  7. According to some media reports, the mass-shooter is white. Could be terrorism, but most likely it is a nutter. I would rule out drug-fueled street-gang violence. I agree with the anti-crime hard-liners here, but I am just saying.

      I know the area and once ate dinner outside on one of those patio- restaurants in Greektown on Danforth. My relative lived on Logan, it is a nice looking area with older well maintained homes. Many families have lived there for years. They must be in shock today. So sorry to hear about this.

The secrecy around the identity of this guy suggests terrorism to me. They probably want to scrub his Facebook before giving his name. Any online postings might counter the “mentally ill” story they are undoubtedly concocting. I wan’t going to jump in with speculation, but not revealing the identity many hours after the incident suggests a cover-up of some sort. Maybe the fellow is one of Justin’s ISIS returnees whose experience can help us deal with terrorism.

  42. I can think of a few valid reasons why a dead guy’s identity would not be released. The lack of positive identification is one. Another one would be if the release of the name would somehow jeopardize the investigation.

    But I can’t see either applying in this instance. They have obtained a search warrant for the suspect’s residence – so positive ID has obviously occurred. And since all the circumstances of the shootings, replete with video footage of the suspect and his car, have been out there for the better part of a day, it would be difficult to contend that the release of his name would jeopardize the investigation.

    However, there is a protocol in place that stipulates that whenever there is a police shooting of a suspect, SIU becomes the lead investigating unit. And it would be hard to imagine a more politically-charged, arse-covering agency than the SIU. Yup….away, WAY worse than any large police force.

    So sit and wait.

  47. Comments related to the video and witnesses suggest Hussain seemed very expert as a shooter. Also, it would be good to know where the gun came from. These points call into question the “mentally ill” explanation.

  50. Increasingly sounds like the guy was a Canadian-born kid with mental health issues, not some terrorist wannabe. Tragic for all parties concerned, including the shooter’s family.

    I think I speak for all honest firearms owners and retailers when I say this: if the authorities are actually serious about meaningful firearms control in this country, and not just about putting on a show to glean votes from urbanites, they need to find out who sold this guy a restricted firearm and ammunition, and put them in jail. And the same for anyone else up the food chain. Even if (heaven forbid), the firearm used came from the USA through the Akwasasne indian reservation (as they all do). I won’t hold my breath though.

    1. I am not sure why you would conclude that he was a Canadian “kid” with mental health issues. Signs point to his being a practiced shooter. We need to know more about him and things he has been involved in. I would take the family statement with a grain of salt. Of course they will have taken down any Facebook evidence that he might be involved with ISIS.

    3. There is no way the family’s statement wasn’t written by a lawyer. No way! Makes the entire explanation suspect, but I expect the politically correct atmosphere so prevalent in Toronto won’t take it any farther.
