  1. This is EXACTLY why you cannot just shut down oil production to save the world from climate change. All batteries have an issue with cold temperatures. We live in CANADUH – PLEASE DO THE MATH!!!! I wonder how warm it is inside a Tesla cruising down an Alberta highway in January – probably not too warm. But don’t tell the Tree-Huggers, they love that Climate-Change Koolaid.

    1. And so far in Alberta its been downright MILD. (Not at all normal)
Temps from the Mid 20’s to 55F at times…!! Constant chinooks. If this is AGW.? BRING it the hell on..!! And even in that … Given the Battery is the ONLY source of energy..? EV’s would have a Very difficult time keeping YOU warm.

I could not imagine what would happen on a Normal Jan Day of -25 or -30C . (-6 to -22F) , waking up to -26F temps and then Trying to get some heat in your prized TESLA if you’re even able to open the door that is…Fat chance of that IMO.!

Its gotten to the point even for myself, to install a Diesel Fired Coolant heater (Webasto), in my 12 yr old D’max….she don’t like the cold – and I can tell ya, it works like a charm..!! programmable – in 2 hrs coolant temp up to 80F…
Ya just cant beat Fossil Fuels for motive transport or heat. period….

  2. tesla, a word describing a worthless piece of useless equipment unfit for the “North” American and Canadian climate.

  3. A friend of mine in Texas had a Tesla. He loved it and tried to convince me to get one. I asked him what would happen if I had to take it somewhere in the winter and had to park it outside at -20C. Would I be able to drive to Edmonton, 3 hours away, in the winter time when it was -20C? How would heating the car affect car range? Then I told him it can get much colder in Alberta than -20C. He agreed it might not be a good idea.

Maybe they’ve solved the above problems?

  4. Over on the financial-markets front, Tesla is doing poorly. The company is up to its eyeballs in debt, and — according to one stock rating agency — gets a 2 out of 10 rating, meaning it has a poor rating with a negative outlook. It has a return on equity of a minus 38 1/2 percent. It pays no dividend, and has a playboy, eccentric as a CEO (two things that would tell me never to invest in a company). Only true believers hold this stock.

    1. Tesla stock is widely held by public pension funds who invest … “responsibly” … and “ethically” such as my wife’s CAL STRS Pension Fund. Which is what has propped up the stock value over the past three years of crap news from the auto Co. No wonder CAL STRS is going broke.

  5. Owning a Tesla in cold climates is like owning a convertible. It’s your “summer car” … it’s a novelty car. It can never be considered a “daily driver”. You got the money for such a luxury? Knock yourself out! But don’t tell me your Tesla is … “saving the planet”. It’s not. In fact, it’s “killing the planet” … because it is a non-essential novelty … vanity … automobile. Your “vanity” is not “saving the planet”. Don’t be stupid.

  6. Could have told them that.
Not being an “expert” though know my electricity, been an electrical designer.
Those that tell you that you can get far on batteries are lying.

….unless of course yer driving Mercedes AA Class 1, the ultimate battery-powered automobile.

There is one thing though, batterie,s are not included.
