70 Replies to “Syria Air War Day 1”

  1. They said if I didn’t support Trump that we’d end up in an illegal war in Syria. They were right.

    1. What an odd fantasy life you have,… the US has been involved in some way shape or form almost since the current conflict started in 2011.

I bet it would have worked out splendidly if Mr Obama had just drawn one more red line.

        1. Yep, right on cue you join Obama’s moving narrative that he NEVER said anything about a RED line. Please ignore all that videotape, and your own eyes and ears. Self delusion is a sad thing to witness.

        2. Jesus, go back to your first year Uni class with your logical fallacy bullshit. And grow up, too.

    2. UnMe: “[W]e’d end up in an illegal war in Syria.”

      Please define “illegal”.

Under whose laws exactly? Who will be “arresting” Trump, May and Macron? And under what authority?

  2. Quote from Army.ca: https://army.ca/forums/index.php/topic,19326.1825.html

Mind you, not even a week ago (and after the latest chemical weapon attack), the UN stepped up to appoint Syria as head of the Conference on Chemical and Nuclear Weapons Disarmament. As noted by the Director of the NGO ‘UN Watch,’ “having the Syrian regime of Bashar al-Assad preside over global chemical and nuclear weapons disarmament will be like putting a serial rapist in charge of a women’s shelter.”

    1. … and I expect the UN has appointed Assad Chairman of their “Human Rights Commission” as well.

  3. Another joins the ranks of who don’t understand the need to punish use of WMDs, nor the accompanying doctrine of deterrence.

Assuming of course, the Syrians did attack Douma with chemical weapons, assumed again, to be chlorine.

If this was an air attack, presumably with barrel bombs, then it cannot be a rebel false flag, since neither they nor other “forces’ have aircraft. They do likely have chemical weapon’s tipped artillery shells.

There’s lots of evidence of sarin tipped artillery shells used as IEDs in the area. But, if this was an air attack with chemical weapons, then were done here.

Proliferation of chemical weapons (poor man’s nukes) cannot be tolerated because it opens up a weaponized Pandora’s box.

It is also argued it can lower the threshold for nuclear weapons, the king of WMDs. Think of a large scale WMD attack by a state or terrorists. The use of chemical weapons must be punished severely at all times.

Just make sure you’ve punished the right people.

Of course the Iranians are there too. Oh darn, don’t have chemical weapons, going right for nukes in their WMD chase.

If Syria did the attack, then I support this action.

    1. Yes, make sure you punish the right people. One point if yours is technically incorrect. The gas cylinders alleged to have been used as the chlorine delivery vehicle in the Duma attack do not have to be dropped from a helicopter.

The rebels fire shorter versions of these gas canisters loaded with explosives and nails from a device called the hell cannon. A larger bore hell cannon could launch these re-purposed gas cylinders.

One of chlorine bombs has clearly been placed after the fact in the Duma incident so my guess is both attack sites were faked by the rebels.

      1. “One of chlorine bombs has clearly been placed after the fact in the Duma incident so my guess is both attack sites were faked by the rebels” Do you have evidence of this?

Given it’s sketchy to use chemical tipped artillery to begin with – there’s no evidence the Syrian rebels have used these shells for anything but IEDs, without success I might add, and the suspect capability of “hell cannons” in this regard – I cannot support your theory, unless, again you have evidence of these chemical canisters being deployed.

Aircraft leave a trail. The balance of probabilities is not on your side; we will see as this developments.

I am still awaiting proof though.

        https://www.bellingcat.com/news/mena/2015/08/21/hell-cannons-from-minor-nuisance-to-major-threat-the-evolution-of-syrian-opposition-siege-artillery/

        1. Yes … all that matters to me is PROOF (that can be revealed without compromising methods). Yesterday, I read that BLOOD TESTS of victims revealed both chlorine and “nerve Agents”. Then later in the day … just chlorine was revealed by “blood tests” performed by “someone”, “somewhere”, to “somebody”. Sorry, call me a skeptic, but I demand evidence. Believable evidence. And no, I am not “backing” Assad or Russia. Don’t try that line of crap.

        2. “Do you have evidence of this?”
Yes, the photo of the alleged chlorine bomb on the roof shows a hole punched in the concrete, and the cylinder laying nose first partially in the hole, mostly out. However the diameter of the hole in the concrete appears to be double the diameter of the gas cylinder, so why didn’t it go through the hole it allegedly made? And why is the hole so much bigger than the cylinder? The video isn’t clear but I think the rebels are keeping the cylinder from falling into the hole by a piece of square tubing across the hole under the cylinder valve or remnants thereof.

The other notable fact is that, while the nose of the cylinder is burned, it appears to suffer no noticeable deformation. These bombs are made of what I’m guessing are MAPP gas welding cylinders (400 psi), so they are low pressure, like propane tanks and have thin gauge metal compared to the high pressure tanks (+2000 psi) like oxygen is stored in. Anyway if this type of cylinder hit concrete after being dropped from 3000 m by a helicopter, it would show extensive deformation. The whole scene is a propaganda setup and a badly done one at that.

“again you have evidence of these chemical canisters being deployed…”

Don’t expect the rebels to video these chlorine bombs being deployed by hell cannon, that would be rather foolish on their part if they intended to hide the fact that they can be ground deployed. I think the cage on the second Douma chlorine bomb (the one shown on the bed) is evidence of it’s intent to be launched by hell cannon since the cage resembles the cages that hold fins and go on the outside of the cannon barrel seen in some hell cannon designs.

      2. and those facilities that got destroyed were also rebel owned. If nothing else, this could convince ASSad that he should have gotten rid of ALL chem sh*t. Kerry should be sent ovewr there to verify that things are good now, that ASSad will not build more chem bombs. You see, it doesn’t matter who done the deed, ASSad had stuff he should not have had

    2. I’ve seen this notion that allowing chemical weapons attacks will lead to proliferation and bigger WMD attacks many times now and without a shred of logical argumentation.

      1. The 9-11 attack was viewed with the same probability. All it takes is ONE dirty nuke, or sarin attack in YOUR neighborhood … to alter the supreme confidence in your comfort

        1. Today’s logical fallacy is ‘argumentum ad 9/11’.

Still haven’t made the case that letting Assad kill people with chemical weapons will lead to more proliferation/attacks on us.

      2. unthing, ewe did know that sadam had a fully functional nuke lab in 2003 didn’t you. I didn’t think so. You see a$$hole, with your limited knowledge and comprehension skills, most things are beyond you!

    3. SHamrock, the whole thing was a lie, just like the Salisbury “gas attack”.

    4. If you are going to kill people does it really make a difference whether you put them in cages and burn, saw their heads off by the hundreds and broadcast it on the internet or gas them? I say it doesn’t. Assuming the narrative is true, and I have my doubts, the people who were gassed had it coming.

If we are going to fight ISIS, and fight the people who are trying to fight ISIS, maybe we should just come home and mind our own business.

  4. Trump lays out non-interventionist U.S. military policy

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (Reuters) – President-elect Donald Trump laid out a U.S. military policy on Tuesday that would avoid interventions in foreign conflicts and instead focus heavily on defeating the Islamic State militancy.

“We will stop racing to topple foreign regimes that we know nothing about, that we shouldn’t be involved with,” Trump said. “Instead, our focus must be on defeating terrorism and destroying ISIS, and we will.”

Trump’s rhetoric was similar to what he said during the election campaign when he railed against the war in Iraq.

  5. If our intellectual betters weren’t so stupid, we’d have to assume that they were doing this to us on purpose.

A few million more illiterate welfare dregs soon to hit western shores, again.

BTW, the wonderful “nations” of the Socialist European Union, including fakexit are driving forces for war in the ME, as they were with Libya including current arms and logistics support for Saudi Arabia’s atrocities in Yeman.

It’s easy to understand the Progressives Lefts totalitarian desire and hypocritical support for the slaughter of “little brown people” along with financial support for the worlds globalist arms dealers. That’s why they’re called Useful Idiots. Unfortunately It’s not as easy to accept Trumps role in the matter, “I’ve changed my position” is not a clever sell to his voting base.

  6. Funny how the MSM portrays this as Trump personally attacking Syria, even tho the UK and France were involved. If Obama had been at the helm, it would have been “showing leadership of an international coalition”.
Just so long as no one has the illusion that we are supporting the “good guys”. If the ME experiences so far have taught the West only one thing, it should be that there are no genuinely good guys present in these internal conflicts.

  7. ….Not convinced that war or any of its substitutes helps the US!
“War, what is it good for, absolutely nothing!”

  8. There still is no evidence of an actual chemical attack. Doctors in the area say they treated no one suffering from symptoms of such an attack.
And, really, who would think that blowing up a chemical weapons storage facility would be a good idea? Let’s just disperse the toxins all over shall we.
However, war is money, and things were settling down in Syria…peace doesn’t pay the MIC, so an action that warrants a military response must be created.
Furthermore a report just released by an independent Swiss lab that analyzed the Skripal toxin concluded it came from the US, the UK, or other NATO member and was not a Novichok at all.
News outlets though are on the war against Syria bandwagon and no one hears about this.
More and more I find I believe what the Russians say to be closer to the truth than any western government.

    1. “More and more I find I believe what the Russians say to be closer to the truth than any western government.”

Ya. The Russians have always been trustworthy. And they actually didn’t dope their athletes.

Skepticism is a healthy view whenever military action is taken until all the facts are made public. But I’m not going to jump to the enemy’s side if that doesn’t happen.

      1. I did not say I believe everything the Russians say. Although I do not believe anything the western msm says.

What makes the Russians “the enemy?”
Why do you see them as “the enemy?”
Why do we have to maintain their status as our “enemy?”
Who is the ultimate aggressor here?

We’ve been conditioned to see the Soviet Union and by extension Russia as our enemy. It serves the purposes of our governments to keep it that way.
I am not interested in serving the purposes of our government.
I do not see Russia as an enemy; I see that our governments have gone to considerable lengths to try and convince us otherwise.

        1. And yet it is the LEFT who is now “conditioned” to see Russia and Putin as the bogeyman. The same LEFT who CHEERED the Russian Soviets …

Nobody has been “conditioned”. Well … maybe YOU …

          1. “And yet it is the LEFT who is now “conditioned” to see Russia and Putin as the bogeyman. The same LEFT who CHEERED the Russian Soviets …”

That’s pretty much what I’m getting at. Questioning why people who profess to be conservative have a stick up their backside when it comes to Russia. It’s like Russia MUST be awful. Because someone told me so.

          2. “It’s like Russia MUST be awful. ”

That is because the drunken Siberian whore of nations is awful. Anything else you need clarified?

        2. ha idiot, the USSR taking about 11% of Finland, part od the Ukraine, and the Crimea peninsula makes Russia a victim. People like really are stupid. The western LLSM are all lefties, in case you are aware, so lying is their forte

    2. “Let’s just disperse the toxins all over shall we.”

Yes absolutely. Can’t think of a downside.

  9. Like many of you, I’m skeptical about the utility of this. (See Libya.)

There is no ‘utility’ to it other than breaking the power of the UN to run the show.
This is the breaking, although not broken yet, of the great horn of the he goat written in Daniel 8:8 and 11:21. Both the same event. What comes next is the interesting part, the little horn…

Attack On Syria Would Be Attack On Entire U.N. System’

    1. “Attack On Syria Would Be Attack On Entire U.N. System”

And you’re saying it like it would be a bad thing?

    1. “Trudeau has previously ruled out any Canadian participation in military action.”

      Thank God.

  10. I must be getting cynical in my old age. I don’t believe a thing the intelligence agencies tell me any more and when the media reports the intelligence agencies findings I believe it even less. One of the biggest failures of PM Harper was he went along with the international intelligence agencies and participated in the Libya debacle. One of the low points in his otherwise stellar stint as PM.

  11. Utility of this?

I hope they kill as many Hezbollah and Iranians as possible. A week long campaign would be perfect.

President Donald Trump ran on a platform of “America First” non-interventionism, promising to bring US troops home from the Middle East and to back away from other lower-profile military entanglements.

Instead, the president has presided over an unprecedented increase in military spending, authorized a small troop surge in Afghanistan and now launched his second round of airstrikes – much to the delight of the mainstream media establishment Trump claims to despise.

As we pointed out earlier, even John McCain, who has seized every opportunity to spite Trump and his allies, praised the president for taking action against the Assad regime.

    1. Yes yes and if they did not dance they would have to explain why aren’t they dancing to the security apparatus.

    2. What? Just dancing? … no sweets being tossed to parade-goers? Not very Islamist. I guess Russia is dragging the savages forward into the 16th century

  13. Syria/Russia/Iran were testing the resolve of the Trump, and North Korea was watching….What may, or may not have been a chemical attack is not reverent….The world believed Syria was still using WMD…. Now NK /China can be assured they have nowhere to Hide

It should be noted that the Syrian civil war state was not changed…The final battle still favors Syria’s Government

  14. What gas attack was this in punishment for? The one in Salisbury, England? Oh wait, that was fake as well.

  15. China/NK just more ‘look, a squirrel’…it’s really about breaking UN control. Breaking the old to make the new built on the old structures. Just as the UN built on the bones of the League of Nations.

“I think the main message is ‘make the United Nations great’ — not again. ‘Make the United Nations great,”‘ Trump said as he left the UN building. “Such tremendous potential, and I think we’ll be able to do this.”

  16. What, no Saudi jets in on the fun? After all they started the insurgency in the first place.
I have no interest in the ME and would not support any military action there other than the defense of Israel. I put nothing past the Arabs to achieve some plots success. Gassing a hundred or so a small price in their eyes.

  17. …and regardless of who did what to whom, when, where, and how, I expect that the Nork fatboy with the bad haircut has noticed what happens to those who develop any form of WMD, whether nuclear or chemical / biological.

Fearless Forecast > Since Trump is scheduled to meet with Fatso McNorkynork in May I’ll bet that the second chapter of the OIG report (the McCabe news that dropped on Friday April 13th was chapter 1) will hit while Trump is ‘away somewhere’ meeting the Norks. While the Obamagate ‘fit starts hitting the shan’ again Trump will be fixing ANOTHER Oblunder foreign policy mess. Thank you President Trump! …MAGA!

  18. The British did it, the British did it!

“Russian defence ministry spokesperson Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov said that images of victims of the purported attack were fakes staged with “Britain’s direct involvement,” without providing evidence.”

The accusations followed an earlier statement by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who said that “intelligence agencies of a state that is now striving to spearhead a Russo-phobic campaign were involved in that fabrication.”

He didn’t elaborate or name the state.”

When asked Friday about Russia’s accusations of U.K. involvement, White House spokesperson Sarah Sanders told reporters “our intelligence tells us otherwise. I can’t go beyond that.”

“We have a very high confidence that Syria was responsible, and once again, Russia’s failure to stop them and their continued disaction on this front has been part of the problem.”

Last month Britain blamed Russia for a nerve agent attack on an ex-spy and his daughter, accusations Russia has denied.”

Meanwhile, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley said that Washington believes Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s forces have used chemical weapons at least 50 times during the seven-year-long conflict in his country.”

Britain’s UN Ambassador Karen Pierce rejected the charge that it was involved in staging a fake chemical weapons attack in Douma. “This is grotesque, it is a blatant lie, it is the worst piece of fake news we’ve yet seen from the Russian propaganda machine.”

No proof provided by anybody (even strong evidence beyond “confidence”), just giving the flavour of the issue.

IOW, SNAFU. I have confidence in what the US, Brits and French are saying, but we need to be sure, so I hope they were.

  19. As a matter of principle I am never opposed to bombing Syria.
As a matter of principle I am never opposed to poking Pootin in the eye.
But going to war to help Syrians? Committing to make lives of one group of middle eastern mooselimbs (who hate you) better at the expense of another group of middle eastern mooselimbs (who hate you about as much as the first group of middle eastern mooselimbs hates you) strikes me as not the best thought out policy.

  20. I work with a Syrian, he tells me there is no place for Christians in Syria now.
But the displaced are not a priority, instead we bring in Justin’s people, muslims as a priority.
    Weird.
As for this “Gas Attack” it fails to pass the smell test,me thinks President trump has been manouvered into acting against his own interests.
Given the current state of The CIA and FBI, who is gathering intelligence in Syria?

  21. I like the idea a huge chunk of assad’s chem weapons labs were turned into gravel.
all other factors are secondary. all those who voice the opinion that chem weapons are the poor man’s nuke, thin edge of the wedge etc are correct. we HAVE TO stamp them out when the opp presents itself, as here courtesy president Twitter.
    ALL else is secondary.
alternatively, anyone want a real up close ‘simulation’ of a WW I trench during a gas attack? hmmm?
    ‘these are the stakes’.
in another life I’m one of the stealth pilots lining up the target.
I’m also a hard-core 60s pacifist. emphasis on the ‘fist’ part for anyone unsure what my capabilities and opinions are.

I agree with Dave6 in that it could possibly also be a msg to k j unhinged: yo, kimmy kim, I’M NOT BLUFFING.
