    1. Of course. I posted this yesterday in the clown thread. The surplus is obtained by using EI funds, declared illegal by the SCOC in 2008 (when Cretin and Martin used a 54B surplus to balance the books). I knew about this. The bought and paid for liberal media chooses to ignore it, or did someone, without fanfair, pass a law saying, it’s ok to steal from the workers fund?

      1. Which is why Albertans need to take back this Program from the Feral Feds. The Abuse of Public Trust and Criminal Theft of workers and employers funds.

    1. You know global warming is a load of horse hockey when the action advocates insist on using lots of hydrocarbons for their own use.

    2. Justa Turnip is entitled. He doesn’t give a sh*t about you. You’re a filthy commoner. Vacation in your backyard while being thankful you have a backyard because pretty soon some low income housing is going there.

    1. It should not even be called military procurement. It is really just how much kick back and grease will I get for my corporate friends. It has nothing to do with the military. It is all about travel, conferences, luncheon’s, meetings bilingualism, gender, and finally how much will I get greased if you get the contract. Have you any idea how many trips I can get to the EU if I can convince the EU Corporations to bid as well. HOG TROUGH HEAVEN. Have you any idea how many Generals and Admirals are in Canada’s non existent Military. Keep in mind Canada has about 4 ship Navy with 4 used diesel subs, of which I think only one is seaworthy, about 30-40 fighters that can still fly for short periods of time. Ha ha ha. Canada has about 5000 COMBAT READY TROOPS. A total of about 50,000 total men women in uniform, divided between all 3 Services, Airforce, Navy and Army. Here is a list of current promotions and retirements. Now add on the thousands of Civilians and staff at National Defense. Getting the picture yet. https://www.canada.ca/en/department-national-defence/news/2019/02/promotions-and-senior-appointments-2019—general-and-flag-officers.html

      1. So just in Ottawa, to keep control of those 30 fighters, 4 subs, and 4 Frigates and 5000 Combat ready troops DND will have 20,500 Employees. About 130-140 Generals and Admirals etc. Now this does not include the Civilian Political Overseers and Milkers. This is not about the Fighting Men and Women. But this is why Chretien sent our Boys into Afghanistan in rusted cast off German Jeeps and told them when they got their legs blown off by IEDs to sit on their Flack Jackets. And when they got new uniforms, they had to remove them and hand them over to the replacements when their tours ended. https://nationalpost.com/news/politics/dnd-will-spend-1-1-billion-on-new-ottawa-headquarters-as-employees-move-into-800m-complex

      2. About four ships?

How about the following frigates HCMS:
        Halifax
        Vancouver
        Ville de Québec
        Toronto
        Regina
        Calgary
        Montreal
        Fredericton
        Charlottetown
        St. John’s
        Ottawa
        Winnipeg

        And coastal defence vessels HMCS;
        Kingston
        Glace Bay
        Nanaimo
        Edmonton
        Shawinigan
        Whitehorse
        Moncton
        Saskatoon
        Brandon
        Summerside
        Goose Bay
        Yellowknife

        A little more than four.

        1. Just to give you an idea of the trough feeders in our military and as former Chief of Staff Randy Hillier wrote in his book the political bent of our military that interfered with him throughout his term, especially in Afghanistan.

In 2003, there were 81 generals and flag officers in the Canadian Armed Forces, according to the Canadian Press. Nine years later, that number rose to 97 (a 20 per cent increase), said a spokesperson for the chief of defence staff, Gen. Jonathan Vance.

Last month, there were 136 generals and flag officers — a 40 per cent increase from six years previous. Canada’s military consists of 23,000 regular soldiers, about 17,000 reserve soldiers, including 5,000 rangers, for a total of 40,000 soldiers.

In the US military there are 653 Generals or flag officers, 231 for the army, 162 for the Navy, 198 for the Air Force, and 62 for the Marine Corps.. The projected active duty end strength in the armed forces for fiscal year 2017 was 1,281,900 service members, with an additional 801,200 people in the seven reserve components.

          1. And then there is Combat Readiness. What is that. Well of those 23,000 soldiers in the Canadian Military. At any given time you have at most 5,000 troops that are combat ready. That means trained to the point were you can deploy and support them everyday. In the last conflict in Afghanistan they had a rotation so intense that our troops were past exhaustion. Many of those 3 groups fielded to Afghanistan had to be made up of reserve’s because we could not maintain the pace. It is a National Disgrace what has happened and been inflicted on our Military personnel in uniform.

          1. Watcher, I have no problem with you saying we should have a bigger navy. Suggest you also comment on how big and who will pay for it, since you often complain about taxes (and I agree taxes are too high).

Take your revised number, “OK about four that can actually operate”. Where does this number come from? The two articles you quoted don’t mention the number of ships able to currently operate.

Regarding the over supply of senior officers, you may be right that we have too many. But do we want to have a career path so we can attract capable people?

I remember in the 70’s a similar debate was held about the number of warrant officers, sergeants, and corporals, compared to the number of privates. My uncle a WW2 vet said it didn’t take long to train privates, but he valued experienced NCOs.

        2. Joe, besides taxes being too high, when you pay 2 billion a month in debt payments and waste at least 4 billion a month on pure BS that frees up more than enough coin.
You mention a career path for capable people but they need capable equipment that is purchased before it is needed not two decades late. Those dog f**kers in Ottawa could all disappear tomorrow and who would notice? The only thing most of them are capable of is shitting the bed.
The ONE thing in the whole country that should never be politicized is military procurement and it is the MOST politicized thing.

  1. Hilariously funny column by Rex Murphy, whereby the curmudgeon does a hit job on Lori Loughlin and daughter. A delight to read on another soggy day in Fredericton, NB:

p.s., Our bungalow is up on a hill about a mile and a half from the St. John river, and safe. Our area will have sun with a few clouds, starting Sunday and all the way into Wednesday of next week. On Monday we go visit our modest waterfront fishing cabin on the Miramichi river. It is on the river, but about 12 feet up off the normal river edge. We put in a breakwater two years ago, but last year the water at its peak lapped up to the foot of the cabin, with about four feet left as breathing space before any damage would be done. This spring the Miramichi watershed has not flooded at all, with people salmon fishing early this spring.

    1. The Miramichi, many a tale about that river from my Uncle Dan. In Sept 1939 Canada declared War on Germany. Five of my Uncles were all signed up by the end of Sept 1939. My Uncle Dan was one of them. When he finally went east to embark his troop ship, some how he met a young Lady from the Miramichi R. Her family farmed along that river somewhere. Anyway, when he returned at the end of the War. He married her and lived happily ever after raising his family on the Miramichi.

    2. David, I’m curious. Do you happen to know a professor at The University of New Brunswick by the name of Ricardo Duchesne. I just purchased his book, “Canada in Decay”.

    1. The Liberals told us over and over about Harper and the Conservative secret agenda.
The fact of the matter is that the Liberals, besides being corrupt, are neo-Marxist totalitarians and its no secret.

  2. Today for your reading enjoyment, the Globe and Mail website has a major story that Nazis are running rampant in Canada. They are everywhere and are setting up armed camps to take over the country. Scheer is a Nazi, Max is a Nazi, the Conservative Party is full of Nazis, Prof. Jordan Peterson is a Nazi. Only Justin can save us.

  3. It is truly amazing!

The last time the Liberals were in power, the Media was finding a Separatist under every rock.

Luckily, just the presence of Junior Lightweight has cowed the once mighty Separatists into submission. (or Conservatism. potato, potato)

There is no doubt, the Nazi White Supremacists of Canada are next. Trembling, by the half dozens, they face the scourge of Junior and his State Sponsored Media Pogrom.

Hide your Rex Murphys, protect your Petersons.

Bury your Free Speech…….The Liberals and their Media are coming!!!

The Canadian Media is a National Disgrace and Canadians are a universal embarrassment for doing nothing………Nothing about it!

  4. It’s a good things budgets balance when governments “manage the economy.” Not so much now Gritdom?

“Bank of Canada holds key interest rate at 1.75%, downgrades economic forecast.”

In its latest quarterly projections, also released Wednesday, the bank predicted growth in real gross domestic product of 1.2 per cent for 2019, down from its January forecast of 1.7 per cent. The Bank of Canada projected growth of just 0.3 per cent in the first three months of 2019.”

That’s only a 30% drop from the already abysmal growth previously predicted. Now there’s sound economic judgment.

Imagine that, peeling the onion with more carbon taxes while running deficits, landlocking oil, forking over $10m to a terrorist, lecturing business they’re greedy and should pay more. Covering cronies’ butts with taxpayer dollars. That encourages optimism.

    No?

  5. hi there mr/ms/mx what:
    so what
    April 26, 2019 at 11:35 pm

I am a hard right guy and a hard driving cyclist/swimmer/runner. I cannot stand cyclists in traffic the snobby bastards. What kind of idiot subjects their lungs and bloodstream to billions of soot particles from car exhaust? Stupid people like cyclists. I do my biking in parks and offroad and stay out of traffic. If 5 tonnes of metal moving at 100kph doesn’t kill you quickly then the PM2.5 will certainly do you in eventually.

    _______________________________________________________________________________

ummm, got news for ya, the moment a driver leaves their steel and glass enclosure,
ta da !!!! they’re in the soot cloud !!!! (besides which WHERE is all that ventilation air coming from??)
also, I NEVER go on roads speed limit > 50 km.
also, how many oooh, grocery stores, bldg supply stores, banks, restaurants, pizza shops, shoe stores, clothing stores, book stores, are there on a fcukin bike trail? hmmmm?

    you’re the goddamn snob.

and I hope karma kills you.

  6. It’s raining out here in the buck brush!!! Been so damn dry I quit using my wood stove.

How about this for nice. My neighbour brought over a plate of fresh baked butter tarts. They’ve had a winter of serious health issues and I’ve fed cows a few times and did a few little things over there.

These things restore your faith in human nature – and I’m glad for the rain.

    1. The Glorious Leader, Canadian Royalty. We give you the Great Shizen. Pull up your pant legs and prance around and show them your socks. Would have loved to see Granny totter up there all smiles with her cane then hit him right in the nuts and drop him right there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRuerpdKE-A

  7. Hola Shit but NDP Politicians and in fact all Politicians are nuts and dumber than a sack of hammers. The Greasy Premier of B.C. now wants Alberta to build a refinery because he is getting heat for 1.70/L gasoline. But he is blaming the oil companies while 50Cents/L is tax.
Meanwhile the Dipshit fought all pipelines. And BC Refinery capacity is very small if they even have one operating. Tough Tittie said the shitty Kitty But the Milks all gone. Hope fully it goes to 5.00/L. https://calgaryherald.com/pmn/news-pmn/canada-news-pmn/an-alberta-refinery-could-help-with-squeezed-gas-supply-in-b-c-premier-horgan/wcm/fc9b7bb9-743c-4b52-a0fe-d6d1f471f650

  8. Well that didn’t take long. CNN’s Don Lemon is blaming Trump for the shooting in California.

  9. • @ 7:25pm, Green Bay Wisconsin Time:

President Trump is speaking to a mega crowd tonight. No other network is covering the rally except FOX NEWS.

The people are wearing MAGA hats and shouting USA- USA – USA!

Sarah Huckabee, the President’s Press Secretary, just spoke at the President’s rally rather than attend the Washington White House Correspondents Dinner which is running concurrently. Last year she was unfairly lambasted at the dinner. She seemed to be happier there, in Green Bay.

The people are wild and shouting 4 MORE years!
(Yesterday was the First Lady’s Birthday. He said she’s just a bit younger than him – the people love her!)

Trump is is relaxed and sarcastic…what style!

    Jobs, jobs, jobs!
    Man what a country!

  10. Biden spin: the Obama administration was scandal-free. Don’t THINK so:

    “Obama-era scandals:
    Operation Fast & Furious
    Benghazi
    IRS targeting conservative 501(c)3 nonprofits
    Ignoring Hezbollah drug-running
Trading five Taliban prisoners for Army deserter Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl
Secret VA waiting lists (that led to deaths of veterans)
Mass domestic spying by the NSA
    DOJ investigation of journalists
Mocking Mitt Romney for sounding the alarm on Russia
    Calling ISIS the ‘JV Team’
    Iran Deal ‘echo chamber’
    Possible FISA abuse at DOJ/FBI
And let’s not forget the granddaddy scandal of them all: Spygate — the Obama-led effort to depose POTUS Trump and undermine his presidency. It would stretch our imagination beyond all reasonable limits to presume that Biden didn’t have a clue any of that was taking place.

The difference between then and now, of course, is that none of Obama’s scandals were investigated by the Justice Department. POTUS Trump can’t say that; Robert Mueller comes immediately to mind, as does James Comey’s FBI.

Republicans in Congress did look into some of these scandals, but ultimately without much success (because Congress doesn’t have any authority to prosecute anyone).”

    1. Great list.
      Also:
      • BO messed with Health Care big time.
      • $ to friends: Solyndra etc.

    2. Don’t forget about those pallets of cash given to Iran. I think we will eventually find out about other nefarious activity kept well hidden.

  11. Climate Change Story in SE Calgary:

At this moment there is a blowing blizzard!
Expecting 15cm of the white stuff. It’s so pretty.

    Brrr!

  12. Canadians doing business with Cuban Communists. It isn’t working out well. My heart bleeds, not.

    https://www.timescolonist.com/sports/sherritt-shares-plunge-on-earnings-miss-from-low-cobalt-prices-cuba-issues-1.23803651

    https://babalublog.com/2019/04/27/canadian-mining-giant-sherritt-takes-steep-financial-dive-due-to-cuba-issues/#comments

“our business has been organized for this eventuality since the Helms-Burton Act came into effect in 1996. We have no businesses in the U.S. We have no assets in the U.S. And that has been very conscious decision the way Sherritt was reorganized.”
He noted that another section of the act means the U.S. State Department continues to deny entry to the U.S. for most senior management at the company

  13. No links but the failing New York Times International Edition publishes a disgraceful anti semitic cartoon of PDT walking a Benyamin Netananhu daschund. Layers of anti-semitic editors!

Same day a 19 year old shoots up a San Diego Synagogue. One dead, three injured, shooter captured alive.

Catholic Archbishop cancels all Sri Lankan Sunday Mass. Islamist Terrorists are being killed in raids and some Jihadis blowing themselves and other up rather than being captured.
