Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Canadian Election Roundup
From the Canadians on my blogroll – small dead animals: Post Mortem and Damian Penny: I feel like such a rube…
Cool can you get a tan through this stuff? 🙂
There is also, believe it or not, also “elastic” concrete.
Some professor makes springs (automobile sized) of the stuff. (saw the lecture) boing! boing!
Obviously not as good as spring steel, and too expensive for most of the things people have thought to use it for, but it’s pretty interesting what can be done with a basic composite material like concrete when you apply material science to it.
Incidentally, that reminds me of transparent aluminum from Star Trek.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transparent_aluminum
Note: it’s probably impossible to produce a transparent substance that contains aluminum and retains more “aluminum” properties than “transparent” properties. The physical property that causes aluminum (and all metals) to reflect light, the free electrons “sea”, is also what makes metals malleable and ductile.
Kelvin beat me to the punch.
I was telling my wife about transparent aluminum just the other day.
This is going to be extremely cool! It’ll be fantastic in the warmer climes where they dont insulate, but I’m afrain we’ll only be seeing it indoors in rather exotic applications, like passive solar walls and as an “amusement” in shi-shi clubs and such.

Beating the Commissar to the punch at something.
