Jonestown Precinct

“When the dawn patrol’s got to tell you twice, they’re gonna do it with a shotgun.”

That’s a lyric from Steely Dan, but it also reflects what seems to be a new trend in two of America’s bluest cities: The replacement of police with civilian militias. (The press prefers to call them “neighborhood patrols” since they’re in Democratic cities).

There are some people who might favor this as a step forward for civil rights and racial justice, but the facts to date don’t support such a reading. In two cities where the police have pulled back from urban areas, they’ve been replaced by armed gangs demanding protection money, increased violence and, yes, prejudice against people who “don’t belong.” Anyone with a brain and a bit of historical knowledge could have seen this coming, which is no doubt why it eluded so much of our political class.

  1. Eventually sane people will get off their asses and take action, eventually. There are a few areas where people are waking up to reality but not enough.

  2. so it all hinges on which group organizes first. The militant radicals (income tax illegal, tinfoil hats, gangsters etc) or the civic minded good guys. Get your bodies on the street and pretty soon, well you have a franchise.
As I recall a wee Swabian fellow took advantage of militias to rise to power in the 30’s. Then he promptly banned gun ownership.
    What could possibly go wrong.

  3. While the police have not proven themselves to be a positive influence these days, what with their moronic enforcement of non-laws surrounding the whuwho flu, they are still needed to be the force that stands between criminal violence and the public. The job is difficult but just followings orders makes them look bad when the orders are bad. They have to become what they wanted to be, a positive influence while enforcing sane rational laws that do not violate the freedom of the citizens of the country. Government edicts are not law.

  4. Enforcing Social engineering laws like Seat belts, Helmets, MADD, Sin Taxes, traffic tickets….DON’T need to involve deadly force…WAIT! of Course SJW’s need Police & deadly force…..how would they control anything when they want to control everything?

  5. When the politicians finally realize what a shithole they’ve created I hope its the last thing they realize.

  6. BTW: The Seattle Chief of Police is why empty slots shouldn’t be filled with empty minds…She needs help to tie shoe laces….Who would have guessed she didn’t understand ?

  7. Vigilantism by another name.
And the Police Chief’s resignation letter wasn’t exactly a “Hell is coming for breakfast” moment for her.
“…although the final cuts to Best’s salary were significantly more modest than those approved last week.”
    Oh, well there ya go.

  8. “armed gangs demanding protection money”

They’re not “armed gangs”, they’re entrepreneurs taking advantage of the newly created “security market”! /s

  9. While I am always appreciative of my favorite all time band getting some well deserved publicity … I feel the MacPaper writer missed the central lyric to this fabulous short-form tune by Fagen and Becker …

    Everywhere around me
    I see jealousy and mayhem
Because no men have all their peace of mind
    To carry them

Isn’t that central to what we’re seeing in the DEEP BLUE Cities? Jealously and mayhem? Looting and reparations? Anger and death? Welfare payments no longer sustain peace of mind.

Of course the tune was written to describe the nightly grind of a band trying to make it in NYC … living on the paltry wages of nightly performances … but the lyric message bespeaks a darker underbelly to the have and have nots.

I had always expected the vast underclass of America to eventually explode in frustration at their station in life. It was always going to be “unsustainable” for America to employ 1/3 of our nation supporting 2/3 of the idle poor. Why the R’s and D’s both turned a blind eye to immigration of dependent classes, and continued to fabricate government support of children born in vast litters to the “urban” poor … is beyond me. I’m not so smart that I could have been the ONLY one who foresaw this day coming?

PS to the leftist MacPaper writer … no white men in lawn chairs with guns murdered anyone in CHOP. No … the arrest warrant was just issued a few days ago for an 18yo BLACK man for the murder of a 19yo black man. So tell me again about white men with guns in lawn chairs? Yeah … it’s all about The Narrative.

  10. Wake me up when real estate prices collapse. Until then I can’t get too excited about democrats turning formerly awesome cities into shit holes.
