And for our faux liberal friends on the left, who stubbornly refuse to “get it”, Muslim dissident Ibn Warraq warns;
A democracy cannot survive long without freedom of expression, the freedom to argue, to dissent, even to insult and offend. It is a freedom sorely lacking in the Islamic world, and without it Islam will remain unassailed in its dogmatic, fanatical, medieval fortress; ossified, totalitarian and intolerant. Without this fundamental freedom, Islam will continue to stifle thought, human rights, individuality; originality and truth.
Unless, we show some solidarity, unashamed, noisy, public solidarity with the Danish cartoonists, then the forces that are trying to impose on the Free West a totalitarian ideology will have won; the Islamization of Europe will have begun in earnest. Do not apologize.

ECCO shoes are wonderful. I bought a pair this weekend. It’s been some years since I wore them, but they are even better than before. Expensive but worth it for more than one reason.
Long live Queen Margarethe II!
Notice how the women of Europe (Margarethe II, Angela Merkel, Orianna Fallaci) have more balls than the men these days?
Anyone else share the suspicion that things may come to a head very soon? I’m speaking of the clash of Western civilization with Islam on the outside and Leftism on the inside.
I sure hope, at least, that we don’t just roll over and go back to sleep this time.
“Islam will remain unassailed in its dogmatic, fanatical, medieval fortress; ossified, totalitarian and intolerant. Without this fundamental freedom, Islam will continue to stifle thought, human rights, individuality; originality and truth.”
Exchange “Communism” for “islam” and it reads 100% . . . just another doomed orthodoxy.
Fidel would appreciate the truth of it.

Of more interest to me is how Denmark imported this problem so we don’t repeat their mistakes.
WL Mackenzie – it wasn’t a mistake on the part of the Danes. It is a gross error on the part of Muslims. They reject freedom – as the article says: the freedom to argue, to dissent, even to insult and offend. Furthermore, they consider that ALL people, everywhere in the world, must live within their strictures and their dogma.
Their rules state that one may not make an image of their ‘holy figures’. Fine – that’s their agenda, but, it only applies to Muslims. The error of the Islamic world is to consider that their dogma must apply to everyone in the world – not only Muslims.
Their rejection of freedom of thought, the freedom and necessity to critique, to argue, to dissent, to mock …ought to be confined to their isolationism and their primitive mindset. They have no right to insist that we live their way.
We can avoid importing this problem, WLMR. We can do what they say.
Kate, please add Faxe beer to your list.

I followed the link to spiegel online and I think he misses the point.
Muslims do want to integrate with the west. That’s the real reason why the radicals are so pissed off and trying to create a rift.
Last night, for the second night running, CTV showed a glimpse of the cartoons. I don’t have much truck with CTV news, however, I am very surprised that they have shown this much nerve and have sent them a word or two of support and encouragement to show more for longer.
ET – they don’t care what we think. Their dogma only asks that they tolerate us so long as we submit.
I think all the riots are supremely stupid. Any person who reacts to a cartoon by rioting in the streets is a radical who doesn’t deserve any consideration.
Having said that, I don’t think my buying butter, overpriced Ecco shoes or Danish Bacon (in Canada I would buy Danish bacon??????) is going to do anything. It’s laughable to think that I’m supporting free speech by buying lego.
Muslim Anti-Cartoon Clashes Turn Deadly

Afghan security forces opened fire on demonstrators Monday, leaving at least four dead, as increasingly violent protests erupted around the world over published caricatures of Islam’s Prophet Muhammad. European and Muslim politicians pleaded for calm.
The worst of the violence was outside Bagram, the main U.S. base in Afghanistan, with Afghan police firing on some 2,000 protesters as they tried to break into the heavily guarded facility, said Kabir Ahmed, the local government chief.
Two demonstrators were killed and five were injured, while eight police also were hurt, he said. No U.S. troops were involved in the clashes, Ahmed said.
Lebanon, meanwhile, apologized to Denmark a day after thousands of rampaging Muslim demonstrators set fire to the building housing the Danish mission in Beirut to protest the series of cartoons satirizing Islam’s holiest figure.
The European Union issued stern reminders to 18 Muslim countries that they are obliged under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations to protect foreign embassies, and Austria which now holds the EU Council presidency, reported calling in a top representative of the Organization of the Islamic Conference to express concerns for the safety of diplomatic missions.
The prime ministers of Spain and Turkey issued a Christian-Muslim appeal for calm, saying “we shall all be the losers if we fail to immediately defuse this situation.”
But Turkey’s Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul said media freedoms cannot be limitless and that hostility against Muslims was replacing anti-Semitism in the West. >>>

#1 son(18) is in France right now with 4 of his Danish buddies, just going to send him an e-mail reminding him to keep his head down and perhaps forego the dansk clothing he likes to wear, as well as suggest they use english rather than danish when conversing.
Whatta world eh?
This entire thing has ceased being about cartoons. It is a widening of the war we are already engaged in. The radicals wish to destroy us. The only choices we have are to fight or be destroyed. There is nothing pretty in all of this. Many innocents will become casualties on both sides. However, we did not pick this fight. People who are emotionally retarded with a medieval outlook on the world fear our culture and its freedoms. With ever evolving and improving means of communication we become harder and harder to shut out. As a result they attack. Those who are instigating this are those who have the most to lose. The dictatorial Imam and Mullahs who use will be out of jobs if our western freedoms and democracy continues to spread. They have demonstrated their depravity in their own countries with their own laws. Stoning, amputation and mutilation, honour killings, and rape as punishment. Now they are directing this evil outwards — at us. We must look to our past now. We do not give in to the threats of petty evil men. This savagery is evil and must be destroyed. The enemy has made it clear that there is to be no negotiation. We are left with no option but to use the only language these awful men understand. We must speak to them with overwhelming and irresistible force.
“They want to test our feelings,” protester Mawli Abdul Qahar Abu Israra told the BBC.
“They want to know whether Muslims are extremists or not. Death to them and to their newspapers,” he said.
Which really just about says it all.

The problem was imported to solve a problem that’s the same for most of the West.
Not enough baby Danes, Scots, Italians..etc.
It’s important to support Canadians who understand that it takes more than providing a loving home for a Golden Retriever..etc to secure the future of our country.
Achieving that understanding, unfortunately comes a bit too late in life for many in our culture.
Now excuse me, time for kindergarten pick if I could only remember where I set down my car keys!
Why don’t you all just petition for Canada’s north to be turned over to Denmark too since they want it?

“In 1979, JYSK opened the first store in Aarhus, Denmark.”
I guess I better buy something ELSE there and risk some Carlsberg beer.
There are a number of differences between us and them, including the fact that Canadians and the Muslim faith have completely different standards of speech and expression; a different orientation to religion and iconography; a completely different composition of religions and denominations; and also a completely different situation in the balance between state and press power vis-a-vis the “offended” party. They need to realize this and be prepared to be offended.
Maybe the proper comparison for the muslim rioting is the killings at abortion clinics by christian fundamentalists. But this level of violence is nuts.
Boycotts I could understand. Peaceful protesting I could understand. But when waving signs around saying Europe’s got its 9/11 coming, torching embassies, etc, all understanding and tolerance fades away.
IMO Europe will accept that it is OK to insult Christians and Jews but not Muslims.
The Islamic laws regarding dhimmies and the Islamic ummah (sp?)are accepted in many countries.
Time (just like an uninformed left winger) IS on their side.
Mix it with fear and it is obvious that the WOT will be a very long war.
I think there is a little racism in all of this,
hiding behind freedom of expression.
I wonder how much freedom holocaust deniers have.
The problem, the way I see it, is Islam.
Mohammed was nothing more then evil.
With his six year old wife, how can you argue that he was not a
Pedophile. Even in a time when this was banned by society, he didnt care.
He murdered and tortured his way into power and kept homosexual slaves.
This is why Islam cant deal with any form of questioning,
It might lead to the truth. The west also contributes to the misinformation
by calling them extremists and are afraid to tell anyone what Islamic religion
truly is.
Support Denmark and freedom of speech: http://www.petitiononline.com/danmark/petition.html
We should boycott Islamic activities.
List of things to boycott:
1) beating our wives
2) burn flags
3) perform female circumcisms
4) burning down embassies
They don’t make anything over there so it will be difficult to boycott products. Time to start looking for alternative energy sources!
If you really want to hurt the oil rich Arab countries, take away their Filipino slave labour and recall all technical ex-pats. The lights would go out in the Muslim world.
The bottom line is they need the West as much as we need their oil. Once we don’t need their oil, their wealth will blow away in the sand.
The cartoons do not in themselves promote hatred of Muslims or Islam, but rather are criticizing those Muslims who use Islam (and thus Mohammed) as a justification for murderous violence. And that I think is fair comment.
If some Muslims are nonetheless outraged (I can see their taking offence even in the face of a legitimate critique) then I think that illustrates their unwillingness to reflect more fully on the hideous uses to which some members of their faith are putting that faith. That is a much greater offence than the cartoons. Failure to appreciate that indicates a sad lack of perspecive.
That reminds me of the unwillingess of many on the left in the West honestly to examine the Soviet Union and the horrors it committed; their attitude was “pas d’ennemis gauche”. A misplaced solidarity.

‘Fair-Weather Free-Speech Friends
http://www.boston.com/news/globe/editorial_opinion/editorials/articles/2006/02/04/forms_of_intolerance/
The Boston Globe wades into the Danish cartoon controversy by urging more sensitivity toward Muslims:
Freedom of expression is not the only value at issue in the conflict provoked by a Danish newspaper’s publication of cartoons satirizing Islam’s founding prophet, Mohammed. . . .
The original decision of the Danish paper, Jyllands-Posten, to solicit and publish a dozen cartoons of the Muslim prophet was less a blow against censorship than what The Economist called a schoolboy prank. . . .
Publishing the cartoons reflects an obtuse refusal to accept the profound meaning for a billion Muslims of Islam’s prohibition against any pictorial representation of the prophet. Depicting Mohammed wearing a turban in the form of a bomb with a sputtering fuse is no less hurtful to most Muslims than Nazi caricatures of Jews or Ku Klux Klan caricatures of blacks are to those victims of intolerance.
Blogger Eugene Volokh
http://volokh.com/posts/1139073913.shtml
wondered if the Globe was equally solicitous of the feelings of Christians offended by various government-sponsored artworks in the U.S. It would appear not. Volokh digs up an editorial from 1999 praising a judge who ordered New York City not to withhold funding for a museum that displayed “a painting of a black Virgin Mary spotted with elephant dung,” as well as two editorials from 1990 denouncing then-Sen. Jesse Helms and others who had criticized the National Endowment for the Arts over artworks including Andres Serrano’s “Piss Christ.”
These earlier editorials, Volokh writes, make “eminently plausible arguments.” What they do not do is acknowledge that Christians have any reason to find the depictions of Jesus and Mary “hurtful.”..’

Funny Kate at how a little Hate Mongering has made the Danes your new best friend.
I have suggested to SWMBO (Mrs. Doubting) that Danish goods should be on her shopping list. Not that I like Danish beer, but I will buy some, just as I bought a copy of “Satanic Verses” some years ago to make a statement of where I stood on an important issue. (I hope the beer is better than the book.)
AFAIK, the cartoons were an experiment in a Western setting. Some imams added some of their own cartoons to the set, (“sexed it up”, as the English say) and stirred up an obscure situation. This offends my sense of fair play, but I won’t be burning any mosques, or calling for the beheading of any Moslems. Unfortunately, no sense of humor, and making sure that everyone toes the Islamic line seems to be the face of the future.

Thanks for the link.
From their report:
“Natural increase among the highest in the G8”
Well, well what a nice group to use for comparison.
“- three countries (Germany, Italy and the Russian Federation) currently have more deaths than births”
–(Canada)With a fertility rate of 1.5 children per woman…., is ranked fourth among the G8 countries,..”
Great! we’re ranked fourth in a group that has 7 losers out of 8.
“- The United States was the only country in the group whose fertility rate was at the replacement level of 2.1 children per woman.
– Canadian population was largely and increasingly due to its net international migration.
– Canadian net international migration rate was the highest of any G8 country from 1994 to 2004.”

I don’t know if anyone mentioned it, but JYSK (The bed, bath, etc… store chain) is also a danish company the last time I checked.

The Islamic Pandoras Box has been opened and no amount of energy spent trying to push the true face of Islam back in will be successful.
The inherent violence, intolerance, and inbred anger of Islam is now out for all to see.
The world is watching and the handful of terrorists who have high-jacked a peaceful religion doesnt pass the laugh test any longer.
An Islamic mob of over 500 marched through the streets of Knightsbridge, England, chanting, Massacre those who insult Islam! and issued warnings of further terror attacks by screaming, “Britain, you will pay, 7/7 on its way.”… >>>

If the artist of the danish cartoons had wanted confirmation of the point of his drawing the islamic world has provided it. The ironic humour here is tremendous, the only thing that could prove his point more eloquently is if these rioters began burning down embassies and suicide bom…. oh wait they already are doing that. It seems as though the TRUE Face of Islam is revealed; the true face of islam is one of hatred fear and totalitarianism. It is most certainly not the face of education peace and tolerance that I have had pandered before me on numerous occasions, perhaps at one time in the distant past it was. I suspect however that those attributes were more attributable to the host culture than the religion per se. The assimilation of the islamic world’s cultures within the arab ideal however has erased much of this “Ideal of Islam” and replaced it with their own dark crusade.

Anybody have enough Lego pieces lying around to make a bust of Moo-ham-ed? Extra points if he is depicted hauling back on a Tuborg…
Doubting Thomas: You might want to buy a copy of Irshad Manji’s _The Trouble With Islam Today_ subtitled: A Wake-up Call for Honesty and Change.
Her website is: http://www.muslim-refusenik.com/
She almost didn’t write the book, because she knew that as a lesbian, many people would dismiss her argument without even reading it. Questioning and discussion used to be allowed in Islam.
Irshad has made her book available for free dowloading in Arabic and Urdu. This scares the powers of Islam so much that they now block access to her website in their countries. Their previous method was to kill the bookstore owners if they stocked her book.
It’s interesting to me that a Canadian lesbian is tackling the big problem in Islam, and that no one else would.
We should constantly point out the lack of vocal condemnation of terrorist acts by the “average Muslim.”
Their attitude towards women being covered-up in public shows that Islam considers it’s men to be weak minded and completely unable to control their basic primal urges. That’s one serious slam towards their own men. I wonder when they’ll put that together?
Finally! A reasonable voice in the muslim world!! I think Ibn Warraq has it right, and ALL muslims should open their mind AND eyes to the path that the clerics are leading them. It seems that in general “they” are a violent people… atleast they are in nonwestern countries. Sure there are a few token ones in the west calling for beheadings etc but I think in general those in western countries see where their brethern are headed and are not inclined to walk on the same path. Kudos to the clear thinkers like Ibn Warraq. As I said earlier, clear thinking wins out over unbridled passion every time.
Dan
“Did you not read the whole thing or are you working to become a Master Spin Meister (MSM)?”
Yes Dan I read the whole, thing more than once. I guess I was trying to be brief.
Dan
“DrWright, I’m afraid that you are wrong.”
Not,
How am I being a Master spin Meister I said our population is growing by .39 a year and it is. Not my fault that stats can uses the G8 for comparison. And the 2.1 number is relative in the old days they might draw the line at 30 I now know 2 couples in their 40’s expecting.
Canada’s population largely increased because of our influx of unneeded immigrants true. However .39 per domestic and an unneeded .61% imports yes I’ll get into why. Together they are growing at 1% a year. So we get 50% more growth from bringing in people we don’t need on the presumption that our population is
SHRINKING,
However it isn’t it’s just growing slowly. But it does let them say largely. The fact is if our internal pop is already growing it’s looney to say we need our excessive immigration because our population is shrinking, which libs want to be 1% per year. Before finding 750,000 Just because they want Europeans to be in the minority in 30 years.
Mark Collins laid out explicitly how well this works for liberal voting blocks right after the election.
When Europe was devastated by the black plague the population came back and rebuilt but in Canada if it doesn’t grow fast enough we say we’ll put the euro descended types in the minority in a few years. Imagine how different Europe would have been if they had excessive immigration then. Perhaps a few European enclaves in Scotland.
Dan don’t forget that when we bring in some family plan lout whose in their 50’s, 60’s or 70’s and they kick the bucket they count against the domestic number not the number of imports that’s only measured against exports. So by having high immigration we have a higher death rate and complain if our birth rate can’t keep up? Course you read that right?
Like the study says in 2025 we MIGHT have more deaths than births. And it depends on a lot of things if we give large tax breaks etc for people to have children. Whereas now the people who get the most from the government are on welfare. Or we might not or if we do have less our population might drop to what it is today or maybe it will drop to the number it will grow to in 2019 35 or 38 million? If it drops people could afford houses in Toronto, they might not need all the new Nuke power plants or the highways or the urban sprawl.
Might have more births than deaths, might.
Turkey and Egypt used to be a Christian countries Dan and are no longer, think about that.
Do we want to go down that path too? Would you move to Turkey or Syria? Or should we not ask questions like that and sleepwalk forward to whatever Dutch fate awaits us. Is that what you want Dan?
This government study is better than anything I could make up.
Immigrants are less likely to file taxes.
http://www.cic.gc.ca/ENGLISH/research/papers/education/education-r.html
“The incidence of personal income tax filing for Canadians 20 years of age and over in 1995 was roughly 91%. The comparable figure for immigrants 18 years of age and over as captured in the IMDB was 57%.”
So they don’t pay taxes that’ll fire the economy,
http://www.cic.gc.ca/ENGLISH/research/papers/education/education-h.html
“14.3% of immigrant taxfilers landed since 1980 reported welfare benefits as an income source in 1995, as compared to a 9.6% incidence for all Canadians.”
so people here 15 years are 50% more likely to be on welfare, no wonder we need government housing.
http://www.cic.gc.ca/ENGLISH/research/papers/education/education-e.html
“12% to 18% reported unemployment insurance benefits”
up to 18% sounds real high.
“Immigrants with 0 to 9 years of schooling were less likely to report employment earnings but more likely to declare unemployment insurance benefits or welfare payments when compared to the all immigrant taxfiler averages.”
Dan can you imagine going for a job
Employer: Well what kind of schooling do you have?
Import: grade 0.
Employer: ??!!!
http://www.cic.gc.ca/ENGLISH/research/papers/education/education-c.html
“In 1995, those with 0 to 9 years of education accounted for 18%”
18% of the adults we bring in have no high school?
Insane I tell you these are adults over 18 all ready for welfare.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Dan like the recent Fraser institute report says it’s common knowledge that economically since we went from European immigration to anyone but Europeans they haven’t done well. How can common knowledge be so invisible?
Why do I want more people to compete with who get affirmative action, hiring quotas and obliterate Canadian culture via political correctness. You can’t even say Christmas in my daughters school. A national holiday! Is this how they teach citizenship and Canadian culture by obliterating it. We are sleepwalking to that doom sooner than we think.
If we needed them there would be no need for affirmative action programs would there? Some decent countries will not let foreigners apply for jobs until they run them for local people first. I wish in the name of multiculturalism we adopted that value.
Very interesting point that was made by ET “but, it only applies to Muslims. The error of the Islamic world is to consider that their dogma must apply to everyone in the world – not only Muslims.”
I am not married according to their customs or they to mine and the list goes on.

Who knew that a cartoon image of Mohammed could so infuriate the Muslim world. Glad to see the boycott antis are tightening their focus. That is a good thing, the Danes shouldn’t carry responsibilty for what is a basic human ( in the western world anyway) right. Freedom of speech. As for the history buffs, if they are going to keep writing history as the deaths continue it won’t bother me , I can’t read the posts through as it is. I can remember– where were you when Kennedy was shot, I thought the 7 shuttle astonauts of NASA are o.k. for the next generation But I cannot but wonder why the WTC disaster and ongoing wars with Muslims are not a more prevelant theme when a published set of cartoons has ignited- no change that to- increased the call for the blood of infidels. The fear and anger of 9/11, the deaths then and since. What do you take seriously. Your freedom of speech, enjoyment of Carlsberg or a person’s lack of a world perspective on the history of Islam. Call me whatever, tell me where to go (please) but isn’t there a war on against Muslims?
