No wonder they’re always squealing about “Russian bots”. They have first hand experience.
Big media outlets have embraced Twitter as a distribution platform but still struggle with how reporters and editors use the social media service, particularly when they appear to be breaching journalism ethics.
This sizable gray area came into clearer focus this week, after a New York Times exposé revealed that more than a dozen news media figures had paid to artificially pump up the number of followers they have on Twitter.
Journalists and commentators, who presumably joined the platform to enhance their stature, instead found themselves grasping to explain why they had paid for counterfeit supporters. When contacted by NBC News, the journalists identified by The Times as having bought Twitter followers had a range of responses: Many ducked requests for comment, others blamed associates, while just one sounded
I mean, some of these journos have more “followers” than CNN has viewers. That’s a clue.

I guess it is embarrassing when a large media organization’s public face is poorly followed on social media. Effort should be made by social media sites to eliminate fake users therefore removing fake followers.
that piece reads like comedy central. the only difference between bloggers and urnolists is ” credibility”, and urnolists have no credibility, bankrupt a$$hole:-)))
related; there is no way that Psy’s “gangnam style” video got 3.1
Billion views, I don’t believe it (at 1 view per device).
I routinely take YouGov polls (been doing it for years). Most of the polls are business related … but every once in a while I get a Political or Social poll to fill out. Recently, I filled out an opinion poll about “Social Media” … one of the questions caught my interest, which asked (paraphrased):
“How would you respond if one of your videos/posts on the internet “went viral”? …
With responses ranging from “Thrilled” to “Horrified”. I had to honestly answer: “Horrified”. Because I find the entire “social media” world to be an illusion (except SDA 🙂 And stories like these just certify that for me. I VALUE my privacy far more than I VALUE clicks. Granted, “clicks” are not how I make my living. In fact, I make my living the old fashioned way … by reputation. By word of mouth. And I do not, and cannot, FAKE those things on the internet. In fact, the ONLY thing that appears on the internet about my professional work is a FAKE post by a disgruntled former client. I do not even have a website or any presence on the internet whatsoever. I don’t want it. To be honest, “those” clients are like this one disgruntled one – Losers, who believe they can WRECK someone with a negative post. I’ve never bothered to “respond” to their negative post … to explain or argue … meh. Why bother? This jilted client can just enjoy their moment of mastebatory flaming. They are but a flea, that I crushed long ago. And no, I don’t need to hire some “reputation dry cleaner” to “correct” the record. Social Media’s EVIL far outweighs its GOOD in my personal opinion. And of course, there is plenty of good.
BTW … I have multiple film clips of my kids doing and saying things that could potentially “go viral” … but I would no sooner post those clips for the world to see, than I would send my daughter to Dr. Nassar … for “hamstring therapy” …
Remember this on SDA from all of 5 days ago? Suppose we could see the fake follower stats for Jessica Mulroney?
David Akin: Jessica Mulroney (Ben’s wife) has 94,000 Instagram followers (that’s YUUUUGE) and she put this up on her “Stories” feed the other day. #PCPO #onpoli

so they buy fake followers…what else could we expect from the people who bring us fake news ?
The entire Main Stream Media industry should be toppled ( for lack of a better word ) and rebuilt with new more honest people and more importantly NEW RULES that forbid fake news and propaganda.
It appears, at least to me the somewhat more skillful Associated Press writers have increasingly written in the “drive – by smear of Trump meme.
I am not sure if there are now more Associated Press articles coming to hand or they are writing defence/defense articles for the now proven Clinton Foundation/2016 Campaign collusion with the Russian Uranium purchase facilitated by the Clinton State Department.
I am no longer convinced that Obama actually committed corrupt practices. I now believe he just signed anything Valerie Jarrat and/or Michelle told Him to sign.
Anyway if you are now of the Opinion the Associated Press has moved towards smearing, subtly mind you, and possibly being paid to do so; because the Ny Times & Washington Post’s reputation for honesty is now under the Washington sewer slime. Please remember this is my gotcha thingee. I was there first before there was acknowledged.
I’m not worried about big media faking their twitter followers. I want to know which of them were on the DNC payroll using Fusion GPS as a PAINTINGpipeline.
Classic.
Their followers are as fake as their content.
Soon they will have to relocate to Ottawa to feast on the taxpayers largess.

fake news requires fakier newsies.

Watching the DeMarxists retreat to their Russia, Russia, Russia talking points, including apparently anyone who objects to deep state totalitarianism is a Russian operative, like Tucker Carlson for instance.
Actually they’re exactly the same thing. It’s also fun to watch CNN spout the EXACT talking points.
It appears DeMarxists aren’t given just debate questions by the media apparatchiks. No surprise from this corner.
