  1. Scroll down to the half way point.
“The judges of the Supreme Court, looking at the same flyer and applying the same test, found the opposite.
The judges of the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal didn’t just fall off the turnip truck the day before writing their decision. They are lawyers and jurists of long experience. In fact, they are among the small, select pool of legal talent from which future Supreme Court judges are ordinarily drawn.
So how can anyone logically account for the diametrically opposed opinions of the two courts except to say that the illegality is very much in the eye of the beholder? In short, the test is hopelessly subjective.”

and that’s the problem with gov’t regulating what is acceptable or what is not acceptable.
It depends upon if your underwear is red, or if your underwear is blue…
Twitter, Facebook, or even the 4th of June in China.

  2. I would like the Liberals to explain where foreign “disinformation” has created a problem in Canada. Essentially, this is censorship and it will quickly destroy our democracy.

  3. Essentially, this is censorship and it will quickly destroy our democracy.
Exactly. How long before the RCMP visits each one of us and impounds our radios lest we hear foreign broadcasts? Will I, as a radio amateur, soon be regarded as a criminal because I make contacts with my fellow hams in other countries and will I be required to surrender my radios and antennas?
Then again, should we be surprised? Our prime minister is a Trudeau. PET forced Cancon rules on radio and television broadcasts with the claim that it was to preserve Canadian culture. What it was intended to do was to prevent us from hearing music and programming from the U. S., a country which PET despised and hated and, thereby, become contaminated with “forbidden” ideas.
It isn’t just censorship. It’s a very dangerous move towards an iron dictatorship which, of course, our PM’s favourite country actually is and works hard to maintain.
Maybe we should start replacing the maple leaf on our national flag by a red star or, better yet, a hammer and sickle because under the current federal government, that’s where we’re heading.

  4. Having a “Minister of Democratic Institutions” is a potentially larger threat to those institutions than what social media could do to them. A political fox is essentially in charge of the hen house where politicians seek and achieve power. If it isn’t an example of a conflict of interest, it certainly could pass for another Ministry of Silly Walks.

  5. it certainly could pass for another Ministry of Silly Walks
I thought we already had one. What was Maryam “Nosestretcher” Monsef’s original portfolio? Minister of Electoral Reform or some such nonsense?

  6. After the India fiasco, what would you expect Dear Leader to do? We have dissed him and Queen Sophia to an extreme degree, and should only expect a little pushback.

  7. – And I’m so sure that Facebook wouldn’t just tell Canada to blow it out our @$$ and leave the country for good – why, we’re likely $25.07 of their annual profit!
Betcha’ it would redound on our international trade negotiations too.

  8. Yes, the liberals don’t like those memes and jokes about Trudeau. Tantamount to hate speech.

  9. What the f*ck is it with politicians, Liberals in particular?!?!
Stop inventing new problems for Canadians and put some f*cking effort into solving our age old ones!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My apologies if I failed to communicate my feelings clearly.

  10. All of these comments are good and they highlight the main thrust of Liberal policy, as stated by Rahm Emmanuel: Never let a good crisis go to waste. First, the Liberals create a crisis (real or imagined like global warming) and then they instigate policy changes to solve the crisis (which may in fact solve absolutely nothing, but heap more controlling measures on the populace like a carbon tax). Absolutely no justification whatsoever for the measures, but the line “I am with the government and I am here to help”.
There is no such thing as a civil servant because they are neither civil nor servile.

  11. Not that I agree with censorship, but the only foreign interference in Canada was Leadnow and Tides Canada funded by George Soros and The Rockefeller Foundation respectively and their scare tactics, demonizing of our energy sector to help get the buffoon Trudeau elected.

  12. “which may in fact solve absolutely nothing”
    – They ALL solve one of their most persistent problems – identifying new streams of tax revenue…

  13. The tides foundation is a good example but they’re just a charity you see so no harm. It’s interesting that mayor moonbeam in Vancouver announced he would not run again right after the provincial government put a donation limit in place for municipal elections.

  14. Controlling organizations like Facwbook to protect Cdn democratic institutions. What a joke, the biggest threat to demoncratic ideas and institutions in this country is Trudea and his fellow band of communists. As for our ability to pick out fake news, if it sounds like something that you’d hear on the CBC or its puppets then the chances are at least 98% that it’s fake. At the base of this idea is the desire to control everything that would shine a harsh light of our ‘dear leader’.

  15. In this case, we don’t have to do anything. It is a basket of absolute and total pricks, who all want the same thing, and all want to be the guy in charge, fighting. Zuckerberg wants to be supreme tyrant. Trudeau wants to be. Bezos wants to be. Let them fight each other, all those who pretended to be allies.

  16. It’s why Hitler didn’t need any gun control laws; the Weimar Republic had passed all the ones he needed.
No matter how good you think the law is, eventually your enemy will hold the levers of power that you created for your friends.

  17. agreed. cancon LONG outlived its usefulness. we did get some good Canuck bands on the air finally, but the ‘ramp up’ consisted of a lot of seriously awful dreck. then the rules got streeeeetched, and ‘cancon’ meant anything that had the cleaning staff from canaduh.

  18. the ‘ramp up’ consisted of a lot of seriously awful dreck
The restrictions of Cancon were completely ineffective. Much of the rubbish that was given airplay consisted of cover versions of recordings that were available south of the border. I could hear the original performances during the evenings by listening to American stations. Despite the CRTC’s directives, radio waves aren’t restricted by legislation.
