The picture of the British soldiers liberated by Iran is everywhere.
But if you compare these two front pages, you will see what happens when design prevails over news.
Here’s a hint: read the headline. Then, count the people.

And here’s a question I don’t have the answer to – did this one make the front page of any Canadian newspapers?

Check out the full story.
Now that the details of their capture and detention is being told, the “crop to happy” editing by western media is just all the more detestable.

Disgusting. Truly disgusting. Especially from a BRITISH paper!
…dunno, but I’m looking hard for signals from the young Brits this is a forced photo op.
We were taught in the military if captured and doing a propaganda stance, to do something with our fingers, hands or look one direction as a sign.
Remember the famous Hillary Clinton picture with the solider? Look at his fingers. X.
Here it is:

The sailors and marines desrcibed the whole thing as a “media stunt”; must be that the Iranians beleive that the MSM is on their side!
When will the media be charged with treason ??
The sailors themselves desribed the captivity as an ordeal.
And some media still try to whitewash it. And shed a more favourable light on Iran. Pathetic.
The Iran “gov’t” will show their propaganda to the Iranian people. (Nice-Iran) The Iranian on the street will also see a British newspaper front page photo (crop). Got to be true then, tis what the Brits also “say”.
When is our media going to pick up this interview and splash it on T V and newspaper headlines?I’m holding my breath.
From here in London (UK), let me add just two personal observations:
1. It’s interesting that the Daily Telegraph – a right-of-centre newspaper – did the cropping and the Guardian – a left-of-centre paper – chose to reveal the whole shot.
2. It’s good that the 15 RN/RM personnel are home for Easter but, make no mistake, this has been a public relations victory for Iran and a humiliation for the UK. Not good news.
yes kate I think you have it! all western media HATE freedom and WANT Iran to be victorious over us militarily – all western media is on the side of the Iranians … you are truly unbelievable. get some help.
Remember the sailors from the USS Pueblo that were captured by the NORKS some years ago? They posed for a picture and it was printed in Time magazine. They all had their middle-fingers upright to send a message to their folks back home that all they had experienced and what they had said was was Bull#hit.
Then TIME and the rest of the MSM proceeded to tell the world what that meant.
Those sailors paid a heavy price for that when the NORKS found out.
Give these people a break!
To spike 1 – I’m NOT holding my breath.
To Ratfuc – TIME and the rest of the MSM should have been horsewhipped, and then sued for damages by the sailors.
The Leader Post ran the second shot down from the top on Thursday April 5th…if that helps.
…ahhh I read the post a little too quickly before making my first comment.
The Leader did run the 2nd pic down, but cropped it on the sides, cutting out some of the “hostages”. My bad.
Most papers could use a little design over news, especially the local ones. A cover picture is meant to grab the reader, then fill them in on the rest after the buy it…Unfortunately, most of the time around here, covers live in the land of the “grey zone” never sure what they exactly are trying to do. One or the other, Dammit!
what uncivilized barbarians! i can’t believe the iranians would totally violate the geneva conventions and show footage of the captives. if that isn’t the measure of pure tyrannical evilness than i don’t know what is. what’s that you say, geneva conventions are “quaint” and we can torture people with impunity…yes, we truly are civilized 😉
Ron in Kelowna says: “When will the media be charged with treason ??”
Maybe with stupidity?
Oops,not a crime.
So, Amandmanjihad got his domestic 15 minutes again. As for the media, I don’t think they really give a hoot. After all, these are just people with guns (pointed at them). Why they let this guy treat them as props is beyond me.
I hope GB follows through on my advice. Some kind of economic spanking is in short order, perhaps seizing a ship or six. I guess we’ll have to put off the airstrike on their nuclear facilities for now. Hillary will probably end up having to do it.
Western media was on the side of the USSR,the North Vietnames,Sadam Hussain, and is on the side of the Iranians, the Chinese, anybody but G.W.Bush and his allies even tho they would be the first to be shut down if any of them got in power. If you dont believe me,watch Putin,a former KGB head.
Whatever!!! I just hope the US has not put away the missile they had scheduled for a final suppository to cure Mahmoud’s anal problem.
If they don’t get him soon his own people will lynch him and rob us of the satisfaction of being part of his demise.
I’m with retired Army Col. Jack Jacobs on this(link below). It was a dishonorable performance by the Brits, now working overtime to sanitize it. We are not going to win the WOT with behavior like this, not against zealots willing to strap on suicide belts to kill us.

Here’s the John Stuart Mill quote he uses:
War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.
OH. MY. GOD.
PEOPLE. ARE. CROPPING. PHOTOS.
MUST. BE. A. LEFT. WING. CONSPIRACY.
God you people are dorks.
One period per sentence dummy.
Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you war’n peace.
War’n is the type of troll known as “The Literalist.” The Literalist tries to remove context from arguments in order to deflect criticisms he/she cannot counter effectively.
In this case, war’n wants to make this an editorial decision instead of a conscious decision to alter a story through editing. War’n doesn’t want you to ask yourself if this story would have been reported the same way 25 years ago, and he certainly doesn’t want you to ask why the media insists on showing Iranian kidnappers in a positive light.
In this case and as in most things in war’n’s life, he/she fails miserably. Poor war’n… The Literalist isn’t your bag. You can always come back as The Drive-By Smearer, The Ad-Hominen Assassin, The Fake Statistician or my personal favorite, The Bat-**** Crazy Guy.
Now that the soldiers are safe, I wonder when the story of what really happened will come out.
“The Ad-Hominen Assassin”
My personal favorite Yukon.
Just wish I could have spelled it correctly, multi. 🙂
Iran appears to have great support in our Leftist dominated Media.
Where’s the call for UN sanctions to be stepped up, like cutting their gasoline supplies?
Where’s the call for flunkie Amadiddydoo and his spiritual leaders to be reprimanded under the Geneva convention?
Putting on the nice-guy hats and returning captives they had no right to take in the first place.
Expect more diversionary capers as they move along to their goal of nuclear capability while we sit and watch in Leftist stupor.
Gift, my foot. And Tony Blair fell for the Iranian rhetoric?
Well, wait. He touted the “gift” the Iranians were giving the British people before the sailors were released, right? But they’re home now, they’ve been freed from their forced and violent abduction, so why doesn’t Tony name it for what it really is: An illegal kidnapping, an international scandal?
Now, the Iranians are asking for “a favour” from the Brits, seeing as they, apparently, did the British “a “favour by returning the 15 British sailors they forcibly and illegally detained.
EXCUSE ME?
Where are/Who are our 300?
Post Script: On the 7:00 a.m. CBC news, I heard an item about the Iranians asking the British government for a return favour (sic and sick), something about their nuclear program. I’ve gone to the CBC Web site and can’t find any mention of it…hmmm. I thought the CBC’s mandate was to tell all of the news all of the time. ‘Must have got them mixed up with some other news organization.
I think that the truth will never fully come out because from all appearances it was the Royal Marine’s decision not to fight the Iranian attackers and “cause an international incident” which directed the marine personel to surrender.
That tells me they were briefed with some form of politically infected rules of engagement which put them in harm’s way with orders not to defend themselves in certain situations.
ROI comes from the Brass and war ministry and ultimately 10 Downing…don’t expect Balir to take responsibility for military disasters, he hasn’t yet…he’s blamed everything from domestic terrorism to underfunding…but never taken blame for strategic failings where his politics has intervened in a military engagement….I can see how Labor-friendly media will play this incident down….and of course the moonbat socialist papers in the UK will always hug-a-thug.
I see this as more of a matter of the media following the prevailing political trends rather than exposing them.
C’mon folks, some photos were cropped. At least this didn’t happen
– act of war by Iran against GB
– Speaker of US House has meeting with enemies of West
– Brit prisoners tortured, harrassed and threatened
– no idiots running around saying Bush planed 9/11
No wait, these did happen. Must be a vast right wing conspiracy.
I have a couple of questions
Why was the helicopter directed back to the ship, thereby reducing eyes and ears capability?
How come the Iranians in the neighbourhood were not picked up on radar?
If they were picked up on radar wouldn’t that many craft look pretty darned ominous?
How far did the Iranians have to come to capture the Brits?
Where did the Iranians buy those suits for the returnees?
I wondered where they got the suits, too, ian.

Bingo! And, with apologies for repeating a comment on another thread, Blair a) keeps a Koran by his bedside b) has breathlessly claimed that Islam is a “very progressive religion” and c) has a jihadophilic wife, er, partner who defends school jihadism.
The soldiers are a total and utter disgrace due to obviously disgraceful training. The video at LGF sickened me.
Didn’t I read somewhere that the Brits like to sip tea with the Taliban in Afghanistan (?) engaging “hearts and minds”.
Labour is killing Great (sic) Britain.
I wondered where they got the suits, too, ian.
A better question is who is wearing their old uniforms now? Obviously there is a reason they weren’t returned with them.
A bunch of 100% genuine Brit uniforms can be put to a lot of mischief.
