The dangerous doctrine of equity

A friend in Vancouver, a reasonable slightly center-left guy I’ve known for four decades, pointed me to this article by Jordan Peterson, which was published in the Vancouver Sun. He added that he entirely agreed with it and asked, “Who could possibly disagree with what Peterson is saying?”

The mantra of Diversity, Inclusivity and Equity (DIE) perhaps constitutes the primary identifying factor of the tiny minority of radical collectivist ideologues that nonetheless have come to dominate the humanities and social sciences in Western universities (and, increasingly, the HR departments of corporations). Of these three, equity is the most egregious, self-righteous, historically-ignorant and dangerous. “Equity” is a term designed to signal “equality,” in some manner, and is a term designed to appeal to the natural human tendency toward fairness, but it does not mean the classic equality of the West, which is equality before the law and equality of opportunity.

Equality before the law means that each citizen will be treated fairly by the criminal justice and judicial systems regardless of their status — and that the state recognizes that each individual has an intrinsic value which serves as a limit to state power, and which the polity must respect. There is likely no more fundamental presumption grounding our culture.

  1. Equity Schmequity…. Remember Freedom 55? that was a warning… When the median of male Babyboomers – almost all white – reached 55. They were to be removed from the labour force. I was. And I do not have a single white male cohort or friend that is still in the labour pool.. an I didn’t 10 years year – we were tossed to the heap in a hurry.

  2. People who believe in this doctrine of systemic oppression are butt-ignorant stupid Marxist sock puppets, end of discussion, yet we now see both the US and Canadian political left basing their platforms on this belief. They deserve to lose the next election, and badly, but thanks to the tireless propaganda efforts of the MSM, this might be just a dream.

One thing for sure, on a parallel note: if Alberta becomes independent, it could become a utopia for rational human beings everywhere seeking asylum.

  3. The concept of Equity fails in the real world…In every Corporation there are THOSE who perform & those who are warm Bodies….What is not easily definable is how to determine winners from the losers….. The CEO of GE Neutron Jack fired 10% of his Management every year, which injected new ideas & solutions…. You will always have winners & losers unless you work for the Government, who does not have a metric to measure results .

The USA (I know) does not judge gender… Females have the same opportunity to rapidly rise to the Top of their ability, as do Males…Females network better than Males… What is NOT usual is equal pay for those providing inferior performance…Both Male & female.

Peterson is right on Target.. If Women want to compete in the Corporation real world they need to lose the gender cluster attitude… Its not that hard to “believe” in yourself & expecting results..

  4. Jordan’s summary conclusion …

But I’m willing to stake my claim on the equity doctrine. In a word, it’s inexcusable, both morally and practically.

Ohhh! … but Mr. Peterson … you adhere to the WRONG “morality”. You must adopt “Moral Relativism” which states ALL beliefs are “equal” (and women are ABSOLUTELY “equal” to men). Christianity, which preaches LOVE and respect as its central tenets is … “equal” … to pagan headhunters in the jungle. Or “equal” to every murderous sect of Islam. Jordan is guided by the WRONG morality!

  5. Ah yes, that would be attempting to create the “New Soviet Man” for the second time. It failed the first time, as it will the second time. One can’t thwart nature.

Stalin also tried the equity business. Most of the men in the villages where my extended family lived and who “voluntarily participated” in the district kolchoz were arrested and sent to re-education labour camps for not volunteering happily enough. Therefor it was mostly women that did all the farm work.

The results here will be much the same.
