Who Are You?

A few months ago I asked a question in response to yet another article based on false assumptions about blogging;

Why does mainstream media continue to stereotype political bloggers and our readers as “tech savvy” twenty year olds?

A lenthy comments thread followed, revealing that the majority of readers here fall in the 35 – 50 year age range.
Now there’s a new BlogAds survey (taken in the US in fall of 2005) that concurs with our informal findings.
This overview page provides more detailed breakdown,

  1. Speaking of bloggers, Cherniak was on Michael Coren yesterday.
I was going to make some snide comments about his looks, but it’s his politics that really are the problem.
Speaking of which, disgraceful former MP Carolyn Parrish was on too. One of the other Libs couldn’t hide his distaste for her, and while Akaash Maharaj couldn’t either, he at least did it in a more stylish way.

  2. I’m a THREAT to the mainstream liberal media!!…That’s why I’m tech savvy.

  3. dam, there goes the average.
Im 60 something, and im very savvy, just not tech savvy, lol

  4. Lee, between the two of us, we could be five 20 something bloggers. And an undetermined number of “tech savvy” ones.

  5. I am not quite 60 yet (next month), but I would consider myself “somewhat tech savvy” and a very interested reader in the “blogosphere”.

  6. Never mind the bloggers and blog readers. Who else could conduct a survey in fall of 2006 and have the results already reported except for tech-savvy twenty-year-olds!!

  7. I noticed that too Johnny.
Its amazing what the computer age has done for forecasting

  8. Just an “ancient” 47 year old, who builds his own computers from scratch parts.
I guess the math/physics degree helps, so I fall into the propeller head category. Now where the hell is my beanie?

  10. I’m in my mid fifties, a retired peace officer, live in Saskatchewan and am NOT savvy or politically correct!! Except for my hair “thinning” a bit, I wouldn’t change ANY of that for all the tea in China.
There, … you wormed it outa me!

  11. I’m between 55 and 60 (and everytime I say that second number I gulp; ‘can barely believe I’ve been on the planet this long and don’t feel “old.”)
‘Stopped getting a daily Probe and Fail back in the early ’90s, when I realized it had become a propaganda machine for left-lib-fem-gay politics; my husband and I had two young children at home at the time, and there was barely anything of relevance to us in the P&F; ‘was a subscriber to The National Post till Asper took it over, and then began to feel like the ice flow was getting smaller and smaller and increasingly lonely.
Except for a subscription to The Western Standard I rely on blogs for my news–and watch the CBC, CTV, and TVOntario a few times a week to find out what they’re calling “news.”
