    1. While I was an undergrad, I went to my share of keggers. Inevitably, Proud Mary would be one of the songs the playlist of whoever threw the party. Just about every wall-of-sound band I heard at social functions such as wedding dances played it as well.

Yeah, it got a bit tiresome after a while.

      1. “Suzie Q” is my favourite from this album …it goes on forever. Back in the day “Proud Mary” was overplayed, I’ll have to agree.
I listened to most of this earlier today with headphones on while making a big salad. It goes with the chopping rhythm.

        1. Suzie Q will always remind me of that scene from Apocalypse Now, a movie I didn’t particularly like.

          1. I tried hard to like AN, but after watching it several times (including the bloated director’s cut), I gave up. I had the same opinion about The Deer Hunter.

          2. I preferred “The Deer Hunter” — great acting. Sad story.Favourite war film is “Saving Private Ryan” but the old stuff on TCM is usually good.

          3. One of the problems with TDH is that Michael Cimino is a lousy director. Most of the first hour could be cut because it doesn’t add anything to the story.

Also, the steel mill town’s in Pennsylvania and yet the mountains where they go hunting are likely the Rockies. That’s halfway across the U. S. A., hardly a weekend trip. Yeah, a rather big plot hole.

If you’re not convinced about Cimino’s directing abilities, try watching Heaven’s Gate (another overly-long clunker which didn’t make a whole lot of sense) or the atrocious Year of the Dragon. Fortunately, I don’t think he directed anything after that mess.

          4. The wedding scene established the fact that these people including Meryl Streep’s father were close to each other yet they were all functioning alcoholics who lived desperate lives and worked at menial labor for pay. This was not a high class wedding. They made the best of it. It was important to the picture. Yes, the wedding scenes could’ve been shorter in length.

The Russian roulette scene at the end proved the desperation of the impoverished kid.. By then he was a a drug addict. Life was dispensible. The Vietnam war proved it.

The director could have done better though.

          5. NR:

Maybe I’m being too much of a film critic, but here’s something to consider. Aviation pioneer and author Antoine de Sainte-Exupery said that one knows one has a good design not when there’s nothing left to add but when there’s nothing left to remove.

Cimino should have understood that as he had been a screenwriter (e. g., Silent Running, Thunderbolt and Lightfoot). Unfortunately, the first hour of TDH demonstrates that he didn’t through irritating things such as needlessly long camera shots which don’t add anything to the story and waste screen time.

Unfortunately, he continued his style of film-making into Heaven’s Gate. The result was a bloated movie which nearly bankrupted United Artists.

          6. Colonista:

I agree that the only part of AN that made any sense was that scene, though the premise as to why the attack took place was rather absurd. (Watch for “Gunny Hartman” R. Lee Ermey as a helicopter pilot.)

          7. Ride of the Valkyries will forever be associated with Apocalypse Now. I’d rather it be associated with Elmer Fudd hunting Bugs Bunny, with the chorus of “kill the rabbit … kill the rabbit.”

          8. B:

AN reminds me of a few year old DiCaprio film where he is freezing and screaming in Alaska for three hours straight. Forgot the title, after first half hour I started fast forwarding, I think there was bear there for one scene …. AN is similar, it is mostly few depressed men on a boat being filmed by a stoned camera crew, you can forward through half a movie and not miss much… I think there is a tiger there for one scene.

          9. OB:

Actually, the use of Walkuerenritt is appropriate. At the start of Act 3 of Die Walkuere, they are gathering up bodies of slain heroes after a battle while singing that piece.

  1. Anybody else noting the number of media stories coming up which seem to divert attention away from the Wuhan virus tragedy unfolding in Montreal?

    For example:
    – Blanshit talking about the end of oil.
    – Trudeau helping out with a gun ban.

    1. Yes, the Liberals are fooling no one.
(Even Lisa Laflamme has gone grey at the hairline, anyone notice? Is that solidarity with the PM?)

      1. “Even Lisa LaFlamme has gone grey at the hairline… Is that solidarity with the PM ?”
        Perhaps she”ll grow a beard too 🙂

    2. Re: Blanchet wants an end to oil.
What are the organized crime gangs of Montreal going to lube their Harleys with?? Candle wax from St. Joseph’s Oratory of Mount Royal??

    3. Joe, Justin Trudeau’s PMO has instructed his media flunkies to go after the Alberta and Ontario governments, and to leave Quebec and British Columbia alone. Therefore, little reporting on Quebec. Here in the boondocks of New Brunswick, we have been remarkably successful with the Chinese virus, yet nary a word from the corporate, paid-for media. NB has a pro-business, middle-of-the-road Progressive Conservative government, therefore the corrupt media stays silent.

    1. They are getting more and more desperate. Stories about kids now starting to pop up. First we hate old people and want them to die. Now it will be we hate kids and want them to die, even though they are not dying from this. Oh, won’t you think of the old teachers who could get this and die then?

Sweden has kept the under 16s in school, and the people under 19 still make up the least number of cases. In face, the numbers in Sweden are lower for the under 19s than they are in BC, Ontario, Alberta, or Quebec. I didn’t check the other provinces, their numbers are pretty low, and so I expect them to be similar. Lock down and no school in Canada and we still have higher rates of positive under 19s than Sweden who’s kids are still going to school.

      1. Dwayne as the urgency starts wearing off we get deflection. People are starting to notice that not all is as advertised. We have gone from stories of a massive number of deaths, when that wasn’t quite true, we went to personal interest fatalities, with the virus at the forefront, now we are moving onto other deflections. As sad as the fatalities in seniors and long term care homes are, that is problem that should be addressed separately. In our small city 140k, there have been no deaths in these homes and we have many of them. As of a week ago there was no one even hospitalized with the virus. I don’t bother looking for hospitalizations as my son would sure let me know if he got busy and he hasn’t, no lock down and no overtime.

      2. “They are getting more and more desperate.”

No they’re not. They have facts, you’re insane.

    1. Margaret Trudeau is the Canadian poster matron for bi-polar disease. Makes you wonder.

    1. His wig is placed incorrectly on the right side…it is lopsided and too tightly curled causing the crazy look.

How many wigs does he have?

No wonder Soapie and the kids took off to the Lake. The youngest child must’ve been spooked with all the wigs placed on cut off heads in the spare room.

      1. Worse is to think of the poor rodents that gave their lives so that he could wear their pelts on his head.

          1. I ought to send said skunk to HRH

Skunks (Stinktier, in German–literally “stink beast”), however, have some degree of nobility.

    1. China ordered the Turdhole Government to keep the borders open, to go against all reasonable and prudent actions that would save Canadian lives stop the spread of the virus and save an already weak economy… Trudeau and his Government would rather be complicit in the deaths of Canadians and see a flattening of the economy then say no to China. Is there any doubt that the Chinese Communist Party is running the affairs of this deranged unraveled hopelessly corrupt country.

      1. South Korea didn’t end travel with China and they are doing better than almost anyone. Closing the borders is unhelpful. It’s all about the community spread.

    2. “Only brain dead people would [vote] again for this PM.”

Sadly this describes a majority of Canadian electorate.

  2. A Montreal supplier of masks says millions of them they secured from the chicoms are faulty. The bong stepped up and said Canada will not pay for the faulty masks.

    1. Any bets the Montreal supplier has librano connections?
    2. Bet the farm that the chicoms get paid in full. Who’s going to do the audit?

      1. From stories elsewhere, I understand all purchases from China are definitely pay up front and then hope you get what you paid for.

  3. Elon Musk is always good for a laugh.

Frankly, this is the final straw. Tesla will now move its HQ and future programs to Texas/Nevada immediately. If we even retain Fremont manufacturing activity at all, it will be dependen on how Tesla is treated in the future. Tesla is the last carmaker left in CA.

  4. I am wondering if the Democratic Party establishment, in the backrooms in June, might depose Joe Biden, and install a Hillary Clinton (pres)Barack Obama (vice-pres) ticket. The party bosses have plenty of dough to pay off the establishment media, and the social media oligarchs will be shutting down pro-Trump advocates. All of this would rid the party of Biden — who is looking more dubious every day — and the resulting Clinton-Obama victory, and the Democrats sweeping both houses, would cancel the emerging scandal of Obama’s police persecution of Trump. Lots of payola changing hands this fall among the elites.

    1. Agree, David, although I am not as certain as you about who the Anointed Ones shall be.
One caveat – I don’t think the Dems will need to pay off the establishment media at all. They are already totally in the tank, and will go as rabidly anti-Trump as they did last election, and have been ever since.
Still wondering why Blackie is paying off our media – they already swoon at his every heartfelt word.
Just libs being libs, I guess. Passing out taxpayer dollars to insiders is what they do.

    2. Big payoff coming to Canada’s media. They’ve already got some dough but the real money is just around the corner.

    3. ” who is looking more dubious every day ”

The delusion is strong with this one. I’ve been hearing these fairy tales about Hillary taking the nomination be it by Bloomberg or not for months now. Let it go.

      1. It’s amusing to think of a Biden/Clinton ticket. Poor Joe would have to sleep with a secret service guard post in his room.

  5. It appears that the release of the movie “Planet of the Humans” has helped surface a rift in the environmental movement between the Liberal elites, who quietly profit from solar, wind and biomass scams against the taxpayer, and the hard core anti-capitalists. If you can tolerate a few pro-socialist sentences, this article by a well-established leftist provides a defense of the positions taken in Planet of the Humans.

  6. China which has millions of muslims in concentration camps, is accusing Breitbart of being anti muslim. But then you don’t hear complaints about China in muslim countries.

    1. She’s going on hunger strike til Trump is gone. Good, good – what’s the downside?

I hope she can do five years without eating – I understand it gets a lot easier after the first eight months.

  7. Well, looks like the beef shortage is here.

At Costco this am, and the usual span of cuts of beef were gone, replaced by pork of all cuts.

Beef was relegated to a much smaller side cooler, only with ground, round and stew. Prices up. All choice cut steaks missing.

Get your beef if it’s still available, cuz it’s in short supply. McDonalds is now sourcing from the US, and Wendy’s US outlets are out of beef in 1 in 5 franchises.

  8. How crazy can Unifor leftist media writers get?? Well Heather Mallick at the Toronto Star explains that we should not be celebrating the end of the Second World War, because it’s ending sowed the seeds for something even worse, climate change. And by the way, it was the Conservatives who were to blame for people getting killed in air raids.

  9. Trudeau’s new ‘Ban On Scary Sounding Things To Make Stupid People Feel More Virtuous And Caring’ decree has made us all much safer by banning……….coffee?

“Run! Get to da Choppa! It’s a Hazel Nut Flavoured Breakfast Brew!”

    https://bigleaguepolitics.com/how-dumb-canada-bans-black-rifle-coffee-company-in-gun-ban/
“A listing for the company is found in the country’s law, which singles out thousands of firearm models by name. Somewhere along the line, Black Rifle Coffee Company was identified as a gun manufacturer, even though the company has nothing to do with actually making guns.”

Now personally my favorite coffees are the South American Death Squad Peasant Slavery brews…

When contacted to comment on the ban Justin Trudeau called all white Canadians racists and declared that the ban on Black Rifle Coffee would be worth it if it made one Toronto liberal feel more virtuous.

    1. Good grief. That’s pathetic. Another PR stunt. That is about what he is good for. He really should have been a kids television performed. I think he would have been happier.

  10. Malcolm at True North writes how Blackie is assaulting journalism and freedom. And don’t miss True North’s review of the stupid things Liz May has said.
