35 Replies to “Pollspotting”

  1. To cut Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2030 we would have to shut down 100% of our oil & gas sector and 50% of our transportation sector. No other sector comes close to the 350 Megatons of CO2 equivalent that we would need to cut. Not that the current Liberal government isn’t trying or anything.

    1. Author Curtis R. McManus says in his books that our society will descend into madness before the collapse. Idiocy like what this Lethbridge Herald poll suggests is madness.

    2. If Alberta separates Canada will meet Turdeau’s Paris commitments. Of course BC and Ontario will then have to come up with $20 billion a year for equalization.

Meanwhile, although I will be an Alberta citizen, I will keep my Canadian citizenship. Thus I get to vote in Canadian elections. Oh what fun, or mischief, that would be! 🙂

    3. All those suggesting such cuts have to die first. That way the rest of us get a reprieve from their insanity.

  2. The Lethbridge Herald is a joke of “news” paper. Only the obituary section is worth reading.

    1. I only read the obituary section to make sure I am not included.

Actually I grew up in this area and check the obits occasionally to see if there is anyone in there that I knew once. This used to be a fairly good ‘news’ paper at one time.

  3. Yes. Totally. After the west separates, I would be over joyed to see their greenhouse gas emmissions go straight to zero. It would be the happiest day of my life when I see pictures of Quebec or Toronto at night, and it is darker than North Korea ever was.

    1. Ha! Exactly … then jack up the price of ALL fossil fuels sold to the French-speaking Provinces. Let them PAY $ for their stupidity.

    2. Unfortunately those morons think CO2 is a green house gas. If the level of CO2 drops too low we all die, never mind having lights or heat, it won’t matter.

  4. I would say that we have already stepped over the madness threshold and onto societal collapse territory. Societies that deny the physical reality of sexual dimorphism (and even of sexual differentiation) are already . . . I believe the technical term is _nuts_.

  5. Mike. Good point. Some of their reporters (Dave Mabell specifically) are horrifically green slanted. To be fair, the “letters” editor has published every letter I’ve submitted. He’s a good guy and “gets it.” The comments section is tainted with the ideas of “fescue” and a few other idiots who can’t do math and have no abilities in logic.

The big issue with this concept of reducing emissions is that the whiners are not willing to change their lifestyles and living standards. None of them want to change! They want YOU and ME to change. It is always those other bastards who have to reduce. I wrote this in an email yesterday:
    Quote starts here…
The brainwashed kiddies, Z gens and millennials want someone to do something, but NOT them specifically.
    Will they:
    • move into tiny houses?
    • get their pussy cats euthanized?
    • give up their iPhones?
    • eat turnips and potatoes in winter instead of imported kale and organic blueberries?
    • give up their Subarus and Lexus’s (Lexi??)
    • give up their $4,000 titanium-frame mountain bikes?
    • give up their $350 Nike sneakers?
    • give up their $650 polyester and Goretex MEC hiking jackets?
    • give up their tablets, TVs and Netflix?
    • give up their high-school trips to Provence and Milan?
    • give up $7 Starbuck’s coffees .. I had to look these up: Tall, Non-Fat Latte With Caramel Drizzle; Grande, Iced, Sugar-Free, Vanilla Latte With Soy Milk; and Triple, Venti, Half Sweet, Non-Fat, Caramel Macchiato.

    Yup, NIMBY!

Last year, Shannon Phillips tweeted that we needed to take short shower, eat less meat and unplug their devices. So I wrote this letter to the editor that was published.

    1. That was a nice rant. Personally I have adapted the Richard Branson climate change model. Climate change can be profitable. I am turning my mansion into an enclave. May even install a solar powered pool heater to make a point.

    2. Very good letter, Clive! I like your style. And you had me at heavyweight, double-knit, hemp fiber pajamas!? The ideal accessory for lay-about Dope smokers.

    3. CAS, agree.

But, I think all Greens should use Japanese sleeping tubes. You could have ten or more people in a small house.

Body heat would provide warmth for the house.

No need for TV, stereo, or even iPods. With that many people you can sit cross legged on the floor and tell stories while you knit sock designs selected by the Dear Leader.

    4. The Sibling Climate Action Tax – SCAT – is brilliant.
Catherine No Time Mckenna the Environment Minister has three children and therefore should be paying two SCAT’s.
And PM Justa Turnip has three children.
And so does Bill Morneau the Finance Minister.
And so does Chrystia Freeland the Global Affairs Minister.
Lots of pieces of scat running around tax free.

    5. Great Letter…and bang on the buck…One wonders how those who live say in Greater VYR area would survive without daily truckloads of food from California…at least in wintertime..?

I mean by all means lets outlaw Fossil Fuels. uhuh…. I think they will get an inkling in their pocketbooks once some of the I do believe, planned outages on the existing KM line happen in the very near future. Compressor station Safety Inspections, line pigging and other such “important” and “pressing” Safety items. Should drive their per litre price well above $3.00

Pah, the Lower MAOLand can rot for all I care – Let the big one take them and Gilligans Island as well.

  6. “A little love” aint the only thing the Lethbridge Herald needs

  7. First of all, most green house gasses are water vapor, second, CO2 is not a pollution and many scientist feel the earth is actually in a state of CO2 drought which is effecting plant growth.
Side note: a read today that the Butts (the English Major) has been hired by a New York global consulting firm to be an advisor on risks related to climate change. The slim just keeps moving along.

    1. Wakeup: “First of all, most green house gasses are water vapor, second, CO2 is not a pollution and many scientist feel the earth is actually in a state of CO2 drought which is effecting plant growth.” Yes, of course you are correct, but that is not the point because people have no clues because they have been lied to and mislead by parents, teachers, profs, politicians and the media for one full generation .. actually 1½ generations. No amount of us telling them the truth about the facts and science of CO2 will do any good right now.

IMHO, they need to be told exactly what this imaginary “zero emissions” or “low emissions” society will be like. They need to be told what THEY will have to give up and THEY will have to live in a Venezuela-like society.

OMG, the Monty Python gang was so ahead of their time. Catherine Mckenna is like the Lady of the Lake who Dennis called a “watery tart.” That’s all she is: a watery-brained tart. Shannon was as well and she is still getting too much media attention.

The millennials who oppose fossil fuels will be mud farmers. HA HA!

The king receives a lesson in government from Dennis…☺☺

      1. Exactly. When I see McKenna subsistence farming with oxen, tanning her own leather from the cow she just slaughtered, only then will I think about going along with what she demands.

Until a single one of them starts behaving like they believe any of the words coming out their own mouths…

      2. ..“zero emissions” or “low emissions” society will be like…”

What will it be like..? (Gerald Butts postulatd this years ago as the CEO of the WWF)….minus the Islamic part, but I think that aspect has grown on him lately.

A planet with ~ 1Billion souls is what it will be like. All under the vicious yoke of a Ruling Islamic Cabal (your elites who will convert – for show only of course).

Islam being the absolute PERFECT control Mechanism…ya cant leave. Fkn EVER. the rest of us…dead and gone.

That my friends I fully believe to be the end game here
AGW – Islamic In migration – Social Justice led upheaval.
And presto the Global Kaliphate is born.

  8. 50% drop.
uhuh. on a chart, that kind of drop resembles a cliff edge.
sumbuddy tell me where the cliff is and I can arrange a ‘drop’ party for the TURD 2.0

I had some greenies telling me about wind generators higher up on the mountains to reduce migratory bird and bat mortality. I pointed out they STILL are not consistently reliable, plus installation and maintenance costs will likewise have a big increase as the altitude.

    fcukin’ idjits.

the more I read about this nonsense, the more I categorize it as just 1 more item on the checklist of loopy things over the horizon called end times.

  9. We keep missing the gift.
The true believers need to be encouraged.
Let them volunteer to live the dream.
Boundaries are vital here, for we must have a place to stand.
The USA mocks our virtue signalling “leaders” every day,as they persist in denying what Prime Minister Harper had to tell them weekly,we cannot cripple our economy, while we compete and integrate ourselves in to the USA economy.
The flea does not dictate to the Elephant.
However the “Carbon Pollution” meme is a gift.
Let the righteous self identify, then let them demonstrate their “commitment”.
Canada is huge,we can afford to create a disney park for the C.C.C.
Let them show us this ecofriendly, carbon free utopia.
Under threat of banishment for those who preach what they will not practise.

    I propose a new tax, a tax on Do-gooders.
All who demand other peoples money to “cure” some imaginary ill, should be ready to hand over their all and be taxed at at least 100% of their income.
Figure that might “cure” some of those who continually insist on imposing their “help” upon us.
Of course this would mean most politicians would be paying us, but I see that as an improvement.

  10. Scheer (that is, if he wins) should just declare that Canada’s vast forests and agriculture make Canada a net carbon sink, which it is. Paris Accord is met, carbon tax is gone, and Bob’s your uncle. Job done.

      1. Yes, Scheer IS the answer to: the dorkiest looking leader ever of a major political Party in Canada, for $100, Alex.

And you can add, worst public speaker since Pat Paulsen ran for President.

  11. To cut those emissions by half we would need to cut Canada’s population by half.

Honestly? I can think of whole cities in central Canada who could be completely de-populated (say, using a hydrogen bomb) with nothing of value lost. Ottawa comes to mind.

The greens like to tell us that we will need several Earths’ worth of resources to maintain a western living standard for all human beings. So which nations need wiping off the face of the earth to save the planet?

China tops my list. Better them than us.

  12. Good paper by Friends of Science here:
    https://blog.friendsofscience.org/2019/05/05/futile-folly-canadas-climate-policy-goals-in-the-global-context/
    Download the entire paper.
Consider ponying up a few $$ and join FOS. They get NO funding from big oil and the green claims. All membership funded and volunteer run..with a few part time staff.

Summary … With verifiable facts and data, it demonstrates that:
Global greenhouse gas emissions are increasing, not declining.
The source of those increases is primarily the economic growth occurring in the developing countries.
The growth of emissions in the developing countries far exceeds the reduction in emissions in the OECD countries.
That growth is likely to continue.
Many, if not most, developing countries will not honour their commitments at COP21, the United Nations Conference of the Parties on Climate Change in 2015, to reduce emissions; these commitments were political, not legal.
The developing country commitments were partly contingent on massive funding by the OECD countries, which will not be provided.
Canadian emissions constitute a tiny percentage of global emissions; and
The emissions reductions that the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change claims are necessary to avoid calamity are so large as to be impossible to meet in political, economic and technological terms.

  13. the 128 who said ‘yes Canada should cut in half its emissions’ should have to live in non heated mud huts that have no electricity and no running water

because that is the ONLY way anyone can cut in half their emissions

electric cars emit as much or more than gasoline cars, not only has this been demonstrated by many scientists but on the French CBC last sunday they devoted an entire hour to explaining all that is wrong with electric cars

yes I know the french CBC being honest, that happens very rarely

it was so nice to hear them explain that electric cars cause more co2 in nations that produce electricity by burning coal
and that electric cars lose at least half their range in winter ( meaning you need to charge them twice as often, which means more co2 )

it was amazing that the french CBC ( Radio-Canada) was not into propaganda for one hour

they even said ( not in these exact words ) that electric cars will need to be improved a lot because as they are now, they are not so great!

I had to ask my girlfriend to pinch me to make sure i was not dreaming…but it was real!

They actually admited electric cars are BAD for the planet !!!

  14. I have friends who are members of the green cult and when they start to prattle on about saving the planet I suggest to them that if they feel it necessary to pay more for food and fuel then please go ahead ….don’t let me stop you . I do not feel the need to pay one dime more to keep the wheels turning or food on the table …….and if they don’t like it they can KMA………………….

  15. Who writes these ridiculous poll questions….must be university social sciences graduates.

The results could (will) be spun any way you want.

“Poll indicates eighty percent of respondents unhappy with low greenhouse gas targets”

  16. Kate

You might want to keep an eye on those newspaper polls for “outside voting”. That one also let me vote from Oz but not “early and often”

  17. The poll is gone, 7:34 pm Kate time.
    Great letter Clive.

  18. My favorite is to ask whether they want 80% reduction in CO2 by the end of the century or reduction of immigration/ ‘irregular’refugees. Receive blank looks.
Then I explain that an open door policy (nods of agreement) will lead to a Canadian population of 100-130 million by the turn of the century (headshakes of dissagreement) which combined with an 80% reduction of CO2 leaves us with about 5-10 % of our energy use including alternatives. In other words poverty.
Then followup by asking what their Canadian environmental policy is with a population of 100M. (repeat blank looks)
Its fun to tease the innumerate.
