Pity the unfortunates who will have to get this house back in order after the Orange Wave recedes.
And the extravagant spending isn’t limited to the Province either.

The doctor walks into his patient’s room and says, ‘The bad news is that you’re terminal, but the good news is that its not cancer.’
Go figure…and we reward these people for running the show ?!!
10% sales tax. Period. No income tax. No fees. No deficits. No debt.
That should easily cover military, police and an actual justice system. Everything else…government needs to get out of. There are way too many parasites feeding off of hard working citizens in this country.
If successive iterations of government cannot run a city/province/country without running it into the hole while taking almost half the working man’s wages then it’s time for a dramatic change.
Soon time for a reset.
Will the Trudeau Liberals and the Notley’s NDP achieve what no other Canadian governments have done, the breakup of Canada? Have their actions todate opened the door to what may be termed “a revolutionary change” in this country? Will Canadians accept the servitude that awaits them under these political masters? Or will they look elsewhere for help?

Achievements like this don’t come easily.
Thousands of government workers have been hired, they’ll vote how they’re told, and push everyone else to vote their way too.
Higher unemployment has the provincial government placing a little bit in many pockets, and the leftists will threaten all those voters too.
That simple combination along with idiot devotees to big government in media could easily return leftists to power, it works in Ontario…
they may have a couple of moves before it’s checkmate. Game over! For certain, the economy will collapse. When everyone is unemployed and employers bankrupt, where will the money come from to feed the population?
Venezuela, Zimbabwe, here we come.
Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard. ~ H. L. Mencken
Far too great a percentage of the population wants their arses wiped….and most of them are too thick to realize that it’s being done with a five dollar bill left over from the hundred they gave.
Your suggestion would only make sense if Alberta was a country.
One thing Albertans have always understood is that once you implement a sales tax you are stuck with it. Politicians may raise or lower the percentage but it never goes back to zero. No sales tax and 10% personal income flat tax were the Alberta Advantage that drove the provincial economy to lead the continent for years. Even the NDP aren’t stupid enough to try to implement a sales tax. They know it would doom them to the backbenches.
I’m no fan of the NDP but it’s plainly obvious that this is largely a result of long term low oil prices.
Therefore, government spending MUST be cut back. It can be done. Clearly there’s too much government and no guarantee of a return of $100 a barrel oil, anytime soon.
Along being told HOW to wipe it correctly, by same nannystate gubbermint
Can’t disagree with too much of that.
Strangely enough, when Stockwell Day was Treasurer in Alberta, the price of oil in 1998 averaged about $12 / barrel wasn’t much better in the year before or after, yet the Alberta provincial gov’t debt was being paid down, not rising.
But don’t let me stop you from doing some research into that.
The current NDP gov’t of Alberta is addicted to spending.
Is anyone surprised this report on the spending habits of the City Council of Calgary wasn’t known prior to the recent election?
Not that the millennial base would have cared.
“Even the NDP aren’t stupid enough to try to implement a sales tax.”
Well they have implemented a sales tax. The carbon tax. It is on everything that is manufactured, built, transported, developed, sold. It is on every aspect of our lives that involves anything.
The question is, will Jason Kenney eliminate it and stand against shiny pony on the constitution that says the province has exclusive authority in developing natural resources and electricity generation.
We’ll see if he is the Canadian Taxpayers Federation Kenney or the Progressive Conservative Kenney.
Sorry but no…yes Oil Prices did have an effect – no question….BUT,
NDP = COMMUNIST period.
They are Anti Industry, Anti Capitalist, Anti Investment, Anti-Pipeline (regardless of what that puke of a premier says), Anti Oil Sands…and full on Climate Change Nazi’s.
If given the chance, they will destroy this Province with full on Wind/Solar so called Renewables that will not do a goddamned thing for the environment but jack up electricity costs 3-5 times what they are now. And in doing so, kill any chance anyone would ever want to invest here. (See Ontario for an Excellent Example).
THAT Means NO JOBS….capiche.?
These Scumbags would not shed a tear to see Justine enact his comment of shutting down the OilSands…don’t ever kid yourself, they are NOT in any way shape or form benefactors there to do the publics bidding.
These people: BC Govt, Alberta NDP, Ontario McGuilty/Wynne, Trudeau are ALL about destroying CAPITALISM…the only model that has ever worked on this planet – the only model that has CREATED Anything of worth and the reason you are able to use a computer to post here after driving home in your Vehicle.
A capitalists rant…. me? I’d put the bastards up against a wall….ALL of them
This is exactly why Manitoba is having a tough time. All those years with NDP have their consequences.
But hey! This one is doing it one go!
Joe Ceci says Alberta still has the lowest debt-to-GDP of all the provinces. A different spin would be that Alberta will have the highest debt-to-GDP ratio it’s ever had with the current NDP government by 2019. But I guess that is being negative.
voters are stupid!!!
Great rant! So true! Good suggestion also, tar and feathers at a minimum.
Our “Art Policy” was a dead give away, don’t you think?
How’s that working for the maritime Provinces who all have 10% PST + income tax? Quebec is just shy of 10%, Manitoba and Ontario are 8% PST. No amount of tax will EVER be enough for socialists or those with spending problems.
Art of such quality, only gov’t would buy it.
Nobody complains of the privately paid for art in front of the Bow Tower though do they….
I understood johnboy’s comment to mean, no other taxes except for the 10% consumption tax.
No income tax, as he mentions.
The eastern provinces you mention, all have spending addictions similar to the current gov’t of Alberta.
and taxes upon taxes upon taxes upon taxes…
Yeah and how are they doing with BOTH 10% PST AND INCOME TAX? For Governments with a spending problem no amount of tax is enough. 10% would not be enough to balance budget, let alone pay down debt.
Our biggest trading partner is going to pass a bill this week to substantially reduce corporate and personal income taxes. At the same time governments in Canada are increasing taxes with carbon taxes and cap and trade. Nothing good will come of this.
