  1. I told coworkers about the ITScam unfolding in the blogosphere long before it hit MSM. They are awestruck now by the depth of this story. They are now fully converted to the blogosphere, not willing to accept the MSM filters and lag any longer.
That fact is, that basically, fundamentally, to be perfectly clear about this, this one story is as demonstrative of the value of the blogosphere in democracy as one could hope for.
Forget the MSM wannabe blogs. This is where its at.

  2. From the stroy in the Star Pheonix that Kate highlighted this morning, I believe blogs have become central to this election because political party spin doctors can’t control them.
“The blogosphere is causing another challenge for modern politics. Blogs are difficult to manipulate.
Since the 1970s, every political party and leader has used staff and paid consultants to spin the media in order to get out the party’s message in a positive way.
And, sad to say from experience, most of the Canadian media can be spun like a kid’s cheap top. Just look at what passed for political journalism in the last three federal election campaigns.
The blogosphere, on the other hand, is too disparate and large to be influenced by party spin doctors who cannot get to thousands of bloggers who spend hours researching, compiling, comparing and linking political news stories.
One of my favourite political blogs is http://www.smalldeadanimals.com, which is written in Saskatchewan and read every day by thousands of people around North America.”
This article also doesn’t have nice things to say about the MSM!
BTW…spelling Jeff “Geoff” is just worng!

  3. Kate, while Jeff, er Geoff is there can you ask him to find his ass with both hands?? Standard MSM competency test, or it should be.

  4. Tell Goof, er Geoff that I have completely stopped listening to CBC THREE YEARS AGO! And I have vowed to NEVER listen to them again.
All my information comes from the web.

  5. Dear Edward:
Are you calling me an idiot? and then Doug an idiot?
How does not listening (or watching) to this CBC thing qualify for the illustrious idiot club. What if I only watch HNC and not the LLL news. Am I only a partial idiot? What about the kids cartoons in the morning? My kids only watch the Family Channel. Do they qualify as well?
    Inquiring minds want to know.
or was this a drive by?

  6. Hey Jeff/Geoff whatever I’m looking for a leading role in the CBC hit series “Monty Python and the Search for the Holy Grail”.
I do a killer rendition of the Lumberjack song while humming through my nose..
    cheers
    tom

  7. Elections canada now going after the Options file. Don Newman just read it on Politics.

  8. Kate: Ask Geoff if he has any clue what this means:
“Troll, troll, troll your boat….clean up on aisle 11.”

  9. To bad the blogshere was not around in the 70’s when Truduea had the media wrapped around his finger. One can only speculate how it may have impacted on the evolution of Canada and it’s Charter.

  10. Kate….Why dos`nt he come out with the Public Works Relocation Scam story dug up by Conservative Life? Is it too hot to handle? I just faxed it today to the CPC to make sure they were aware…i would have thought we would see something in the MSM by now.

  11. Found this on All things Canadian:
Lots of Martin and CSL details on Wiki. I didn’t even know this piece of trivia:
His declaration of assets upon entering Parliament included ownership of dozens of companies around the world, thirty-three ships, office buildings, apartment blocks and movie theatres. In 2004 Forbes.com estimated Martin’s personal wealth at $225,000,000 (USD).

  12. I don’t have any special insider info on Reloscam – but if I were running a campaign, I’d be hanging back with it until current scandals are yesterday’s headlines. A little closer to the 23rd, in other words.

  13. Geoffery is pronounced Joffery
Jeffery is pronounced Jeffery .. it’s simple
This reminds me of the elitist flute playing musician who call himself a floutist rather than a flutist.
My question is always .. do you play a flout or a flute?
Pronounciations can really mess things up. Take this story about a sad man drinking in a bar .. he opened a bag and took out a tiny piano set it on the bar top and tiny piano player only a foot tall stepped out and played up a storm.
The Bartender said .. wow where’d get that from.
The man then related a story whereby he found a brass lamp and while cleaning a Geni popped free and granted him one wish.
The bar tender said what did you ask for?
The man said a 12 inch penus.
    Hey .. it’s Friday right?

  14. Kate,
I’ve been blog surfing and I’ve found lots of comments on various sites where commenters have said they have notified certain people in the MSM. Candace, for example, I believe has contacted CTV’s David Akin. Getting barraged the way they are, this reloscam thing can’t stay hidden much longer.

  15. O/T Yahooo!!!!! The CTV Reports The US SEC is investigating the IT Scandal!!!!!!!!!! Bernie Ebbers, PMPM and Conrad Black all in the same cell!!!!!!!! There is a God!!!!

  16. Does anyone know Stephen Harper’s personal wealth? I did a google search and came up empty.

  17. rtemis, I do apologize for the missing comma. No, it’s this statement that makes Doug an idiot: “All my information comes from the web.”

  18. It is good that an independent organization with the ability and resources to get to the bottom of this fiasco is now involved. It is embarrassingly pathetic that it has to be a foreign organization.

    SEC probes income trust trading
No further information will be forthcoming, U.S. securities regulator tells NDP MP
    Jan. 6, 2006. 07:35 PM
    CANADIAN PRESS
OTTAWA The American securities regulator is taking “very seriously” complaints of insider trading involving Finance Minister Ralph Goodale’s November announcement on income trusts.

  20. I agree Missing Link, sadly under the Liberal watch we have become an international embarassment in ways to numerous to list. This SEC development might light a fire under the asses of Queens Cowboys, nothing like the footsteps of the G-Men coming up behind them!!
Before I go too far I better clarify, typically the SEC will neither confirm or deny an investigation. What they have done is respond in writing to the NDP finance critic that they are seriously considering the allegations around the IT scandal. Gotta go, more to come on Duffy.

  21. I’m working hard for my local Conservative candidate, but I’m going to ask him where the party stands on the ‘gag law’ initated by the Liberal’s a few years back. Would a Harper gov’t renounce it?
Your excellent blog, along with others, is to me a direct response to a people who will not be gagged. Paul Martin’s ‘protection of rights’ is an insane joke, including the $1.75 we give every party for each vote. Let em’ earn it like everybody else.
The writers of blogs (not the least of which is Kate) have blown me away in their investigative powers, incisiveness, clarity and the calibre of respondent’s comments.
They are one of the major stories of this election. Rock on.

  22. BRE-X , Nortel, Bernie Ebbers the milkman from Edmonton, Ralph Goodale. all of them thought they were entitled to their entitlements too.
we have become the BayStreetBanana Republic – this is no republic though . but BayStreetBanana Oligarchy doesnt ring well.
remember when the Libs were going to name Mt. Logan – Mount Trudeau???( the Stones already had)
What ever became of that , —can we find a large abyss to name after him??
