“Knaves grow rich and the good men are destroyed”

A letter to David Frum;

“I work with serving US soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq. These are, for the most part, wonderful human beings: bright, articulate, honest and possess a keen sense of morality, fair-play, and an unerring sense of honour and duty (one of my students was badly wounded in Iraq last year, but he’s right back at soldiering again).
“Then, I compare these soldiers to the alleged political leaders of Canada – and I find it embarrassing to the point that I feel like I am going to be ill. The lying, the cheating, the swindling, and the shear gutless heap of human immorality that has ensconced itself in the role of leadership enrages me and every other patriotic Canadian I know.

  1. Trite couple of paragraphs from David Frum. The same could be said of American politicians esp. chicken hawks including Bush, Cheney et al. For that matter any international soldier including British, Australian and yes even Canadian demonstrate more authentic sense of honour and duty than most politicians. One could always count on Frum for a bit of fatuous nationalism.

  2. Team Canada to our nation will always be a group of spoiled overpaid hockey players. Therefore our citizens don’t look to the federal government to show others anything except how to pass the puck. Hoping or expecting anything different is a two minute minor penalty for illegal use of morals and values.

  3. Cet,
    Couldn’t agree more. He should just be grateful he’s
    overseas and be done with it
    I love that phrase ” I have cut some sentences and phrases to protect his privacy”

  4. As an American ( who likes Canadians very much ) it seems that Canada is going thru some of the same scandals we suffered through in the ’70’s. Anybody remember the 70’s? The Canadian bloggers are onto Paul Martin and his shenanigans big time which is going to start changing the Canadian political landscape. Probably for the good. Your press and politicians are as big a buttheads as ours. A pox on all of ’em. By the way, really enjoy this website!

  5. One fundamental difference between the average Canadian Liberal politician and the average American Republican (since these are the parties currently holding power) is that a far greater proportion of American politicans who have actually served in the military.
    The same can be said of the average citizen, too.

  6. Kate:
    Typical U.S. Republican members of Congress believe in “limited government”, personal responsibility, a strong national defense, and homeland security. You correctly note some members of Congress have military experience – although the number of elected military veterans are far lower than in previous decades when being a veteran was a huge plus in getting elected.
    Canada’s Federal Liberal MPs believe in “political expediency”. The bucks stop here!

  7. Canadian politicians don’t believe in any thing but their fat indexed pensions which you the tax payer will be honored to pay pay pay ad nauseum.

  8. Needleboy,
    Political expediency is a pretty “grey” term (maybe Kate knows its’ meaning after her conversion to the dark side). If by political expediency you mean institute and enforce policy to perpetuate power over our wallets and minds ad infinitum, then I’m in total agreement.
