Breaking Senate Scandal

SENATE CALLS IN RCMP

Stephen Taylor is breaking the story that the senate will call for a RCMP investigation of Liberal Senator Raymond Lavigne;

[concerning] the actions of Liberal Senator Raymond Lavigne, a late-term Chretien appointment. Lavigne made news a while back when he used Senate resources to cut down some trees on his property. Today, the Senate board of Internal Economy heard that he allegedly filed a false $20,000 travel claim and I’ve heard that his own colleagues are going to call for an RCMP criminal investigation.

If you are not in agreement(they NEED agreement)then you are by their definition a troll. It is the groups attempt to make you a)fall in line, or
    b) get lost
Of course, I choose c)none of the above
So now its your turn to choose.

  2. Iberia – you may find that many individuals who now support the NEW Conservative Party are the same ones that left the Federal PROGRESSIVE Conservatives under Mulroney, Clark and the rest in droves and founded alternatives like the Reform, the Alliance and ultimately today’s new party. I do not believe Stephen Harper was ever a member of the PC party. Very few of the MPs were and the floor crossers like Brison, Keith Martin and Belinda were all PC.
There was not much difference in policy or philosophy than the Liberals although they were not as timid about trying to make positive changes instead of dithering wherever the polls sent them. So we got Free Trade and the GST and the gas tax – the three programs that literally saved our country’s financial ass.
It was well known that the same power brokers that have controlled the Liberals since Trudeau (PowerCorp, Desmarais, Maurice Strong, et al) also controlled the former PC party. The PC party was basically the same backroomers under a different name.
The new Conservative party may have some cross over in some areas of people or policy but they got rid of the PowerCorp et al backroom power mongers.
Now those power mongers are backing Bob Rae and Iggy as it is quite evident that they cannot bribe or comprimise Stephen Harper.
Conservative voters in this country who sought an alternative are the reason the PC party you so gloatingly point your finger at is the reason they were reduced to two seats and the alternative parties became the official opposition.
I have trouble understanding some of my fellow Canadians who STILL sent 100+ Liberals to Ottawa in the face of much more than allegations and innuendo about corruption. And, not one elected Liberal is in jail.
So, my point is – when Conservatives got disenfranchised by the Federal PC we turned our backs and punished them.
Liberals??? The apologise and makes excuses.
That is a pretty big chasm in political integrity and ideology.

I don’t always disagree and when I do, it’s not just for sport. Besides, someone needs to tell them when their logic is flawed.

  4. Let us review, shall we?
The most corrupt administration and government in Canadian history, according to the Auditor-General and the application of a lick of common sense:
Dithers Martin’s Liberals from Quebec. But there are no charges, and no convictions yet. All the judges are Liberals!
The second most corrupt government in Canadian history, according to the AG and a simple smell test and the presence of a Made member of the mafia in cabinet:
Jean Crouton’s Liberals from Quebec. A few charges. But just little fish.
The third most corrupt government in Canadian history:
Myron Baloney’s Progressive Conservatives from Quebec: the most convictions ever in Canadian government history. But all the judges weren’t Liberal yet.
Our new government: not from Quebec. At least, not yet. No charges yet. But we’re supposed to feel bad about them . . . why?
Iberia is probably a Marxist edumacator.

  5. Joe Volpe’s motto and that of the Liberal party is to deny, deflect and defend to the death. Volpe tried to spin his way out of this one today on all the political broadcasts but I don’t think anybody (other than Liberals) bought it…even Don Newman of good old CBC.

  6. I think the New Conservatives have alot more integrity than any other party that comes to memory that has held power. Though inevitably, Ottawa seems to change people, maybe its the power, either way coruption will probably find its way into any government over time. So hopefully they do what they say their going to do early on before their values have been compromised. Harper seems to be on to a good start. I just hope he doesn’t end up selling the rest of us out to Quebec in order to get those votes for a majority! Also if this government goes bad the west is hooped, separation will have to definitely be on the agenda. or God help us.

  7. Volpe was on CPAC tonight saying that he gave the money back because it didn’t look good, though it was legal. Now he is holding the rest of the candidates to his new, higher standard. So, really, he’s taken the high ground in this and this shows what an ethical guy he is.
I think it’s called telling the big lie. It always worked before for the liberals to tell a huge whopper and have the MSM help them out with it.
So Duffy, what about it? Are you going to swallow this one? Are you going to ignore the obvious bullshit? Can you not see that this smells very much like it was illegal? Would having a quick look at the kids bank accounts tell whether this money had been there for months, or if it magically appeared shortly before the donation?
Do you believe that Joe Liar only heard about this yesterday?
Once again Duffy, are you going to help out this lying asshole or are you going to do your duty as a citizen and a journalist?

  8. I like your style, Stan. Call the big man out in the street and see what he’s made of.
Having dined with him, I know he’s made entirely of whipped creme from Mama Theresa’s, the Librano restaurant they all eat at, at government (or CBC — same thing) expense.

  9. What was the name of that Hells Angel? The one that said something about the liberanos? About there corrupt was to much for even the club to deal with?

  10. iberia
I don’t always disagree either. I disagree when I believe I have a valid point to make just like everybody else. Sure, sometimes I am too sarcastic but it is usually to someone begging for it. Then its sport but everyone can see what it is. You can also see when it is not. Right?
I agreed with the majority of conservative bloggers just today on the RCMP being called to investigate a Liberal Senator. I am predictable when it comes to justice. I don’t care who it is, if they have done the crime, they should do the time.
It is interesting to see which people “play” the don’t feed the troll game on me. People who see themselves as individuals, independent thinks, are really, in the end, lemmings. Too bad. It is very interesting though.

  11. OT. Sad to realize that some people who visit this site are so archaic in their thinking that they still believe that old Walt Disney film where the lemmings all run off the cliff and into the sea. Pointless trying to set them straight.

  12. First I thought Volpe should bail, having made himself look a complete twit. But then I thought it would be better for him to stay in, inspiring other leadership hopefuls to sling gobs of mud around the convention hall. Keep the issue alive as symbolic of how the Libranos moral compass operates (if they had one, that is).
I say Volpe should stay in, and the others should go at him hammer and tongs.
I eagerly await Rae and Iggy’s position on these creative financing arrangements.

  13. I like the fact that ( like warf rats) the other Libranos Senators turn on the wounded one…et tu Brute’…dilicious 😉 watching the natural governing mafia of Canada unravel…one scandal a week as long as Harper is in power…there are 13 years of systemic librano theft to deal with….I say why stop at investigating one senator…of they networked with the last Liberal cartel, they’re dirty.

  14. why compare the old conservative party to the reformed one? the old conservatives and liberals are one and the same , notice how they swap ministers and premiers from party to party. Its and eastern power clique formed at the intersection of Bay street and Sussex drive-
I expect the reform party -aka Stephen Harper- to exit this little marriage of convenience and put power back with the people.

  15. Steve,
You only disagree when your marxist ideology is in contention with reality.

What Martin, Chretien, and Mulroney also have in common is the fact that were/are in one way or another involved with Power Corp of quebec. Bob Rae has a brother hooked up with Power Corp so I think he has the best chance to win the lieberal leadership.

  17. Rob. C.
Yeah, I know about that Power Corp. history. You could draw some conclusions about Canada’s role in the world today through the next connections to TotalElfFina, payoffs to Saddam, Louise Arbour, Maurice Strong and Kyoto, etc. etc. etc. The DaVinci code has nothing on this bunch for complex plot.
And I agree about Rae. I actually like Rae, having interviewed him a dozen times. I think he’s not bad for a slightly egomaniacal do-gooder and member of the political parasite class. He’s wrong about most things, of course, being a lefty. But he did reach the proper conclusion after his years in power and nearly destroying ONtario’s economy: “It’s not a question of socialism any more. It’s a question of what kind of capitalism we want.” Or words to that effect.
I think he would be the greatest threat to Harper.

  18. I heard a snippet of Volpe’s interview with Primeau on 630 Ched. She asked him if he really thought that 11 year olds were politically astute enough to make such an informed decision and how many 11 year olds would have that kind of money. His answer was “You’d be surprised”
When recalling the details of this debacle the thumbnail will be that “he returned the money when it was brought to his attention” not that he tried to keep the money until he saw that it was becoming a big deal

  19. Liberals will NEVER change. If you want to know what their current leader is all about just Google the name “Lawrence Metherel”. SHAME!

  20. enough
Marxism has always had trouble with fascism.
Just look at the National Citizens Coalition. They say they are this huge grass roots movement. In fact they are shilling for corporate control of government. They don’t come out and say that but that is the effect of the implementation of their policies. That is Fascism-when a small authoritarian government, not particularly representative of the masses joins with corporate power to “have their way”.
It is no accident that Harper is going about fulfulling the Agenda of the NCC. Looking at their agenda and Harpers platform it is startling how sympatico they are. As usual, most people have been sold a bill of goods. Less=more, nannystate=dynamicfreedom. It is way too simplistic but then it is easy to understand and full of rainbow filled imagery.

  21. Steve, “fascism” has a real meaning. You should feel happy that you have not truly seen it in your time. Look the word up, study its definition and report back.
To even think that any government in western civilizations history has been more corrupt than the Liberal’s of late is just about as partisan as you can get.

  22. Right Mind
give em time. Harper doesn’t have has majority yet. Give him a majority and a few years and then we can count who has benefitted most the masses or corporations. I can tell you the answer now if you want. The pattern is already establishing itself quite firmly in the direction of lessening the influence of Canadians and moving taxes and… laws in the direction of large corporate affluence.
I know you want a simple Harper is of and for the little guy story but that just isnt true. There is no evidence for it.

  23. The difference between liberals and conservatives is simple: When caught in wrongdoing conservatives resign, or are charged or go to jail, and their voters rebel and kick them out. Liberals on the other hand, lie, deny, cover-up, get media spin, and voters in toronto can see no wrong and keep voting for them. Does that mean the 29% who would still vote liberal are all dishonest, hiding something, covering up something, or do they have their hands in the taxpayer cookie jar along with the rest. Makes you wonder.

  24. Steve,
The world is not black and white as you may wish it to be. Believe it or not all of us live somewhere in the grey area. You have been brainwashed into thinking by some severe left wing philosopher that everyone is evil that does not see things your way. I am new here, but I am starting to see why the others do not bother to argue with you as you regurgitate the same non-factual statements repeatedly. I am a member of other blogs and have had great discussions with fellow bloggers that are of every political stripe. With you it does not seem that this is possible, as you do not show proof of anything you say, there is no historical reference to back you up and you continuously go in circles.

  25. new kid,..Thank you.At least someone else here actually GETS IT!
    Have a great evening!

  26. Canadian Observer: Have a good day, yourself. The blogging should be better when we can actually have an intelligent discussion rather than a she said/he said slug fest backed up with no facts, repeated over and over again.
As the Bard once so famously said, “Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind.”

I read a plethora of comments daily with precious little proof. I think because I often have different takes on things because this is a right wing blog and I am not right wing.
I have often given proof when asked. But proof is not sufficient for some. There are two standards.
If I seem to be repeating myself it is because the same issues and prejudices keep coming up.
I merely respond to the same non-factual statements ad nausseum because there are some who still think their prejudice is fact.

  29. Further to above discussions on which Federal party is (or was) the most corrupt:
the old Conservatives : probably mismanaged/stole in the 10’s of millions.
the Liberals : probably mismanaged/stole in the 10’s of billions.
In either case, the public will likely never learn the true extent of the corruption.
the NDP : well now, they’ve never really had the chance to prove just how bad they could be. Hopefully IMO, we’ll never, ever get to find out.
I am also hopefull that the new Conservatives will conduct themselves with much more integrity than the previous governments.
