’s statements, it was always clear in context that his 1000 record looked at the Northern Hemisphere. Of course that was somewhat sneaky of him to hid that fact in the title of his paper. In regards to the media, I agree that they do not do a good job of reporting on global warming but I suspect that our reasons for agreeing are not the same.
