Nealenews has functioned as a more than a source of news fodder for the blogosphere and talk radio hosts across the country. In my estimation, Brian Neale’s aggregator has been the single most important Canadian influence in pushing blog-driven stories into the mainstream media. He was the first to place blog posts on his site beside items in the Toronto Star, CTV, and elsewhere – driving stories (like Captain’s Quarter’s publication of the Jean Brault testimony and the income trust story) onto the nightly national news.
Today is the last posting for Nealenews. After spending five hours a day, seven days a week for the past four years updating this site, I have reached the point where I no longer have the energy or desire to continue.
In an attempt to prolong the inevitable, I recently decided to cut back on the postings, including weekends, but news operates on a 24-hour cycle and rather than become irrelevant through neglect, I’ve decided to pull the plug.
I would like to thank all of you for supporting this site so enthusiastically and for the many emails you have sent encouraging me along the way.
Thankyou, Brian. Something tells me you have no idea how much you’ll be missed,

Neale News RIP Its been good while it lasted
Well this is problematic.
I made Neale News my home page when Google News started displaying reports from idiot sources like the Xinhua News.
Large holes now exist in my web crawling – first Let It Bleed and now Neale News. Frankly, I don’t blame Brian for retiring; I don’t know how anyone who runs a blog or news aggregator finds the time.
I too want to add my voice to thank you, Kate – and the rest of the “blogging community” – you have changed the face of “news” and have allowed those of us in one end of the country to see, hear and understand what makes the other side tick – albeit shaking our heads at some of it.
So a great big THANKYOU shouted out to all you bloggers who tirelessly work so we can rant.
From the old classic – you don’t know what you got till it’s gone.

My fav Neal news moment was when he took a 3 week holiday right in the middle of the federal election. Ya, a real gem, that’s for sure.
Mr. Neale’s hanging it up as well as several others (more every month it seems) makes me wonder what is the fate of blogs long-term. Doing them for free simply isn’t sustainable. One day this very blog will go blank too, probably.
In a few years will we be looking back on this period (era?) as being a glorious moment of freedom much as I do now about music during the Napster era when it was utter anarchy and everything was free?
Seeing Mr. Neale compelled to give up something he loves to create and we love to consume saddens me in a much more global sense – it is symptomatic of the decline of something that has changed my life and many many others.
The effort of putting a first class site together must be a drain on the time, and energy of anyone.
Thanks Neale News for your dedication.

Gord Tulk has nothing to sulk about. I did a Google on the guy and he’s a complete blank. So are his syrupy ad hominems.
Neal was great to the extent that it was one of the 100 or so daily websites I visited. But in truth, there was nothing novel or even compelling about the guy’s website. He died on the vine because he was nothing but a “me-too” product. And stale at that.
Will he be missed ? Sure, for a week or so. But that’s about all.
And that’s what’s so exciting about the web. Stuff like neal comes and goes, barely causing a ripple.
Neal, time to wean yourself off the dole and get a real life, get a real job. I loved how you suckled off the teat of other websites to gather your headlines and pawned it off like some novel magic trick. Sure, leave the heavy lifting to others and live off the fat of the land. I guess you found out that strategy only works for so long before it all comes crashing back to reality. What a shock, 40 visitors a day is no way to make a living. How delusional of you. It’s as if smd in her moments of pure tantric fantasy imagined herself a conduit to Stephen Harper’s brain. Ya, right.
I’ve just recently bookmarked Neale News. Thank you so much for a fine site. This is a sad day for conservative Canadians.
