… is the third largest producer of greenhouse gases. So, while Dion speculates aloud about taxing oil, gas and coal what will he do about a Crown Corp? How do you tax a province? Transfer-payments? Income tax?
Related: Here’s Alberta’s response;
Backbencher MLA Ted Morton, who finished third in the recent Tory leadership race, is the new minister of sustainable resource development.
Update: reader Bart F. clarifies in the comments;
Sustainable resource development is more about trees and fish etc. than oil and gas.
Mel Knight, new energy minister would be a key guy if Beaker et al attempt a resource raid. A low keyed but solid biography. Likely more than able to rip a strip off Beaker:

We will see if he just gave this
to Ted to placate us and it does not hold any power. Elect porridge and you get mush when the feds come calling, especially Dion.
Ont. Hydo is the BIGGEST Canada producer of greenhouse gases. How is Dhyon going to ‘deal’ with that old Mo tse Strong outfit? He owes the Ont people a ‘plan’; will he choke one up? Questions, questions, questions for the scary Liberano$ and their Dipper/blocitsta hard left allies.

Intergovernment/Federal Negotiator is now G. Boutellier. Is he fluently bilingual?
The first thing I’m looking for is how much he knows about Law S-3 and what he sees as the ramifications of this law for AB. Also if there is a change at the DM and/or the two ADM positions.
I believe the AB gov’t has been far to soft on Law S-3 and the incursion of both Official Bilingualism/Official Multiculturalism into AB. When a Judge in Ontario rules that an x-mas tree must be removed from the lobby of a downtown TO courthouse – and he did – enough already. We don’t need that here.
Notice I use the word “official” above. I’m all for the small m multiculturalism as well as equal opportunity for all language groups – not 70 – 25 in favor of French in AB as it is in all things federal.
How strong is he going to be when it comes time to negotiating with the feds in terms of Official Bilingualism that is going to be rammed down our throats in the very near future.
Rumor seems to have it that his counterpart might in fact be Rona Ambrose in the New year. Interesting that she was a bureaucrat in the AB Intergov. Dept before Ottawa.
By not giving Ted Morton a decent portfolio such as energy or justice or intergovernmental affairs, Stelmach is telling him to sit quietly somewhere in a corner. Alberta hasn’t been real conservative for years, and nothing is about to change. Too bad.
But Stephane Dion — who says Canada must cut its emissions of the greenhouse gases — said he has no plans to impose extra taxes on gasoline.
Just WTF is this guy The King of France or something? How exactly does he plan to “impose extra taxes” from his position?
What a meglomanical little shit!
Slightly off topic:
You don’t suppose Calvert’s pique of a fit, storming out of the PM’s office last week had anything to do with the upcoming strike action of SGEU? Lorne’s gotta come up with that 27% pay hike from somewhere, and by now we *know* it sure as hell isn’t going to be found through any sense of fiscal restraint on his government’s part.
I think we are just beginning to see the real Dion. He is more Communist than Liberal. Dion is a Professor of Sociology and lives in the academic touchy-feely world. His inability to grasp scientific fact and anything mathematical is alarming. In my opinion, HE is the scary guy to watch because of his need for total control and his rabid socialism.
And, yes, he is a megalomanic!
Speaking of “Honest Ralphie?”, wonder how the RCMP is doing on the Income Trust file, where Scott Brison and other Lie-beral’s figure prominently?

Further to Morton’s appointment,
This effectively makes him the political head of Alberta Fish and Wildlife, and its a good fit. He’s known as an avid outdoorsman, and hails from Wyoming, which in the Resource Officer community is known for its excellent resource policies…
Although I would have like to see him as intergovernmental affairs, myself.
Morton position also holds:
Sustainable Resource and Environmental Management (SREM)

morton will run this portfolio with responsibilty. The last fat doughboy who ran it played major politics like bussing in 300 hutterites to his nomination meeting and giving them 2 beer and a naked Pamela anderson photo. Most of the photos were pasted to the ceiling of the bus out of pincher creek that night before old fat dave coutts could even appoint his scumbag best friend lawyers scumbag lawyer wife to the bench. Yea responsibility should always go with cabinet positions,, hear that gary marr. dave coutts, shirly, etc….
Anyone who expected Ted Morton to get one of the plums was dreaming, he’s still sitting in his first term!!! He only got anything because he finished 3rd.
Overall we have to see how this all plays out, and realistically nobody can know anything till we have another federal election.
The Environment is the key … it’s going to be the key until all the chicken littles see that the sky isn’t falling. I’m pretty sure Stephane Dion can’t run an election on “The One Tonne Challenge” because as far as I can tell that was the only liberal plan towards meeting kyoto targets.
We’ll be OK …
Speaking of Ralphy Goodale, what a phony, full of shit brown noser. Anyone notice his first in line shifts to the “winner” at the Liberal convention?
In spite of loud proclamations to the contrary, the party is still divided. Chretien’s Air Freshener was the winner, now it’s only they who can clean up the environment. Polls are now saying they are taking support from the NDP for gawds sake, the crew who have environment as their main toot.
Go figure.
Hey Liz J, Lie-beral polling companies coming up with those numbers? heh, heh, heh, heh! Former PMPM even believed their own lies, remember him declaring that the Lie-beral’s would win the largest majority in Canadian history? heh! And Stephanie wants continue the, so called, Private Foundations. Which the Lie-beral’s blocked the Auditor General from auditing, the NINE BILLION DOLLARS that makes Adscam pale in comparison.
Fixing Canada’s power generation system isn’t going to be cheap or easy in the short term, but if it’s done right with wind, nuclear, solar, and bio fuels, then we’ll be better off in the long term, and create employment in the short term as well.
Would love to have said “I told you so”. About Honest Ed, the “nice” guy.
To bad I am so horrified aboutwhat is going to transpire from this mess for Alberta , Than i give a hoot about being right. Dion will have him for lunch, with cheese.
Putting Morton in a do nothing job will end up costing the red tories there pants & then some. I wonder how long before he goes to the Alliance party. I know I am.
The biggest producers of greenhouse gases are the people on this blog!!
Morton delivered the majority of his second choices to Stelmach. Most of his votes come from southern alberta, where stelmach is not much liked. He got the votes to keep Dinning out. Morton is at the cabinet table, and will not be a silent member. The Alliance Party elected one MLA last election, and come second in many ridings. Ed knows that he needs s.alta ridings to win. Edmonton will maybe stay lib and ndp, but those ndp ridings in the north could turn with a northern Premier. Calgary might elect more liberals, but I doubt it. If Dion should win, and Ed gives in by so much as an inch re our resourses or other tax grabs, watch for the Alliance to grow, and most likely the Alberta Separtist party. Que better start to figure out how to finance its own programs, without the cowards dion and duceppe stealing from the rest of canada.
