One Flu Out Of The Wuhan Nest

Oh.

For a long time, there was a large and seemingly ever-growing pile of circumstantial evidence pointing to the possibility that a lab leak or accident at the Wuhan Institute of Virology was the cause of the Covid-19 pandemic. But there wasn’t a smoking gun, something akin to a confession or a contemporaneous internal communication indicating there had indeed been some sort accident.

Today ProPublica and Vanity Fair report on Toy Reid, a China specialist for the RAND Corporation and a political officer in East Asia for the U.S. State Department, who reviewed hundreds of dispatches archived on the website of the Wuhan Institute of Virology. Reid worked as part of a team assembled by the minority oversight staff of the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions.

As Reid burrowed into the party branch dispatches, he became riveted by the unfolding picture. They described intense pressure to produce scientific breakthroughs that would elevate China’s standing on the world stage, despite a dire lack of essential resources. Even at the BSL-4 lab, they repeatedly lamented the problem of “the three ‘nos’: no equipment and technology standards, no design and construction teams, and no experience operating or maintaining [a lab of this caliber].”

And then, in the fall of 2019, the dispatches took a darker turn. They referenced inhumane working conditions and “hidden safety dangers.” On Nov. 12 of that year, a dispatch by party branch members at the BSL-4 laboratory appeared to reference a biosecurity breach.

once you have opened the stored test tubes, it is just as if having opened Pandora’s Box. These viruses come without a shadow and leave without a trace. Although [we have] various preventive and protective measures, it is nevertheless necessary for lab personnel to operate very cautiously to avoid operational errors that give rise to dangers. Every time this has happened, the members of the Zhengdian Lab [BSL4] Party Branch have always run to the frontline, and they have taken real action to mobilize and motivate other research personnel.

Reid studied the words intently. Was this a reference to past accidents? An admission of an ongoing crisis? A general recognition of hazardous practices? Or all of the above? Reading between the lines, Reid concluded, “They are almost saying they know Beijing is about to come down and scream at them.”

Oh, a warning that these viruses “come without a shadow and leave without a trace” in November 2019, you say? Hey, did anything unusual happen in Wuhan, China, in the following weeks?

For those wondering about the reliability and authenticity of the documents:

Vanity Fair and ProPublica downloaded more than 500 documents from the WIV website, including party branch dispatches from 2017 to the present. To assess Reid’s interpretation, we sent key documents to experts on CCP communications. They told us that the WIV dispatches did indeed signal that the institute faced an acute safety emergency in November 2019; that officials at the highest levels of the Chinese government weighed in; and that urgent action was taken in an effort to address ongoing safety issues. The documents do not make clear who was responsible for the crisis, which laboratory it affected specifically or what the exact nature of the biosafety emergency was.

Whatever was going on, it was serious enough to be communicated to Xi Jinping, around November 21…

And this is why you come to SDA each day: To get 2022’s news two years in advance.

  1. This is intentional!
A normal vaccination program starts to protect the young…
Right off the bat, it’s being administratored to the Senior population.
Needing incredibly cold temperatures as not to spoil…like that probably wasn’t totally followed too.
It’s experimental animal trial had killed every single one it was injected to.

  2. But we were assured by the finest public servants including “ scientists” that only conspiracy theorists believe it was started in a lab. The universe of leftists have been pounding that theme for 2+ years, backed by a media blackout conspiracy by YouTube, the old Twitter, etc. etc.

When will these killers be brought to justice for their crimes?

  3. Kate: looks like you just beat my Reader’s tip by 20 minutes. You have to get up awfully early in the morning… At least National Review is so wide spread it can’t be ignored by the MSM/social media. Oh wait, sure it can.

  4. “…to produce scientific breakthroughs that would elevate China’s standing on the world stage…”

Whelp, not sure the WuFlu elevated the ChiCom’s standing on the world stage, but it definitely placed them among the most notorious.

    Congrats!

  5. I still postulate that it wasn’t even a “lab accident” – but rather an intentional release at the 2019 World Military Games held in, of all places, Wuhan – in mid to late October 2019. Ours (and other countries) athletes returned by the plane full with a flu like Illness….

Intention release at those games would make this an actual act of war. It would be an escalation of the soft war vs. China being led by Trump at the time…

    1. Agreed. It may not have been approved by all or everyone, but it just takes one rat to spread a plague.
Some lab somewhere will eventually let Captain Trips out on purpose or by accident.
      Or by sabotage.
There is probably more than enough glue-handed eco-terrorists ready and willing to take on the assignment.

    1. “Forced” by who, exactly? My guess is that people will tell the “enforcers” to get stuffed in no uncertain terms.

  6. I’m still off the mind that western state actors, fearful of the implosion of the baby boomer pension and benefit and free healthcare collapse, begged and paid Chinese scientists to make something, anything that kills those fatties quick to relieve financial pressure. Think Canada, UK, Australia, NZ, most Democrat States. Mission accomplished. Then a fake vaccine to assuage the survivors feelz to make them think the gubmint is still here to help. Not unconvinced that the Turd wasn’t one of the folks pulling the trigger.

    1. Not Blackie himself per se but his handlers.
There is still lingering questions about how the Sherman’s murders tie in with improper political donations made by Barry to the Turds election campaign that got him the initial Prime Minister gig.
If Sherman had been convicted , the Turd could have been turfed from office and a new election called.
Certain players didn’t want that outcome, so some bodies had to be snuffed.

  7. So the spatial and temporal and other evidence still strongly supports zoonosis at the wet market. The lab leak just doesn’t fit with the evidence: https://www.medpagetoday.com/special-reports/features/99917

Also the recent preprint claiming to show COVID is engineered is bad and the authors don’t know how RE cloning with IIS REs work and their own paper shows that naturally occurring strains have similar genetic artifacts: https://twitter.com/K_G_Andersen/status/1583252858740219906

    1. Unme

      NOT “ENGINEERED” eh…

Explain to me shitferbrains, how it is that there are literally thousands of US Patents on bio-engineered Corona Viruses…

…Given, that one cannot patent a naturally occurring organism…?

        1. Nothing concerning the not ‘ vaccines ‘ is BESIDE THE POINT.
Especially patents issued a dozen years earlier on this exact thing.

Are you just natually obtuse or is it intentional ?

    2. I’m curious to know what dog you have in this fight, unbrain. You always seem very concerned that WuFlu not be thought of as engineered, and you always go with the wet-market thing. Doesn’t matter what the discussion is, you’re right there with the boilerplate.

I’m concerned with the number of people coming out and saying the thing is engineered despite the -huge- tsunami of officials screaming at them to shut up. There’s a lot of them, many are biomedical engineers who hack bugs all the time. They’re risking their careers to speak up. One does not do that type of thing on a whim.

To me that carries a lot more weight than your unsupported claim that a scientist releasing a paper on the subject “doesn’t know how it works.” Maybe quote the specific claim you disagree with and show how it’s wrong, unbrain. If you can anyway.

      1. My ‘dog’ is that you are all wrong and the evidence is arrayed against you. Read the Twitter link and the other Twitter threads it links to. It makes clear that the most recent hubbub of the virus being ‘engineered’ is by people who don’t know the basics of DNA recombination with IIS REs, amongst other issues.

    3. UnMe – the medpage study appears, like AGW science, to start with a hypothesis, i.e. “As 2019 turned into 2020, a coronavirus spilled over from wild animals into people” and looks for evidence to support the hypothesis. I confess to have not read it all but their conclusion doesn’t explain how the virus jumped from humans to people when there were no bats in the wet market. I think people will make life long careers out of defending both the engineered and evolved origins theories.

  8. Anderson and Fauci were email pals so that fact alone casts doubt on his neutrality. As a matter of fact in those very emails, which btw had to be pried loose by the FOIA, Anderson says to Fauci the virus “looks engineered” and that was in the early phase of the pandemic.
So I guess you could say he was for it before he was against it. Hmmmm…I wonder what changed his mind?
If you’re going to lie… do a better job of vetting your homers.

A wet market 9 km from the lab is the source. Sure, I believe ya.

        1. Being threatened with death and your entire famial line being wiped from existence will do it also.
          Arkincide is a thing

      1. Horseshoe bats are unknown in Hunan Province, and have never been sold at the Huanan wet market.

How do you know the virus did not leak from the lab to the market?
