Let us bask in the absurd magnificence of Dalton McGuinty’s latest argument against selling beer and wine – just wine and microbrews produced in-province, mind you – in Ontario convenience stores. He says, no word of a lie, that because some convenience store owners have been known to steal lottery tickets from unsuspecting punters, they can’t be entrusted with alcohol.

Sounds like more Liberal socialist philosophy about how Canadians, Ontarians are unable to make decisions for ourselves. The great State must make all critical decisions for us. I’ve been hoping for beer and wine in corner stores for 30 years and I don’t think I’ll get to see it in my lifetime.
Vote the bugger out of office.
Where ? Warren Kinsella.
McGuinty, isn’t he the one who caved in to the criminals at Caledonia and suspended the rule of law?
Dolton McLiar is a nasty, ignorant SOB who has nothing but contempt for ordinary people in Ontario, we’re just peons in the rarified air of Dolton’s realm.
And I thought ours is a dud.
More specifically Calvert
See this idiot as he truly is …The Dangerous Dolt
Has anyone ever actually heard a word or seen a pic of John Tory? I couldn’t pick him out of a two-suit lineup.
I remember when Petersen proposed beer in corner stores…..probably won him the election and then he backed down.
There is significant opposition to this in Ontario and significant support. It just comes down to one side cares a lot more, the opposers. The supporters can still get their beer and wine the normal way. Hours have been expanded, more stores and nicer stores….It is harder to justify versus the old days.
Personally….I would rather you be allowed to buy it at resaraunt or bar…where their whole business depends on a liquor license…..
Corner stores…I dont oppose it and it isnt a burning issue to support.
I suspect Mr M is looking at how much revenue the Lcbo and Beer store conribute to the coffers. Also prevents a galvanizing issue from emerging on the right side of the political spectrum.
LCBO – Liquor Control Board of Ontario
when you collect taxes on the sale of beer, wine and spirits plus get the added bonus of profits from allowing sales in only state run stores, this is money a liberal would find hard to give up.
The government will collect its taxes on beer and wine sales regardless of who sells the stuff, they do on ciggys and everything else subject to sales tax. As for forgoing profits, it’s not the role of government to be in profit making businesses in the first place.
No, it’s about the unions. These are some of the cushiest, best paying low skill jobs a person in Ontario can ever hope to get.

“No, it’s about the unions. These are some of the cushiest, best paying low skill jobs a person in Ontario can ever hope to get.”
Yes and yes.
With the LCBO, the Ontario government gets to have it both ways: they make a direct profit from the sale of alcohol while also retaining the provincial sales tax revenue as well. Not only that, but they also control the rate of provincial sales tax!
Sweet!
Any capitalist worthy of the name would love a monopoly deal like that.
The unions are doing much the same: they’re protecting their own monopoly situation as well.
There is absolutely NO incentive here for the Ontario government to tinker with this situation.
“McGuinty, isn’t he the one who caved in to the criminals at Caledonia and suspended the rule of law?”
He’s the one who caved to the TERRORIST Natives at Caledonia and suspended the rule of law.
Hello from Northern Ontario. McGuinty doesn’t have a clue what goes on in our ‘hood. We’ve been buying booze from our convenience stores for years. Proof again that the McSquinty thinks Tranna is the COTU. And why are retailers being blamed for all the ‘stealing’ of ‘tickets’? Haven’t some of McLiar’s middle people in the OLG been implicated? He learns denial and cover-up from his heroes at the federal level.
Dildo McGoonty is the one who broke every election promise he made to get elected for starters.
As for the Caledonia standoff, he caved in to the Natives alright, emphasizing what most of us know, the Natives have no respect for our rule of law and ignore it. McGoonty has no respect for it either to allow such thuggery to win out.
The connection he’s placing with corner store beer and wine sales with Lotto fraud artists is an insult to our intelligence.
Yes, he is quite a piece of work, we’re so unlucky to have him.
funny how Dalton wouldnt say the same thing about the liberals after they got their hooks into the federal treasury last time. I think there is still a hundred million stolen bucks unaccounted for.
One thing is McSquinty is right about: the retailers cannot be trusted with verification of age. They do sell tobacco to the under-19, I am a witness and it’s obvious if you walk around any high and even many middle schools during a recess or after the classes. Every-bloody-body is smokin’, many smoke pot which is somewhat relevant – they still need tobacco for a joint. This is already out of hand with all checks and balances.
Aaron… these kids have $upplier$. Laws don’t change the human heart.
Daltoon McLiar knew that only crack smoking stupid clowns would believe him when he said “I will not raise taxes.”
So he volunteered to sign, what he said, was a legally binding contract guaranteeing he would’nt raise taxes.
Good enough for the sheeple.
Two months later Ontario’s largest tax increase EVER!
Nobody has seen the guy in public since.
I can say with authority that the majority of those “under-age smokers” are purchasing those ciggys out of the back of a van, being middled through organized crime….the real sin here is chimpy mcliar will not lift a finger to stop the contraband/native smoke problem….and for convenience stores selling booze…I have a few customers who do sell booze out of their stores…the margins are small, and the problems are large….just another way the convenience store is a revenue collection agency for the govt
“Where’s This McGuinty Fellow Getting His Advice These Days?”
The inside poop has it that after Kinsella stopped talking to him Dolton secured the services of the Easter Bunny as a policy and PR manager.
It shows 😉
…you make the bed you sleep in Ontario.
I understood that the Ontario Beer stores were owned/controlled by the major breweries and that they would not want other distribution options (and therefore influencing the Government to keep the status quo).
…and where is this line drawn(for the ststaus quo) for Dalton’s Ontario and Northern Ontario?
The majority of Ontarians don’t live within walking distance to a Beer or Liquor store and are therefore forced to drive, sometimes into the next town, in order to make their purchases.
This makes McGuinty’s Liberals responsible for large amounts of carbon dioxide being needlessly released into the atmosphere.
da prince, bingo you got it.
What is surprising is the surprise of people that socialists will control you. They will, with the sweet sound of Sirens.
Mcguinty & his HypoGrits continue to amaze me
Health Promotions Minister Jim Watson ” I don’t believe we should be spending tax dollars to build smoking lounges”
this is in reference to the on going battle Nursing Long care Facilities are arguing that these have become seniors Homes, So you are forcing the Seniors out into the cold to have a smoke(One Senior died in Jan.after being out in the cold have a smoke, the family is taking legal action)
Now for the Catch: the mcguinty liberals spent $$$$$Millions to build outdoor Heated Smoking facilities at there Many Ca****s’s(the dreaded filter)
In the smaller communities & in northern areas Convience stores can apply for booze tickets, so that they don’t have to drive to larger to purchase.
vf… are you too busy to do a bit of investigation, as I did? I am a parent, and I wanted to know so that I do know now – they buy smokes THEMSELVES. Thousands of kids can’t all have so many suppliers, it just does not float. If you want to have real picture, not just your thoughts, hang around the places that sell tobacco and watch. You will quickly realize, that the teens frequent the place, buy this and that: water, lighters, pizza, than they quietly tell the attendant that they want a pack of smokes, and as long as the attendants know that the kid is really a kid and not an undercover investigator, they will sell them a pack and never ask for a proof of age. It says that they need a proof of age if there is a doubt, but the law does not say that the attendant has to have any doubt – he does not, so no question asked.
vf: you believe that if there is a law, than it is followed, don’t you? That’s why Canadian society is so prone to infiltration by imported crime.
Saddest thing is, that he’ll probably win the next election anyway…
JCL
“….The government will collect its taxes on beer and wine sales regardless of who sells the stuff….”
If the business owner operates his business as an all cash business the government knows there’s a good chance they’ll never be able to collect a percentage of those taxes.
Tomax, I could not have said it better! McGuinty is such a looser. Where has he been in protecting the Charter Rights of the people of Caledonia????? Where has he been the RULE OF LAW?????
Dalton’s comments are even worse than you realize.
Look at the ethnic background of many/most of the convenience store owners in Ontario.
He called them thieves.
Dalton, can I introduce you to Mr. Imus?
Reality is that LCBO and Brewers Retail employees enjoy very well paid Union jobs. Competition is not welcome. Dalton knows that reality, but instead he offers up this racist excuse.
this keeps getting better and better….so a public health authority, who is caught smack dab in the middle of the contraband smoke crisis, had determined that the illegal ciggy’s have even more poison than the legal ones…..and a good chunk of that product is going to children, sold by organized crime…..so, dalton mcf#$%face, useless lying librano that he is, will not lift a finger…..the OPP just stand by, and allow our children to be poisoned by these scumbags….I cannot believe that this is happening in Canada….does not one politico have the nuts to stand up to these criminals?
sorry
forgot
his name was Premier Harris
aaron…yes I realize there is a law…you re-inforced my point saying that there are those who work outside the law to provide illegal stuff for the kids.I have no time to sit and watch retailers…lot’s of time to listen to the kids stories and adults about how easy it is to get the stuff.
Yeah for Premier Harris…hoping for a comeback kingstonlad!
No, Kingstonlad, they are busy shooting mentally ill in the chest:

In Manitoba you cvan buy it in a corner store if you don’t live in Winnipeg.
The government can only loose so much money with the cushy jobs.
McAsswipe is a dictatorial fascist, and a liar, but I don’t care about this. I live 2KM from the nearest beer store in Queerbec.
Well, you folks in Ontario may not love McGuinty, but, rest assured, we in the rest of Canada do!
He makes our premiers, no matter how bad, look good in comparison.
Maybe they should introduce the concept of “none of the above” on your ballots.
Having first purchased (legally) booze in Ontario back in the good old days when you walked into this room with a half dozen counters where you wrote down a number corresponding to the brand & size you wanted and had to hand it to the gentleman behind the counter who gave it to an order picker who went back into the warehouse while a half dozen other employees in white shirts and bow ties stood around with their hands behind their back and another took your money, I must say convenience has improved a lot but stopping corner stores is stupid.
BTW Does the former get an award for the longest sentence? 😉 I know it was drawn out but then so was the process and if you wanted beer you had to do it all over at a different place.
If Liar McUseless wants some good advice, he should read this before he bans incandescent lightbulbs in Onterrible.
All these 70 year + smokers. Should’nt they have been dead a long time ago since smoking is so harmful ?? Perhaps they should put posters in all senior homes stating “If smoking did’nt kill you,The Ontario government will”
The people of Ontario have until October to get their act together and get rid of these bozos headed by Dildo McGoonty.
“Dim Witson”, Minister of something concocted to give him a job called “Health Promotions”, has been doing one stupid thing after another. Just like all Liberals, they know absolutely what’s best for us, legislating how to live our lives from cradle to grave.
They’re cruising to a huge ass-kicking. We will remember all McGoonty’s broken promises, that would be every one he made.
