Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

I’ve been on glorious holidays in warm places this last 5 weeks and I’m reminded of the saying,” same crap different day”, when it comes to catching up on media garbage.
In the real world, winning for the day is much more important to the creppy media than the welfare of our children and grandchildren.
To watch the media giants destroy our future is disgusting.
The MSM mouths utopian platitudes and delivers partisan or counter productive journalism.
We all have to realize in the traditional ideal political climate of parliamentary democracy ( and the US system is based on this as well) the credo of the system is that it is CINFRONTATIONAL.
This means debate becomes heated but the outcome is dialectic. The media has a role in presenting the argument made in the confrontaional political public forms to the citizenry…they have even been recognized for this duty by being deemed a “4th estate” of society.
I think where the modern media has strayed from their traditional roll as insighters and reporters of the confrontational political process from one of observer to participant.
These mooks talk like they must take up the torch for the minority because they feel it is not doing a sufficient “bashing” of the government.
Similarly in Canada we saw the same attitude from the Ottawa MSM when they had their snit over Harper’s press rules and many expressed their roll as being a defacto government opposition.
Modern confrontational political realities are so Byzantine the last thing we need is the media installing itself as one of the combatants.
Please report and stop participating in the parliamentary system.
The last week’s performance of the partisan Canadian MSM has made me realize they no longer serve a infroming role, they serve as extentions of political parties/agendas/movements and as such are part of the problem.
“Thomas also believed this ‘mainstream’ media would be worth ‘maybe 15 points’ to John Kerry in 2004, which didn’t exactly work out”
I beg to differ. I think it’s entirely possible that the MSM did deliver their 15 points to Kerry; he just couldn’t deliver the other 36.
Speaking of fair and balanced, just the other day I complained to AM 640 about a news item they had in which 5 seconds of PM Stephen Harper was followed by 30 seconds of rebuttal by some university professor.
I asked if it was their normal habit to rebut the PM, if it was regular procedure to present opinion as news, if they hired just anyone to do so (I suggested they do given that they picked a prof), and if I could be hired to do rebutting.
I got back a “we’re being fair and balanced” reply, which is a bunch of baloney.
Bang on Matt. Just like CBC radio, or Pravda as I call it. They’ll typically have a ‘report’ (propaganda) which is basically Democrats bashing Bush. Then in the interest of fairness, they’ll have some ‘Republicans’ bashing Bush. How do we know they’re Republicans? Because Pravda told us so.
Yes, tom. I recall Anna Maria Tremonti going on last week about the Conservative “attack” ads, suggesting that they were “vicious personal attacks”, although never actually explaining how one might draw that conclusion. It occurred to me that nothing in those ads even approached the level of “vicious personal attack” that characterize every single report from CBC’s “Washington correspondent”, Michael Coulton. Listen carefully to Coulton’s reports; the first phrase that comes to mind is: “Little bitch.”
A digression, but I’m sure Kate will be opening a thread shortly for the news of Garth joing the Liberals.
Lots of interesting comments on his blog about what he thinks of Liberals.
Like this one…
http://www.garth.ca/weblog/page/2/?cat=6
Turner: “When Finance Minister Jim Flaherty stands in his place in the House of Commons next Tuesday afternoon at 4 pm and stares into a packed chamber, his budget speech words will waft a few feet across the green carpet, past the temporary leader of the opposition, and into the ears of Liberal finance critic John McCallum. It will be the first time in McCallum’s political career that he has ever listened to anything other than a Grit budget. I am sure it will kill him.”
I guess now he’ll have only GOOD THINGS to say about McCallum and others.
Hypocrite.

Fair and balanced?
CTV today reported on allegations against some Canadian soldiers for abusing captured Taliban many months ago.
Immediately after the news piece was aired, Steven Staples from the left wing Polaris institute (whatever that is) gave his slanted take on the allegations.
Somalia and the Airborne were immediately mixed into his narrative.
No other guest was then brought in for another perspective on the latest allegations.
Fair and balanced reporting?
Bullsh**!!
Bringing in the leftist angle simply reinforced a onesided view over an allegation by an unhappy taliban supporter.
CTV – All the news that’s fit to “torque.”

Joan,
I agree completely. Thirty years ago Dalton Camp -citing the fact that the candidate who lost the election had spent the most money- argued that campaign spending had no effect on elections.Naturally my letter to the editor explaining why he was wrong was never published.
Can you imagine whar % of the vote the CPC would receive if it received the same coverage from the MSM as the Liberals and NDP.
He NEEDS bashing! He is the WORST president in the history of the USA!
There were NO weapons of mass destruction! He LIED to the world.
He had NO knowledge of anything to do with Iraq – no concept of the difference between Shite and Sunni.
He thought flowers would be strewn in from of US troops (as did many readers here).
Tens of thousands of innocent citizens are dead because he is such a disaster.
Bash away!! Bush deserves it! Canadians who have stood by him and defended him are as bad as he is!!!
He should be IMPEACHED except them we would get someone even more dangerous then Bush is.
Well I watched ‘fair and balanced’ on CBC, Sunday before the football game. The subject, evil man is killing the planet. The first guest was none other than David Suzuki. Guess where he stood on the matter? Then to balance the report the second guest was the producer of Al Gores ridiculous movie An Inconvenient Truth. (Is he really going to win an Acadamy for that crap?) Balanced, I suppose, because she was even crazier than Suzuki. Have you ever heard this woman? In the middle of the interview… poof, her hair started on fire!! And the toughest question asked was…. Really?… Wow, like, how did it come to this?…
Actually yeah… it is the job of the media to “bash” the goverment, and not bend over. I find it far more disturbing that Ruppert Murdock actually said that he tried to support the agenda to go to war:
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/business/news/e3i96671211ab370128cc4b4c4eb880c08c
But of course, you guys don’t really get this whole “reality” thing.
