  1. Yeah, Edmonton’s doing the same shit with our newly-elected Mayor.

“Waste of taxpayer dollars? Don’t mind if I do!”

  2. Solar power = free money.. Like he cares that Winterpeg is a really bad choice for solar.. As a matter of fact most places that suffer under 6 months of winter are.. But what the hell.. Its free money and all sorts of temporary jobs..

A politicians wet dream.. Where the pop lasts about as long as he sits in office..

  3. Ontario’s liberals did so well with solar energy, it would be a shame not to do the same scam in Winnipeg, perhaps all of the Sunshine Province, no?

  4. Municipalities and Mayors are even using your tax dollars that are supposed to be for Municipal necessities for Welfare Grants to their favorite local leftist charities. And even for Foreign Aid Projects through the Federation of Municipalities. They really need to be severely restrained. They are all signed up to every UN project possible.

  5. Mayor want to be Loney is another green nut who loves tax payer dollars and won’t be able to spend them fast enough. ” Loney’s plan includes installing at least 500 Level 2 chargers strategically at City-owned sites by the end of his mandate. ” ” Ken Klassen, a Winnipeg-based international expert on energy efficiency and sustainable communities said, “When Loney was Director of Energy Policy for the Government of Manitoba, he led a team that took Manitoba from a laggard to leader in energy efficiency, renewable energy and green buildings. I can’t wait to see how his experience and vision will benefit the City.”. Prior to his work with social
enterprises, Shaun spent over a decade in senior levels of government. This is what we need another old government employee.

“Loney noted that EVs are only a part of the answer to shifting Winnipeg’s reliance away from fossil fuels for transportation, referencing an upcoming announcement to create MetroMobility – a big city transit system for Winnipeg. ” HMM Maybe a monorail?? Former NDP cabinet minister Wasylycia-Leis endorses Loney in Winnipeg’s mayoral race . That should tell everyone all they need to know.

  6. “Using innovative financing tools and leveraging federal green funds, …”
That’s code for “What’s in your wallet?”.

And beware of all those who describe themselves as a “social entrepreneur”. About as meaningless as a “multi skilled” journalist.

  7. Manitoba already has an abundance of green, carbon free, renewable, hydro electricity.

But then the welfare state “new” green agenda industry doesn’t get their never ending handouts for it.

  8. Solar panels require more energy and fossil fuel-burning equipment to mine, manufacture, and transport than they save. Toxic chemicals are used in the manufacturing process which do more harm than good.

    But they’re GREEN!

  9. They should cover all school playgrounds, sports fields, and city parks with solar panels.

They can give school kids brooms to clear the snow off the panels in winter.

    Sarc off

  10. Winnipeg is well positioned to be Canada’s first all renewable-energy city. It’s going to be awesome.

  11. When I lived in Winnipeg it was 49 degrees 54 minutes North latitude. I don’t think it has moved South in the intervening years. That would make it probably the dumbest location except for, maybe, Edmonton as a Canadian city to run on solar power.

  12. That ought to make Portage and Main much more than hospitable when it is -50C in Flin Flon and Pukatawagan. Folks will be walking around central Winnipeg in shorts and sandals.
    Can hardly wait!

  13. I moved from Massachusetts ( one party state, guess ) to New Hampshire. Mass spends 5 times as much per road mile as New Hampshire. Mass has poor roads, New Hampshire has great roads.

In Mass I could always tell when we were getting new water mains, or sewer lines. They’d pave the road perfect. 6 months later they dig it up. Put a crap patch for a few years then repave. This way they could bill out 2 1/2 more for paving.

  14. And Loney isn’t the only looney running for mayor in Winnipeg this year. He doesn’t stand a chance, but the real looney to worry about is Glen Murray, the once and future mayor who is the favourite according to the very knowledgeable pollsters. Between terms of throwing tantrums as Winnipeg’s first and only “openly gay” mayor, Murray was a senior participant in the destruction of the Ontario economy as Minister of Environment in the disastrous Wynne government, so we know he will try to out-looney Loney, probably seeing Loney’s “Community Action Solar Program” and raising him 1,000 or so urban bird-blenders. Hell, he will probably hire Loney as his Chief Energy Officer or something. After leaving Ontario staggering on the ropes, Glen went on to spend some time at the Pembina Institute and then ran for leadership of the Green (Silly) Party of Canada.

  15. All the smart people left Winnipeg behind a long time ago. All that remains are the dummies and those caring for elderly loved ones.
