2 Million, Further Thoughts

In view of the traffic milestone on this lowly little amateur blog, I also offer a “thankyou!” to those in mainstream media, who all this week have specifically directed their readers and viewers to “the internet” to view the controversial Mohammed cartoons.
It is reassuring to know that those who have so casually submitted their democratic press freedoms to the rule of Sharia law, are at least willing to cede their subscribers to those who won’t.

  1. If they hang around long enough, they’ll come to the same conclusion the rest of us did… that the MSM is sadly remiss in their coverages, and if one wants to keep current, ‘dis is da place!

  2. Hah! I was going to submit a link to the article where that woman representing some MSM paper or another suggested people go to the internet to view the cartoons. I couldn’t believe it! Newspapers rely on subscribers and readers and there she is telling people to not bother reading her paper! Go to the internet for your news instead!
And I really love that last line Kate! Priceless!

  3. Congrats on the 2 million Kate.
Not sure I should post the rest of this but,..
since the WS is kind of Kate’s boss I hope she will not mind.
    : )
Both the following book chains have pulled the Western Standard but they do sell the Da Vinci code because they don’t mind it offending Christians.

    Mcnally Robinson

How long can a society exist when we accept that any affront makes it ok for a whole group to resort to brigandage?
Plus McNalley Robinson hosts a freedom to read week this month and they are refusing to sell the Western Standard. Can you read the Western Standard there?
They should look up their actions in a dictionary under hypocrisy.
Ps heres hoping you retire some of the “if you want to see them look on the net, MSM types, soon”
I might have come here 2,000,000 times,

  4. To clear up a commonly held misonception – the Western Standard is not “Kate’s boss”, and never has been. The misinformation arises from a brief experiment last year at “full time” blogging for the Shotgun – which I decided wasn’t working. (Due to software problems and time constraints, not editorial differences.)

  5. Slowly but surely, the followers of St. Duranty of the Holy Fishwrap are becoming aware of that annoying little dog nipping at their ankles. It will be amusing to watch them attempt to muzzle that dog as it grows ever bigger, and stronger.
Nice kennel you got running here, Kate. Best wishes for your continued success.

  6. I sent an inquiry to McNally Robinson asking if they had a copy of “the Satanic Verses”. They responded that they had, and they could reserve a copy for me if I so desired. This was my reply:
“What a sad day. You can carry a book whose author had a fatwa issued on his
life for smearing Islam, but you won’t carry an issue of a magazine that has
had the courage to reprint several drawings that were also reprinted in an
Egyptian paper last October. Where was the outrage last year in Egypt or
the middle east. Islamic scholars portrayed Muhammed in manuscripts 100’s
of years ago. Elmasry says the cartoons ‘incite hatred of muslims’, how can
a drawing of a man wearing a turban leading a donkey incite hatred. When
six adult males dressed in black with their faces covered behead 15, 16, and
19 year old schoolgirls in the Philipines in the name of Mohammed simply
because they’re infidels(Christians), I am deeply hurt, and I am incited to
hate Muslims because of it, but I realize they don’t represent all Muslims.
Considering past Islamic scholars have portrayed Mohammed, children are sent
as suicide bombers all in the name of Mohammed, and Elmasry claims everyone
in Israel over 18 is a legitimate target for suicide bombers, why is he
upset over a few drawings. Islam and the middle east countries don’t
separate politics and religion as we do in western countries. Elmasry and
the CIC are claiming an insult to their religion, well freedom of religion,
freedom of the press, and freedom of expression are political ideas, not
religious. If the idea catches on in the middle east countries, who stands
to lose power, the Imans and people like Elmasry would no longer have
political power through religion. It’s unfortunate McNally Robinson has
chosen to cave in to the political pressure of Elmasry and the CIC in the
false belief it is on religious grounds. If western civilization doesn’t
wake up and differentiate between political Islam and religious Islam, the
next thing will be all women in the west required to wear head scarves
because it offends Muslims to see women without a covering on their head,
then it will be burkas. What colour do you prefer for a burka Sarah.
You have lost me as a customer.”
Congrats on hitting 2 million visitors.

  7. LJ I have gift coupons while I’m tempted to cut them up I wonder if I should spend them.
Plus the reason for 99.something percent is found in their religious scriptures.
    PS Kate “Oopsie.”

  8. so the msm is saying… we are sorry but we are too full of crap to publish these cartoons, here’s where you can find people that believe in the free press.

  9. Geez Kate, you just keep on topping one zinger with a better one! And no one more deserving than the cowards in Canadian MSM.
But then, wasn’t Mike Duffy intimidated even by the Libs? And their threat just seemed to be to keep CTV out of any leak loop.
Dare we suggest that Ezra was correct in his assessment that MSM is fearful?
And what of the Canadian booksellers?

  10. Why haven’t any MSM published ALL of the new Iraqi prisoner abuse photos? They write a story about it, describe the photos, but don’t publish ALL of the new photos. Is that self-censorship or is there merely no point in doing so?
Maybe the Western Rag will publish all the photos.

  11. bob: A fair question, but you’re not suggesting even for a microsecond that this story hasn’t been extremely well-covered in MSM?

  12. DrWright “Both the following book chains have pulled the Western Standard but they do sell the Da Vinci code because they don’t mind it offending Christians.”
Maybe if those offended Christians stopped buying it in droves they’d eventually take it off the shelf.
LJ- Good on ya. (That’s a good thing btw)

  13. In the interest of furthering our cause for freedoms of all sorts, maybe we should be committing a massive influx of troops from as many democratic nations as possible for real progress.
Pictures on paper are not going to contribute to all those Iraqis who risked their lives and purple fingers to move to a free and fair way of life. TG
