  1. It’s Pat O’Brien, with a freaking “e.”
Really, how hard is it to read a report and then spell a name properly?

  2. It’s as easy as _cutting and pasting_ it from a report, which is what I did. But thanks anyway. I am quite capable of generating these typos on my own, so I do appreciate it when people point them out.
    Usually.

  3. Holy smokes poochy weighs in.
Breaking news: Say goodbye to Gurmant.
AC incident will be last straw.

  4. O’Brien has morals? I suppose this is a start, but it’s too bad that he didn’t feel the need to express moral outrage over his former party’s theft of hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars.
Still, I say good for him for showing some spine.

  5. Hmmmm…. obviously his support was purchased. Soon, Mr. ObriEn will release HIS tape, in which Harper offers him either a cabinet post or a senate seat in 2 to 4 months. Whats that you say… Harper never approached him, has no appointment power? How can that be? What would (really) make a person cross the floor, anyway?
    sc/off
Hey ujall… did Pat “go out on a high principal, go out on a high principal”
Can’t WWWAAAIIITTT for the cbc spin on this one. cbc news has just accused Good Mr. Iron Man of being a “Air India” type-bomber, by giving a package to people in vancover to give to someone in ottawa. the “corporation” made sure to point out that “the content has not been idenified yet”
Maybe it mas boxes of more (altered) tapes

  6. Sorry Sean,
A man with spine doesn’t talk about leaving the corrupt and immoral Liberal party, then change his mind, then change his mind again.
A man with spine would have walked months ago.
    Pat O’Brien: Man of Guilt?

  7. Obrien admits to Peter Van Dusen that if left no choice he will support no confidence to stop same sex marriage.
    Martin’s nightmare continues.

  8. Dammit wonderdog, lighten up!
So she had a spelling mistake, big deal, happens all the time. What the hell’s wrong with you?

  9. Y’all wonder why there’s so many trolls out, it’s cause there doing damage control on this story. They also don’t want you to find out that 4 more might vote against the budget over the SSM issue.
    Harper..Harper..no one cooler
    Gonna beat Martin
    Back in the sewer..
    Ya!

  10. Well things are getting more interesting thats for sure. GG is on stress leave now after an incident at Air Canada. But Pat O’Brien is saying that he will do whatever it takes to stop the SSM legislation and a number of liberals will join him, if the PM doesnt stall the legislation. Then Gilles Duceppe wants an election so he can pick up 60 seats in quebec. After the election he will resign and take over the PQ. The idea being with all those seats federally and him in charge provincially, the province will be ripe for separation. So what next one wonders??

  11. Hopefully, total collapse and straight into an election. Get this over with…. have to plan for the future.

  12. They want to ram SSM through cause Brisson(or whatever his name is) will have a hissy fit and get a run in his pantyhose if it doesn’t go through.

  13. Heard O’Brien on a radio interview discussing SSM a few months back. Remembered thinking “this guy sounds principled and spin free. What the heck is he doing in the Liberal party?”
Will the Liberals arrogant attempt to bulldoze SSM through parliament initiate a sequence of events that removes them from office? Words would fail but “exquisite” would be close.

  14. The reason the Liberals are willing to wait through the summer, and the winter, and the spring, is that they know they will be lucky to win 115 seats in the next election, let alone the 135 they now hold.
Kate, I guess you should be careful cutting and pasting from the MSM. Can’t depend on them for anything these days. Isn’t is interesting though how some idiot troll can find nothing really important to contribute but is so happy when he spots a little spelling mistake. Small things catch the attention of small minds I guess.

  15. Pat O’Brien hasn’t ruled out bringing down the government if it will stop C-38. The Tories already have somebody in his riding to run against him, but he doesn’t care if this is the end of the road, he says. I’m hoping he will convince other like-mind Libs to pull the plug. They have absolutely nothing to lose. Harper is looking great on this stress leave thing. He’s the one who summoned Grewal to Ottawa on the w/e, ordering him to bring original tapes. Thus, the sequence of events that led to stress leave. Poor guy, though. Really, I suspect he’s just not used to dealing with sleaze and thought that taping these bastards would be enough. He forgot about a complicit media. He was out-manipulated, and sadly, didn’t have a media savvy Tory PR machine to help him out. Luckily, Martin is looking worse and worse. Or maybe it’s just that finally, Librano$ are seeing him for who he really is. Except Tony Valeri, of course. And where’s Volpe, one wonders?

  17. Kate’s just rearranging the tapes again. Now what she’s saying means NOTHING!

  18. yup rearranging the tapes again Kate. It doesn’t matter if the conversation was taped, the content is crucial.
To “Maybe”, may be you should get lost.

  19. Family Revolt Within Liberals
    Josh Pringle
    Monday, June 6, 2005
Pat O’Brien’s divorce from the Liberal Party is triggering a family revolt within the caucus.
A Toronto Liberal M-P says several colleagues are considering voting against their government’s budget in order to kill the same-sex marriage bill.
Jim Karygiannis says at least three Liberals have suggested they could vote against the budget.
The House of Commons is expected to vote on the federal Liberals budget next week.
Karygiannis says they’re considering the drastic move as a way of killing the same-sex marriage legislation by toppling the minority government.
O’Brien says he’ll sit as an Independent and will do whatever it takes to destroy the same-sex marriage bill.

  20. So what do you think of this

And even Conservatives, who last month appeared determined to bring a non-confidence motion and trigger an election, reacted with skepticism and caution.
B.C. MP Randy White said there’s “zero chance” of an election campaign starting this month.
His Conservative colleague Gary Lunn was less emphatic, given the shifting allegiances of what are now four Independent MPs in a deadlocked Commons.
“There are some different dynamics at play, for sure,” said Lunn.
“We’ve got to make sure (the government) doesn’t fall by accident.”
What do you mean MAKE SURE IT DOESN’T FALL BY ACCIDENT??????

  21. Maybe’s a troll that lurks in the shadows and usually only comes around when everyones gone. I think “Maybe” is looking to convert from the darkside but his/her/it approach is way off.

  22. Greg,
I think the conservatives have been warned to be very cautious in there wording. I think he’s being over cautious

  23. See Belinda its not that com-pli-ca-ted
    G & M poll
When an MP strongly disagrees with party policy, what should he or she do?
Resign their seat in the House of Commons
    402 votes (23 %)
Sit in the House as an independent
    1204 votes (69 %)
    Join another party
    133 votes (8 %)
    Total Votes: 1739

  24. Nice to see that O’Brien has his priorities in order: the opposition to samesex marriage is obviously more important than the country being run by criminals.

  25. After losing O’Brien, Martin wil welcome Grewal with open arms. Tapes? No big deal. Aircanada? Not a problem.
Grewal can vote, and that is ALL THAT MATTERS. Cabinet… here we come.
Mark my words, ’cause these days..nothing surprises me anymore.

  26. dave, he was originally talking of jumping ship when Gomery was beginning to smell like a corpse in a dumpster on a hot day. Because of (a) corruption and (b) SSM. PMPM made promises around SSM, plus some assurances about being “mad as hell” etc etc etc. Which is why he remained in caucus.
Well, he’s had time to see how sincere PMPM was about being “mad as hell.” And he’s seen what happened to his attempts to make the debate around SSM a national one (he wanted, I believe, the committee or portions thereof to hold ‘town halls’ in various cities etc. or something like that).
So he’s now jumped ship. Should he have left a couple of months ago? Quite possibly, but I think he really believed he could make a difference in the SSM debate. There’s a reason the truism “it’s easier to change from within than without” exists.

  27. I am just pleased that Mr. O’Brien has enough spine to do what is right. Have no doubt that he is going to feel some discomfort from the LIEberals at his “betrayal” which I hope will result in others joining him too.
Interesting, in the “soundoff” section over at Canada.com they have refused to print any of my comments the past few weeks. They only let two through previously but none at all now. I write pretty much the same way as here so other than being opinionated I can’t see that I have offended greatly. There are plenty of others who have come across far worse so I don’t get it. This happen to anyone else?
Maybe the comments to the editors about being biased got me banned? ;->

  28. Did you watch him stumble through that expression? At the beginning he omitted the “not” and had to come back to it. Freudian slip. O’Brien spent too many years as a Liberal, probably, and could not get the expression straight.
ANyway, I am not all that optimistic. Why are conservatives treating him like a hero? He cut a deal back in May, Martin did not fulfil it, and now O’Brien left. That’s it.
Nothing has changed in the policies of Martin’s government regarding SSM. Their deal changed. O’Brien was bought with rewards in the future but the payment did not arrive. No fur!
As an independent he could be bought again, at a higher price, no doubt. Considering how the Martinistas operate, they will probably buy him back. It’s just that his price went up.

  29. Anne – they published one of mine on the Montreal Gazette, and that’s it. cbc & ctv are the same.
Somebody somewhere is sifting through, making sure the “balance” is in place. Too bad the lib side has hidden weights.
In my fantasies, the CPC get in and make Coyne pres of CBC….
hmm, mental note to self…GET A LIFE!
Very sad when fantasies are political.

  30. Understandable that the Gliberanoes are considering remaining in the house for the summer- they probably still have a lot of files to shred, and besides- imagine coming back afterwards and finding your seat occupied by someone else. (They could always voluntarily remove their snouts from the public trough and find something in the private sector that is within their abilities, like: “Do you want fries with that?”

  31. Good editorial in today’s Toronto Sun on pro-Liberal media bias. Since the Sun is well-read in Toronto and surrounding areas, it might finally drill some sense into those folks who continue to regard the Librano$ as the only party. Maybe they just don’t realize they are being had.

  32. With respect, SSM is important, but Gov. General Clarkson’s duty to dissolve parliament and call an election; It’s the main priority.
The Libscammers are holding on to power by way of fraud and I say it is wrong. You know it, and I know it.
Anyone who disagrees only has to prove it’s legitimate or admit to being an apathetic, don’t make me vote now, Canadian.
We can deal with SSM when we are sure Canada is not headed for the sewer.
I don’t want to enrage too many people who have a real stake in SSM. I know it’s important to you.
Don’t think me arrogant because I have the simple solution. Any politico would say at this point. “In my humble opinion” Hetrosexual joining, [children likely], would be called Marraige.
Any same sex marraige, [children not likely]
would be called *Blessed Bond*. So Scott above, could marry his car or his brother in law, and as no *minis* are likely, they would be in state sanctioned *Blessed Bond*.
One special group would really like the *Bond* part.
First though, let’s get on with clean-up. pu-leeze.
73s TonyGuitar [You know you want to.]

  33. I live in his area. Not his riding, but his area. He announced that he would vote against ssm during election last year. He was told by Martin that he would be allowed a free vote on ssm. Shockingly, he was lied to. I know it’s hard to believe… I say good job. On the local news, no one was angry for his leaving despite the msm trying to make it sound like people were mad. Go Pat!! I think he is great for going independent rather than totally crossing right now. It makes it better for people who voted for him because he was the Lib. candidate. i wouldn’t be surprised if he crosses for the election. I also wouldn’t be surprised if he won it!

  34. Read at Neale News this morning that the disgruntled libs met and hashed out what they were going to do over their disenchantment with the ssm bill and Martin’s lying to them about it.
Did they conclude that on principle they would leave the party and sit as indies like O’Brien did?
They hashed out that “it wouldn’t matter because if an election was held and another government got in, no matter what stripe, the bill would be passed by them.”
Is this really how out of touch with reality these folks are?
If so, I think they need a good dose of it as soon as can be arranged for them!

  35. And GG taking stress leave?
Is it any wonder the way the press and the libs have hounded the man?
Put up jobs about ‘tampering’ with the tape. Hiring has been and ne’er do wells to announce that the tapes have ‘definitely’ been altered when they have not had the chance to hear the originals whatsoever.
Just the wording you know and the focus.
Make gg look like an idiot at best and a criminal at worst and what do you know: focus OFF the two who should be hounded out of office and the pm right along with them.
But the msm, you see, must maintain ‘balance’ so they can have idiot sticks with moving mouths to chatter away about this endlessly while the man goes squirreley with the media blitz designed to destroy any and all opposition to outright criminal behaviour, theft of democracy and malfeaseance by continuing to govern when we all know this is an illegitimate government without mandate to govern the way they have been since 4, count em, FOUR non-confidence votes in the House.
Still, they walk around like they own the place and as long as the media hawk their line ” Canadians don’t want an election” ” Canadians want parliament to work” – which of course they do, but with legitimacy, fools.
As long as the media continues in this way they are also complicit with and work hand in hand with criminal government activity that will do nothing but bring this country to it’s knees.
And where the hell is Harper and the Conservatives on this? – Get vocal. Get loud and get moving. Geez!

  36. If one is decent and in politics there is only one way to conduct oneself: Like George W. Bush.
Be nice. Be vocal. Be on the move talking to the people and have a Karl Rove for God’s sake.
Anybody put through a call to him yet?
Hired David Frum or Mark Steyn?
    If not , why not?
You’ve got a country to save you Conservatives. Start acting like it.

  37. Bang on Snowbunnie.
If they think they’re going to play their unity card at the last minute, they deserve to lose.
The CPC better have a big lead going into the last 10 days if they are going to have a chance.
By the time an election is called, Paulie Librano will have been recently “vindicated” by Gomery and the MSM will hit him again with all of the “scary”, “hidden agenda”, “redneck backbencher” stories he can handle.
If the election starts and Harper hasn’t already convinced Ontario that Quebec will leave if the Libranos win again… then it’s over.
He might as well quit right then because he’s going into that war with no friends. Murphy’s minions in the MSM will cut him a new one, same as last time.
The CPC can’t afford to waste the summer. The separatists are already wetting themselves in anticipation of the next referendum, thanks to the Libranos.
The fuse toward a big ‘yes’ vote has already been lit. Another Liberal win will merely add more TNT to the bomb. Ontario needs to know this, and I think you’re right on in saying that we need someone like Frum to lead the troops.
