Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

A true patriot.
Time to uncork the Tontine…
This young man looks so capable!
He and his caliber of men make me proud to be the descendant of Canadian volunteer soldiers.
Many countries had young heroes back then.
I’m not sure I understand your comment, Aaron. Could you clarify?
Thank you Percy “Dwight” Wilson.
Too young to be in his battalion then and now he rejoins them to be it’s oldest member….
My best salute to you sir! And thank you!
A true patriot from a different time. If only more people like him existed in todays world.
and to the weary – rest.
thanks Dwight Wilson , you have done your duty.
One of my sisters met Mr Wilson at Sunnybrook a couple of months ago. She said he was very interesting to listen to & sharp as a tack.
Godspeed.
Godspeed indeed, Brother Wilson. By your acts may many men know you.
The WWII vets are disappearing on us too. My husband’s Vietnam crowd, well, the waistlines and hairlines have shifted.
Let me just repeat George Orwell:
“We sleep safe in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm.”
Truer words were never spoken. Shallow narcissist lefties, whose most insufferable horror is a price hike at Starbucks, never get that.
Salute!!
A number of years ago I visited Ypres and Vimy ridge and quite a few war cemetaries in between. The sheer magnitude of World War I is something that my generation will never understand. How a little country(in population only of course) like Canada could have fielded an army of 600 000 men in those times is a testament to Men like Dwight Wilson. When you walk through the World War I cemetaries its notable how many headstones read “a soldier of the great war known only unto God” These were men of courage I hope we never have to know.
Rest easy Dwight Wilson.
I have never been overseas to visit the war cemetaries. I wonder if bringing home our dead from Afghanistan has a double detrimental effect. In Europe and elsewhere, when they see the rows of crosses of foreign soldiers who died destroying tyranny, the citizens have a powerful visible reminder of what cost freedom exacts. Likewise the many Canadian families who left their loved one’s remains in foreign lands knew the self same cost. Now we extracate the remains and fly them back to Canada so the press have have a pseudo solemn news clip. Just some thoughts.
Rest eternal grant unto Percy Dwight Wilson, O Lord;
And may light perpetual shine upon him.
Amen.
God bless him and his family.
*
So gung-ho he enlisted twice… and contrary to the argle-bargle
in the Globe… it took me all of 30 seconds to find both sets of
attestment papers online.
*
may God bless his soul and all soldiers past and present
um and all our soldiers…
Hero!
Not much else I can add; my grandfather went over there too.
60,000 Canadian boys and men die out of a population of – what? – 10 million? – in four years, and the country supports the war and the mission. Today, we lose 54 men and women out of a population of 33 million in six years, and all the lefties are in tears, and demanding we come home.
I don’t mean to devalue any one of the soldiers who lost his or her life – bless them all – but in terms of personal safety, this has to be the cleanest, safest war Canada has ever participated in.
Godspeed.
HE,S THE BOOGIE WOOGIE BUGLE BOY OF COMPANY B
And at the going down of the Sun, We Will Remember Them.
Rest In Peace
My grandfather went over as an underaged “runner” he was 15 but went over as a Brit. Having being wounded by an expanding bullet and sent back to England, he was rewarded 6 pence a week for compensation of losing the use of his right arm and being gassed. He left for Canada – for ever POed at Britain. He regained use of his arm working for the CPR. When the second war came, he rejoined , lying about his age again and went back over ( overaged) to save Britain again.
you can take the boy out of the country but you cant take the country out of the boy. landing on the day after D-day and going in with the Royal Engineers. He lasted to age 66 .
they were made of stronger stuff.
Lest we forget.
