From the You Can’t Make This Stuff Up Files;
Dion told Quebec newspaper Le Soleil that he has no objections to Marc-Yvan Cote being allowed to resume his Liberal membership.
Cote, a former party organizer in Quebec, was one of 10 members banned for life from the party by former prime minister Paul Martin in the wake of the sponsorship scandal.
Dion added that Cote’s punishment was “exaggerated,” and that he’d recognized his error and shouldn’t be penalized for life.
[…]
Dion noted that he thought that Cote “recognized his mistakes.”
Gerard Kennedy, Dion’s special adviser on election readiness, says each case will have to be decided on its own merits.
During the Gomery inquiry into the sponsorship scandal, Cote testified that he received $120,000 in $100 bills from the executive director of the party’s Quebec wing. He distributed that money to 12 Liberal candidates in the 1997 federal election.
Who would have guessed that a full year after Gomery and turning the page with selection of a new leader, the Liberals would pump new life into the Libranos blogging theme?
Has the Mole been promoted?

“”recognized his mistakes.””
Ya . . never use a paper bag to transport taxpayer’s stolen money.
Use a suitcase, you can steal much more and the handle is so convenient for the get-away.
No surprise wasn’t he just saying something about “Convictions”. He is just following through, besides maybe the Liberals need these “effective” organizers for the next election and need time to get all those brown envelopes stuffed!!!!
“recognized his mistakes”
Got caught.
If I could draw political cartoons,I would start with Chretien and his hand puppet Dion.
Do we have the names of the ’12 Liberal candidates’?
Wondering if Cote has someone by the privates, and that someone must have some ‘convictions’, because Dion says they DO!
it’s a good idea to welcome Cote back into the fold. He knows and understands the system, and Dion may need a “fall guy” later in his career, and Cote will once again do the good deed for his boss.
When you run an outfit with the ethics the Libs have demonstrated, it’s better to have a few proven soldiers, than have to trust those you don’t know.
Now, how about Chuck and Alphonse, are they forgiven too?
At least Dion will recycle the brown paper bags of cash.
Maybe they needed Cote to fill an empty seat on their ‘election readiness’ committee.
What committee seat will the other 2 ‘lifers’ get??
Good on Dion and the Libs….they deserve all they can get…..and the pay back hopefully will be winnng about 12 seats in the next election!
Very interesting. It does indeed seem, as Rob has pointed out, that Dion is Chretien’s puppet.
Dion’s rhetoric is Chretien’s – the pro-Kyoto, the anti-West, the centralization of power. The vapid rhetoric of ‘economic sustainability, social justice and the environment’. These, by the way, are all platitudes from Dion of 2004. The same themes, the same words.
The focus on Winning. That’s pure Chretien – and Chretien’s tactic was to pit regions against each other, and above all, to ‘win Quebec’ because of its 75 seats. The West, BC and Alberta, have the same population as Quebec, but only 64 seats. To get up to that 75, they’ll have to increase their population by over a million (above Quebec’s population).
So- Dion went out to Alberta, and talked about their ‘easy money’, to show Quebec that he, Dion, would get that easy money, for Quebec’s needs. Chretien’s tactic was the Sponsorship agenda, where he funnelled money from the taxpayer to pay for election campaigns in Quebec.
The other tactic is the use of the Kyoto Religion, which attracts fervent supplicants in both Quebec and Toronto/latte areas.
Other than that – it’s all empty rhetoric. And Dion is similar to Chretien with his arrogance and contempt for the general population. Chretien played the role of ‘da liddle guy’ – which masked the reality that he is an extremely wealthy oil baron. Dion can’t do that – he doesn’t have that ‘harmless cover’ that Chretien had. And it’s showing – reader comments in even the G&M are frequently hostile to Dion.
Chretien wants his people back in power – and the federal purse and benefits.
I wonder when the usual Chretien tactic of anti-Americanism will resurface within the Liberal rhetoric?
Sad to see that Dion has no problem with this. Obviously he hasn’t learned much from the sponsorship scandal and maybe that’s a good thing.
It is in keeping with the Liberal policy on crime and punishment, after all it has been over a year and it was only a lifetime ban!
Now you know why the Liberals are “Soft on Crime”

Any guesses as to the identity of the 12 misfortunate ridings who will be putting up with this lousy bunch of crooks next time around??
🙂
Now just where is that smiley for “head shaking repeatedly”?
Didn’t Dion have a $100.00 donation campaign going on for his LPC leadership run? Now he’ll have an experienced person who can easily distribute that cash he collected…
Geez, I am tired of the Liberals under Dions’ leadership already. And where are former Liberals like Manley and McKenna? And what are they waiting for? It looks like they just want to lay low while the Libs move more left and more socialist. I would love to see them move to the Conservatives and endorse PMSH.
A distressing move. I hate to say it but I’m actually liking this minority CPC government. I’m hoping that Harper does something about energy/emissions because the Liberals could benefit by wandering in the wilderness for a good number of years.
Just wanted to commit this to writing.
Dion will make a statement seeking the pardon of serial killer Robert Picton because as a child he could not benefit from Nanny state run programs to brainwa….er….guide children towards the multicultural love springing forth from Turtle Bay!
Let me get this straight, Dion was the unity minister under Chretien, he’s the guy that was in charge of trying to keep Quebec in Canada. He didn’t know anything about the Adscam program. Paul Martin was the Finance Minister in the same Chretien government, he also didn’t know about the Adscam program. Chretien, was the Prime Minister at the time, he didn’t know about the Adscam program. It seems that nobody in the Liberal hierarchy knew about the Adscam program. The Adscam program was pulled off under the noses of the most powerful men in the country by a bunch of their bureaucratic minions, and nobody knew about it. Now the newly appointed Liberal Saviour has admitted that he sees nothing wrong with bringing Cote back into the fold. I wonder when Guite and Brault will be welcomed back into the fold and assigned positions to start funnelling the brown envelopes back into the Liberal party coffers. Arrogance thy name is Liberal.
What is in that backpack. Do the liberals really think that cdns in the greatest part of Canada have forgotten the crooked quebec liberals. Will the quebec voter forget and forgive, or are they prepared to be known as the home of the crooked, corrupt politicians. Liberal convictions, what a great statement by Dion. We just have to make him mad in public, in front of the media where they can’t hide it. Too many cell camera phones out there.
Moral:
When receiving unmarked bills in a brown paper bag, always use a condom, because you never know where the dink who’s giving it to you has been the night before.
Is it just a matter of time for the former Danish Embassador and “made man’- Gagliano to be rehabilitated By Dion and invited back into the party to reenergize the brown envelope brigade.
One they cannot turn to is Joe Marcelli – Gagliano’s reported “unofficial fundraiser”
The Libs are using the “Chretien aura” (odour?) to manipulate the party’s fortune.
Thankfully the brown envelopes should at least not be directly tied to taxpayers picked pockets.
It’s less surprising as time goes on. It’s what we’ve come to expect
from the party that won’t even wipe the Volpe off it’s shoes.
The sad thing is that the Liberals will absolutely get away with this sort of behaviour, and no one in the media will even think to question them about it. I guess all it takes is a leadership convention and a couple of pronouncements about the party being ‘fully renewed and united’ to make it so.
Can we steal millions of dollars now, and be reduced to a minority again? I would think not.
Gerald Kennedy was just on Newman. Wonder how many liberals who were at the convention are comparing how he and dion appear in public and kicking themselves. GK could be understood, did not speak french, looked like a politician who cared, but unfortunately he talked about renewing the party in Quebec. Guess he missed dion saying evicted members are welcomed back. He will not run in Quebec, and agrees with dion that there will probably not be an election till 2008. Imagine, a presidential campaign and cdn campaign at the same time. Who will the cbc trash the most, big decisions for them to make.
This latest manoeuvre speaks volumes about the character and integrity of the individuals who want to work for the Liberal Party
How can Marlene Jennings keep a straight face with her load of bilge water
Great lines in History..
The cheque is in the mail..
This will hurt me more than you..
Honestly, it’s me…not you….
I’ll only put it in half way, that way you won’t get pregnant!
Peace in our time!
“I promise to get to the bottom of this..Canadians deserve better,if there are people ,ah,members found guilty then we will have to say i,m sorry, but this is not what Canadians want..”
Paul Martin
From the CTV article:
‘Dion noted that he thought that Cote “recognized his mistakes.”‘
LIEberal translation:
Cote is sorry he got caught.
“Let me get this straight, Dion was the unity minister under Chretien, he’s the guy that was in charge of trying to keep Quebec in Canada. He didn’t know anything about the Adscam program. Paul Martin was the Finance Minister in the same Chretien government, he also didn’t know about the Adscam program. So that would make them Sgt Schulz, Col. Klink & General Burkhalter respectively
I can only hope that this will be seen as Dion’s “Gerald Ford” moment and that the Canadian electorate will give him the same treatment that the US electorate provided GF.
Unbelievably stupid on Dion’s part. Hence the title of my blog post on the subject: “Dumb, dumber, Dion”.
Honestly, who in their right mind would want to bring back those people after all that talk about “renewal and reform”.
“I can only hope that this will be seen as Dion’s “Gerald Ford” moment and that the Canadian electorate will give him the same treatment that the US electorate provided GF.”
If only. Alas, the media will bury it and move on to some anti-Harper issue.
No worries, though. Dion will keep opening his mouth and stepping on his p****r, giving us lots of material and the MSM lots of migraines.
“I can only hope that this will be seen as Dion’s “Gerald Ford” moment and that the Canadian electorate will give him the same treatment that the US electorate provided GF.”
I’m beginning to have my doubts. This site is a breath of fresh air, however, I don’t believe that a majority of people read the internet for politics, average mom and pop just don’t have the time or are somewhat iliterate to technology. Unfortunately the media are still the flavor of the day and right now they have their sights focused on PHSH.
The sad thing is…they will get away with it yet again. Objecting would be “mean”.
Sigh. “Canada” – a nation where consequence and responsibility have been divorced for so long that merely suggesting they are synonyms draws looks of blank incomprehension.
Tell me if I am wrong . Doesn’t it seem to you folks Chretien is the real opposition Leader in absentia, instead of Dion? I mean who makes these decisions? There preposterous in light of today‘s veracity of facts or history.
Its looks as if their playing all the old tunes, sung in a used voice from the past. Their they sit. Like yesterdays bad smell. All in a row, like they never left in shame, or degradation. The very mannequins of the Cretien regime , now ensconced in Dions shadow gallery of hooligans.
Even the political tactics are vintage liberal. Lies innuendo, the MSM, fear mongering, the subtle red neck portrayal of anyone not from Central Canada, Alberta bashing. The last being the signature of the little guy, Godfather hiself.
Which brings us back to the original question.
Just one more of the Liberals’ convictions. They always spout off that theirs are Canadian values, not the extremist ones put out by PM Harper.
Someone spending Canadian taxpayers money as frivolously and cheaply as the Liberanos did, is not a Canadian value.
It’s a liberal one though. Dion is not the nice little professor type he likes to portray. Perhaps the guy who drew the rat cartoon was correct.
And yet soooo strangely silent on this turn of events is the little smurf Cherniak! Also, anyone notice how quickly Newman, and the Lib.hack Travers chose to just skate over this little faux pas? Instead they chose to slam PMSH..love their consistency!
Just a thot, maybe Dion HAS to welcome the thieves back to the fold, could they know about some good dirt that could really do Dion in??
The LPC is calling back the old gang. They were all there, they all knew about the LPC collective agenda to do anything (legal or illegal) to enrich themselves and their friends (Mo tse Strong in China …and others) on the backs of Canadian citizens via the power of taxation and legislation.
What taxpayer in his/her right mind would vote to be used, abused, robbed and then scorned?
If you are not against them , you are for them. I hope all people will be able to determine where the msm stand – Yup, ‘if it OK”S criminal actions in the past and is waiting in shadows to have the power to continue the sleazy life of luxury via crime (not izzy work in the oilfields!), it (he/she) is a bagged Liberano with the name, in red, on the outside of the bag.
This country could use that stolen money and if we don’t start stamping our feet and screaming about repayment – not empty repentance – the bigshots will forget about getting around to taking all the assets of the criminals and giving the $$ back to the people of this country in one tax free lump sum. CSL should be the first outfit on the auction block – Auberge of the Swindlegate ; second.
So whasa proble,? Cote would just be coming home to his natural environment in the den of thieves.
…HEY, I recognized my past mistakes…
Can I get paid now?
Could we say all crooks and liars say they realize the error of their ways when they get caught?
Liberals are no different. Chalk it up to “honest” mistakes made by crooks. How could they possibly know what was in the (brown paper) bags?
They sure as hell knew it wasn’t Plonk.
Sounds like Steffawn is ready to forgive his former Libranos, case by case basis of course. He’ll skirt around it but in the end Cote and others will be welcomed via the back door.
Have to bear in mind also the MSM are already saying the Conservatives should not be talking about Adscam, it’s “old news”. No surprise there!
What bugs me the most is that the NDP continue to elect morons for leaders.I suppose Broadbent was the exception but with a decent leader, raised in the real world,I think the Liberal party would disappear or at least divide.
There should be no room for “phoney politics” in Canada. Left or right! I can’t stand the “balanced approach”.Damn Humpty Dumpty Liberals.
I need a cup of tea!
Forever is never such a long time in politics.
And if you were Dion realizing that the Liberal machine in Quebec is currently decimated, wouldn’t you be able to find forgiveness in your heart? 😀
If Dion plays his cards right, there is a cushy directorship with Power Corporation waiting for him. (Or even a Steamship Line to play with?)
borat dion is just like vd….he just keeps on giving. go borat go
Gomery was one hundred percent correct when he called the Lie-beral’s “criminally organized”.
Did Cretin ever sell those golf course shares?
rob says…
What bugs me the most is that the NDP continue to elect morons for leaders.I suppose Broadbent was the exception but with a decent leader, raised in the real world,I think the Liberal party would disappear or at least divide.
as much as i hate to say, even suggest but stephen lewis seems to be in between jobs as they say….have to wash my mouth now.
Over 400 comments in the g&m on this, and the few I read are all against him. The dumbest one I red is from a liberal who accuses the g&m of showing their true conservative colors (paraphrased), by allowing this story and comments.
His punishment was EXAGGERATED. Someone please explain what that means. The man was caught in an ongoing criminal enterprise, doling out stolen money to his confederates.A lifetime suspension from the liberals is too much. Good grief. Harper was right when he called the adscam gang “a criminal organization”. I think that next to the bike clubs the liberals had more rcmp investigations ongoing than any other group in the country.I wish this country would wake up.
