Oh! Not Mo Again!

Good news – Debbye is back;

[S]candal seems to be becoming Canada’s chief industry, as Bill takes note of yet another Canadian boondoggle which is finally being subjected to scrutiny: Audit of $2.9 billion TPC program expands and (oh my aching head) Paul Martin’s mentor, Maurice Strong who was also implicated in OFF, is involved. Again.

Bill Strong’s post is here.

  1. Jeebus, how many times can the words “Strong” and “scandal” appear together? There seems to be an infinate supply of examples.
But I suppose this is just more business as usual for the Liberals.

  2. Wow! I just put up a post on this very matter! And lo and behold, I mosey back on over to SDA and find that, after all, I’m not alone yet again! I checked here before making my post and found nothing, yet Kate was hard at work as I wrote my own…
Wow! The blognet works at the speed of light!
Anyway, here’s my post, freshly uploaded just a minute ago:

This is surrealistic and exciting. Do we in the blognet share a collective consciousness?

  3. Does Blogspot send pingbacks? The best way to signal that you’ve written on the same topic is to link back to my post, or update it, and send a trackback.

  4. Uhh… you know, pretty much all that went over my head, Kate. Is there a link to a site that defines and explains how those concepts work?
After all, the Sentinel just started up on Sept. 11…
So much to learn… it’s like I’m doing homework all over again… but it’s more fun this way! 🙂

  5. Your government is one big pyramid scam. Google “ponzi scheme” and see if that doesn’t sound like the way The People’s business is conducted in Canada. As a lover of freedom, that just makes me sad as hell for you.

  6. Tom Penn is spot on. Here is the largest, biggest, bestest scamdal perpetrated on Zanada by AdScam Martin, son of Chretien; Librano$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

  7. An audit will never really get at the true dirt in TPC – Bombardier splits up large projects into 20 projects, the first 19 ‘fail’, Bombardier is only even theroetically on the hook for the last 5%.
They then don’t even deign to repay that portion, but it isn’t a problem, because projects 12-17 were managed by a former civil servant, the guy who funded projects 1-9. The local Quebec Liberal MP has taken his cut, as every one on the project has attended the $200 fundraisers as private individuals.
One more election, and I will simply not be able to stand it here anymore, off to Calgary.

  8. On February 15, 2004, Member of Parliament John Williams, chairman of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts, said in regard to the $250 million Quebec debacle, “This is a simple money-laundering scheme organized on a grand scale. This is criminal activity as far as I can see. When we start marching people off to jail because they have filled their pockets with taxpayers’ funds illegally, then taxpayers will start to see that justice is being done.”
Add to that the $2 billion gun registry fiasco, which is a public-sector contracting fraud on a grand scale. The $2 billion HRDC boondoggle was a massive public-sector labour fraud. The $42 billion unemployment pogey surplus is the result of running a protection racket. The Canada Pension Plan is a pyramid scheme. The government controls alcohol, tobacco, narcotics, gambling, prostitution, and guns. Taxation is implemented by extortion.
Yes, that’s right, our government is a classic organized crime ring. They have justice in their back pocket, and they have infiltrated the police. These are not warm, fuzzy, old-school liberals. These are mad power-hungry politicians and bureaucrats pining for a fascist leader.

  10. What about the $1B Millenium Scholarship Fund? And all the billions squirrelled away in other “foundations”, like the “innovation” one, all beyond the reach of AG Fraser? Why cannot we know what’s happened to OUR money?
Just wait ’till Mr. Harper has a look at those things from the inside as PM… for the Liberal party, then, the shit’ll really hit the fan…

  11. Strong, Martin, CIDA & etc. The Origin of the Librano$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
    By Marci McDonald, Walrus Magazine>>>
Six months after Martin began his corporate apprenticeship at Power, Strong left to work for Martin Sr., by then Lester Pearson’s Minister of External Affairs. For Strong, it was the plum post he’d long been lobbying for: director-general of External Aid. He promptly transformed that obscure backwater into the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA)the first step on his route to becoming a backroom global powerbroker.
Still, Strong has never been far from his protg’s side. Over the years, Martin has been a shareholder in at least two of Strong’s companies, including the now-defunct Cordex Petroleums, formerly known as Baca Resources. But Strong’s chief influence has been in shaping the trajectory of Martin’s careerbusiness first, politics later, the eye on the prize always. “My basic advice to him was, ‘Paul, don’t try to ride two horses at once,'” Strong says. When it came time to move to the next horse, Strong was waiting to give him the nod at the starting gate. When Martin was ready to throw in the political towel after Chrtien made clear he was sticking around for another election, Strong invited the finance minister to his log retreat in the Kawarthas for a weekend of cheerleading. “I said, ‘Paul, you’ve got a big investment in public life,'” Strong recounts. “‘You’ve come this far, you should stay in there.'” >>> more

  12. The National Review in 1997, near the end of an article about Strong, describes that in 1979 a safe-bet Liberal candidate was yanked so that Strong could run. But a month before the election, he pulled out, with the explanation being given that he was involved in too many complicated business dealings. But, the article concluded, “…maybe he just decided that for a man who wants power, elections are an unnecessary obstacle”.

  13. When Debbye mentioned the complacency of the news media as being one of the impediments to honest government, I have to think that complacency is too mild a word. Suppose I neglect to mention to you that your house is being robbed behind your back, as I am talking to you on your lawn. Would it be accurate to describe my non-reaction as merely complacent? And what if I happened also to be an associate of the perp and/or his organization?
It stretches credulity to imagine that broadcasters and publishers and editors and reporters are completely unaware of all the things that they so comprehensively and specifically avoid covering. They get the wire feeds, and yet it’s almost a sure bet that the CP report on TPC and Industry Canada will get little or no coverage on CTV, or Global, or the Globe and Mail. It might get mentioned in passing, on the way to an America-bashing, but it’s more likely to be buried.
If money-laundering, kickbacks and massive misappropriation involving taxpayer money are universally considered less newsworthy than the issue of who Avril Lavigne is dating, are journalists and editors not actively complicit in the corruption of our national institutions, and in the growth of international and intergovernmental crime? Do journalists not have professional responsibilities?
If police officers looked away when they saw a hold-up, or if postal workers tossed mail into the garbage, or if firemen looked the other way and whistled as they drove past a fire, their conduct would not be accepted by their professional peers; but in Canadian journalism, such active negligence has become the golden path. Complete amateurs on the blogosphere now outperform the MSM in every important way. Hopefully, more and more people will tune in to that fact. Because you just know that Canadians won’t be hearing Sandi Rinaldo on the air tomorrow sighing that billions of taxpayer dollars have once again passed through indeterminate middlemen, here and abroad, without proper documentation, or that such behaviour are part of the deeply-embedded culture which is promoted by the Liberal Party of Canada. We’ll hear instead about a two-headed kitten in Oakville, and about the three steps to proper toenail health.

  14. Brian Mulroney may not have been a ‘popular’ prime minister but his comments, coming so late in the day by way of Newmans book, nail the press and the media. He is right on when he said his friends were ‘cronies’ and everything he ever did was always leaped on by the media and a negative spin put on it and that when Chretien was pm , he got a free ride by the media. We saw that unfold for over ten years and it continues today. It is much more than diverting our attention with 3 step toe nail health and two headed kittens.(hilarious way to put it) It is a concerted effort to assist a party to continue to govern by fraud and theft. The media then become accomplices, sometimes BEFORE the fact and most times before, during and after!
They tear Stephen Harper a new one if he dares wear a cowboy hat and ignore how foolish Martin looks at Canada Day ceremonies… among more grievous omissions… every word written about Harper is done in terms of it being a foregone conclusion that anything the man does is doomed to failure and pretend that the disgrace the liberal party is is actually a legitimate government.

  15. If Canada manages to remain a truly free country in the next fifty years, I suspect historians will write that Corporate Canadian Mainstream media in the Chretien / Martin era were the enablers of one of the most corrupt administration in Canadian history up to that time.
The co-opting of the civil service, politicizing of the RCMP and stacking the Supreme court with activist left leaning judiciary, all taking place under the fawning gaze of a “lickspittle’ Fourth Estate.
    Sad.

  16. Yeah Steve, the TV spots were pointed out by someone here on SDA a while back.
I think they are merely a background theme. Things the Liberals can’t raise hell about. Who’s against kids..eh?
The real platform is usally only revealed only shortly before a run to the polling booth.
I recently read where three european countries, Germany included, are closing in on elections and leaders in all three are proposing really bold policies such as a simplified flat tax system, where it takes ten minutes to do your taxes.
Harper and the CPC must not provide the MSM with any thread that could unravel the CPC before the real campaign begins.
When the Canadian MSM’s best paying customer is the Liberal Party and a good chunk of the MSM shareholder pool is Liberal, then it’s no wonder our news tends to lean leftward.
Good thing there are always a percentage of Liberals who are just as sick as we are about what the backslapper crowd is doing in Ottawa.
If it wern’t for them, the sidebar stories buried in side-columns at page A16 to A19 that Maz2 and others point us to may never have appeared at all.
As ever, this thread on SDA is absorbing and shows a wide awareness of several ongoing scams not slowed one iota by Gomery’s actions.
I wish an EFFECTIVE modus operandi or two would come to mind for slowing and stopping this damn CSL Ship of Scams. 73s TG

  17. Librano scandal certainly gets people interested. When we smell blood, it’s an opportunity to draw more and more… yep, let’s open the Librano wounds way further… let ’em drain out like a great white’s din-dins…

  18. First time responding to a blog. Great stuff.
Listening to PMPM at the UN… embarrassing!
I like Australia’s approach to UN involvements.
    W/R to today’s Canada:
Can anyone tell me what todays Canada stands for?
I perform a mental quiz every now and again: If Canada were threatened, would I defend it (militarily, i.e. possibly sacrifice life and liberty)? Two years ago I reached my personal “Turning Point” and ever since the answer has been a resounding NO.
Conservative Party will not get elected until it becomes “Liberal Lite”. Whats the point.
    Thats my rant. Cheers.
    Mike
    Republic of Alberta

  19. Mike K opined: “Conservative Party will not get elected until it becomes “Liberal Lite”. ”
Mike, based upon what observations? Polls? Media opinion?
Don’t be so sure. Remember, Ernie Eves took the PCs of Ont to the so-called “centre”, whatever the hell that is, and was beaten soundly by an actual Liberal party. I assure you, the Tories do NOT have to go any further left, as to do so would be to abandon its raison d’etre, which is to provide the badly needed governing alternative Canadians really want. Don’t believe the media, the Libranos or any lefties you may know. I don’t, as I learned the hard way over many years that they don’t know whereof they speak.
What does “going left” mean anyway? What? Think about it. Think about communism and totalitarianism. Think about the destruction of an entire economy in blind, brainless service of the long-ago soundly-discredited philosophy of Marxism.
Forget about Liberal-liteism. We’re ok, just right where we are, if not absolutely perfect (who is, anyway?).

  20. Response to Canadian Sentinel.
Thank you for responding and my apologies for not being very clear. I am no socialist, far from it.
I have a couple of pehaps uninformed opinions:
    -Canada, east of the Alberta border, is socialist;
    -Canada, west of the Alberta border, is… I give up?;
-Canada’s federal hierarchy will always be determined by the Toronto Stars greater reading populace (socialists).
I just don’t see any substantive federal political change coming in my lifetime other than our continual sickening slide to the Left.
I suppose I come off as being a defeatist, I however, like to call myself a realist (some may argue whiner).
    All the best.
    Mike, RoA

  21. Mike K, of course I didn’t think you’re socialist, and I did get the sarcasm wrt the Tories needing to go Liblite. I understand the feeling as does anyone like us (yes, we’re actually on the same side, regardless of geographical loc’n- I’m an NBer but no leftist).
I don’t blame you for the way you feel. I myself not too long ago felt the same way. But I soon realized that such pessimism and near-defeatism was literally going to be my undoing, especially as I could never have fit into moonie society without going completely out of my mind.
It’s best to be a realist. But it can also help you a helluva lot to optimistically take whatever action you can in order to help effect the needed change in this bizarrely diverse federation to make it work not only for oneself, but for everyone as well, so they’ll not feel the need to attack one another, like Ottawa trying to get its hands on Alberta’s rightful property, Quebec holding the ROC for ransom and the Atlantic perpetually holding out its hand for spare change, etc, etc…
Do not ever let yourself be defeatist. It will not help you feel better. I know; trust me. Get behind the Conservative Party of Canada like I have and do something you can. It is not hopeless at this point; it only feels that way. Remember, the left demonstrates the self-destructiveness of allowing emotion to rule, rather than realistic logic and helpful optimism.

  22. TPC Program Fraud – what does it take?

Are there any investigative journalists left in Canada? This situation has been ongoing for a long time now. The second phase of the audit has been proceeding since August of last year, in secrecy. The Liberals favourite tactic. (H/T to Conservative Li…
