Party Of Convictions: Dion Pardons

From the You Can’t Make This Stuff Up Files;

Dion told Quebec newspaper Le Soleil that he has no objections to Marc-Yvan Cote being allowed to resume his Liberal membership.
Cote, a former party organizer in Quebec, was one of 10 members banned for life from the party by former prime minister Paul Martin in the wake of the sponsorship scandal.
Dion added that Cote’s punishment was “exaggerated,” and that he’d recognized his error and shouldn’t be penalized for life.
[…]
Dion noted that he thought that Cote “recognized his mistakes.”
Gerard Kennedy, Dion’s special adviser on election readiness, says each case will have to be decided on its own merits.
During the Gomery inquiry into the sponsorship scandal, Cote testified that he received $120,000 in $100 bills from the executive director of the party’s Quebec wing. He distributed that money to 12 Liberal candidates in the 1997 federal election.

Who would have guessed that a full year after Gomery and turning the page with selection of a new leader, the Liberals would pump new life into the Libranos blogging theme?
Has the Mole been promoted?

  1. And, unless I’ve missed something, the Ministry of Truth (a.k.a. CBC) have yet to mention this “come to Jesus” moment.
Any bets that they never will report it?
    Nah!

  2. And this the new, improved, not-related-to-the-liberal-party, party.
    Ha! I call your pants!

  3. Jose, don’t think of what the conservatives can do for the liberals, think of what the conservatives can do for Canada.

  4. Coupled with Dion’s admission that he doesn’t understand why the Liberals were voted out, it looks like he’s going to tank in the West after all. Maybe elsewhere too. No wonder the Cons. figure they can gamble with SK, and not give us the Equalization deal they promised…

  5. Taliban Jack is obviously a far better leader for the beebles of Kaybeque than this Powercore Chretinite turd. Same goes for the Trawna Lattes. Up with Taliban Jack.

  6. Kate
Now that you mention it Steffy does emit a rather moleish aura. The beady little eyes and pointy snout, not to mention the garbled thought/speech patterns that one would expect from a nocturnal creature that spends its life burrowing away in the rotting sub-strata.
Ahhh if only he was the infamous Mole. Sadly I think he is just what he appears to be. A no-sense, arrogant, socialist, Quebec academic who believes his own bullshit and above all views the reins of power as his birthright.
That said….the little pissant’s arrogance may prove to be his downfall. I look forward to further examples of his Librano “convictions”.
Carry on Steffy!!! You’re doing a hell of a job with that “renewal” thingy ya got going on.
    Idiot.

  7. 8:09 PM SK Time and I think everyone over at El Jazera North had their collective heads too far up Mr. Dion’s a** to hear what was said about Cote. Either that or they don’t see any problem with the taskmasters passing only around only 120K of taxpayers dollars and getting right back into the game.

  8. Dion stumbles over sponsorship file
    January 24, 2007
    Canadian Press
QUEBEC – The sponsorship scandal came back to haunt Liberals today after newly minted Leader Stephane Dion suggested at least one of the organizers disgraced by the affair should be welcomed back into the party…

  9. The Bonanno crime family in Montreal is composed primarily of zips — mafiosi who were made before they left Sicily.
North American-born mafiosi try to avoid antagonizing government authority. One of the reasons that John Gotti brought retribution down onto himself was because he broke all the old rules and openly flaunted his nefarious power in the fact of law enforcement. His ego and his arrogance caused his enemies in the FBI to work overtime to get enough on him to prosecute him.
The Montreal family are zips primarily from Italy. In Sicily the mafia has no qualms about killing cops. They regularly wipe out judges. They work very hard to make government authority subservient to their agenda. Fear and intimidation along with blackmail are regular features of their enterprise.
As I’ve said on many occasions, the Liberal Party demonstrated itself to be completely and thoroughly corrupted by knowingly appointing Alphonso Gagliano. When a government appoints such a person, it is a sign that organized crime has become such an integral factor that compromises have to be made to allow professional criminals into positions that they wish to do business in.
Sometimes you hear that the mob has been kicked out of Las Vegas or out of the Teamsters Union. But then surprise, surprise, you find that new revelations are forthcoming that show the mob is still very much engaged.
The Liberals are so entwined with the Montreal mob that the Bonannos can’t really be excluded from participation. It’s a pit of snakes where too many people have something on too many others.
Sexual indiscretions, gambling debts, favors for something taken care of quietly in the past.. etc.,etc. I doubt there is any way to actually get them out.
It is only natural that they will wish to re-position some of their people to carry out their desires. The Montreal mob was essentially geared up to be in the heroin business with the help of Carmine “The Snake” Galante. The movie starring Gene Hackman, called “The French Connection”, was about one phase of this heroin business.
So you can see there are a lot of operations that call for politicians to be bribed, politicians to be brought to subservience, so that the wise guys over at Frank’s can keep popping the champagne corks.

  10. Cote just need to submit his curriculum vitae, er I mean his “odium vitae” and he will be readmitted to the Party of Convicts.
Absolutely priceless; better than all the money they funnelled out through Adscam.!!

  11. So many questions, so few answers … What exactly does “banned from the Liberal Party for life” mean ? If PMPM (presumably on his own, without reference to any LPC Constitution?) banned Cote shouldn’t it be up to PMSD alone to reinstate him or not ? Is it up to the LPC President alone, or the LPC Executive by a vote, or how is Cote’s fate going to be determined ? SOMEONE in the LPC must know which Quebec ridings received a cut of the $120,000 in cash distributed by Cote. (I like Duceppe’s line on this … Mr. Dion is so fond of clarity, let him be clear on this [who got the money]). The MSM should just loooooove this kind of story as its got tons of conflict in it. At least we can count on the NDP/BLOC and CPC bouncing questions and answers off each other over this during Question Period.

  12. Hey, give Dion a break, the Librano’s are short on cash and an election is looming. They NEED Cote!

  13. Banned for life from the LPC is suspicously similar to jailed for life in Canada 🙁
Cote has served hard time now guys, he’s sorry ok?! so let’s all just have a great big ol’ group hug then we’ll kiss and make up okay? forget about all that icky stuff, y’know stealin and stuff, that’s all in the past now…

  14. I ….. I ….. the level of profound displacement from the real world that borat d shows is, in my experience, the largest gap of any federal leader since I started watching ottawa in the days of the pearson diefenbaker competition.
such ….. a …. complete separation from actuality and a continuing stream of nonsense to think THIS is all the lieberals could come up with.
I suspect more than a few are looking at this like the aftermath of some impulse las vegas wedding….. and wondering if there is an escape clause somewhere.
dion is, in my assessment, the single WORST federal party leader in canada since the late 50s.
    no redeeming qualities. none whatsoever.
a failing grade right from the start.

  15. In Cote’s defense, I’ve made a few “mistakes” myself. One that was quite a doozy, was the time I was had by the entire football team after homecoming. Boy, was my face red Monday morning in first hour, when it became obvious everybody knew about my little escapade. I laugh to think of it now, but at the time I was chagrined.

  16. Sammy:
I agree wholeheartedly. Traverse and Martin really put their hearts into trying to keep the rotting corpse in the prisitne coffin — mocking the Conservative Cabinet Ministers, no less.
Hell, the MSM has been downplaying the Liberal corruption since before the election.
I doubt that Quebec voters will let this pass. I mean, even the mere SUGGESTION of this retarded sort of thinking should have Duceppe, Da BLOQ and da PQ cranking all Quebec voters into a frenzy over this.
Conservative too, should be shining very bright lights on the scary man behind the curtain.

  17. Harper was right when he said the Liberal Party is rotten to the core. By logical extension, so are much of their lickspittle MSM propagandists, who ignore, excuse, make light and condone Librano corruption and incompetence.

  18. “Jose, don’t think of what the conservatives can do for the liberals, think of what the conservatives can do for Canada.”
Well I’m a leftie as you know but I’m not so partisan to admit that Harper has kept his nose clean. And really he’s not too right wing for me after all.
I still wouldn’t want to see him get a majority though. Politicians are like junkyard dogs, best kept on a short leash.

  19. ET said “That’s pure Chretien – and Chretien’s tactic was to pit regions against each other, and above all, to ‘win Quebec’ because of its 75 seats.”
And yet sadly, in three tries, Chretien never was able to win Quebec. The best he could manage was a tie with the Bloc in 2000. Even Marc-Yvan with his brown envelopes couldn’t help in 1997. Despite all the cash, eastern QC went Bloc bleu.
Chretien’s stronghold was Ontario. His image in Quebec essentially boiled down to the old adage, “How can we miss you if you won’t leave?” His chest-thumping Trudeauism didn’t play very well in the land where they knew he was the fellow who cut the cash for the best part of four decades. The money went rolling out but the same people were always the ones getting rich. It’s one of the reasons that Quebecers haven’t voted Liberal en-masse since 1980. But they ate it up in Ontario.
Of course Harper knows this. Dion might not know it yet, but he will surely learn. I’m just surprised so few people here seem to appreciate it.

  20. Despite the positive coverage Dion has been getting, the man is gaff prone and appears to Dither exactly like Dithers Martin dithered!
Suggesting Cote might be welcome back into the party shows lack of sound judgment.
Leadership is obviously lacking, add to that an ego with a very thin skin and you have the makings of a Liberal party in Kimmy Campbell territory by election time.
Unlike Harper, Dion needs committees to function in the role of leader.
I don’t believe even the leftist “Media Party” will be able to stomach advocating for the Libs at election time with Dion as leader.
Look for Libs to sink in the polls shortly.

  21. CBC is all over the rape charge of the Isralei PM or whatever he is. Still no Peter Rather on TV. I wonder if they think covering the rape will make this other story will go away. Anyone notice how testy Don Newman has been these last few days, cutting off guests, raising his voice, talking over guests etc. What is he worried about, couldn’t be his job could it. All those e-mails and phone calls to head honchos at the cbc has got to be having an effect on them. They haven’t clued in yet that every stmt by them or a guest is discected and the lies are spread around the net within minutes. Hows the lmotp doing for viewers, haven’t heard anything about it for 2 wks. Is it still on. Loved Duceppes line about clarity. Wonder if any of this will calm down the threatened daily attacks from MP Hammond when the House reconvenes. And Keith Boag had the audacity to say the conservatives still bring up Adscam, but it is old news. We need a report from the RCMP on goodale and scott and income trusts, and a list of all investigations into liberal wrongdoing. We taxpayers paid for it and deserve the report. At least they are leaving Khan alone for a while.

    Ha ha ha…vegas..ha ha ha!

  23. Then ther is Cote’s theme song, “Mr Bagman”.
(to the yune of Mr Sndman
one and a two and a….
Mr. Bagman, bring us a scheme
Make the election a Liberal dream
Lots of lies and untraceable cash
Plenty of dimwits and Mexican hash
    Mr Bagman, don’t forget us
We’re in big trouble the cops make a fuss
A place to hide is all that we need
We promise to cool it and lessen the greed
Mr. Bagman, (Alphonso’s solo voice: “Yesss?”) bring us a scheme
Give us some cash for our election dream
Mr Bagman some cash to hold
Would be so peachy before we’re too old
So please turn on your magic beam
Mr. Bagman, bring us, please, please, please
Mr. Bagman, bring us a scheme

Maybe he got the news today that now Videotron wants to pull out of the cable funding agreement along with Shaw Cable.
If this becomes a trend among cable operators, it will knock a good chunk out of the CBC budget.
I would love to see Newman, Bonner etal have to beg for funds PBS style.

  25. Don Martin said: Dion
    “Watching those bespectacled eyes yesterday,
you sensed confusion and consternation at the way things are unfolding. What’s missing is the confidence his Liberals can move higher in polling where they’ve clearly peaked.” (national post)
    …-
The bespectacled eyes of Dion are here:
    Mark Marissen
“I’m supporting Stéphane because he gets it. Stéphane thinks ahead, always looking to the future, rooted in his experience and his principles.”

  26. JOse- Why don’t you say what you really mean. What you realy want to ssy is “Conservative politicians are like junkyard dogs. You want to keep them on a short leash”, non? If that is the case then we sure don’t even want to let Liberal politicians out of the kennel, period.

  27. They call him Flipper, Flipper Under the sea.
DION BACKTRACKS WHAT HE SAID YESTERDAY.
Could you just see the panic that set in when Dion Got FOOT IN MOUTH DISEASE, Blackberries down due to volume on network, will resume thursday.

  28. Thanks Greg In Dallas,
I’ve met one of the real mob members the Gene Hackman character chased and convicted in “the French Connection”.
He now lives in Hamilton Ontario, and probably votes liberal.
Cote is also poison, even the libs must know that any appearance of embracing actual convicts as part of your “team”, can’t be seen as favourable if you want to run the governmet.
Cote is not worth his weight on board.
What do you think Cote has on them all that would require the liberal party to publicly accept this convicted thief back?
How dangerous to the party image is this guy ?
Why would the liberals take him back, the negative publicity will be overwhelming.
How did Cote get Dion to publicly speak well of him?
Maybe it does’nt matter any more what the party head wants.
    Cote wants his cut.
How could he force Dion to publicly speak of overtures of forgiveness at such an inopportune time for Dion.
Cote wants back in,… what did he threaten the libs with ?
Maybe another car explosion like his pal Explody Joe Morselli.
    Later, if need be.
Or maybe he’ll sing? He’s done his time.
Can’t be convicted twice for the same crime.
Maybe Cote said he would reveal the identities of the 12 librano MP’s that took our stolen money!
Dion is maybe one of the 12 ?
Or maybe convicted criminal Mark Yvann Cote is just a really good guy to have around if you’re a lib Prime Minister wanna be.

  29. Question is: Will Cote, having been slapped down again, turn to the mole. We can only hope.
Who are the 12 liberal mps in Quebec. Who are the 25 libs not running next election. Will all Que liberal mps be tarred with the 12. Mr Hammond, please answer these questions, taxpayers have a right to know.

  30. How can Dion and the crowd contemplate bringing Cote back?
Because, in their minds, he really didn’t do anything wrong…so they don’t understand why he can’t come out and play again.
It’s that simple. And a clear indication of the Liberal mindset.

  31. The letter might be off dions webb, but it still out there for all to see. I thought the libs and cbc were very anti American, so why are they following so many of the US media and politicians.
    1. Howard Dean as keynote speaker at convention
    2. Peter Manbridge and cbc pulling a cbs Dan Rather stunt.
    3. Following Gerald Fords pardoning of Nixon, dion pardoning Cote, and I suspect all the others kicked out of the party.
Next thing you know the libs will be for sending troops to Iraq.
