Rush Limbaugh admits he’s been spewing BS for years:

More evidence of the outright bias of the mainstream media: today’s headline in the Winnipeg Free Press.
“Minister Kicks Wheat Board”
“After first being sure to tie the CWB’s hands behind its back, the minister took a few swings at the grain marketer….”
What did he do that was so terrible? He sent an op-ed to all major Canadian newspapers pointing out that there are several studies done by prominent Canadians that challenge the claim of the CWB and its allies that farmers get anywhere from $500 million to $800 million in benefits from keeping a legal monopoly in place, and that these studies deserve a fair hearing.
That constitutes “kicking” the CWB? With every leftist organization in the land endlessly regurgitating the CWB’s own propaganda, its hands are in no way “tied”.
Has anyone read Michael Harris’s wonderful column, just in time for Remembrance Day, implying our troops burn fields, destroy homes, kill people, and are on a doomed mission? It’s right here:

“Did anyone see former PM Dithers on CBC at the committe hearings where he’s trying to get his private members bill passed to force the government to obey the Kelowna Accord.A Conservative was giving him a rough go with his questions which CBCPRAVDA thought was unfair.
The question Martin refused to answer was on what date was the accord signed by the Premiers and other members.Shock upon shock, there is no actual accord signed.Martin said they agreed publicly on television(read phot-op).
So it looks like just another case of Liberal’s saying something to get votes, much like kyoto. At least they signed that, they just did nothing after.”

Paulsstuff:
Don’t you know that a Liberal’s word is as good as the paper it’s signed on.
Former Prime Minister Paul Martin is such a horse’s ass. His insistence on the reality of the “Kelowna Accord,” unwritten, unsigned, and undated–and he’s a lawyer, for **** sake–is pure fantastical wishful thinking. No court would uphold such an agreement, so why doesn’t he just shut up and go home?
Of course, he doesn’t have to go home, seeing as he seems to spend most of his time there, anyway. We haven’t seen Mr. Dithers around the House of Commons in months, nor the Liberal Premier of Ontario, Mr. Duh-lton McGuilty.
Librano$, whether provincial or federal, think they can rule from their private thrones; that’s one way of making sure the duped public never sees the crown jewels. They’re either on the crowned heads of the Librano ‘leaders’ (sic) or stashed in their offshore safety deposit boxes, undeclared, unseen, and untaxed.
Canada has become rotten to the core, except for the CPC, which is trying to stem the rot and corruption. When you’ve got an equally rotten, entitled MSM acting as the Official Opposition or, at the very least, championing the talking points of the Librano$, the Dippers, and the Blocheads, it’s a slippery, downward slope heading straight into the swamp.
My father and grandfathers were veterans of two world wars. Methinks they’re rolling over in their graves.
BTW, lookout, I agree with you and ET. John Ibbitson is not a conservative. He may be more conservative than Susan Riley, but so what? That doesn’t make him conservative. Whatever happened to that wonderful commentator from the University of Ottawa, Gilles Pacquet? Now, there’s a genuine conservative, and he was easily the most charming, intelligent, and thoughtful commentator on that panel of him, Ibbotson, and Riley.
Check Angry GWN and see what the ‘opposition’ plans to do with regard to a world conference where we will be represented by Rona Ambrose.
I am so shocked and outraged I can hardly type; they plan to stalk our gov’t!

Going to the red “go straight to the graph” will allow you to change x and y, and trail and play trends. It’s UN data but it’s better than nothing.

Bart F.: A letter sent to the Ottawa Sun:
‘Bush-league writing
It is impossible to take Michael Harris seriously as a writer on international affairs. In his column, “Bush-league warning” (Nov. 10), he writes of “the Kurds” and “the Arabs” as inhabitants of Afghanistan. Now there are Kurds and Arabs in Iraq. But in Afghanistan there is no significant resident population of Kurds (there may be some 25,000) or Arabs. Perhaps Mr Harris’ remorseless opposition to what the US is doing in Iraq, and to what Canada is doing in Afghanistan, has led him to confuse the two countries.
A further indication of Mr Harris’ unfamiliarity with the realities of Afghanistan is that, in his naming of various ethnic groups there, he omits the Hazaras and Tajiks–the largest groups after the Pushtuns (though it is not clear which of the two is more numerous in the absence of a recent census). In 1967 some 5,000 Tajiks apparently spoke a dialect of Arabic but even then the number of Arabic speakers was declining.

… whatya think of the game sofar, Don?
Boyoyboy, that Harper, is a surefire winner… all the way to the Cup. …-
Wickenheiser [from Shaunavon, Sask.] invites PM to
women’s world hockey champ.
By DONNA SPENCER
KITCHENER, Ont. (CP)
…
Harper and the Canadian team were staying in the same Kitchener hotel.
After Harper had his picture taken with the team and was presented with a signed jersey, Wickenheiser recalled that Harper watched a game of the 2004 women’s world championship in Halifax when he was a member of Parliament and Opposition leader.
So the captain made her pitch.
“This was totally spontaneous for me,” Wickenheiser said following the team practice at Memorial Auditorium. “I thought it would be interesting to see his reaction, which was very good.
“He turned and looked at his aides and said ‘Absolutely’. He said he was in Halifax and watched a game, he’s a hockey fan and any time he can combine hockey and politics, he would like to do it.”
The prime minister’s son Ben plays minor hockey in Ottawa, so Wickenheiser believed her invitation would appeal to the hockey dad in him.
“It maybe threw him off a bit. I don’t think he expected it,” she said. “I thought ‘He’s a hockey fan. Why not?”‘
The native of Shaunavon, Sask., hopes Harper can attend because it would raise the profile of her sport.
“I don’t how often he gets to Winnipeg but it would be a boost for women’s hockey,” she said. …-
I watched part of “The National” last night for the first time in several months and I thought Rex Murphy had a dynamite commentary including this:
http://www.cbc.ca/national/rex/rex_061109.html
“I had not known until this very day that Don Cherry doesn’t have a single civic award of distinction yet, no Order of Canada, no medal of merit. Is this possible? Can there be such a thing as an Order of Canada that doesn’t have Don Cherry in it? Has every governor-general of the last 20 years been asleep? Do they not watch “Coach’s Corner”? I fear we are not a serious nation. My Order of Canada includes Don Cherry. What about yours?”
I’m with Rex on this. If Canadians in name only like Shania Twain and Celine Dion are members of the Order of Canada, certainly Don Cherry deserves the honour!
Lookout,
this is the scond time I have heard journos at the G & M being described as Conservative. I read a bit recently (Western Standard) about Marg Wente being Conservative.
Methinks the G&M editorial staff are trying to muddle to the new middle. I think they’ve told their “least left” journos to go out there and talk with the righties.
Does the G&M smell a sea change???
MAZ2,
I am outraged that the liberal party, poodle of the the US government, will host the leader of the ruling party.
Do the liberals do anything without kow-towing to the US to get their approval?
Bryanr,

The Senate is playing right into Conservative hands. I don’t know them but they must have a game plan; it just is not working for them in the long run. Harper is sharper.

DNC Response to Carville [Democrat Civil War!]
The New Republic ^ | November 10, 2006 | Ryan Lizza
Howard Dean spokeswoman Karen Finney emails the following in response to James Carville’s comments below:
After the Republicans have admitted to a thumping, why is it that the only one complaining on the Democratic side is
James Carville,
who today in addition to trashing Howard Dean,
praised the RNC, the outfit that brought us the racist ad that defeated Harold Ford, James’ supposed candidate for Chair?
Perhaps he’s not aware that under Dean in this
midterm election the DNC has raised record cash
— all hard dollars — including three times as much from major donors, eight times as much online and made a $30 million investment in the ’06 cycle, three times as much as the DNC put into the last midterm. Not to mention we made an $8m overhaul of our voter file which was successfully used in 47 states and through the 50 state strategy invested in states like Pennsylvania, Kansas, Indiana and Montana where we had critical victories on Tuesday.
Guess who are on the Democratic moonbats’ hit-ler list? The Joos.
Joe Lieberman is number One on the list. …-
The Protocols of the Daily Kos
The antisemitic Kos Kidz are at it again, trying to expose the hidden hand of the International Zionist Conspiracy:
Daily Kos: what’s with the Israel lobby?
Extract from Daily Kos:
Now that they believe they’re in power, they want to get started on the important things. Like hunting down those sneaky Jews who are corrupting our government.
But to me the biggest issue now is pressing for an open discussion on the State of Israel, and how the Israel lobby influences our elected representatives.I have no idea what is going on behind these closed doors, and I don’t know how to find out. I don’t have an answer for Israelis, but the entire world knows that humiliating occupied people won’t lead to peace or to reconciliation, so more humiliations and killings can’t work. These two ‘warring’ parties won’t be able to make peace until some outside authority mediates and brokers a compromise solution for them, both sides have dug themselves in too deep. Let’s ask for answers to what’s been going on behind our backs, and to the solutions our elected representatives propose. …-

Volcanic eruptions destroy ozone and create ‘mini-ozone holes’, according to two new studies by researchers at the Universities of Cambridge and Oxford. Technology as Mephistopheles
Chester interviews Dr. Fred Ikle, an Undersecretary of Defense under Ronald Reagan and arms control expert on his book Annihilation from Within. “We are preoccupied with suicide bombers, jihadist terrorists, and rogue nations producing nuclear weapons, but these menaces are merely distant thunder that foretells the gathering storm. It is the dark side of technological progress that explains this emerging crisis.” This is a five star quality interview. In terms of its range, naturalness and surprising discovery you will not find a better discussion anywhere.
Wait for the part when Chester asks about Ikle’s idea of how increasing life expectancy changes the tone of society because
it reflects the changing emotional seasons of the aging,
and ask yourself if discussions ever get any better than this. …-

ET, thanks a lot for that information on John Ibbitson. Yes, he is thoughtful and does, sometimes, take a swipe at the Liberals. And compared to Susan Riley . . . ANYONE would look conservative!
Like most of the MSM, Steve doesn’t like criticism. I agree with you that his response to me was not very polite–even sort of arrogant. However, I’ve received worse, and, as I said, we’re on speaking terms at the moment! Apparently, on Monday, from a very reliable source, The Agenda will feature C(c)onservatives. Hugh Segal ;-( but also some “real” conservatives–no specifics. I’ll be watching!
Zip, Wimpy Canadian, and BATB, thanks also for your helpful input.
This or any other government will never do anything worthwhile to stop the flow of funds to offshore accounts as it’s almost impossible. There is one way however, reduce taxation, especially in regards to retirees. Once you have pushed someone to the point where they fiddle the government by taking their money offshore you never get those taxpayers back, never. I think most would be stunned to know the real numbers of offshore Canadians and how easy it is to be one. This latest announcement is nothing but a scare tactic by the government to try and stem the flow. I can guarantee you that the vast majority of these offshore Canadians have more that paid their fair share of taxes over their working years. They have just plain and simply had enough when approaching retirement with the prospect of a reduced income and standard of living. Why should anyone have to sacrifice their standard of living just because they retire? They don’t and won’t and never will, get used to it.
As far as catching corporate “cheaters” is concerned that is an even more complicated and useless task. Every exporting country including ours allows this “cheating” to go on, it’s called incentives to the buyer or importing country. A touching the surface example, China gives the buyer of a product a discount that is not recorded on the invoice, that discount is then deposited in an off shore account. Bingo, it’s that easy and it’s done all the time, if not by the government by an independent importer/exporter. And isn’t competition a wonderful thing, what do you think India and Brazil do to compete with China? Maybe a little more incentive?

Mr. Dion, surprise, is a dual-citizen: France and Canada.
It is possible that Mr. Dion could be Liberal Prime Minister of Canada.
Can a Prime Minister of Canada, the highest political officer in Canada, be faithful, loyal, and true to two countries at the same time: France and Canada? Would the Prime Minister not choose one country over the other?
Can a Prime Minister be schizophrenic about his loyalties?
Which country, France or Canada, has Dion chosen as his home and native land? To which country does Dion have the greater loyalty?
Dion must give up his French citizenship. Dion must be challenged about this.

Baloney. If they had paid their fair share of taxes then they wouldn’t have left my generation with a half trillion dollar federal debt, now would they?
I propose an intergenerational equity tax on all Canadians born prior to 1964. They specifically did NOT pay their fair share of taxes, as evidenced by federal debt, to say nothing of the Liberal multicultural Trudeaupian nonsense they have further burdened us with.
The “IET” would be in the form of a wealth tax and clawbacks on pensions, medicare, and every entitlement in sight.

This quote (h/t maz2) helps to put together the connection between Mao and Mo–and comments made by Bob Fife and Craig Oliver on CTV on Friday: “Consumed by his superpower ambition, Mao now wanted to achieve it in ‘one big bang.’ The Great Leap Forward, he said, would enable China to ‘overtake all capitalist countries in a fairly short time, and become one of the richest, most advanced and powerful countries in the world.’
“The plan, he said later, was to set up ‘the Earth Control Committee’ to ‘make a uniform plan for the Earth.'”
Fife and Oliver, on Fridays’ Mike Fluffy Live (Jane Taber’s still at the helm), were unapologetic cheerleaders for the Librano$ soft policy on China’s abysmal human rights abuses. They actually slagged Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the CPC’s “serious” challenge to the Chinese about their human rights abuses, and seemed to be saying that China’s snub of PMSH, by not yet granting him an interview, was deserved. Like, what would PMSH expect after he “seriously challenged” China’s record on human righs?
The Fife/Oliver position was, essentially, that Chretien and Martin had got it right by paying no more than lip service to Canada’s concern about China’s appalling record on human rights. The Librano approach would ensure Canada’s place as a trading partner to China which, next to the U.S., will be our biggest trading partner in the future.
Their take on the CPC seriously challenging the Chinese was that this was, obviously, a foolhardy move on Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s part.
I could barely believe what I was hearing. Principles be damned, compromise with a totally corrupt regime full speed ahead–and not only that, praise for the Librano$ for taking this road of least resistance.
Fife and Oliver are brazen dyed-in-the-wool Librano cheerleaders; they talked like full-fledged members of the Librano Party.
‘Wonder what the chances are they know Mo Strong?
‘Wonder what their financial portfolios look like…Hmmmm…investments, maybe, in Mo’s latest toy, the car that’s being manufactured in China…????
Not only is Canada’s MSM biased; they seem fully entrenched in the policies of a particular political party and are shameless in boosting these policies in so-called “news” stories and interviews.
Isn’t that what PRAVDA did?
KevinB, that was funny. Thanks for the laugh!
Tories target offshore tax havens
By Krystle Chow, Ottawa Business Journal Staff

Just a few days after the bombshell income trust tax decision, the federal government is targeting offshore tax havens for investigation.
Finance Minister Jim Flaherty said yesterday there was “significant tax avoidance” by Canadians, who put approximately $88 billion in offshore banks in 2003. The number has increased eightfold since 1990.
While using offshore tax havens to avoid taxes is not illegal, Mr. Flaherty noted that the activity is costing the government revenue, just as the income trusts did.
The finance minister introduced a motion in the House of Commons to amend the Income Tax Act, saying: “The motion will amend existing income tax rules to help ensure that income earned by Canadians through foreign jurisdictions, including tax havens, is subject to tax as if it had been earned in Canada.”
The amendment would target non-resident trusts and foreign investment entities.
Auditor General Sheila Fraser said multinational corporations have used offshore tax havens to avoid hundreds of millions of dollars in taxes over the past 10 years, with some analysts saying the amount of tax savings to Canadian banks alone is as high as $10 billion.
The most popular locations for these tax havens are Barbados, Ireland, Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, and the Bahamas.

Warning!!!-There are organizations out there
selling offshore tax plans that are not
technically valid and would not stand-up if they
were ever scrutinized by the Canada Revenue Agency.
The people selling these plans are often unqualified, shady, unethical operators
who are just looking to make fees for setting up offshore corporations or trusts.
They do not really care whether those plans work or not-that will be your problem, often years later-they just want to collect the fees!
Often, these people are ethically no different than the psychopathic con artists who fleece millions of dollars from naive senior citizens via telemarketing scams.”

Anchor Away!: What’s a company to do when it loses its lucrative public-sector anchor client?
National Post
….Donna Cona is the largest Aboriginal-owned technology company in Canada…It has over $10 million in annual revenue and plans to reach $30 million to $50 million in revenue within five years…
…The company…had just been told that its anchor client was cancelling a long-term contract….
…The news was calamitous. The client, a major federal government department, accounted for almost half of Donna Cona’s annual revenue of $10 million, and the contract had provided the decade-old company with a secure foundation for growth. Now, all of that was in peril….
…Even if Donna Cona could renew its contract or find a new major client, it would have to accept lower fees and reduced margins….
…many of its first technology projects with the federal government were awarded through the Procurement Strategy for Aboriginal Business, or PSAB…
…it would be difficult to imagine a better customer than the federal government: It spends a hundred billion dollars a year, it hands out massive contracts to small and mid-sized firms, and its accounts payable are backed by no less a power than general taxation….

Mazz, excellent advice on the offshore. It’s easy to do but you have to do it yourself and it takes some time. It is set up so you are legally no longer the owner of your assets but control them.

N.C. Candidate Easily Wins County Board Election, Despite Being Dead for a Month
The Associated Press
November 11, 2006
MONROE, N.C. – A candidate for a county board who appeared in newspaper ads the weekend before the election sailed to victory with 12,000 votes despite being dead for a month.
Sam Duncan was the top vote-getter Tuesday for two seats on Union County’s Soil and Water Conservation board.
Although county elections officials knew of Duncan’s death, no one told the voters.
“We are instructed that it’s not our job to do that,” said Shirley Secrest, elections director.
The Democratic Party ran newspaper endorsement ads about Duncan and literature distributed near the polls included his name. Party officials said they didn’t know Duncan had died.
Former sheriff Frank McGuirt said he was one of the voters who helped Duncan edge out the sitting chairman who had served for about a dozen years.
“I was shocked to know that poor Sam was gone,” McGuirt said. “I guess I had just missed that obituary.” …-
