As for ditching Buzz? I think as the Conservatives look more and more mainstream (center to center right) the Liberals are going to be pushed further and further into the left, thus occupying space that is traditional NDP.
Paul Martins bigest stated word near the end of the election was ‘progressive.’ If that is where the Libs are going, I believe we will see far more of the Buzz thing in the next few years.
How does it apply? Kate is trying to show that NDP’ers shouldn’t complain because the same thing (ie. going for money, power, etc) is occurring in their party. My point is that it’s not the same and that if the best you can say is that it’s happening in other parties too, you really can’t take the higher ground.

I agree with Northern Nut. As the Conservatives move in the mainstream and push the Liberals to the left, we shall see the gradual establishment of the Conservatives as the natural party of government.
The Liberals hold on government in the 20th Century was due principally to their strength in Quebec. At the recent election they collapsed outside of Montreal winning only Hull-Alymer and that only because of the riding’s proximity to Ottawa.

Over the years I’ve noticed that it’s kind of good to have the No Discernable Prospects party in OPPOSITION. They sometimes have some good ideas that are worth pursuing. BUT, NEVER EVER let ’em get into power. God help anyone who does. The couldn’t manage a beer bash in a Molson Brewery (unionized or not). Look at the Fast Ferry Fiasco. Look what 9 years of NDP government did to B.C. Surely no one would be silly enough to vote them into office where there’s actual money to spend.
As for Hargrove, now that the Liberals are out he won’t get his Senate seat and all the perks that go with it. Just as well.
I voted NDP too and I shouted “Buzz Off” with energy. He’s the New Democrat version of David Orchard and Warren Kinsella when it comes to cheering for his party to lose.
Question for NDPers. If MPs are supposed to “dance with the guys who brung us,” why did they prop up a corrupt Liberal government and budget? Federal NDP Leader Jack Layton says he would have liked to see a full debate before the NDP suspended Buzz Hargrove.
Layton says he disagrees with the Ontario NDP’s decision to suspended the Canadian Autoworkers Union President.
The Ontario NDP suspended Hargrove because of complaints that his embrace of Liberal Leader Paul Martin and strategic voting during the election campaign was a violation of the party constitution. via cnews

A B.C. riding is mired in turmoil again as its Liberal Party riding executive resigned to protest the appointment of a candidate by Prime Minister Paul Martin.
“No one likes to lose volunteers,” said Bill Cunningham, the president of the B.C. Liberal Party and the man appointed to carry the Liberal banner in Burnaby-Douglas.
“They’ve been pretty clear about what their motivations have been,” he added.
The 15-member executive cited a lack of democracy and a lack of respect from Martin as the reasons for their actions.
The riding’s nomination had been pursued by Tony Kuo and Tony Lee, both of Chinese descent.
After applying for the right to run in February, their applications were held up by the party.
Cunningham’s nomination papers were approved within two weeks. He is considered a Martin loyalist from the struggle to succeed Jean Chretien.
Cunningham’s appointment to the riding came last week, along with those of union leader Dave Haggart to New Westminster-Coquitlam, and three Alberta candidates.
Three other high-profile B.C. Liberal candidates were previously appointed by Martin: former NDP premier Ujjal Dosanjh, former forestry executive David Emerson and bureaucrat Shirley Chan.
In addition to the Liberal turmoil, Svend Robinson, who had represented the Burnaby riding for 25 consecutive years, announced last month he wouldn’t be running this time after he admitted to having pocketed an expensive ring.
Bill Siskay, Robinson’s constituency assistant, has announced his intention to seek the NDP nomination there. The nomination meeting is scheduled for May 31.
The Conservative Party’s nominee for Burnaby-Douglas is George Drazenovic.
Under the vote-splitting phenomenon, had all the Progressive-Conservative and Canadian Alliance vote gone to a single candidate in the 2000 campaign, that individual would have bested Robinson by 516 votes.

The pathetic thing about this is the poor NDP candidate in Essex didn’t have a chance after Buzz got through preaching to his members. He told them if the NDP did not have a chance at winning in the county then vote Lib. Had they all followed through we would have Queen Susan representing us. As happened people got a bit angry and gave the incumbant Jeff Watson a resounding majority vote. In 2004 he won by 800 this time by 3,000. I couldn’t be happier. I can’t for the life of me understand Comartin and Masse wanting Hardgrove to be exhonerated. The election with that man as spokeman was absolutely ridiculous. I think he should run for the Lib PM. He defintely lost his senate seat.
We should have a pool to see how long these Tories will be in power and how embarassing they’ll be to the rest of Canada. We should compare them to other misguided tory governments of the past. See how they measure up. Are they really that bad??/ Time will tell.

Had it not been for the NDP, the attempted non-confidence vote, ( previous to the election), could have seen some major changes in Ottawa already. Federal NDP Leader Jack Layton says he would have liked to see a full debate before the NDP suspended Buzz Hargrove.
Layton says he disagrees with the Ontario NDP’s decision to suspended the Canadian Autoworkers Union President.
The Ontario NDP suspended Hargrove because of complaints that his embrace of Liberal Leader Paul Martin and strategic voting during the election campaign was a violation of the party constitution. via cnews
I don’t expect much from the cult of unhappines ( the ndp). I will say however they can no longer claim they have the moral high ground. They had no right to claim that in the first place. Silly buggers.

He is angry about David Emerson’s “unprincipled and undemocratic decision,” and yet he was one of the two main organizers running Bill Cunningham’s Burnaby-Douglas 2004 election campaign.
Cunningham was the former president of the Liberal Party of Canada (B.C.) before being UNDEMOCRATICALLY appointed as a candidate by Paul Martin. At that time, 15 Liberals on the Burnaby-Douglas riding executive quit in protest.
Coco didn’t seem to mind that bit of “unprincipled and undemocratic” decision making.

A B.C. riding is mired in turmoil again as its Liberal Party riding executive resigned to protest the appointment of a candidate by Prime Minister Paul Martin.
“No one likes to lose volunteers,” said Bill Cunningham, the president of the B.C. Liberal Party and the man appointed to carry the Liberal banner in Burnaby-Douglas.
“They’ve been pretty clear about what their motivations have been,” he added.
The 15-member executive cited a lack of democracy and a lack of respect from Martin as the reasons for their actions.
The riding’s nomination had been pursued by Tony Kuo and Tony Lee, both of Chinese descent.
After applying for the right to run in February, their applications were held up by the party.
Cunningham’s nomination papers were approved within two weeks. He is considered a Martin loyalist from the struggle to succeed Jean Chretien.
Cunningham’s appointment to the riding came last week, along with those of union leader Dave Haggart to New Westminster-Coquitlam, and three Alberta candidates.
Three other high-profile B.C. Liberal candidates were previously appointed by Martin: former NDP premier Ujjal Dosanjh, former forestry executive David Emerson and bureaucrat Shirley Chan.
In addition to the Liberal turmoil, Svend Robinson, who had represented the Burnaby riding for 25 consecutive years, announced last month he wouldn’t be running this time after he admitted to having pocketed an expensive ring.
Bill Siskay, Robinson’s constituency assistant, has announced his intention to seek the NDP nomination there. The nomination meeting is scheduled for May 31.
The Conservative Party’s nominee for Burnaby-Douglas is George Drazenovic.
Under the vote-splitting phenomenon, had all the Progressive-Conservative and Canadian Alliance vote gone to a single candidate in the 2000 campaign, that individual would have bested Robinson by 516 votes.

The pathetic thing about this is the poor NDP candidate in Essex didn’t have a chance after Buzz got through preaching to his members. He told them if the NDP did not have a chance at winning in the county then vote Lib. Had they all followed through we would have Queen Susan representing us. As happened people got a bit angry and gave the incumbant Jeff Watson a resounding majority vote. In 2004 he won by 800 this time by 3,000. I couldn’t be happier. I can’t for the life of me understand Comartin and Masse wanting Hardgrove to be exhonerated. The election with that man as spokeman was absolutely ridiculous. I think he should run for the Lib PM. He defintely lost his senate seat.
We should have a pool to see how long these Tories will be in power and how embarassing they’ll be to the rest of Canada. We should compare them to other misguided tory governments of the past. See how they measure up. Are they really that bad??/ Time will tell.
How uterally ignorent of the ONTARIO NDP to make a decision for all of Canada about a National issue. Ontario thinks what they say is by definition Canadian, that it comes from Ontario then it is obviously the National or canadian position. Had it not been for the NDP, the attempted non-confidence vote, ( previous to the election), could have seen some major changes in Ottawa already. Of the NDP, the impression I get from them, is: We don’t care how, or where, you get the money from, and we don’t care what you spend it on, so long as we get a piece of it. (The dippers are glibs- same thing- different skin.)

The 21st century terrorist battlefield is different from the linear battlescapes of the 20th century.
