  1. It isn’t about her views on religion.
And it isn’t about her opinion on AGW/climate change.
It’s that she has the arrogance to publicly air her views, the ignorance to think that it is proper for a GG to do so, and the conceit to sneer at those whose opinions differ.

  2. To get the true flavour of her remarks and her attitude you have to watch a video of the event. Seriously, she sounds a bit psychotic. And in spite of all the defence that she’s receiving on comment boards of the Globe, the Post etc. — “she’s an astronaut,” “she’s got an advanced degree in science,” “she’s so much smarter than we are” — watch the video, because she actually sounds pretty stupid. After 35 years teaching at university, I recognize the tone as that of an over-confident senior undergraduate.

  3. Payette overstepped her boundaries big time. It’s obvious she hasn’t been well prepared, doesn’t have an understanding of the position she has been appointed to. Or worse, could it be some sort of activism with a bit of arrogance tossed in? Whatever, she should be taken aside and given a fast study in the protocol.GG’s don’t give lectures.
Don’t expect Trudeau and his cabal to take any notice of the major gaffe, whether it was purposeful or just ill prepared for the job.

  4. I think she was put into the position to be Trudeau’s trained seal. Anytime common-sense people are critical of Trudeau, she will jump into the fray to support him… “see, even the GG agrees with the PM!”

  5. Her appointment is more likely a vehicle for a Trudeau to crap all over a Canadian tradition.
It may not be a pirouette behind the queen’s back but the intent is the same.
Many Canadians will question the need for a GG and that was the goal right.

  6. She has insulted all Canadians who believe in the role the Monarchy plays in our parliamentary democracy and the long traditions on which this was implemented. We are entitled to an apology … indeed DEMAND an apology. Failure to recognize her insult to Canadians and apologize will compromise every action and every decision this woman will make throughout her term.

  7. Poor Payette does not understand the role, does not understand the science, and does not understand reality. She clearly also does not understand she is not Obama, who can stall the rise of the seas just by winking at the waves.
She honestly believes that, by the grace imparted from turdeau, her words have meaning derived in truth and which people will gasp in awe when they hear. It is clear that she needs this role much more than the role clearly needs her.
She is beyond over-confident, beyond arrogant, and into the realm known as “Libspreading.” Similar to manspreading, but an actual condition whereby liberals are uncomfortable, anxious, irritable, unless they force their values & emotions to everyone around, whether wanted or not.
There is no cure for libspreading. One must simply get off the bus or train and watch it crash further down the road.

  8. I’ll bet dollar to a donut that arrogant cow is not a conservative, nor does it know what conservatism is. Another pathological narcissist!!

  9. I had not thought of that, and I don’t think Trudeau is clever enough to have thought of that. I think he (and his puppet masters) thought she would be good as she has all the right check marks — female, in a non-traditional field, a Canadian “heroine”, Liberal/leftist . . . problem is, none of those qualifications guarantee that she also has the wisdom and demeanor to be GG. It will be interesting to see how she moves on. Will she now avoid acerbic anti-traditional pronouncements — or will she continue making gaffs due to arrogance and her misunderstanding of the GG role? I suspect we will see her swallowing a bit of humble pie . . . though not in a particularly public way. She needs to make up for the loss of good will with many Canadians.

  10. You better watch out, this character is violent, if you remember she beat up her husband.
Some representative you got there Canada.
As for the airhead in Ottawa, that character spews demagoguery on daily basis. It is rather puzzling that the “journalists” will never call him on that.

  11. I would like to personally register a request for an apology but there now is no way to communicate with the GG except by using a form with
prescribed classes of communique. When Ms Jean was in the role and about to rule on Mr Harper’s minority vs the coalition-that-wanted-to-be I was able to write more-or-less directly to her through a dedicated email address. Same with Mr Harper … with replies almost every time.
Everything about this Liberal government is tainted with flippancy. ignorance and arrogance.

  12. Einstein summed up people like Julie, “More the knowledge lesser the ego, lesser the knowledge the more the ego.”

  13. What does our GG and the Texas church shooter have in common? They both hate Christians and they both were charged with assault.

  14. From the link: “Even Canada was not exempt from an early 20th-century flirtation with eugenics, a kind of selective breeding that aimed to eliminate classes of people deemed undesirable. Its proponents, some of whom are still lionized today, invoked science to mask racism and intolerance.”
Good to hear someone saying: Tommy Douglas, not dead enough.

  15. The only reason I brought that up is because in any given situation the progressive mindset always has one eye focused on the politics.
The queen happens to have a strong Christian faith and would never speak in such a dismissive manner. IMO the GG and her jackass comments are not just an insult to many Canadians, they are a direct dig at the queen and the monarchy, with the added bonus that many of the ‘enlightened set’ in Quebec would agree 100%.

  16. Payette should be fired at the first opportunity which may only come with a Conservative victory. She is not allowed to play partisan politics.

  17. Anyone as lacking in knowledge of philosophy and metaphysics as Ms. Payette might have attended university to get some degrees but cannot be called educated.
As WalterF pointed out, the beliefs of Marxism combined with Scientism is what led to 20th century “science” of Eugenics.

  18. Thanks, Kate. An excellent and thoughtful column by David Mulroney; it nicely complements Rex Murphy’s take last week on our new GG’s verbal bumbling.
(I’m not a Mop and Pail reader – I just don’t have the patience to wade through all its self-absorbed metropolitan pieties for the occasional gem by Margaret Wente – so I would have missed this item.)

  19. Angry atheists have traits which are identical to any other kind fundamentalism: self-righteous, arrogant, intolerant. To use the extreme example, look at the difference between communist atheists in the USSR and China compared to libertarian atheists. It’s the same problem as political ideology – the further you go towards authoritarianism, in any of it’s forms, the angrier you become. We have this discussion at home, “It’s okay to be an atheist but don’t be a jerk about it.” This message is especially important for young people…and those who remain immature well into adulthood.
Similarly, Scientism is a fundamentalist version of science but worse, imo, because the history of science should make scientists a bit humble. Science has had great success but also groupthink, a resistance to new ideas and some tragic failures. Eugenics led to a justification for the holocaust and forced sterilization, population bomb/Malthusian ideas led to China’s brutal one child policy, lobotomies and the first shock therapies for mental illness. I strongly suspect that the “science” behind gender that leads to prescribing male hormones and then surgery at the first sign of a little girl being a tomboy is another huge, tragic error (ditto for feminine boys). Thalidomide, high carb diets, dalkon shield….these are all recent science mistakes.

  20. When I hear someone like her speak … I hear a mass-murdering Church-shooter in waiting …
    http://dailym.ai/2AbggEJ
She is giving an abnormal-psychological WARNING for becoming a mass-murderer. A real scienci-sounding Eugenicist in waiting. Move over Adolph … you got nothing on this ‘rocket-scientist’.

  21. Julie Payette has committed the often repeated mistake of believing that if you are successful in one area of your life you know everything . To specifically address her ignorant comments a friend of mine ( a doctor ) told me he believed 90% of illness is caused by mental state . That is not to say that it is not real , but is caused by our mental stress and reactions to it . As well the placebo effect is well documented . As for global warming , I will be waiting a long time for them to explain how the last four ice ages and following warming periods were caused by man made warming . ( the Wisconan ended about 11,000 years ago ) . Of course a simple google of this may bring into question the often repeated ” 97% of scientists agree ” . I am sure if they can just tax us into poverty and total servitude the climate shall never change again . Proudly Deplorable ! P. S. – 50 % of scientists graduate in the bottom half of their class and there is good chance the others do as they are told .

  22. For purely political reasons, the Conservatives should encourage her to keep talking. The Liberal Party and progressives think they are just mocking and belittling Christians and they know Christians merely grumble and shrug it off. Many other religions aren’t as tolerant when they and their religion are being insulted, especially those adhering to honor codes and a misogynist culture. As many pointed out, isn’t she also mocking native religions, Hindus, Muslims, etc. which is a serious heresy for progressives.

  23. I wonder how Julie explains the obvious order in the Universe. Random luck?
A few years back they focused Hubble on a tiny section of black sky and found around 5000 previously unseen galaxies. There is a lot science doesn’t know and can’t explain. Carl Sagan admitted as much.
Science is the search for answers. Julie’s close-minded arrogance shuts doors of inquiry, revealing a staggering level of ignorance.
It also explains her consensus views on Climate change.
She is just another of Progville’s massive bigots.

  24. Climate science got to 97% by using a definition that encompasses everything from a zealot like Al Gore’s definition to lukewarmers like Lomborg and Ridely to moderate sceptics like Watts. The sneaky shit trick was then linking that broad definition to timelines, apocalyptic predictions and very specific political policies. Those timelines, apocalyptic predictions and policies are ones that only a minority of that 97% agree with.
The example I used the other day was the San Andreas fault. I suspect 97% plus scientists think it will eventually cause a massive earthquake and tsunami. If geologists were like climate scientists they would then use that consensus to say that we must evacuate all residents in that zone by 2020 funded by an earthquake tax…or you are a subduction zone denier because 97% of scientists agree.

  25. I find that it is unanimous amongst evolutionists they flatly and instantly REFUSE to describe and explain what attribute, what property is it embedded in a proton that it ‘knows’ exactly what to do with its siblings to become life.
all life is made of atoms which are made of protons. all 10E81 + of them. they are ALL the same, so one need only discuss a single one to describe them all.
so what is it evolutionist, where is this capability hiding in amongst the quarks or wherever? ‘they are responding to the environment’ is the closest I could get to an answer, which I replied, ‘the environment consisting of ONLY *other* protons o evolutionists, so answer the friggin question finally, what is this astounding capability that these subatomic particles know how to cook up life?
it is NOT a rhetorical argument either. I legitimately want to know what their position is. I guess the answer is it is forbidden territory. they only want to go back to the level of the famous ‘organic molecules’, the amino acids thing.

  26. “Julie Payette has committed the often repeated mistake of believing that if you are successful in one area of your life you know everything.”
In the military, our instructional techniques training included an appropriate term for this: false testimony. The example given was usually a big-name hockey player telling you what a great car the new X model was. The point being of course that he might be the greatest hockey player in Canada, but what did he know about cars?
Science offers scientists no particular advantage over anyone else in making moral and philosophical judgments. Far from it in fact, as scientists have cheerfully colluded in employing science for the advancement of just as many evil ideas as good ones.

  27. As I like to say … I will start ‘believing’ in Global Warming and ‘catastrophic sea level rise’ … when beachfront Malibu property starts selling for pennies on the dollar. When every well-heeled Hollywoody molesterer sells their Malibu mansions (where much diddling of underage boys takes place) … I might actually sit up and take notice of Darryl Hanna’s (Malibu waterfront resident) proclamations about Global Warming.
PS … we have ALREADY been “taxing” the subduction zones via Seismic Zone D in the Building codes. We have to build-in and pay-for a mind-boggling amount of seismic restraint into each and every building in CA. Similarly … we are ALREADY “taxing” the public for Global Warming in that each and every project in CA has to comply with ever-more-draconian ‘Title-24’ regulations. Not to mention the ADD-on energy regulations passed by local jurisdictions that require LEED certification or Greenpoint ratings for projects. These two regulations already ADD $$$ significant cost to each home and commercial building erected in CA. Not to mention shocking costs $$$ for new water meters (increases passed because of CA’s make-believe ‘never ending drought’).

  28. Agreed JJM. A friend of mine who taught a course on the Holocaust at university used to delight in pegging down the self-satisfied wannabe “intellectuals” in his classes by pointing out that three out of four Einsatzgruppe commanders had PhDs. Formal education is by no means a defence against moral corruption and if untempered by a healthy dose of practical reality may in fact be a vulnerability. As George Orwell pointed out, “Some ideas are so stupid that only intellectuals believe them.”

  29. “Science is the search for answers.”
Yes, and I think good scientists are usually more than aware of their own limitations:
“Science is the belief in the ignorance of the experts.”
    – Dr Richard Feynman, theoretical physicist (MSc MIT, PhD Princeton)
“I do not know what I may appear to the world; but to myself I seem to have been only like a boy playing on the seashore, and diverting myself in now and then finding a smoother pebble or a prettier shell than ordinary, whilst the great ocean of truth lay all undiscovered before me.”
    – Sir Isaac Newton

  30. I read recently of a scientific study that showed people in space lose brain matter at a high rate likely because of gravitational effects.
Looking back, a number of astronauts have had less than stellar life decisions and events.
So maybe Julie needs a brain scan to see what is left up there. I hear the wait is only 4.5 years to see a specialist here on Onterrible.

  31. I’m reminded of a CBC comedy sketch many years ago wherein one the classic lines was “I’m Adrienne Clarkson and you’re not.”

  32. Remember: when the Liberals appoint a GG they pick a politically-friendly hack who meets stupid diversity check-boxes and no skill for the (admittedly mostly ceremonial) position. Payette, Jean, Clarkson.
When Conservatives appoint the GG they choose learned individuals with no real political leanings who have the skills to fulfill the role’s requirements. Hnatyshyn, Johnston

  33. “A friend of mine who taught a course on the Holocaust at university used to delight in pegging down the self-satisfied wannabe ‘intellectuals’ in his classes by pointing out that three out of four Einsatzgruppe commanders had PhDs.”
Joseph Goebbels held a PhD in literature which he earned at the University of Heidelberg in 1921. The professor who supervised his doctorate was – yes, you guessed it – a Jew.

  34. Judging by her name and background, Payette must be at least nominally Roman-Catholic, as of course is Trudeau. Fine, what they believe personally is of no concern to others. Except why do they trash the beliefs of million of co-religionists, who try their best to live up to the Church’s teachings? Then when an election is near, or the Pope is is town to piously declare their faith? I don’t think it is possible to have it both ways, yet for so many political leaders that is what is served up for public consumption.

  35. Oh and BTW, does this vacuous twat not understand that she has been appointed to server as Canada’s representative for Her Majesty, Elizabeth, by the Grace of God, of Great Britain, Ireland and the British Dominions beyond the Seas, Queen, Defender of the Faith?
If I were Her Majesty, I’d be informing Canada’s Ambassador that her selection was entirely inappropriate and needed to be rescinded.

  36. If I were Her Majesty, I’d be informing Canada’s Ambassador that her selection was entirely inappropriate and needed to be rescinded.
That’ll never happen. She was appointed by the Shiny Potato. To paraphrase a passage from the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey:
A Trudeau is the greatest Prime Minister in the history of Canada. No Trudeau has ever made a mistake or distorted information. They are, by all practical definition of the words, foolproof and incapable of error.

  37. What you said.
Militant atheists believe that they are above others simply because they say that they believe in science and regard religion as superstition.
I don’t look to science to explain man’s purpose on Earth any more than I would expect an answer as to why atoms split in a religious text.
There is no more a rift between science and religion than there are between any other disciplines, save one manufactured for political purposes.
If Miss Payette was truly one of the “rational progressives”, she would know this.

  38. At least she has discredited the rumour that air force colleagues nicknamed her “space c*nt.”
Liberals know they are right because they are the clever ones. They can tell they are the clever ones because they are right about everything.”

  39. FFS!! Now I have a third speaker that annoys the hell out of me. First there was Trudeau with his mealy mouth vapid comments, then Trump(now calm down you Trumpets) with his annoying mannerisms and idiotic comments and now I have to suffer Payette.

  40. Anyone who uses the terms science and random in the same thought has no clue, let alone the legitimacy or intellect to criticize others’ “beliefs.”
Nothing is random in nature, just undetectable patterns, or they are too complex (or simple) &/or are chaotic beyond present understanding.
Like, for example the chaotic and unpredictable climate of our planet. It’s not easy to be precisely wrong, but she gave it a good try.
She is quite comfortable adopting a religious tone when defending evolution and human induced climate change, given neither are empirically based.
They may be true, but they are far from “proven.” Looks like we have a real dud here. Oh well, the last three GGs have been great imho.
The reservations I had about GGs Jean and Clarkson faded as they jettisoned their politics in favour of honouring, for example, our veterans.
Payette should look in their mirror and work on her sketchy personal life and foibles before using her ceremonial position to lecture the deplorables.
I know – sexism eh? No, presentism, cultural Marxism and scientism, as stated in the G&M article. IOW her tome about the scientific method is a joke.

  41. Between the two of us, Julie Payette and I know everything there is to know in the universe.
She knows everything except that she’s an arrogant clueless moron. And I know that she’s a …
