    The BEST part of this piece was when Buckley claimed that America was a more generous welfare State than Canada … the US being #2 in the world.   8. Doug Ford for Prime Minister!! Ford has just announced he is invoking the not withstanding clause to overrule the judge who tried to kill his changes to Toronto city council. This is only the second time in Canadian history that this clause has been used. If Ford was prime minister the pipeline would already be under construction.

    1. Actually, this is the 16th time the notwithstanding clause has been used.

      But, this effectively mutes the lower court, notwithstanding the province will inevitably be required to bring this the SCoC.

      That’s where is was heading anyway, where Ford will win easily, given he is clearly acting within his provincial jurisdiction.

      Unlike the BC Premier, for instance, who is acting outside his purview and is headed for a SCoC slapdown.

      But now Ford can go head with his plan unimpeded by an activist (and wrong) lower courts notwithstanding. ; >)

      1. The Charter would not have passed without Section 93, The Notwithstanding Clause but for Liberals it’s a mortal sin to use it. We will see how they react to Ford’s decision to use it. Bravo to Ford, we need more politicians like him.

          This is a big issue, not some silly case of lemonade stands or single gender bathrooms.

          If this obviously provincial jurisdiction case is overturned, then our nation is in greater peril than even I think it is.

          1. Agree with Shamrock. If the City gets its way through the SCoC then they have effectively amended the Constitution to establish municipalities as a third order of government instead of the originally intended “creatures of the Provinces”.

          3. I agree with Shamrock, Glasnost, and cgh. I was in municipal government in Saskatchewan for over 30 years and it was made clear that we were “creatures of the province”. The province would listen to SUMA (urban) and SARM (rural) associations for input, then come down with a decision which became law. This control even includes taking control of a municipality if there is financial irregularity, a certain level of mismanagement, or governance irregularity.

            And yes, this topic could warrant its own thread.

      3. Ford should have won easily at the lower court too. The judges decision that this “violates the freedom of expression rights of potential candidates” makes no sense whatsoever, but hard core leftist judges can say whatever they want and keep their jobs. The SCOC is no different.

  14. I am an American citizen who voted for President Trump because the alternative would have resulted in the
    political and economic devastation of my country. Had Felonia von Pantsuit won, she would have completed
    the fundamental transformation of America that pResident Ojugears promised. Before I cast my vote, my
    primary motivations were the economy and the vacant Supreme Court seat. Had the communist lesbian
    won, Scalia’s seat would have been taken by a leftist judge which would have given her a solid majority on
    the court. Had she been able to replace Kennedy, she would have a 6 to 3 majority.

    Despite my initial reservations about Trump, I knew that he would be the better choice between him and Hillary
    Clinton. I am in every respect as big an economic purist as Trump’s conservative detractors. I understand that
    trade wars and tariffs are destructive. They led to the Great Depression in 1929. The American left still does
    not understand why Donald Trump won, or the role they played in creating him, and the American economic
    purists still do not understand him or his motivations.

    My Canadian brothers and sisters have to realize that the threat of tariffs is a bargaining chip in the game of
    international trade. Trump uses the threat of tariffs as a negotiating tactic. He has already gotten Europe,
    China and Mexico to level the playing field. If your retarded metrosexual Prime Minister does not understand
    this, any damage to the Canadian economy is on Justin, not Trump. All Justin the clown had to do was send
    a serious negotiator to the bargaining table.
