Last spring, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned Canada and other Western Arctic stakeholders — the US, Norway, Denmark, Finland, and Iceland — that all the resources beneath the ice melting in the Arctic Sea belong to the Russian government. “It has been absolutely clear for everyone for a long time that this is our territory, this is our land,” Lavrov stated at a Moscow press conference. It would be stupid at this point to delude ourselves into believing he is blowing smoke regarding the Arctic as we assumed, for too long, was the case with Ukraine. We should assume he means what he says.

  3. I’ll make a prediction. This time next year there will be a Russian exploratory ship frozen solid in the Arctic Sea requiring rescuing. The “experts” say the Arctic Sea ice will be gone by 2035. And yet, this past year there has been an increase in ice (which they attributed to a cold August last year as a fluke).

    Drilling up there makes me nervous. At one time, that entire area was fertile and verdant. There are lots of interesting microbes and viruses sleeping within those long hidden areas.

If this story has any merit which is doubtful, I would rather see Putin’s corrupt regime develop the under-sea arctic resources than continue to lock it up under the sociopathic Spawn-Fuhrer and his fascist green theocracy coalition / Reich. It would be poetic justice that ever since the Mackenzie valley pipeline fiasco (Chief Justice Tom Berger), the Arctic seabed has been effectively off limits to Canadians as if we were saving it for a nation with an actual self-interest. It begs the question, if you were to take up arms against Russian development, what were you defending – Green theocracy and preservation? It’s pure dog in the manger garbage. If we aren’t prepared to develop it, who are we to stop them?

  17. I figured this would be one of his goals when he pulled all his ambassadors out of Canada a few weeks back. Not to mention there was a podcast I listened to some time even farther back from a think tank warning of what they figure is going to happen next: a rather blitzkrieg style kinetic world war from a union of countries simultaneously so that American forces can’t keep up. Canada was invaded by Russian forces from the north in that scenario as was places like Taiwan and even smaller islands of Japan by China. North Korea also begins attacking South and so on. A ballsy move to put the corrupt leaders and the citizens of the west into panic. All this at a time when national unity is massively fractured and people turn on each other.

    This is going to be a fun couple of coming years.
