Like selling ice to Eskimos, but at a higher price and with limited store hours;
New Brunswick’s Crown-owned cannabis retailer is recording a big financial loss in its first year in operation. Unaudited year-end results released Tuesday show Cannabis NB lost $11.7 million. […]
General manager Lara Wood says the government knew there would be challenges but is confident objectives including reducing the illicit market and creating public awareness are being met.
As if.

404 error on link
Perhaps the Liberals are so embarrassed that they’ve ordered their media friends to shut things down.
A full audit is required. And full disclosure of any consulting fees paid out.
And absolutely NO DPAs.
There is no apple store.
There is no orange store.
No banana store.
Somehow there is a store that sells lots of different plants all together. Saves us all time and money.
So why is there a cannabis store in nb? In fact, there shouldn’t be liquor stores either.
404 error, but that’s OK because it was a Huffpo link and I wouldn’t want to have Huffpo think anybody ever linked to them

Only the government could lose money selling recreational drugs. Unbelievable (not).
Probably more government employees than customers. I suspect that people still like to buy from a guy in a trench coat under a street lamp at night. Apparently also cheaper.
Probably more government employees than customers?
Probably more pot was stolen, sold, and smoked by doped up employees,
than customers.
Hell, governments in Canada have lost money on gambling, golf courses and damn near everything else they are involved in, why would dope be any different?
I’m guessing they tried to write off all the startup costs in the first year. Twenty brand new trendy outlets? Big bucks!
But losing $12M? Seriously? You have to work hard to be that incompetent.
On a side note, the bloom seems to be off the gov’t sanctioned rose here in BC as well.
I never see more than one client at a time, if that, in the shop I drive by several times a week.
I started taking CBD capsules for joint pain, A container of 20 for $45; a container of 40 was $80.
The last time I went in, she was out of the #40 tins so i said I’d just take two x 20. She wanted $90! I asked why she wasn’t charging the #40 price. She claimed ” we can’t do that.” I told her she could KEEP the capsules, ’cause “I don’t do that.”
By any measure she lost a $1,500/yr customer. Brilliant.
I would be very curious to know just how well those CBD capsules work..?? Have disintegrated left knee…surgery still many months away…
They don’t work. I have a friend who took them months before hip surgery and he gained zero pain relief. Plus they were expensive.
Now I just finished talking with a guy who says CBD oil made an amazing difference for his wife who has rheumatoid arthritis. I guess for every failure story, there is a success story.
It wouldn’t have taken a genius to understand that when any Govt decides to get involved in Business, its a colossal Fkn Disaster – ALWAYS. Anyone that thought a Govt Run Pot Store with Civil Servants running it would be successful …??? needs An Evaluation to understand just how bad their psychosis is….I mean seriously.
1. Anyone buying Govt Dope gets their faces-ID scanned and in the books ya go.
2. And more importanly, who in their right mind figured folks would buy overpriced garbage weed when hi grade BC Bud is avail at half the price..??
STUPID is as STUPID does…always. Looks good on the IMBECILES Who voted for the LIBS.
I do not remember who said it, a conservative writer in the USA. Anyway, they said that if a government was in charge of the Sahara Desert, it would take a relatively short time before there was no sand left.
It would be funny if the Liberals got so desperate that they resorted to launching a war on black market cannabis. That would be one heck of a narrative double bind.
Don’t worry. Fortunes are still being made selling drugs by government officials—the ones accepting bribes to do nothing about Chinese exports of synthetic opiates to the United States and Canada.
On would almost come to think that organized crime was responsible for paying off the Libranos to legalize.
Huge expansion of market through legalization, and govt can’t and won’t be competitive.
Tim Horton’s missed a huge opportunity. CDD superstore.
Coffee, Donuts , Dope all in one location.
All 3 commodities are addictive.
Roll Up to Win!
Re the CBD issue. I didn’t notice any benefits either,
but I keep hearing anecdotal positive opinions (?).
Perhaps they’ve hyped the stuff as a cure-all panacea but it isn’t that broad a spectrum?
